The Witch’s Daughter

The witch’s daughter episode 9 – finale

THE WITCH’S DAUGHTER

CHAPTER 9 (THE END)

Immediately after the burial, I felt different. I realized I could see other people around around us. I realized I was not the only one who was between the world of the living and that of the dead. There were people there who had not even died; people who had simply disappeared from our world and are now being held captive. Their family had given up on them and might never see them again. It was so scary.

Lily came to me and told me that it was time to go. She touched me and I found myself floating. We started flying, she and I; flying back to our world for her to fulfill her diabolical wish of possessing me forever. We flew for several hours and while it was getting dark, we were attacked by other dangerous forces, other demons of the air. Lily fought hærd but was almost overcome and defeated when her mum appeared and came to her rescue. She returned back to me tired and angry.

Meanwhile, it was almost ten o’clock now. My dad looked at his watch and then picked his gun, the one given to him by the pastor and went behind the house. The gun had been blessed and the bullets had been soaked in holy water. He took cover behind a little hedge of vegetables about forty meters from the grave and waited. At around eleven o’clock, the sky darkened and a heavy rain started falling. It was accompanied by thunder and lightning. My dad was completely drenched and would have given up if the situation was not one that involved a life. The night was so dark and scary.

The rain stopped some thirty minutes later, as abruptly as it had started. After that, came the mosquitoes. My dad had protected his body because he had been warned by the pastor. His face however, was not spared. He struggled with the stinging bites of the mosquitoes until they left. He heaved a sigh and became tense. He looked at his watch and it was two minutes to midnight. He checked his gun and got himself ready.

At exactly midnight, he saw a bright light on the grave. It was Lily and I. We had arrived. Lily held my spirit by the hand and asked me to stand by a nearby Mango tree. She moved back to the grave and made some incantations. She completely transformed into something I could not describe. After about two minutes, my body rose from the grave and stood, facing her. I was shocked beyond words. It was the highest form of dark magic I had ever had the misfortune to witness. She beckoned my spirit to come forward. I obeyed sheepishly. I stood there in fright looking at my own body I couldn’t believe my eyes.

“Is that me?” I asked.

“Yes, it is you. Calm down and do not be afraid.” She said.

“How is such a thing possible? How is it that my spirit is different from my body?” I asked, shivering.

“As an accountant, you are used to counting money. This is way beyond you but, let me enlighten you a little. A human is made up of three components. The spirit, the body and the soul. When a human dies, his soul lives on to face judgement. His spirit is the life force that makes humans alive. It comes from God. His body is just dust. What you are now is your soul. I am reuniting you to your soul. When I do, your life force will return and you will be completely under my control.” She narrated.

She asked me to close my eyes. I did as I was told. As soon as my eyes shut, I completely forgot everything my soul had endured within the last few weeks. Lily had erased my memory. She didn’t want me to hate her for all what she had put me through after I became fully alive again. A few seconds later, I felt a sharp pain in my body and then a sudden freezing cold. I could no longer keep my eyes closed. I opened them and realized I could no longer see my body. All I could see was the witch.

“Where is my body?” I asked her.

“You are your body, Sammy. You are back. Your soul and your body are back together. Now, let’s go.”

I was about to move ahead when I heard a loud bang like that of a gunshot. Lily s¢ræmed and fell on the ground. She remained motionless as if she was dead. Then as sudden as she had fallen, she got up and tried to grab me but the gunshot sounded again. This time, she fell backwards and melted into the night. Her s¢ræms of anguish, anger and disappointment could be heard as she ran away.

My dad ran forward and came to me. I was just standing there. I didn’t even know why I was there or what had happened. Remember my memory had been erased. However, in spite of the darkness, I could recognize my dad.

“Dad, what am I doing here? Why are we here? Why are you holding a gun?” I asked.

“No time for questions, son. Let’s go home. I will explain everything to you when we get home.”

I was told everything that had happened when I got home. My wife and mum hugged and hugged me and would not let go. There was weeping and tears of joy. My wife was so happy that I was back. It was like a miracle to her.

The next day, the pastor came to see us.

“Thank you very much, pastor.” My dad said. “Without you, my son would have been lost forever. I am so grateful, Man of God.”

“It’s alright, Mr. Peters. Your son is also mine and I am only doing the work of God. The only good thing is that I was available to help. What if I wasn’t available?”

“Thank you, pastor. My wife and I are forever in your debt. But come to think of it pastor…” My dad continued. “…Lily and my son took an oath. Can’t she come back to haunt him?”

“Do not be afraid. When your son died, the oath was broken. Yes, even in law, when a defendant dies, the case too dies. Your son is free now and she can no longer have access to him. She’s gone forever. The Lord has saved your son. Now rejoice and be glad for the Lord is good.”

A week later, I went back to my own home and resumed work. From that day onwards, my wife and we lived happily ever after.
