Chapter 45 🔞

“This house has been sold and you are expected to vacate this building in three days’ time. Excuse me, I will take my leave now!” A bald man said, adjusted his cap and left the shocked couple to deal with their problem.

Mr and Mrs. Bryan Wesson exchanged looks in disbelief. Why would the landlord suddenly sell this house? They are poor, but they work hærd to pay their bills and take care of their children. Where have they gone wrong?

They went into their living room and sat down quietly. None has the right words to say to the other. The worst of the situation is that he gave them only three days. Who is supposed to get a new house and park out in that little amount of time?

Something is wrong somewhere! They have lived in this house for thirty years, almost all their lives, and the good man suddenly wants them out and is ready to refund them the money remaining with him!!

“This is unbelievable! I think we have to go talk to him. How could he do something like this to us after so many years without giving us an earlier notice? What are we supposed to do now?” Mrs. Bryan spoke first.

Mr. Bryan sighed and supported his jaw with his knuckles. “I have to call Alvin and tell him about this unexpected notice. We can’t fight him, it’s his house and only he decides what he does with it.”

“Is that all you have to say?” Mrs Bryan asked her husband, surprised that he would simply give in while they have rights!

Alvin is his eldest son who recently got married. He lives in a two bedroom apartment with his wife and daughter. So Mrs. Bryan doesn’t see any hope for them if they pack their things and go disturb the young couple.

They were in that gloomy state when Molly and Tyler came back.

“Good evening, mom, dad?” They greeted at the same time.

“Where have you been?!” Molly’s mother asked angrily.

Molly knew something was wrong for her mother to ask her about where she went in such a way, so she replied calmly. “Mom, we went to look for work…”

“Work? Didn’t I tell you that your education is more important?! Do you really want to live like us? Everything we are doing is for you and you are determined to push us to the wall, what kind of a daughter are you?!!” Her father queried furiously.

She was confused by their snarls. What could have happened for them to react to her in such a way. “Dad, it wasn’t for me, it’s Tyler who…”

“And did you have to go with him? Go upstairs now and read your books like you usually did. You keep changing without knowing because of this guy!” Her father scolded.

“Sir, calm down, did something happen while we were away? I don’t think she has done anything wrong for you to…” Tyler started,

Mr. Bryan raised a hand to stop him. “Young man, don’t dictate to me how to train my child! We have been encountering more bad lucks ever since you started dating my daughter!!”

“I think that is okay, honey. Don’t blame him for whatever that has happened, it’s not his fault that we were given notice to leave this house, he meant no harm.” Mrs. Bryan pointed out calmly.

Molly was already on her way to her room when she heard what her mother said, she twirled around in surprise. “Mom, what do you mean by we were asked to leave this house? For all I know, we are not owing the house owner,” she wondered.

Her father sighed in weariness and sat down. Mrs. Bryan shrugged. “His lawyer left just now, he told us that he’s giving us only three days to pack our stuff and go. I don’t know what or why he’s suddenly like that.”

Molly came back and sat down beside her father. “Dad, I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were depressed. Why would he be like that? We have been living here and he has never complained about anything. What could the problem be?”

“You are right, my presence here is nothing but bad luck. I know why this is happening, and it’s all because of me. I have to go somewhere now,” Tyler muttered and left the house angrily.

“Tyl, what are you talking about?! Where are you going to?!!” Molly ran after him.

He was already crossing the street when she caught up with him. She blocked her path, and grabbed his hands. “I’m talking to you!” She gasped.

He swallowed his anger and calmed down. “I need to go talk to my grandfather. He’s the only person I know that can do this sort of thing. I’m sorry that I dragged your family into this mess, I didn’t mean to make you suffer like this,”

“How would you know that he…”

“I know what he can do. Molly, remember one thing, no matter what happens, you are the one person that I love. I won’t forgive myself if I make you feel sad.” He held her hands and squeezed reassuringly.

“It’s not like there’s anything you can do about this. I don’t want you to get hurt if you try to stop him. And you are talking as if you might never come back. What are you planning to do now?” She asked him worriedly.

He sniffed uneasily. “I don’t even know, I’m such a coward. How dare me love someone like you? I thought I would be able to fight for this love, but he knows exactly what to do to hurt me, he knows my weakness. I could have left instead of doing this to you.”

“Tyler, what are you talking about? Please, stop talking like that. Loving you is the best thing I have ever done in my life. I don’t want you to go and confront him, we can work out something together,” she pleaded.

“It’s not like that…” his phone vibrated and his head fell sadly. “He will never stop hurting your family.”

Molly put her hand into his pocket and brought out his phone to see the text message from his grandfather. “That’s just the beginning. You still have the third choice if you don’t want her to get hurt.” She read out loud and looked up at his face.

Fred massaged his wife’s legs and laughed over what his mother was saying as she played with his kids. They were at his mother’s garden.

“Whatever, I’m just happy that he is here. I will go out there and look for work myself if that will keep him right beside me.” Angelina replied the older woman’s mocking question.

“The two of you should start teaching in that school, but I would advise you to keep my grandchildren out of any classroom that Fred is admitted into because I know the only thing he will be teaching is how to investigate a case. NYPD will be open for all the students he will lecture even for one day.” Fred’s mother returned.

Fred laughed again, not ready to dive into women’s discussion especially when he’s the subject of the day. Angelina glared at him and knocked his hands off her legs.

“What have I done now?” He grinned contagiously.

His phone rang, he excused himself to go outside and take the call, but Angelina snatched the phone from him and answered it.

She was afraid because she had another dreadful dream yesterday night, just when she thought it was finally over and he’s settling down for good.

Before she was able to say a word to the caller, a deep voice said. “I think it’s the right thing to do. I will be waiting for you at the place we talked about, this is the only way I can help Mr. Williams only child. She might still be alive.”

Fred didn’t know what to do. He didn’t need to hear anything from the caller before he knows it’s the man that called him yesterday morning and told him that he knows everything about the case of Mr and Mrs Williams which he has been digging his ass out looking for witness.

They had chatted and decided he would take a night flight for his safety back to their old residence so he can personally tell him everything and stand in as a witness to testify that Mr. Smith murdered the couple and claimed their wealth.

“Hello? Mr. Fred? Can you hear me? Mister, are you there?” The voice kept asking as Angelina slowly gave the phone back to him and turned to go in,side.

Diana bumped into her as she showed her what grandma created for her with a combination of flowers and vegetables. “Mom, grandma said this is how the crown of Jesus Christ, the son of God looks like. Have you seen it before? Is this…”

“Take that nonsense away from my sight! Show it to that strange man standing there!!” Angelina yelled at her and walked away.

Diana moved backwards fearfully. She looked at the circular thing her grandmother invented and murmured. “But I have done nothing wrong.”

Fred came to her and shook her hair playfully. “Hey, don’t be like that, honey. I already told you that there are many signs of pregnancy in a woman, it has so many stages. You have done absolutely nothing wrong, she’s in one of those moods again, okay?”

“Whatever the nonsense stages are, go tell her not to scold my daughter without a good reason or I won’t forgive her.” Fred’s mother took Diana away. “Don’t mind those people, your grandma is here for you. I will build a paper boat for you,”

“Can a paper boat sail if I put it into water?” Diana jumped around happily again.

Fred went in,side their bedroom and met her crying and blowing her nose with a tissue paper. She threw each paper at his face after using it and pretended that she didn’t see him.

He caught the eleventh one and threw it behind him as he moved closer to her. “Babe, stop… you are wasting the tissue paper.” He took her hands and held it at a place.

“Leave me the hell alone! You can f×¢king go do what makes you happy and stop coming in and out of my life. Just tell me you don’t want me anymore, tell me to leave and I will peacefully go!”

“Do you really mean it? I was looking for a way to tell you to do that. You must’ve read my mind. You are free to get lost whenever you deem fit, I won’t stop you!” He said, looking into her eyes intently.

Angelina’s heart sank. “What did you just say, Fred?” She asked in shock.

“You heard me right. I have passion for my work and I choose it over you, and I will do that over and over again. You have been getting on my nerves, blocking my way and making it hærd for me to focus! Leave if that’s what will make you happy!!” He yelled, still holding her hands tightly.

More tears streamed down her face and blinded her vision. The corners of her eyes hurt, his words were like a double edged sword, piercing into her heart and killing her soul first.

She tried to stand up and he pushed her down to the bed again. “Where do you think you are going?!” He snarled.

“Since I’m no longer needed, it’s only right for me to pack and go.” She said, crying loudly. She doesn’t care anymore.

Fred laughed and went to close the door. He watched her flushed and confused facial expression and laughed until tears came out of the corners of his eyes.

“Really? Is that what it looks like to you? Honey, nobody leaves! Let that stick into your thick skull.” He pulled off his shirt and joined her in bed.

Angelina was still confused even as his l-ips met hers. He pinned her hands over her head and k×ssed her tears away.

“That must’ve broken your heart. Darling, what makes you think I would ever say that to you? You are my life, Angel. If you leave, I can’t handle it, I will die.”
