Chapter 5

(The lone musical note…..)

Chan got out cautiously from his bed, making his footsteps light as he approached the bedroom door.

He didn’t know why he was being so careful. Surely it couldn’t be a burglar, right?

Well. It was better not to take any chances. He finally arrived at the door, and gently placed his hands on the handle, but the stupid handle must have been several years old, as it made a loud creaking noise as he pressed it down. The noise seemed to have alerted whoever was outside the room, as he heard the hurried shuffling of feet away from the door.

Chan pulled the bedroom door open forcefully, but as he had expected, whoever was there was already gone. He felt goosepimples prick his flesh.

Now he was really feeling unnerved. That couldn’t possibly have been Aster or his mother.

Or was Aster trying to play a prank on him?

Or maybe Aster’s mother was some kind of creep that spied on younger men?

Whatever the reason was, he was feeling extremely creeped out. He had experienced cases of crazed and obsessed fans severally, and they were honestly not things he could say he would have enjoyed.

Well, he knew he was so amazing and perfect, that one or two people from his fans would definitely not be able to handle it and become obsessed, but geez, he had had much more than he had expected. He should be proud though.

Maybe Aster’s mother had accidentally fallen into that category. She had been extremely nice to him, and unusually accepting of his indefinite and unannounced cohabitation with them.

People weren’t just that nice were they?

He gently moved back to his bed, zipping open his suitcase and getting out his guitar. He strummed it effortlessly, feeling the low twangs of the strings calming him.

Though this guitar was nothing like the one he had abandoned, it would have to make do.

All the strumming and the calm notes soon made him drowsy, and he rolled over in his bed and began to sleep.

Chan spent the wh0le of the next day sorting and arranging his things into his new room, which would be his new home for however long it took for him to get his voice back. Aster’s mom had offered to help him get settled in, bit he had an order in which he arranged his things, and no way was he about to let her get her hands on it and turn it into some motherly mush.

As it turns out, he had packed a lot more than expected, and it took longer than he had imagined for him to make the bland guest room look like home.

He wondered if he should spend some money getting some tasteful furniture to add to the room, but then decided it wasn’t worth the stress. Plus, the wh0le idea was for him to take a break from what he was used to at home right? This would have to do.

He appraised his work satisfactorily. He was really too good at anything he did. Maybe idhe hadn’t been a singer, he should have become an interior designer.

As he switched off his boom box which had been softly playing one of his songs, he noted that he had been hearing unfamiliar voices in the house, the wh0le time he had been h0led up in his room.

Aster had come in once in awhile to bring him his meals, and he had thought of asking him, but he just guessed that they had guests, and dismissed the thought.

He stretched as he took off his shirt, ready to head in and have a shower.

Aster opened the door at that moment. He grit his teeth.

“Is this going to be a thing Aster?”

“What?”

“You entering my room without asking.”

The male looked embarrassed.

“Oops.” He goofily closed the door and knocked on it.

Chan scoffed, and Aster opened the door, walking in and looking pleased with his little joke.

“Were you about to shower? Mom says you should come out for dinner.”

“I’ll be out later. Just leave my food out for me.”

“Alright.”

He stepped into the bathroom, and took a long, relaxing bath.

He was grateful he had remembered to bring his bath oils and scented candles from home, and though the bathroom looked nothing like the jacuzzi in his mansion, he was still able to achieve the soothing bath feeling he wanted.

He soaked in the tub, feeling a gasp escape his l-ips.

As he rested his head on the ceramic edge of the tub, thoughts ran through his mind.

He had only been here for two days, so would it be too soon to try singing?

He knew the bathroom had better acoustics than any other room in the house, so it would be the perfect place to try. He bit his lip in anger.

When last had he wanted to sing in the bathroom, other than anywhere else? That time was so long ago, when he hadn’t yet trusted in his skills as good as he should have.

He sighed, and opened his mouth, but as partially expected, what filled his ears was that same unfamiliar, hoarse, voice he was slowly and unwillingly getting used to.

He ran his hands through his hair in frustration, then realized that it had already gotten dark outside. He got out of the tub, and looked himself over in the mirror.

He would have to start working out again, before he lost his pristine abs.

He entered back into the room, grabbed his head phones, out on some slacks, and headed out to get his dinner.

As expected, the living room was empty, but his dinner was probably in the fridge.

He flicked the lights on, got his dinner out, and began to heat it up in the microwave.

He had his headphones on the wh0le time. When his dinner was done, he found something in the fridge that looked like chocolate milk, and he grabbed it.

He sat down at the table to eat, noting that Aster’s mom was really a good cook.

He grabbed the chocolate milk to open and begin to drink, not looking at it, as he was so focused on his food, but he felt someone tugging at it.

He froze at first. Now realizing that the headphones in his head had prevented him from realizing that someone had slowly walked up and was now standing beside him.

And apparently not allowing him to pick up his Chocolate milk.

He felt his heart thumping in his chest.

What if this was the same person from last night?

He tried to tug at the chocolate milk, but the person held it firmly.

He gulped, the slowly turned his head around.

Chan almost lost his bladder, his kidneys, and his heart at once.

Standing before him was a very angry looking human being, with long dark hair falling all around her face, and her features twisted into a horrible scowl.

She didn’t look all that scary, but Chan was already terrified, so his reaction was very very loud.

“HOLY……!!!!”

His words were cut short as let go of the chocolate milk and fell off the chair, the headphones clattering off his head.

The girl stared down at him, then grabbed the chocolate milk.

“This…..it’s mine.”

Chan stared at her with wide eyes.

“W-what?”

He heard two doors opening and closing violently, and Aster and his mother appeared a few seconds later.

“Chan! Are you….!”

He saw the girl standing in front of a very terrified looking Chan, and his mouth opened in what looked like realization.

“Oh my God, Chan…I’m so sorry. I didn’t tell you.” He said softly, reaching out his hand to help him up.

Chan didn’t take it, but instead got up on his own stubbornly.

“Tell me that you have some kind of monster living in your house?”

Aster pressed his l-ips together nervously.

“You two haven’t met, and that is understandable.”

Chan saw Aster’s mom, grab the girl by the hand and brush all the matted locks off her face, the same way his own mother used to do.

Aster grabbed her and pulled her to his side, and she scowled that terrifying scowl again.

“Chan….this is my little sister….Liana.”

“Lee.” The girl muttered defiantly, shooting Aster a glare.

Aster scoffed.

“”Leeeeeana.”

Chan saw the girl kick Aster lightly. “Jerk.” She muttered.

Chan watched the wh0le scene unfold before him, wondering just how on Earth these people were acting so casually when he had almost had a heart attack.

Aster’s mom bowed to him, clasping her hands together.

“We’re so sorry Chan! We should have told you earlier. This isn’t the first time she has scared guests! I don’t know what to do with her anymore! Please forgive me!”

She grabbed the girl by the hair, and forced her into a bow.

“Apologize. Chan my dear. You must have been really scared right?”

Chan glanced at Aster, who was stifling a laugh, and he wondered if these people were really apologizing or mocking him.

He grit his teeth, not wanting to admit that he had been terrified by what was obviously a harmless girl.

He folded his arms, trying not to look so stricken.

“No, I was just surprised that’s all.”

“Ha!” The girl said, raising her head up.

“You looked like you were gonna w-t yourself.”

Chan felt veins popping in his head. Shouldn’t this girl be apologizing?!

“Well, maybe I wouldn’t have been that way if you hadn’t been creeping around my room yesterday!” He retorted in anger.

Aster’s mom looked at her in shock.

“Liana!”

“My name is Lee!”

She shot Chan a look that gave him the same feeling a threatening letter would, and he stepped back.

“I wasn’t creeping around his room, mom. I was doing something else!”

Aster quickly stepped in, holding his mother back as she had begun to hit Lee’s back.

He was flat out laughing now.

“Okay,okay. Let’s all calm down.”

He turned to Chan.

“Chan are you….?”

Chan Walked off, feeling annoyed and embarrassed, and ignoring Aster’s question.

Aster sighed as soon as Chan was out of earshot.

“Liana. That was not very nice.”

“But you’re laughing aren’t you?”

Aster smiled sadly.

“That doesn’t make it nice.”

His mom began to hit Lee’s head again, and the girl protested before running back into her room.

“My God! What am I going to do with that girl?!”

Aster smiled.

One thing was for sure, he had never seen Chan look so terrified before.

Maybe it was a good thing that his sister was such a scary girl.
