What happened to Tife : 10

Tony’s pov

I didn’t expect to have this nagging feeling, I didn’t expect to miss the echoing beautiful sound of her laughter, I wasn’t supposed to miss her angelic face, her stubborn personality and her noisy chattering, I wasn’t supposed to miss her soft full l-ips and the mewling sound she makes whenever I k-ss her.

No, I didn’t expect to miss Angel or rather Boluwatife as her friend called her.

I feel so angry with myself for being so gullible, for allowing her to fool me, all these while, I thought she had memory loss, even when things were difficult for me, I still bought supplementary drugs for her, I still bought everything that’ll make her regain her memory very quickly.

I went in,side to take my car keys but I ended up entering her room, I noticed a lot of changes she has made in the house, I noticed all her designer clothes that she hung in the wardrobe, clothes she never wore.

I didn’t expect her to mean so much to me during a short period of time, I need to give her the clothes, they’re just going to waste, as I packed the clothes in,side a suitcase, I realized that I was just looking for an opportunity to see her one more time.

I came out of the house and realized that the car keys that I went in,side to take, I didn’t even take them, I went back in,side and took the car keys, I entered into the car before I started thinking.

🤔do I even know where to find her?

No I have to go to that hall, I have to look for that her friend, I need to see her one last time or I’ll lose my mind.

Ngozi’s pov

I expected everything to get better the moment I said I want an abortion but it didn’t.

A part of me would always feel like this isn’t the best decision but deep down I know I will never be able to love this child.

And yet, this is technically my first child and I’m killing it.

My mom didn’t want to agree with me, she said the church frowns against abortion that how could she, a deaconess allow her child to go through abortion.

But Cisco was there for me, he has always been there for me, he helped me convince my parents, it’s just so pathetic that there’s no future for us, I can never be good enough for him.

And as we enter into the hospital, of course he is here with me, Francisco, Kate and my mom.

And the doctor began the torturous rite of questioning

” how old are you miss Adams”

” I’m seventeen ”

” and you’re here for an abortion if I’m right ”

I nodded glumly.

” there are other solutions apart from abortion, have you thought about adoption ”

I have thought about it but I realized that I don’t want it.

” I’ve made up my mind doctor ”

He shook his head sadly

” teenagers of nowadays!, abstain from unprotected s€× but you won’t listen ”

He kept on judging me, not knowing how hærd this is for me.

And after everything was all over, it was a different me that left the hospital that day.

As soon as I walked out of the office, I broke down in tears but Kate wrapped her arms around me, they all comforted me and they told me what they keep on saying, that everything will be okay.

Jerry’s pov

I guess it’s time someone has to end this thing, although I’m not a motivational speaker,
I just hope she listens to me.

I knocked on the door of Ngozi’s house.

Her mom opened the door and she was surprised to see me.

” wow, Jerry ”

” good afternoon ma, is Ngozi at home ”

” yes, she is in,side ”

I went in,side the house to meet a very dull Ngozi sitting on the chair, she focused her eyes on the television but I couldn’t tell if she was the one watching TV or the TV is the one watching her.

” Ngozi um Francis told me you went to the hospital today ”

” yeah, I…. Did ”

” Ngozi, do you know that you’re the most selfish and self-centered person I’ve ever met ”

Her eyes colored with anger

” if this is one of your religious quotes about abortion, I refuse to listen to it”

” no, it isn’t about that, it’s about you, you’re so wrapped up in your misery that you don’t even realize that you’re hurting the people that’s closest to you ”

” what do you mean by that”

” have you seen Kate, I mean have you really looked at her closely, Kate hærdly concentrates in class anymore, at this rate, I’m sure she wouldn’t be able to win the so called twenty million, she’s so worried sick about you and as for Bukky, ‘’she just has this dull look on her face anytime I see her ”

That seemed to get to her, her luminous eyes reflected pain and confusion.

” but… but…. Why!”

” it’s because they are worried about you! They’re not happy at all, everyone isn’t happy, even your little sister chioma, how can anyone be happy when you’re so pathetically miserable ”

” I…. Didn’t mean to make…. Anyone unhappy ”

I have said the true parts, it’s time to add some lies, I have found out that Francisco would do absolutely anything for zee, I just have to know if she would do the same for him

” and Francis, do you know what he has been up to lately, do you know that ….”

She stood up immediately and her eyes were filled with curiosity.

” what has Francis been doing! ”
She scre-med

” he’s started drinking and smoking, he now moves with the most notorious guys in school ”

” what! You mean Cisco smokes!”

She was sizzling with anger
Yeah, its working, anger is better than this abject depression.

Anger shows that she still has some spirit.

” he even takes weed too ”
I couldn’t help adding.

She stormed out of the parlor.

Her mom looked surprised cause Ngozi has never left the house since that incident.

” Ngo, where are you going to? ”

” to Francis house ”

I just pity Francis.

I quickly pass the backyard and ran to my house.

Francis pov

I was trying to do my assignment when I saw one person marching towards me.

I was instantly alarmed when I saw that it was zee, what could have made her look so angry.

” zee, what’s the mat….

I didn’t even complete my speech before two thunderous slaps sounded on my cheeks.

” you bastard, so you’ve started drinking and smoking, why Cisco!, tell me why!!”

I became confused
Me! Drink! Smoke!!

” you even take weed!!! ”

” zee, wait! Are you losing your mind!, where did you hear that one!! ”

” don’t you dare lie to me! Jerry told me everything just now!!!”

Oh! That stupid boy!
He said he’ll do anything to make sure zee is okay.
So this is what the idiot actually did.
He used me as a scapegoat

I rub my cheeks in pain.
Ngozi’s slap too dey pepper

” Ngozi, Jerry lied to you, you know I would never smoke not to talk of taking weed, you know the first time I smoked it made me sick ”

” but….but… Jerry ….

” he did it just to know if you still care about me and I guess you do”

” but I have always cared about you Francisco
I have always loved you, since we were kids ”

” then why do you keep rejecting me…. Why did you stop going to school…. If it’s about what people would say, you can endure it, this is just the last term, you know what, there’s one place you need to follow me to, I already bought the tickets and I.. ”

” tickets? Where! ”

” it’s a secret, come on go and get dressed!, today is the deadline ”

” Cisco, you’re making me curious ”

I literally pushed her to her house

” mama, go and wear clothe let’s go ”

” am I good to go ”

I look at the casual jeans and top she is wearing and I shake my head

” no, we’re going to an event, wear one of your
Fine long gowns and zee please make up, your face looks pale”

She pouted and sat on the chair

” I’m not going again! ”

” so that’s how you’ll just let my seven thousand that I spent on tickets waste Abi ”

” seven thousand! Wait for me I’m coming!! ”

She ran into the room and wore one of her room and returned wearing a black shimmering long gown, it suited her fair skin perfectly,
it has a low neckline and long sleeves, she packed her hair into a doughnut letting the loose tendrils curl around her nape, a simple silver necklace adorned her neck, her face was extra beautiful because of the
Subtle make up and her rosy l-ips were painted red.

I couldn’t help staring at her.

” how do I look ”

” wow!, you look amazing, come on let’s go ”

” hope it’s not far ”

” not really ”

We bade goodbye to her mom and left the house.

Tony’s pov

I drove back home with a disheartened expression.

There was no luck on my side.

I couldn’t find her so called friend so I couldn’t find her.

I was about to drive into the estate when I saw a young lady waving at me.

I whine down the glass and she came near the car, as much as I try to remember where I’ve seen her, I just can’t, her face looks so unfamiliar.

” good afternoon, if I’m not mistaken, you must be Mr Tony Adeyemo ”

“ehn yes ”
I said warily

” I’m sorry to ask this, but have we met”

” no we haven’t, I’m Amanda Smith and I’m here on behalf of my friend, Boluwatife Okikiola ”

My ears pricked up immediately.

” what about her, where is she, how is she ”

I couldn’t help asking.

Amanda gave me a sad look and she selected her words very carefully

” to be honest, Tife doesn’t know I’m here, she told me about everything that’s happened but she hasn’t been the same girl I once knew, she’s been so heartbroken and I believe you’re the reason behind that, it’s true that she lied to you but you have no idea how her life is, you have no idea of how it feels like to be trapped and want to do anything to never go back ”

I listen to Amanda as she told me about Tife’s family and all the dreadful things that she herself did to Tife.

I was filled with so much fury that I wanted to slap Amanda but I cautioned myself.

She has given me the greatest opportunity

Tife’s pov

I was cooking in the kitchen, Amanda’s favorite, Tuwo Shinkafa.

I placed earphones in my ears and start listening to sad music with slow beat.

It suited my mood perfectly.

I hear the screeching of a car and I became curious.

It isn’t closing time so it definitely can’t be Mr Smith.

I went to the parlor and peeped through the first window and I saw the very very familiar black car pull up in the driveway.

No! It can’t be him!
It has to be a coincidence!

I watch Amanda come out of the car and my level of curiosity became heightened.

I quickly headed back to the kitchen before she knows that I was spying on her.

” Tife! I can hear your footsteps, I know you’ve been spying on me, Hmmm! Where’s that heavenly aroma coming from! ”

” I’m making your favorite ”

” wow! Tuwo Shinkafa! Tife you’re a darling!, lest I forget, there’s something waiting to see you outside ”
Hope soared in my heart

” who ”

And the hope got crushed.

And as I stepped out of the house, stepping out of the car was the person I wh0leheartedly hoped it was, Tony

The words I wanted to say got caught in my throat

I stared at him awkwardly and when he spread his arms, I couldn’t help jumping into them, I couldn’t stop the silly tears that slid down my face.

” it’s okay, it’s all okay, I’m sorry ”

” how did you get here ”

I already know the answer before he even said it.

” Mandy, she told me everything, I had no idea how difficult life was for you, I just want to tell you that I’m sorry, I love you so much Angel ”

” I love you too, Tony ”

It seemed too good to be true but that’s exactly what I like the most.

The things that seems too good to be true.

” so when are you coming back to the house ”

” uh I um, it wouldn’t be a respectable thing to do now that I um, now that you know I don’t have memory loss”

” uh, you’re going to make this difficult for me because I intend to see you every single day”

” wow! So you mean you’re going to come over every single day ”

” yeah! Every single day till you come with me ”

” I intend to see how you’re going to keep that promise ”

” you’re such a doubting Thomas ”

And as I stood on tiptoe to k-ss him, his l-ips roaming over mine with the same passionate desire, I know everything is going to be okay.

He left me with a promise
A promise I hope he never breaks.

A promise of forever undying love.

And as I went back into the house and saw Mandy, tears of gratitude filled my eyes, I uttered the words I never thought I’d say to her.

” thank you so much Mandy, you’re the best friend I’ve ever had ”

Ngozi’s pov

” Francis but you told me this place isn’t far and we’re already at ikeja ”

” we’re almost there ”

We got to a popular event center and he showed the bouncers our tickets.

We went to the upper part of the hall and I was surprised to see so many people, I have the feeling that this isn’t an ordinary event, everyone was dressed in the height of fashion and I wonder what would have happened if I had showed up in jeans and top.

” Cisco, what’s going on here ”

” oh! It’s a talent scout, it’s for people who are interested in modelling, the best model gets signed by PYRAMIDS agency ”

I looked at him in confusion

I’m not interested in modelling

” won’t you give it a try, don’t you want to know how it feels like to walk on the runway ”

” you mean I can go up the stage, as in I can walk on the red carpet ”

” of course, come on let’s go and submit your ticket so you can be given a number”

I was given number twenty three.

As I watch girls around my age walking on the red-carpet with so much confidence, I began to get scared.

My name was called and I was filled with trepidation, it made me feel so self conscious

And as I stood on the red-carpet, people’s eyes were staring at me.

I almost tripped as I took the first steps, then I began to walk, not rigidly but with my head held high, like a proud peac*ck, strutting and fraying

And as I got to the finishing line, a thunderous round of applause erupted from the audience.

I finally realize what I’ve been missing

CONFIDENCE.

Francis pov

I open my mouth in awe as I watch Ngozi walk on the runway, I’ve never seen anyone look so confident, so self assured.

I became entranced, it was like I was seeing her in a different light.

She got to the end of the red-carpet and smiled.

A smile I haven’t seen in a very long time.

A smile that made me believe that the tears are all over.

A smile that gave me hope.

I didn’t expect her to jump into my arms but that’s exactly what she did.

” Cisco thank you so much, you’ve made me realize
that what happened to me doesn’t define me, you’ve made me realize that what sets me apart from other people is my confidence, without confidence I am nothing ”

She pressed her rosy l-ips against mine, biting gently on my lower lip.

And as I looked into her eyes, they were shining with hope.

” Francisco I know this may sound awkward but I want you to be mine, exclusively mine, I’ve realized that sooner or later you’re going to move on with your life, you’ll find someone better than me and I would only blame myself for losing you, I want you to be my boyfriend Cisco and that’s if you still want me ”

I looked at her in shock

Isn’t this the same girl that has been rejecting me.

Despite the hope in her eyes, there was still a great deal of uncertainty in them and I know that if I say no, Zee’s self confidence will be crushed forever.

Not that I was meaning to say no.

” how could you ever think that you’ll lose me, my love for you is like unlimited subscription ”

She frowns at me and A heavy knock sounds on my forehead

” unlimited sub that use to finish ”

She began to walk away angrily
I ran to catch up with her

Everyone in the hall were looking at us

” zee wait! ”
She turned around

” I may not be good with words but think about my actions, when have I ever made you feel like I don’t love you ”

” when we were twelve and I fell into a gutter and instead of helping me up you started laughing at me and also when I was thirteen and you came to our house and we broke daddy’s glasses and you told mom that I broke it in purpose when I was doing supergirl, should I continue listing them for you

I don’t even remember all the things she was saying.

Do girls ever forget anything!

” okay, my love for you is magnanimous ”

” Magna maga!, I don’t like anything that has maga in it, that one is a wayo love na, scam love ”

Everyone started laughing, they even thought we were acting drama.

I became frustrated and then I caught a silly smile lurking in the corner of her mouth.

Then I said the words she couldn’t argue against,

” Zee, my love for you is an undying love ”
