Episode Sixteen
“Mum??” The voice which was Michael’s said. Philip stopped what he was doing immediately, looked at his son and smiled, Michael just stared blankly at him.

“I see, Veronica has not trained you well, have you lost your manners” He said as he still held Veronica tightly.

“Good afternoon” Michael greeted, not because he wanted to but because he doesn’t want the man to hurt his mother who by now had tear running down her cheeks.

“Didn’t your mom tell you, am your father and am here to take you” Philip said.

“That’s won’t be possible, I won’t leave my mom for anything” Michael answered back boldly.

“Wow! You inherited some of your mom’s boldness, but guess what, is won’t work” Philip said looking at Michael “and you, what should I do to you for making my son like this??” He asked as he shook Veronica, who let out scre-ms, he slapped her to keep quiet to Michael’s displeasure.

“You won’t go with my son, or if you do I will report to the authories” She said with a serious face.

“Now, is that a threat???” He asked.

“Call it what ever you want, but if you try me, I will do it” she said with hærd stares, Philip looked at her and saw the seriousness on her face.

“Really!?, then I don’t need to remind you the consequences, because that was what has shut you up for years” Phillip answered, Veronica looked scared as she looked at Michael who was wondering what the consequences are. “You son, will be punished severally on your watch, and later you will be the one to pull the trigger through his heart with your eyes opened there after I will have my way with you and let both my dogs and the boys have you including killing some innocent people” Philip stated, Michael was shocked to his bones, now that is not his father but a monster who was the head of the ‘deadliest’.

“I……. I…….. You won’t go with my son……. Youuuuuuuu……. won’t” Veronica stuttered, Michael watched with pain in his heart and wondered how this man before him could be as deadly as the devil.

“I will, watch me” Philip said, took out his phone and texted something when he was through he returned his phone to his pocket and made for Michael place.

“Noo!!” Veronica yelled and pushed him back to where she was, she punched him with her little hands on his face.

“So you thought that could stop me, than try again honey” he said as he slapped Veronica and pushed her away, he made for the crying Michael.

“No you won’t” Veronica went to where they were, Philip was holding Michael’s hands, Michael was crying not knowing what to do, as Philip made to move to the door, Veronica hit him on his neck, he became anger and brought out a gun pointing it to Veronica.

“Let’s do this the hærd way then” He said as he placed his hands on the trigger ready to pull it.

“Philip don’t do this, don’t” She said as she was moving closer to him with fear.

“One more step and I will shoot you” Philip said.

“Michael don’t do that to yourself!” Veronica yelled said looking at Michael who was not doing anything to himself, she said it to distract Philip which worked, she knocked the gun away from his hand, Philip was angry and they both made for the gun which was some distance away, Philip got to the gun first as he wanted to pick it, Veronica kicked the gun away, he was furious and began to beat he, Michael don’t know what to do, he couldn’t ran out for help because Philip might kill his mother, nor could he help his mother in fighting.

Philip brought out a pen kinfe, Michael saw it, he was scared, Veronica didn’t see it as she was still struggling to get herself away from Philip because he was on top of her, giving her heavy punches with his free hand, as he was about to stab her, they had a smashing sound and slowly blood began to ooz out of Philip’s head, he fall on her, she pushed him away and behold her son was with a broken flower vase .

Michael who has been between the devil and the deep blue sea, had looked around and seen the beautiful and heavy flower vase his mother bought some years ago, he removed the flower and had walked quietly to the duo and smashed the vase on Philip head.

“Mom are you okay??” Michael asked his mom was whose clothes was tattered, her bodies were filled with injuries especially her face which was swollen and disfigured.

“Ohh no, I am but you are not, they will come any moment, Adetomiwa, run away go to James, run now, run” Veronica said hurriedly.

“But, mom, I can’t leave you alone…. Mom please” Michael pleaded with tears.

“You have to, go now, now run” Veronica said hurriedly as they could by now ear the sounds of cars coming.

“If they ever get you, I will not forgive myself, after all I have done, Michael run, run, run.. Ru…” Veronica was saying when they had a gun shot, Philip had used it last strength to crawl and get the gun and he had shot Veronica on the leg, she cried in pains, as she fell down holding her injured foot, and with that Philip breathed his last.

“Mom… Let’s…” Michael was saying when his mom slapped him, he was sitting on the ground holding her. He held his cheek crying.

“I love you, and I know what is best for you, I said run, go to James, he knows what to do, that’s my wish Michael, leave” She said and pushed him after pecking him on the cheek. She heard footsteps coming closer to the door of the house, Michael was still standing. “That’s my wish son!!!!!!! Run!!!!!” She shouted with her strength, and with this Michael ran away using the back door, he stopped looked back at his house, and continued to run with cries of pain and agony.

The house was surrounded with masked people, but suddenly, guns started firing, the police and the members of the ‘deadliest’ were the ones exchanging bullets. Veronica heard the gunshots, she was losing blood and becoming weak, she passed out. The police gained over the group and latter retreated. Veronica’s bodies and that of Philip was carried out.

When Veronica woke up, she saw that handcuffs were in her, she signed and prayed that her son was safe.

Investigation went on for sometimes, and when Veronica was well she was charged to court for murdering her husband, being his accomplice, for keep quiet and not reporting him to the police when she knew his identity and also for housing a criminal, she pleaded not guilty but it didn’t count as she was sentenced to life imprisonment, she knew it was the group that was paying her back.

After somedays, words came to her that her son is safed and has traveled out of Nigeria. She was also given a letter that was from Michael.

Mom, thanks for everything, am sorry I couldn’t saved you or fight with you but trust me I will come back for you, with all your wishes fulfilled, stay save and alive for me, I love you, and I will miss you.

With Love from Michael ✉️ ✉️. After reading the letter she smiled and went to clear her own potion of the grasses.

By now, Michael and his mother were in tears. After some minutes Michael wiped his tears, looked at his mother who was still crying.

“Mom, it’s okay, am glad you are alive now” He said, his mom, wiped her tears, looking at her son through the video call, she smiled.

“So it was after some years, someone suddenly showed Interest in my case, I declined first but later accepted, they took care of me, and after years of working on my case, I got released, it was then they told me about you, I was so happy and glad, you won’t believe that I search your name on Google and oh my, you were there, very famous, guess my wishes were fulfilled” She said smiling, Michael also smiled.

“Am so happy that I can talk to you know and I know one day I will came visiting, I was so worried on the plane, even when we got to our destination I was still worried, I tried to find out about you but I couldn’t, I always thought about you and every thing that happened but seeing you now fills my heart with joy” He said and she nodded “Now let’s hear my story” Michael said, his expression changed to a very sad one and his mother wondered why……
