“Hey man talk to me…I know you’re not happy right now, tell me what’s up!” Harry said being serious.

“Well I….”David is unsure of how to start talking about what he’s thinking about,he sat straight on his chair and placed his arms on his desk.

“What do you think about my mother’s sudden sickness?”he asked instead.

“What do you mean by that?”Harry looked at David like a lost goat.

“Well I was just thinking,….my mom could be making that up”David bit his lower lip lightly, that’s exactly what Diana does when she’s nervous, now why is he the one doing it instead of standing up and shoving his hands into his pockets?!

He released his lower lip immediately and looked at Harry’s face to know if he noticed what he did.

“What makes you think your mother feigned sickness, got a doctor involved and even went as far as getting herself a hospital bed….your sister too, well that’s kinda unbelievable” Harry stated raising a questioning brow at him.

“I know my mother so well, and am sure she’s bent on making me marry Diana no matter what!”David bent over to look closely at his friend’s face, then added calmly “we made love last night”

Harry’s eyes popped out “you and who?!”he asked drawing his face closer to his’.

“Diana”he said flatly.

“You are joking right?…. I mean you said you don’t want her and you don’t even know much about her, did she sed-ce you or what?!”Harry’s eyes almost jumped off his face as he stood up and grabbed David’s shirt.

When David shrugged his shoulders, he asked sharply “what did you do man?!…are you ready to marry her?!…did you even use protection?!”

David freed himself from his firm grip before he stood up and adjusted his tie.

“Why are you getting pissed off about it?, I mean it’s not like I forced her,my mom must have paid her bride price as they make it look like,so she’s my wife and I will get to know her as time goes on”

“David, I know I was advising you about accepting her as your wife, yes! she will make a good wife but I didn’t mean you two should make the god-damned mistake of already having unprotected s€× without you knowing much about her,..now listen to yourself… she’s my wife and we will get to know each other as time goes on….gosh David, you are very stupid!”
Harry said scornfully.

“Hey man you have got to stop!.. I won’t take you insulting me in my office!”David charged pointing angrily at Harry.

“Oh right!…and I won’t take my friend acting stupidly as though he’s not learned, now think about this…if actually your mother hired this girl to pretend to be your wife..one she herself married for you…and this girl ceases the opportunity to get herself married to you because of course you are rich?!..don’t you see she’s playing her cards right!”

Harry walked around David’s office practically.

David’s anger dispersed immediately, his friend had hit the right button, if what he said is to be true, then Diana had deliberately allowed them make love without protection just to get herself pregnant for him!…but that’s not true…Diana told him the truth right?!…

He is just insecure due to what happened to him about his first love..he’s not going to allow the past get on his way again.
He took several deep breaths and sat down.

“See Harry,I know you have a point there,but I can assure you,Diana is not the kind of person to do such a thing, she’s just unique and different and I love her”

“You love her?!!…how many days have you spent with her that you can now vouch her honesty so loudly!”

“Please don’t make matters worst for me okay?!… I just….”

“Oh now am making matters worst for you!..fine!..I get it, I will leave so that I won’t make matters worst for you!..but before I go,let me make this known to you, am not telling you to leave her if you say you love her, but Mr lover get it real and know the woman behind the mask!…bye!”

Harry walked out of the office.

David was short of words, what’s wrong with his friend today? Isn’t he the one who is always advising him to make her, his’?.

He even threatened to take her away from him!.Now he’s angry simply because they made love last night!.

When he got over his shock,he grabbed his keys and headed out.

“Emily cancel every appointment for today and reschedule for tomorrow!” he said to his secretary as he dashed out.

Emily looked at the already closed door in astonishment. She had wanted to say something but her words hung on the air.

“He had been happy for a few days now, what’s up with him and his friend this time, haven’t seen them in such moods before, they get along well”Emily talked to herself as she wondered what happened in the office just then.

“What?!”
Diana was surprised.

How could Melvin call her and tell her that he’s at the gate.

“Which gate?”

“At your best friend’s house,you know Trish,….I have missed you so dearly,that’s why I decided to pay you a surprise visit,come on baby I want to k-ss you breathless tonight,I ……”

“Please tell me you are joking?!”
Diana asked impatiently.

She has been happily watching a movie with Tricia and her mother,he had called her for the first time then, which she ignored.

When they had diverted to playing chess, he called her for the second time which she took excuse from them and went to a balcony to answer.

Now what’s he saying?!,that he’s outside the gate waiting for her!…how in God’s name did he get here?!.

“Baby are you surprised,am your sweetheart,I know just were to find you when I need you..common baby don’t keep me waiting!”

Diana looked at the phone in disgust.

What’s she supposed to do now?

Meeting him is not a problem,the problem is that he won’t let her go,he’s that kind of possessive person.

“Mel,it’s not been up to two days that I came over to your house, why do you have to come looking for me?”She thought of talking to him quietly to know if she will be able to send him away.

“Oh yeah..but I have missed you”

“And I talked about you staying away for the meantime until this holiday is over”

“Yeah,but …..”

“No buts!… please honey you have to leave the gate if actually you’re there”

“Baby…..”

“Infact,am not around at the moment,get going..love you!..bye!”she cutted the line,she knows he has alot to say but she’s not ready for him.

She’s tired of him anyways.

With his jealous and possessive nature,she laughs when she imagines them together,she and Melvin.

She went back in,side.

“Baby girl who was that?”Tricia asked smiling.

Maggie looked at her in contemplation.

These mother and daughter too like gist.

“Your head”she replied forcing herself to be cheerful again.

David looked at the man standing beside a car right in front of their gate and wondered how stupid people could be.

How could he park his car right in front of someone’s house blocking the gate like it belongs to him.

He stepped down from his car and walked closer to him,even if he’s waiting for someone,he should park at oneside not block his gate.

“Hello,how may I help you?”he tried being gentle though he’s still angry.

“Do I look like I need your damn help mother f-cker?!!”Melvin snapped and opened his car door to get in.

“I should have known you are a bastard, you son of a bitch!”David lost it.

He jammed his car door close and glared at him.

“Common!..you wanna hit me,do it!”
David shouted glaring at him right back.

“You are very lucky am in a friendly mood today,if not I would have disfigured that handsome face for you!”

Melvin barked and hurriedly entered his car.

“OMG! ..am shivering!..fool!!…get that scrap out of my sight …looser!!”David shouted hitting Melvin’s car .

Melvin turned the car’s engine and made a crazy turn, the car almost crashed on David’s own though it’s not even in anyway near the road.

David watched the crazy guy’s car as it jumped out of the vicinity.

He went angrily to his car and punched the engine to live ,he jabbed on the horn and drove in,side just as soon as the gate opened with high speed.

“Mom?!”

Maggie, Tricia and Diana looked at David in bewilderment.

“David what’s wrong?..why are you p-nting like you just ran a hundred meter?!”

Maggie stood up and went closer to him.

“Who’s that bastard that I saw in front of our gate?!!”
He shouted pointing towards the gate.

“Who?!…I don’t remember having any visitor come around our house, did you guys see any?!”
Maggie turned to look at Diana and Tricia who were both looking at them with wide eyes .

“No” Tricia pouted her l-ips.

Diana couldn’t believe Melvin was actually waiting for her at the gate, she knows he’s the only person that can show ill manner to a stranger.

That guy will never change.
But she won’t admit that she knew any bastard standing at the gate, would she?!….

“I don’t think I remember seeing anybody around here”

She replied looking at everywhere but David whose eyes were on her now.

“What really happened out there David?!..who was it?”

Maggie asked holding him so he would calm down, she showed weak features on her face to show him that she’s still unwell.

“David what happened?”Tricia asked worried about the look on David’s face.

“One stupid fellow with a Mercedes Benz c350 blocked the gate and had the guts to curse me when I tried talking to him!”
David tried explaining angrily and sat down.

Only God knows he’s not just angry because of the moron, he’s been angry before he met him, the guy is lucky he has more control over himself today, if not…his teeths would have sat beside him in his car when he’s driving home.

Tricia looked at Diana.
Who doesn’t know that Melvin is the owner of the car David mentioned, at least she hasn’t seen it around their school or her residence.

If Nadia is here,she would be looking at Diana just the same.

Diana avoided her friend’s eyes as she sat down,she’s afraid if she keeps standing,her legs might buckle and she will slump down .

“That’s a big nuisance!..who could that be?!”Maggie commented twitching a brow.

“Have no goddamn idea!”David returned.

Maggie looked at Tricia,she shrugged her shoulders and sat down.

Diana looked at Maggie with more confused face when the older woman looked at her.

“I don’t think I have any idea… David did he do anything stupid?!”,Diana looked at David instead.She hopes the answer is’NO’.

“Why?…”David asked.

“Well I was just wondering if he’s done something silly for you to be this angry”Diana replied coyly.She entwined her hands carefully on her laps and gazed at it.

“He was too insultive,but he’s not my problem now anyways”.

“Mmm, okay….so why did you come home so early,I mean it’s not up to two hours you left here…or I should say you ran away from me”Maggie asked.

“I….you know….”David didn’t know how to throw the question in his mind at his mother,he shifted uncomfortably on his seat and asked instead”Mom,can we talk in private?”

Maggie looked at him inquisitively before turning to look at Tricia and Diana whom wore surprise looks.

Who knows what he wants to talk in private!…
That’s exactly what is running through their minds.
David is aware of that.

“I and Diana will be in my room”Tricia said taking Diana’s hand”we need to have some girl talk as you two have a mother and son talk”she added as they left them.

David came to seat beside his mother.

“Mom,I ….I’m …. I…”

“David when did you become a stammerer,can you please talk to me,what’s the problem,did you do anything stupid?”

Maggie was quick to talk, she didn’t care if he noticed that she’s not actually sick or anything,she needs to know what’s with him first and foremost.

“Mom I don’t know how to put this,…..did you really marry Diana for me?”he finally asked looking at her to see her reaction.

“Why did you ask?”
Maggie knew something is wrong somewhere, for David to ask her such a question ,or did he finally fall in love with her?!….if so.. thank God for answering her prayer, but if not….well….let’s see.

“I just want to know mom,she told me that you paid her brideprice,so I just want to know if that’s true”

Maggie must confess, Diana is something else, they never thought of that part, or that David was going to ask such questions.

But she’s a genius when it comes to lying, for her to say that and still act like she’s actually his wife…..did she go to acting school?… maybe liars college.

“Did you believe her?”
Maggie didn’t know how to answer him.

It’s not like she knows anything about Diana except her name…..just her first name….her surname…she has no idea, she didn’t bother finding out from Tricia because she didn’t think things will get this complicated one-day.

“Well…at first but I still want to hear from you”

“What if I tell you that she’s right?”

“I know you won’t want to lie to me for anything”

“David?”

“Yes mom?”

“Do you love her?”Maggie asked calmly.

“I… I….mom I don’t just understand,I mean my wh0le world has completely changed because of her and I can’t do anything without thinking about her….I…I mean I can’t get her off my mind and….gosh mom… I don’t know!”He stood up from his seat and walked around the parlour with his hands folded into balls in his pockets.

“Does she feel the same about you?”Maggie was surprised at herself for asking such a question.

Diana said she’s in a relationsh¡p and this was supposed to be a game that would end soon, it should have ended sooner if not that Diana played her cards well, now what?!…

“I can’t tell though she said something like that”

Maggie walked to him and took his hands,she smiled at him and hugged him tight.

She is more worried about him now,his heart is now involved,she had prayed for that and God seems to be answering her but there’s always a problem lurking somewhere around the corner.

She will have to pray his heart doesn’t get broken this time.

“My brother was once a kinda guy that chased girls around, but suddenly,he became closed in and hates ladies with passion”
Tricia started… looking at herself in her standing mirror.

Diana stood at her back helping her pack her hair.Her eyes were fixed on her’s which shone brightly in the mirror.

“Harry said something about David being inlove with a lady, I don’t know what happened between them, David never talked about it, he avoids talking about it…

and Harry is good at keeping secrets, he didn’t let me get a clue of what happened that separated them and left David depressed for almost a full year, since then he’s afraid of getting too involved with a lady, even in his business avenue…, please use the pink one”

Tricia pointed at the bed where she left her pink ribbon which she uses to beautify her hair.

Diana nodded and dropped the yellow ribbon she wanted to use in,side Tricia’s make up kit and went to take the pink one on the bed.

“Diana?”Tricia asked turning to look at her friend’s face.

“Yeah?”

“Melvin was the one at the gate right?”

“Well…yeah”

“He was the one who called you earlier when we were playing chess?”she raised a brow.

“True”

She took her lower lip between her teeth,she feels like a teenager whose mom is questioning about the boy next door.

“I’m really worried”
Tricia said sadly facing the mirror again.

She came from behind and hugged her.

“I know”

“Do you have any feelings…like real feelings for my brother?”Tricia looked at her friend’s expressionless feature on the mirror and c*cked her head to look at her sideways.

Diana looked away and took a deep breath.

“I… I can’t tell what I feel for him but it’s a lot like love if you understand what I mean”

“I shouldn’t have allowed you do this Diana… I..my brother…..you …gosh!… I’m so sorry”

“You don’t have to be,I chose to do this myself,I will find a way to end this,trust me…no one will get hurt okay?”

“It’s not about getting hurt and I’m more worried about you…this is going to be hærd on you if you develop any strong feeling for my brother, and Diana I think it’s time we put an end to this wh0le mess,it’s getting shitty!”Tricia snapped standing up to stare at Diana’s face.

“Dear friend…do you trust me at all?!”Diana smiled,it didn’t touch her eyes, and she knows Tricia so well to think that she will buy her false smile.”please don’t let this fash you,I will take care of it”she added and hugged her.

“Okay…did you get any text from Nadia?”Tricia asked as they fell on the bed playfully.

“No…. why?”she queried thoughtfully.

“Nothing much,she talked about a party, thought you might be interested”

“Don’t think David will give me a chance”

“Wow!!… married woman huh?!”

“Exactly”she laughed.

“Why won’t he…if I personally talk to him,he will…can’t go to that party without you”

“Like am your precious lucky necklace that you can’t go outing without abi?!”

“Probably!”

“Where and when is this party in question?”

“It’s ……..”

“Diana?!!”Maggie’s voice kept her silent.

Diana stood up abruptly and walked towards the door.

“I will call you babe, I know it’s time to go home with my hubby”she said quietly to Tricia and smiled all the way out.

Tricia lay down on her back and looked at the ceiling,what she saw is appalling.

David left with Diana after they have exchanged farewell words .He drove slowly along the lane …he didn’t get a satisfactory response from his mother,he had wanted more answers which she didn’t want to tell him.

He parked the car immediately beside the road,it’s pointless driving while his mind is somewhere else.

Diana has been watching her,and thought that maybe Melvin really did something stupid for him to be so unrested.

She took his hand and squeezed worriedly.

“Are you alright?”

“I.. I had a little argument with Harry earlier today, I feel that it’s actually my fault”
That wasn’t exactly a lie,was it?….no!…

“Whatever it is, you don’t have to blame yourself,okay?”

He looked at her,his eyes seems to be drawn to her l-ips.

“Yeah….”

“That explains why you came home early”

“Mmm.”.

He kept gazing at her.

“Why looking at me like that?”she asked taking her lower lip between her teeth.

“I make you nervous?”

“How did you know that am….”

“Because I know that sign”He said using his index finger to tuck strands of her hair behind her ear.

She swallowed hærd,he ran his fingers down her neck as he bent slowly to k-ss her.

“Hello there!!”someone knocked on his car’s door and brought them apart.

David knew what the person wants, he didn’t wait for him to tell them that he wants to drive in to the house which he packed his car in front. He started his engine and drove away, Diana smiled mockingly at him .

“You are going to pay for that!…don’t think it’s over”

He informed her and drove carefully home,he can’t wait to get home and rip those clothings off her.

His phone ringed, he signaled her to pick it.

Driving and answering calls had many gone, he’s not ready to be counted as one, he has nothing to hide from her.

The only people who would call him are his business associates, so what’s wrong with his wife picking his call. Apparently nothing is wrong with it.

Diana picked the phone and placed it on her ear.

“Hello?”a female voice came in …”hello honey pie, how’s your day?”she rushed on.

Diana didn’t know what to say, she simply handed the phone to him and looked away.

David looked at the phone and then at her surprisedly.

“Hello?”he decided to take the call by himself.

“Hello honey, aren’t you hearing me?…”
