David took Thelma’s hand into his and squeezed gently.She made to stand up but he stopped her”don’t do that, stay still”

She relaxed on the bed wincing painfully at the ache her movement caused.

“How are you feeling now?”he asked quietly.

“Am feeling better”she managed a sad smile.

“I’m sorry for letting you get hurt because of my inability to think things out carefully before letting you into danger like that”David apologized.

“It’s….it’s not.. your fault sir, I chose to do it,and I wish I..had helped you get that man,am sorry for making matters worse”Thelma said finding it hærd to say out the words.

“It’s ….”

He stopped talking to look at the door to know who’s coming in, Emily stood on the door way,she ran to her colleague at once.

“Oh my God Thelma!”she hugged her lightly and sat down beside her on the little bed.

“Am fine dear”Thelma assured her with a smile.

“I was really shocked to death like … I thought… Thank God!”Emily hugged her again overwhelmed by happiness seeing that she’s alive.

“Yes, God takes all the glory my dear”David added.

Emily looked at her boss for the first time.

“Am…sorry sir, forgive my manners,good morning”she greeted lowering her lashes to cover her eyes.

“No…no ..no!, you don’t have to be,I understand dear and I hope you had a blissful night?”David said and stood up slowly.

“Yes sir”she replied looking up at him again.

“Okay… I.. have to go to the office now,I will come back to check on you when am done at the office, evening precisely”he said.

“O..okay sir, thank you”Thelma was saying.

“I think I will follow…”

“No,stay with her so she won’t be too lonely,I will order food for you guys,have a good day”David cutted Emily off knowing exactly what she’s about to say.

“Alright sir, thanks”Emily accepted happily.

“Good,see ya”He walked out.

Diana sat down on the bath tub and thought of nothing but David, he really needs help as much as he hates to admit that.

And she believes the only help she would render to him is calling her father to help him.

And calling her father is opening door to many questions , she’s not even ready to banter words with her father.He loves her,she knows but he’s never tired of criticizing her for choosing the wrong direction as he always puts her choices.

“Diana,do you have any choice!”she said between clenched teeth.

She took the shower gel foam on her fingers and looked at it like something weird.
Nothing seems to get her mind off David and his problems,she released a deep breath and allowed her head fall backwards.

Diana gave up thinking of the right way to explain everything to her father and cleaned her hand on the towel beside her and reached for her phone.

“Mom is angry, hope she hadn’t told him, well…they aren’t the discussion type of couple, career parents jeez!”She blurted to herself and even laughed at her stupidity.

She dialled her dad’s number when she found it and waited for him to pick up.

“Yes?”her dad’s voice came in at once when he picked up,she almost cutted the line with the motive that she made a mistake by calling him.

“Ehm…dad..g.. good..”she stammered forgetting the time,she simply went silent.

“How are you doing?”Kendrick asked his daughter.

“Am fine dad,you?”she replied grinning at her own tiny voice.

“We are just the way you left us,your mother said you called and I hadn’t expected you to call me as well”he said sniffing.

“Well… I..it’s been a while,I wanted to know how you are fairing”she drawled tightening her grip on the phone.

“Thoughtful of you,hope you are good yourself?”

“Yes Dad”she mumbled.

“Your studies?”

“What?”she asked dizzily surprise that he asked after her studies,he does that rarely ever since she refused accepting to do his will.

“Your education?”he rephrased his question.

“Oh!..it’s fine, doing well”she said brightly happy that he asked.

“Okay,when are we to expect you back here?”

“I don’t really know,but I promise to come home soon,dad please,I ..I need you to help me with…in… finding something”she rushed on so he wouldn’t throw in another question.

“What could that be?”he queried.

“Dad, it’s…..”

*****

*Evening*

“Welcome”Diana welcomed David planting a light k-ss on his l-ips.

“How’s my beautiful wife doing?”he asked lifting her up.

“Am fine!…put me down”she laughed at his behavior.

“Why?,am I not allowed to take my wife into my arms and k-ss her to my satisfaction?”he raised a brow.

“Your mother and sister are…..”

“They know you are my wife,if they don’t like it they should vacate from my…our property”he said laughing.

“Mom,did you hear that?!”Tricia complained to Maggie as they took the stairs down.

David and Diana bursted into laughter as he allowed her legs hit the floor.

“That’s why I said go get your own man!”Maggie said smiling provocatively at her daughter.

“You didn’t say anything about us leaving his property!”Tricia whined pouting her l-ips.

“He has a right to say that when some single lady is invading couples privacy”Maggie said embracing her son.

“Wow!..it’s not David anymore,it’s me huh?!”Tricia said forcing herself not to laugh.

“David has a wife now,am waiting for my grandchildren”Maggie said as Tricia sent her a devious look.

David and Diana exchanged looks.

“How’s Thelma doing?”Diana jumped in to change the subject.

“Thanks to God,the bullet gave her just a strain wound, she’s getting better”he replied sitting down.

“Oh thank God!”they chorused.

“And the unknown gun man and his cohorts, any news of them?”Maggie asked as they all sat down.

“Well… nothing important as of today,just that the meeting which was part of their plan wasn’t held anywhere that I didn’t know, literally not at my company, anyways”

“They will surely be exposed one-day, just one fateful day, they …Peter and his cohorts whoever they are will pay for their crimes….all their evil doings against us…what did we ever do to him to warrant such an evil act against us?”Maggie said.

“Mom,I don’t know,I don’t really know, I can’t tell”David shrugged standing up as he untied his necktie.

“It’s going to be fine,go freshen up,I and Tricia made dinner”Diana said carrying his briefcase upstairs.

“Hope she’s not the one that personally cooked it because I don’t want to eat poison tonight”David snorted.

Diana laughed instead.

“Am sure going to die if I spend one more day in this cozy house of yours, gosh!…mom aren’t you saying anything?!!”Tricia snapped looking at Maggie.

“I won’t like my son to eat poison miss single lady!”Maggie teased.

“Thanks for the compliment!”Tricia laughed rumpling her face.

“Well deserved”Diana commented when she joined them again.

Peter looked from one man to the other angrily,they were all standing in the middle of an empty room.

“How could you be so careless?!, I told you to shoot David and you shot at a lady who doesn’t have anything to offer, okay…fine…the girl didn’t even die!”Peter shouted .

“See..it isn’t as easy as you think,the guy was seated in the police car, with police officers at each of his sides, I only thought that shooting the lady is the best way to get their attention off him, then I will get him down” Jack, one of the men said, his fair skin is all stained with tattoo, he has tribal marks on each of his cheeks.

“And why did she survive?”Peter tried calming down.

“The bullet caught her arm”Jack answered.

“I think we should replan, I won’t sit down and watch David live happily while I remain his servant, I must take vengeance for what his father did to my father, I can’t remain poor, I must get that company or I die doing it, David will know no peace until I get what rightfully belongs to me!”Peter fused.

“What do you suggest we do next?”Ben,a slim and very dark complexioned guy with big eye balls inquired.

“Diana” Peter murmured smiling deviously, he looked at their faces and bugged them to understand the message he sent them “he loves her, I know that, they have come back together, if we hold her captive, David will be easy for us to get” he lighted a cigarette and laughed loudly.

“Tomorrow, then”Jack nodded as they shook hands, stamping an agreement.

“She’s your daughter”Kendrick laughed.

Jasmine lay down her head on her husband’s laps, she wore glasses and read a daily newspaper.

Kendrick watched the television, she can’t remember the last time they stayed together like this, they barely have time for themselves, always keeping a busy schedule.

She stood up and sat a few feet away from him because of his comment, they talked about their only child, Diana.

“She’s now my daughter, right?!”she rolled her eyes and went to block the television when he only grinned and kept watching.

“No, don’t do that, okay…fine… she’s our daughter”he laughed.

She laughed too and went to sit on his laps like a baby.

“What did you say she asked you to do, anyways?”Jasmine questioned placing her head on his shoulder.

“That’s a daughter and father top secret, please, can you stand up from my laps before you cripple me, you don’t know that you have added weight, madam”he replied.

“Am not going anywhere until you tell me what she asked of you,this is going to be your punishment”she said hiding her face so he wouldn’t see that she’s laughing.

“You sure know how to punish a man, until I throw you outside”he took the television remote and switched it off, darkness took over”hope you don’t run, Mrs Ken”he laughed loudly knowing what her reaction would be.

“Is that how you throw your wife outside,Mr Ken”she blurted shivering when his hand found its way through her night gown to rest on her stomach.
His phone ringed, an unwanted intruder.

“I think I have to take that call”

“I know”
He grinned and took the call .

“Tell me the news so far”Kendrick said to the phone and stood up when his wife made advances to see who the caller is.

“Sir, It’s Davidson enterprises, a wine glass producing company,best of it’s kind and for the last few days, the company is facing a lot of crisis that might lead to it’s downfall”A heavy voice explained bluntly from the other end.

“What did you find about what might have caused or lead to the latest situation of the company?”he questioned wetting his dry l-ips.

“Someone under their nose is playing funny tricks on them, to the best of my knowledge, I think the man has been an enemy that David failed to notice….

recently, the guy hired a young lady whom stole the company’s source of funds file and investment doc-ments, he murdered her when she was almost traced to him, and shot at David’s P.A, when she refused to accept his offer of standing against her boss in the board meeting which was later cancelled till further notice”The Man explained the information he found.

“Have you been able to track down his location?”

“Yes, he’s not as far as people think”

“Okay, thank you, you know what to do next”

“Yes sir”

“Good, you know how much I love good news, I don’t want anyone to get hurt, just capture them in the act and let the law take it’s course, and finally… nothing should happen to my daughter”he commanded with a cool bossy voice as he looked around to see if his wife is eavesdropping.

She’s not in sight, she must’ve gone to bed.

“Your wish is my command sir!”the voice saluted and the line went dead.
Kendrick cleared his throat and went to join his wife on bed.

* Late Next morning*

Tricia and Diana sat beside the pool with their legs outstretched in the water.

Tricia lifted her leg and placed it untop of Diana’s, she gave her a disdainful look and pushed her playfully into the water.

Three police men are hovering around the compound, David had left for the office earlier that morning after giving them a strict warning not to allow anyone of the women to go a mile away from the house.

They had played chess game, Maggie fell asleep and they decided to have a feel of sunlight,cool breeze and cold water, the combination is refreshing.

“Diana?”Tricia called from the other side of pool when she surfaced.

“What?”Diana returned splashing water on her face,the movements made her joints crack.

“Has Nadia called you this few days?”

“Mmm…No,why?”she queried hiding her face from direct sunlight,the sun shone brightly but not too hot to make a skin damp.

“Nothing much,am just wondering what’s going on with her”

“That’s normal, she’s our friend after all,I will call her when I get my phone from upstairs”Diana stepped into the water and took a long deep before surfacing again.

“Seems she doesn’t know the crisis our company is going through, though it’s scattered around the headline of every newspaper”Tricia shrugged.

“Weird, maybe she’s returned to Ghana”Diana said thoughtfully.

“Maybe,And Melvin?”Tricia asked rolling her eyes mischievously.

“Don’t tell me you have suddenly turned into a questionnaire in a twinkle of an eye, let me make something known to you, your mentioning their names is disturbing them,let the lovers be, amebo!”Diana said and went out of the water.

She dived in again and surprised Tricia when she took hold of her legs and drew her deep into the water.

She held her under water for some seconds before releasing her,they surfaced at the same time and fought to gasp in air.

Diana bursted into laughter as Tricia coughed weakly and ran out of the water.

“Wicked thing!”Tricia snorted lying down on the tiled areas around the pool”you will pay for this!”she pointed shaking fingers at her and bursted into an unexpected laughter that sent her head banging.

“That’s what you get when you don’t seem to mind your f-cking business!”Diana teased as she looked around the pool, remembering what she and David did just where she stood.

She touched the pool railings dreamily as if David is lying there tied to it like that very day.

She and David haven’t made love like before after his company’s troubles brought them together, it’s been just light k-sses, quick rom-nces and cuddles.

She missed their old love but she understands what’s keeping him busy and tired.

She allowed him be and made use of encouraging words and actions nothing about naughty things.

That has to wait,she trusts that she will hear from her father soon and everything will fall back in order.

Everything.will.be.fine.

She believed in her father’s power, in what he can do and what David will do.
But she counted on God.

“God works in mysterious ways”she whispered to her self.

“What did you say?”Tricia asked,she didn’t hear her clearly.

“Non of your business,can you please stop dipping your nose in what doesn’t concern you!!”

“It’s my business!”She laughed.

“Can you get off my back?!”

“Anyways,babe it remains a few days for this holiday to end”

“Thanks for reminding me,but I know already!”Diana retorted.

“You don’t seem to like the fact that it’s …..”

“You really know how to kill joy”

“Exactly what I was saying,and I know where that is coming from!”

“What do you mean by where it’s coming from?”

“I mean, you don’t even pray that this holiday ends because you want to remain here with David!”Tricia smiled batting her lashes.

“Is it that obvious?”Diana shrugged”maybe that’s what I want but, I pray it ends so that this problems will end with it”

Tricia laughed huskily.

“What’s funny?”Diana asked .

“Nothing, it’s just funny how this holiday started happily and it’s about ending……”

“Happily!”Diana cutted her off.

“You think so?”Tricia asked moving towards her friend.

“Yeah, I believe so… happy… happy holiday!!”she laughed and Tricia joined her.

They stepped into the water slowly and sinked in deep.

“What are my babies doing?!”Maggie hummed practically walking towards them.

They surfaced and came out of the water.
They all sat down on the pool side.

“Mom, the hem of your gown might get w-t, sure you wouldn’t like that!”Tricia warned her mother when she noticed she’s dipping her legs into the water.

“I….”

A noise from outside the gate followed by release of gunshots cutted Maggie off as two police officers signaled them to lay down, they scampered away gripped by fear and total confusion.

Diana couldn’t say she recognized anything that happened in one split second as Maggie fell right in front of her, blood oozed out of her nose.

Diana shrieked as she bumped on Maggie’s body and fell face down, it’s all in a blurring vision that she saw what happened next…….
