Chapter 12. 🥺

“What!? How can the boss behave so rashly and give you the position of the team leader?” Stella exclaimed. Sophia frowned and pouted. Why is Stella acting like it is a big deal?

It is actually a big deal to Stella. She couldn’t believe her ears when she heard the news about Sophia being elected as the new team leader. It spread like a wild fire and everyone is talking about it.

One of the special assasins fell sick and needed to be replaced, only no one imagined that Sophia would be the replacement. How many days has she spent in the organization to merit such favour?!

She doesn’t even have any experience whatsoever in this assassin job, so why would Mrs. Smith suddenly elect her as the new team leader for the mission ahead? What is going on?

Does she have an ulterior motive for doing this? That must be the case! That woman never ceases to amaze them. She was the same person that was worried about Sophia being a spy and now she assigned her to lead the special assasins.

“What’s wrong? Why are you so against the fact that she chose me as the new team leader? Are you jealous of my success?” Sophia retorted angrily.

She can’t think of any other reason why Stella is acting so unhappy about the news except for the obvious fact that she is jealous of her luck. She’s a child of grace, her parents will never depart from her. God won’t desert her too.

She is very upset and angry that Stella can actually feel this way to her after all the love and care she showed her since she brought her here and saved her from that hotel room.

“No, no… Don’t misunderstand me. That’s not it,” Stella said and tried to move closer to Sophia but Sophia moved further away from her with an angry look.

“Then why are you acting like this? Shouldn’t you be happy for me? I prayed all night for this and am happy one of the girls fell ill and I became a replacement”

“Will you just listen to me! I just find it suspicious that ma’am gave you such an important position. You don’t have any training or experience so why would she just elect you as the team leader? Don’t you find it suspicious as well?” Stella asked and Sophia looked at her without saying anything.

“What if she just chose me cause she has seen the potential in me?” Sophia rolled her eyes.

Stella laughed and told her,“My dear Sophia, you really are so naive. Madam wouldn’t just choose anybody for this position. If you ask me, I will tell you that Mrs. Smith has a motive.”

Sophia looked at her. Does she really have a motive for choosing her? Turns out that Stella was absolutely correct cause few days before the assassinators finally embarked on their journey to find the perpetrator that was behind the plane crash, Mrs. Smith asked someone to call Sophia.

The girl that came to call her directed her to a room which she said is where Mrs. Smith wanted to see her. There was a king-size bed by the left side of the room.

There’s also a fireplace and it burnt slowly to keep the room warm. It wasn’t stuffed, the paints on the walls were adorable. It’s free of dirt, just like her used to be room.

Unlike other kids, she doesn’t like teddies and toys. Her room wasn’t stuffed, just pink paint on the walls and three artworks of her, her parents and friends. She shook the thought off her head grimly.

There was someone on the bed. When Sophia walked closer, she gasped. On the bed laid the most handsome guy she has ever seen, Justin Smith.

He looked adorable even on sick bed. She couldn’t believe her eyes. She felt like strangling him to death, but she was touched by his condition.

“Serves you right!” She muttered, but her heart said the opposite and she despises it.

He is in coma as was told? Series of tubes were connected to his body, his enigmatic and refined expression was still present even at that. She couldn’t stop gaping at him with her mouth wide open.

What if he wakes up and… No! She has to find a way out sooner before he wakes up and everything changes!!

He was wearing a plain hospital gown even when he is at home. There is an oxygen mask connected to his face. The only sounds heard in the room is from the vital sign beeping machine.

“Sweet Jesus!” She grasped and fought not to do something stupid. Wait, now she understands.

How can she be so dumb?! Justin Smith, the same guy that raped her? The son of the man that kîlled her parents? And now, she is caught up in his mother’s organization!

“How come I didn’t think… Holy crap! The Smiths!! I can’t believe I’m serving my enemies. What do I do now?” She cursed, but her eyes never diverted from his face.

Sophia couldn’t stop staring at him. She didn’t even notice when the door opened until she heard that familiar cold voice that made her flinch a little bit in fear.

“What are you doing here?” Sophia turned around instantly when she heard Madam’s voice behind her. She bowed and greeted her before telling her that someone directed her to the room to see her.

“Yes, I asked someone to call you but I never asked her to bring you to this room. Why are you in Justin’s room? Don’t tell me you just accidentally wandered into my son’s room?” Madam’s voice was really harsh making Sophia break into cold sweat.

Did that girl purposely mislead her into this room? Was she planning to make her get in trouble with the boss? It is really suprising that she still doesn’t know that so many girls are already jealous and envious of her because she suddenly gained favour in Madam’s eyes so it is only natural that they will try to plot evil against her.

“I am very sorry ma. I lost my way. I wouldn’t have intentionally wandered into this room. I will leave right away,” She apologized and turned to leave but Mrs. Smith suddenly stopped her.

“Since you are already here, let’s talk about it here,” She said and Sophia looked at her. What is she going to say? What does she want to talk about?

They sat down around the fire place. Mrs. Smith threw small chopped firewoods into the fire and cleared her throat.

“I know you must be wondering why I suddenly gave you the position of the team leader. Actually, I want to test your loyalty to this organization. But first, before you embark on your journey, you have to undergo serious training,” Mrs. Smith said.

“Since this training will be for only a short time, I have hired expert trainers for you. I hope you can brace yourself and endure the training. ” She added and Sophia nodded again.

How hærd can it be? But she was proven wrong once again when someone suddenly came to her room the next day as early as four am for her early morning excercise.

She grumbled and had to wear tight clothes to the cold field. The sleepiness left her eyes when she saw how serious the training was.

She almost ran away when she met the man assigned to train her on gun fighting. The man is very tall and huge. His face was so stern like he was forced to teach her. He looked like he could just squash her in his palm. Mr. Nickolas is his name.

Mr Smith was totally confused on what to do. He’s worked hærd to get Mr and Mrs Williams out of the way, and he didn’t expect Mr Mc Millan’s sudden opposition to his quest for more wealth.

He sighed and stood up. Picking up his phone, he called a man that once worked for him,“Hello… I need your help once again.” He kept mute for a while and waited for the recipient to reply.

Then he replied,“I know… I know… I haven’t paid up my debts for the previous mission. It’s just that when I acquired this company, it wasn’t doing too well anymore. I’ll pay you back as soon as I can.”

The recipient spoke again and he nodded before continuing,“What I want to say is that, there’s someone out there that knows all my dirty secrets. He has been threatening me with it and won’t stop unless I let go of the company. I can’t possibly let go of the source of my income.”

He paused again and let the person at the other end speak. After a while, he looked relieved and he said,“Thank you… Thank you so much. I will send half payment now and send the rest including the pending payment when it’s completed.”

Then he cut the call and immediately transferred the money like he promised. He just wants to deal with Mr Mc Millan for daring him. What gave him the impetus to toss him around like a piece of trash?

“Goodnight,” Sophia said softly as Alex walked her to her doorstep. He nodded and smiled before waving at her.

Sophia couldn’t believe her eyes. Why is he acting so nice to her? Shouldn’t he be worried about his girlfriend? But no… Instead he took her out. This place they went is like a country on its own.

It has everything. A mall, a restaurant, bar,
mini amusement park and all other fun center.

She was feeling both exhausted and happy when she walked in. She really enjoyed the day trying different combinations of icecream flavours.

She went on the ferris wheel with Alex. He treated her today like how she has always wanted to be treated. He was exponentially caring today that she got a little worried at first that he suddenly came to her and asked her out.

Honestly, she never expected it. It is true she likes the good-looking guy, but she didn’t need anyone’s help or anyone being too nice to her like he did today. She was forced to suspect his sudden change of heart towards her.

He only ever acted so cold to her so why was he warming up to her all of a sudden. She walked and almost crashed into Stella. The latter winked at her turning her into a blushing mess.

“Don’t forget… He has a s××y goddess as a girlfriend. A cruel s××y goddess,” Stella reminded her. The happy look on Sophia’s face deflated. Stella sighed and continued,“I just don’t want you to fall too deep for him. You should know the bitter truth now before it’s too late.”

Sophia forced a smile and nodded. She replied,“I know… I know. I just want to be friends with him and that’s why I accepted to go out with him. I don’t usually have time for men, but I’m an adult and I deserve some fun no matter how heavy my heart is right now”

“So what were you doing with Mr hottie if you don’t want him like you claim?” Stella teased. Sophia pouted and glared at her.

She knows who Stella is talking about. She knows she is talking about Alex and she also knows she thinks they are together. She didn’t reply.

She just undressed, took a quick shower and went to bed. For even if she explained her sad story to Stella, she would not understand or probably won’t believe it.
