~ HOSPITAL ~

Beth ran into the hospital like a maniac and when she enquired about her mom, she found her in one of the ward.

Her mom was sleeping peacefully, like nothing happened to her but the bruise on her hand and forehead would tell you that some thing more than happened.

As if her mom could sense her presence, she open her eyes and on seeing Beth, she let out a soft smile.

“My angel” She called which got Beth going to her.

“As soon as I heard about you being here from Lily, I came straight away” Beth said slowly.

“What happen? How come this happened to you?” Beth asked.

“Some hood lums attacked me while on my way back home. Not wanting to feel useless, I decided to help by going out to purchase some urgent stuff but then I was way laid. They took my bag and though I fought hard for it, they manage on taking off with it and I fell hitting my head and also losing my conciousnes which ended me here” Her mother explained.

“You should have just given it to them, you shouldn’t have fight them back” She said having a perturb look on her face even as she took hold of her mother hand.

“I couldn’t let them take it without putting up a fight and besides the wallet you bought for me on my last birthday was there, I didn’t want to lose that too but I ended up losing it ” she said sadly starring at her bad arm.

“Don’t think about it. I will get you a new one and am glad you are safe. Don’t go out if you really aren’t needed, am there to do all the chores and I will do it okay” Beth told her and it got her nodding.

“When did the doctor tell you to leave?”

“He said I should get some rest in the hospital and then I should go home tomorrow but it will cost you money and so it’s best that you take me home now ” Her mother said and knowing she was right, Beth got her discharge that night.

Beth was helping her mom to their quarters when they saw Calvin pacing about in the garden.

And on seeing them, he quickly went to meet them.

“I heard about what happen. Are you okay ma’am?” Calvin asked and that got her mother starring at her.

“Ugh….yes I am” she said starring at Calvin and then to her daughter.

“If there is anything I can help you with, you should be free to tell me about it” Calvin offered.

“Err, yes I will” she replied again wondering why the boss is being kind to her and her daughter.

“Okay then, I will leave you too rest” Calvin supplied before going into the room leaving the two ladies starring after him.

“What was that about?” Her mother asked.

“What?”

“About the boss being kind to us, hope nothing is going on between you two?” Her mother asked.

“Nothing is and why do you even ask that?” Beth asked.

“I don’t want you to disillusion yourself. He’s not some one of our class and we are not some one of his class and so what ever romance you two might be etching and…..”

“Mom! There certainly isn’t any romance between us and they won’t ever be!” Beth defended quickly.

“Good then. I know you will stick to your word” She said as they slowly made their way to the maid quarters.

Beth wondered why her mom felt relieved at her not being romantically involve with Calvin not that she will ever even think of getting involve with him or with any other guy cause after Jason, she’s made a vow never to get involve with any guy and that is one thing she will stick to.

~ NEXT DAY~ SCHOOL

Beth was heading to class after using the ladies toilet when a conversation of two male students walking past her got her stopping in her tracks.

“The lady tried to defend herself and she was quite fierce but then her bad arm didn’t let her succeed and besides we’ve been payed to do a bit of injury on her” one of the male students said holding a wallet which Beth recognise as the one she gave to her mother for her last birthday.

“Where did you get that?” Beth asked suddenly which got them starring at her.

“Why? Does it seem like yours?” The one holding the wallet said.

“Yes, very much like it” Beth retorted fiercely which got them laughing.

“This is something we got from an old lady last night and just so you know, we were sent to take scare her, so if you don’t want that happening to you then I suggest you…..”

“So you son of a bitch were the ones who harassed my mom last night!” Beth yelled which got them at a loss for words.

“You stupid girl! Who are you referring to as a son of a bitch!” The one with her mom’s wallet said moving towards her trying to scare her but Beth didn’t flinch.

“It’s because you are, why would you pick on someone who is harmless and did you no harm” She said again.

“You should say that to Katrina! She payed me to do a good job and I just did as she told me, so don’t come blaming us but instead blame Katrina who you chose to mess with” the guy said.

“Give me the wallet!” Beth demanded wanting to take it from him but he easily step back pushing Beth against the wall.

“Come get it if you can” he said while his friend laugh behind him.

Beth move towards him wanting the snatch the wallet from him but he moved away pushing her on the floor this time.

Determined to get the wallet from him, she stood up to take it from him but a voice behind her got her stopping.

“Having fun at other people expense is a bit sickening” Eric said pushing back a strand of his hair and on seeing him the boys sobered up afterall he is amongst the rich of the rich.

“It isn’t that, we were just….”

“Give the wallet to her” Eric said suddenly and that got Beth starring at him.

“But Katrina…..”

“Will deal with me if she has a problem, so give the wallet to the rightful owner” Eric said and all Beth could think of is why he is helping her.

Slowly the student gave her the purse and quickly fled.

“Thank you” she muttered starring at the wallet to see if some thing was missing and luckily every thing was still intact.

“Dummy!” He called suddenly which got her looking at him.

“Those kinds of people are meant to be reported not for you to fight them” he snap at her.

“Report! Do people like me with out power or wealth stand a chance to win even if I do report them?” She asked and that got Eric starring at her.

“You know it yourself that I don’t stand a chance, after all you laughed along with your friends while they made fun of me” she added accusingly and that got Eric moving towards her wanting to speak up in defense of himself but she ignored him totally.

“That will change from now and Katrina has a few things to listen to” Beth said with Determination even as she made her way to the RFR lounge.

Katrina was going through her phone when Beth walk into the room and straight towards while the other occupant of the room stared at them.

“Have you come to tell me you missed me cause I certainly don’t” Katrina stated starring at her manicured nails.

“You vile bitch! Did you have to stoop so low?” Beth asked which earned every one attention and Eric who was standing by the door way payed more attention on Beth.

“Now you listen…..”

“No you listen!” Beth said banging Katrina’s desk.

“Have had enough of you Katrina. I did every thing you said, even degrade myself to last bit and that was all for my mom. We left your house solely to get you off my back and out of my life but still you keep looking for ways to bug me? What exactly do you want?” Beth asked.

“Your apology and for you to scram out of my life!” Katrina return fiercely also banging her hand on the table.

” That will not be possible cause am here to stay. If you hate seeing my face then I suggest you get lost instead ” Beth threw at her which got the corner of her lips lifting in a witch like smirk.

“You really want it the hard way right? You want me to show you how crazy I…..” Katrina stop talking when Beth grab her by the back of her head and pulled her towards her.

“No, I will be the one showing you how crazy I can get if you touch my mom again. You thrive on power and wealth right then I will show you that I also have that too and will make you regret ever messing with me” Beth said letting go of Katrina and with one last look her way, Beth left their lounge leaving the others starring after her in admiration.

“Just what exactly did you do?” Willow asked coming to where Katrina sat shaking slightly.

“Have never seen her act that way before?” Dexter chip in.

“And I must admit that she has some guts” Josephine added which got Katrina glaring at her.

“I didn’t do much, I only wanted to scare her a little by messing with her mom and…..”

“That was going too far” Dexter spoke up suddenly which got her starring at him.

“I also echo what Dexter said. The fight is between you and her, you shouldn’t have tried to get back at her by using her mom” Josephine cajoled.

“If you say one word there, I will throw some thing on you!” Katrina said warning Willow not to add to what the others were saying.

Beth was on her way to class when she ran into Calvin who had just arrive.

“When exactly did you leave cause I was waiting for you at the…..”

“I will help you” she said suddenly which got him starring at her.

“Uh?”

“Don’t you want my help anymore? ” Beth asked.

“I do want it” Calvin said quickly.

“Am willing to give you my help and in exchange you help me with your protection ” she said.

“I will” Calvin promised holding her by her shoulders.

“Help me prove to Katrina that not only she has money and power at her beck and call. Help me prove that to her and I will help you” she said and Calvin nodded.

“I will, I will do that but first you need to calm down ” he said and ignoring her protest, he took her to the cafeteria where he bought her a cola which she gulp down thirstily to calm her nerves.

“Okay now?” He asked and she nodded slowly.

“Thanks” she said sipping the cola more slowly.

“Katrina must have pissed you off again?” Calvin asked and she nodded.

“She’s just so annoying and if it weren’t for the fear of her parents putting me or my mom in jail, I would have poke her eyes out” Beth said with feeling which got Calvin smiling.

Suddenly he put his hand on her forehead, patting it gently and that action from him got Beth starring.

“You have nothing to worry about cause I will protect you. So fight Katrina as much as you want, I will always be by your side to support you” he said which made her feel warm inside.

No one have ever told her that they will protect her and hearing it from Calvin made her feel strange.

Coughing to clear her throat, she looked away from him and continued to sip her cola wondering why the warm feeling she felt at his words won’t go away.
