A dim light circulated the casino, transforming th complexion of half naked women and men who drank and made merry as if it was Christmas. At the bar was Crucifix with a bottle of liquor. He wore a jean trouser, canvas, a white polo and a milky jacket over it. A golden chain dangled on his neck as a wristwatch rested on his wrist too. Dude looked classic. He had stepped up to a different level. Before him was Linda, dusting some bottles of liquor.

The girl had her usual appearance; bold ear-rings, black gown and seemed mean. Suddenly, she saw Crucifix’ phone ringing on the cutout.

“Won’t you pick your call?” she said to supersede the loud music that blasted from unseen speakers.

Crucifix glanced at the phone to see Margret calling but ignored it. Hmm, Margret of all people was whom the boy was ignoring her call. What was going on?

“Forget about who is calling me.” Crucifix said dizzily. Obviously, he had become drunk before Ero could use him that night. “I want to really know who you are.” he added.

Linda smiled. “I don’t understand.”

“Wow!” Crucifix sat up. “So you can smile. I thought you’re kind of stone-code who doesn’t know the essence of putting a smile on her face. Finally!” he sipped a quantity of the liquor.

Just then, a lady arrived and Linda sold a bottle to her then turned back to Crucifix. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” she said.

“I want to know who you are.” Crucifix repeated. He just didn’t know how he would tell her his inability to read her mind and she, presuming to be his peace of mind.

“I’m Linda Kasia, I live down town, and I’m Emmanuel’s friend.” she explained.

“I guess Emmanuel must have told you about me.”

“Is there something special about you?”

Crucifix smiled and sipped another quantity of the alcohol while Linda leaned forward enthusiastically.

“This is the second time I see you here. Does Emmanuel know about this? Like you’re too innocent to be here. I mean this place isn’t for people like you and you’re drunk. What’s going on?” she carefully analyzed.

“What the mind bears is better left unsaid rather can be diluted with alcohol.” Crucifix replied. Just then, his phone began to ring again. Both glanced at it without a respond to the call. Linda rolled her eyes exhaustively…

On the other hand, Mr. Adams residence was as quiet as anything you can think of. Only the sound of ceramics at the dining room took the better part of the sound wave. Mr. Adams could see her daughter’s food untouched as she kept dialing a particular number. No doubt it was Crucifix’. He knew it but remained quiet.

“Margret, you ain’t eating. Keep that phone down and eat your food!” The mother commanded.

Margret exhaled, picked a spoon and began to shuffle the noodles sarcastically, monitored by her father who thought Crucifix was dead which was why he wasn’t picking his daughter’s call. The man pretended as if he knew nothing. Suddenly, Margret hissed and stood up rudely.

“Where the hell do you think you’re going to?” The mother rebuked her. “What’s wrong with you, Margret!?”

“Mum, Crucifix isn’t picking my calls. I’m worried!” she replied in a bogus polo which stopped before her knees. One could see her fresh thighs and probably her pant if mistakingly put her hands up.

“May be he’s busy with his homework, baby girl.” Mr. Adams found his voice.

Margret’s breathing rate changed as she stared at her parents. Already, the father had started feeling guilty, thinking he was one of the reasons his daughter was restless because he agreed on the killing her boyfriend.

“This doesn’t feel right.” Margret concluded and angrily left to her room. The parents could hear the slamming sound of her door.

Mrs. Adams turned to her husband. “Was that all you could say to your daughter in stead of cautioning her?”

“Let the young girl be. She’s only responding according to her age.” the husband began to dry his hands.

“I do not support this her relationsh¡p with the so called Crucifix. I have a plan for her.” she stood up aggressively too..

However, darkness had taken the best part of the atmosphere. Crucifix could be seen coming out from the casino. His eyes shone red, his head filled with alcohol and his mind absolutely abnormal at the moment. He saw Ero, counting a huge amount of money beside him which he was about to give him, but the boy sluggishly tapped his shoulder.

“Keep the money, Ero, I don’t need them. What do you say about getting me an apartment tonight?” he said drunk.

Ero looked at him. “Why?” he asked.

“My old man has kicked me out.”

Ero smiled. “Of course. My men will take you home to pick your things. They will also drive you to a befitting sanctum as long as we become stronger partners.”

“Deal” Crucifix smiled. He left his bicycle and entered into one of the cars owned by Ero. As he waited at the back seat, Ero pulled two guards closer to himself and whispered seriously, “Protect that kid with your life. If anything happens to him, you’re dead. He’s like a boss to you now. Am I understood!”

“Yes, boss ” the two huge men replied at once. One took the driver’s seat while another joined Crucifix at the back seat then they drove off.

Meanwhile, Kester could be seen wearing a black hand gloves with black jacket. On a table of his room was a pistol which he grabbed, loaded it and placed it behind him. He was on the move to kill the mind reader. Speedily, he drove to his residence and secretly pulled over at a corner. Again, he saw two men around Crucifix who was just packing his things into the car. Nevertheless, Kester stepped out from the car with the gun which he aimed at Crucifix who was about to enter into the car. He pulled the trigger! Luckily, the bullet jammed on the car door.

“f–k!” one of the guards pulled out his own gun and fired back at Kester who rushed back to his car. He released another bullet from there that killed the guard before he drove out.

Meanwhile, Geb seated tight in,side the house, hearing the gunshots. While the remaining guard speedily drove Crucifix away to his new apartment.

The apartment is magnificent. It is situated to the tent floor of a skyscraper. One could see Crucifix seated silently on a cushion with more body guards surrounding him. Suddenly, Ero stepped in with a stick of weed in his hand. The man looked sad like everyone else after hearing the news. He quietly sat down beside the boy who glanced at him with tears in his eyes.

“You care for some?” Ero stretched the half smoked weed to him.

Crucifix glanced at his face then quietly took it. He placed it in between his l-ips and inhaled through his mouth where he also blew off the smoke. He never returned it back, rather stood up with it and quietly walked to the window where he saw different colours of light from different buildings outside. Just then, his phone vibrated again. One of the guards brought it to him..

Mr Adams seated in the living room when he heard his daughter on the phone from her room saying, “Crucifix! Where the hell have you been? I’ve been calling you.”

“Sorry, my love. Got busy with something.” Crucifix replied on the phone.

“I really miss you…”

Listening to all that, Mr Adams concluded that Crucifix was still alive which could bring more problem to him and Mr Nelson even if he knew that killing Crucifix would break his daughter’s heart. He needed to do something; that was calling Kester and Mr Nelson, so he located his phone…

Back to the new apartment, Crucifix brought down the phone from his ear at the window. He could hear Ero’s footsteps coming from behind.

“I can’t believe someone tried to kill me.” He said without looking back.

“You see, Crucifix, the world itself isn’t safe from itself, not even the people in it. People have secret enemies.” Ero took another step forward. “Trust me, young boy. Whoever that pulled the trigger at you wasn’t my enemy. It was yours.”

Finally, Crucifix turned fiercely. His voice was mean and dangerous regardless the tears in his eyes. “I want to know who made an attempt to my life and i won’t stop until I bring him or them down.” He once again inhaled the smoke of the weed and blew it out ruggedly.

Wow, the boy just entered into another dimension of life. How would he had known that the same people that wanted him dead were the father of the girls he doesn’t joke with…..
