Chapter 29: POISONED.

I sat on my bed, touching the hand which I had used to hold the cup. I still can’t believe what just happened few minutes ago.

I exhaled.

But there’s just one thing about that cup, some one tampered it and whosoever that used it, has no idea of what he or she must have taken.

You can guess it right… Some one poisoned the cup. I don’t how but I saw it.

I won’t let this bother me, and besides that’s some thing probably between the suspect and the victim. I have nothing to do with it.

And whoever dies, it’s definitely not my business either.

I laid down on my bed as I was feeling a bit sleepy. Maybe I’ll have to tell Kaden about what happened. But the problem is, will he believe me?

He might think I had gone nuts or over slept to see some weird dreams thinking they are real.

Few hours after she had slept off, the window banged to blow, opening her window open. The breeze blew straight directly to Illiana’s body.

Immediately her eyes jerked open, sitting up, she got out of the bed.

Unconsciously, she left her room, heading down to double stair case. She made a left turn which led to the kitchen.

The door was locked but when she held the knob, it opened. She walked to where Hilda had kept the cup and jar of wine.

She touched the cup, her eyes opened w¡der. She saw a young lady take the cup from the kitchen, she was in a lemon green gown.

She was the maid assigned to get the wine. She took a paper from the left side of her br-ast, unfolding it gently so as to avoid Mrs Green from noticing.

She rubbed the drug at the tip of the cup, then on the jar too. She hide the drug back in its place, pretending not to have done some thing sinful.

She took the tray, leaving the kitchen with the innocent face she has, that one could hærdly believe she actually did committed a crime.

She went into the meeting hall of alpha Kaden and his council. The cup was meant for one of the councils. Some one held her hand, whispering words into her ears before she set to the victim.

” No… No… Don’t drink it. ” Illiana shouted, but no one noticed her presence, not to talk of hearing her voice.

The maid poured some wine into the golden cup, standing beside him to see that he had drank the wine. And when he did so, he requested for another cup of wine.

She poured some more for him to drink, and when he saw that he still wasn’t satisfied, he took the jar from her, dismissing her away.

She looked at the man who had whispered to her, they both nodded their head. She left the hall.

Illiana waited for some thing alarming to begin. Maybe, a dream or any thing reacting to show in him but, no. He drank like he hadn’t taken any poison.

Or… Was it actually a poison?

When the ceremony was over, they had all gone to their respective rooms. She followed behind him to his room.

As soon as he stepped in, he started vomiting uncontrollably. Bloods and digested food stained the ground.

” What the f*ck is happening to me? ” He rushed to the toilet, spitting into the sink.

He started washing his mouth, thinking it was over. But as he returned back to his room, it started again. But this time, worster than before.

He fell to the ground, holding his stomach tight. Ce started coughing out a huge amount of blood. ” What… What is…” He passed out.

” The wolf packs might be the safest place but, it can also be the deadliest home to stay. ” Said a voice like a whisper in her ear.

Illiana gasped back to reality, quickly taking her hands off the cup. She stared around her environment, how did she get here? She thought.

She quickly left the kitchen before any one could see her, returning back to her room. From the door, she looked at Crystal still asleep.

” What happened? ” She asked herself again. ” What’s happening to me? ” But there was no one to give an answer to her question.

She laid on her bed, consciously checking on herself. And when she saw she was still on her bed, she dozed off.

The next day started with a sad news, the entire castle were alerted by the death of one of the chiefs. The news didn’t sound new to Illiana, and she just realized what she had seen last night wasn’t just a dream…

Rather, it was reality…

A part of her wants to tell Kaden about what she had seen and how it all happened, another part of her wants her to keep it to herself.

Kaden will surely need a proof if she has to inform him and she isn’t familiar to any of the suspects. She has never seen the faces before, and that’s one major thing Kaden will ask for.

Their identity.

” What happened to him? ” Kaden asked the doctor.

” He was poisoned. Some one must have poisoned him during the ceremony. ” Replied the doctor.

” But every one drank from the same wine, why is he only the one found dead? ” He asked again.

” He must have been poisoned from his cup. I need to see the cup he had used to drink from last night. ” He requested.

Kaden ordered some one to get the cup for the doctor. ” There’s a suspect in the building.” He announced. ” I need a thorough search in the house, any one with a strange identity should be reported immediately! ”

All the guards left for the supervision. The maid who Kaden had sent a while ago to get the cup has returned. She gave the golden 8to the doctor who supervised it with his microscope.

He found some little particles of the remaining poison. He picked it out with a small spoon, testing it in his test tube.

” What did you see? ” Kaden asked, impatient.

” It’s a poison gotten from garlic root. The chemical is prepared for killing rats and insects, but some sweet scents were added to it to confuse any one who is poisoned with it.

Sir Gof was deceived by the scent and probably drank a lot from the wine jar. Who ever did this is still within the castle. ” He stated.

” But the question is, why would some one desperately want Sir Gof dead? ”

That was an answer Kaden is yet to find out. Or is this some how the beginning of the war?

Will the Vergence Pack in any way be behind this? What is actually going on?

” Vergence… ” He cursed.

(In Illiana’s Room …)

” Hey, Miss. ” Hilda called, dropping the food in the table.

Illiana was unconscious of Hilda’s entrance, she was lost to her thoughts. Hearing the death if Sir Gof didn’t that much surprised her like the others were, but on the other hand it really did surprise her.

How she got to know about his death before any one else baffled her. How she got to see how it all happened was some thing she still couldn’t find the answer to.

Why would some one wants him dead? And she was almost thinking the pack was the safest place… She’s beginning to doubt herself.

Talking about the voice, who must have said those words? It didn’t sound familiar to her but, those words were beginning to sound true to her.

If surely sir Gof was killed by poison, then it actually means two things. One, some one is actually envies him or…

Second, the war Evelyn talked about was about to happen.

” Miss?! ” Hilda tapped her. She flinched, p-nting heavily. ” Are you alright? ” She asked.

” Yeah, of course, I am. ”

” You don’t look okay to me. I’ve been calling you for almost two minutes now but you didn’t answer me. ” She said, sounding worried.

” I’m okay, I was just… I was just wondering why some one would want Sir Gof dead. ”

” Every one envy’s the other. It’s not some thing new. It’s all over the world, both humans, lucan’s, werewolves, demons… It’s all for one purpose. ”

” What purpose? ” Illiana questioned.

” The quest for power. ” She said. ” Every one wishes to be Alpha Kaden’s most trusted. And as you can see, Sir Gof was Alpha Kaden’s second in command. Some one wants to take that position, and it’s definitely this some one who is responsible for Sir Gof’s death. ”

” Who could it be? ”

” That’s a question we’re yet to find out. ”

Laura entered, ” Morning, Ana. ” she greeted.

” Morning, Laura, how was your night? ” Illiana greeted back.

” It was fine and yours? ” She asked back. ” Wow, your room looks so beautiful. ” She complimented, admiring every where. ” Kaden really spent a lot to get this all looking great. ”

Ana blushed. ” Thanks. ”

” I was thinking if you’d mind me showing you to my lab? ”

” You’ve got a lab here? ”

” Not really my lab tho, but I always spend some time there with doctor Evans. ”

” Wow, I’d love to see it. I only saw a lab once, but that was in college. ”

” Just what I wanted to hear. Come on, let’s go. ” She pulled her by the hand as she took her to doctor’s lab.

” Hey, doctor Evans. ” They both said as they walked in.

” My ladies. ” He bowed in courtesy. ” What a surprise visit, I’d say. Never expected neither of you. What brings you two here if I may ask? ”

” I just want to show Ana around. She loves the lab, so I want to show her one. ”

” Your free to have a look around. But… try not to fall any thing. ” He warned. ” They’re all fragile. ”

” We won’t. ” Laura nodded.

” What are you mixing? ” I asked, checking on what he was doing.

” I’m testing on some chemical.” He answered.

” What chemicals? ” I asked again.

” I’m checking if this is the same mixtures they had used to poison sir Gof. ”

” Speaking of Sir Gof, do you think some one really poisoned him? ” Laura asked, walking around the table.

” Yes. ”

Laura stopped, staring at me. ” I doubt. Maybe he died a natural death who knows. No one knows when death calls I’d say, he died a painful death. ”

” He was poisoned. ” He stated. ” I studied the cup he had drank from last night, I saw this at the tip of the cup. ” He showed us a black particle he had kept in a transparent cup.

” Sir Gof was poisoned, and I think it’s some one among us. There’s some one who envies him, well this has been common since the park was created.

Luckily, such thing never existed in Alpha Kaden’s father’s reign but unfortunately, it had to exist in The Master’s time.

Sir Gof has been a trust worthy servant, he got promoted after he lead the armies during the time the chief commander fell ill. He took authority and did what The Master least expect.

But at first, Sir Gof wasn’t recognized among all the councils. So his sudden promotion baffled every one and I’ll admit, it did surprised me too. ”

” Why would some one be so jealous and envious to his fellow human? Isn’t it unfair to kill an innocent person? ”

” Miss, we’ve all thought about this so many times. No one believes in his conscience any more, no one cares of the implications or consequences, every one does every thing their own way. ”

” Mmm… ” Laura hummed.

” Do you think whoever did this is still around? ”

” Nah, I doubt. Alpha Kaden has ordered for a search around, they won’t stay to avoid being caught. ”

There was a flower behind him, red in colour. I picked it up, studying it. ” What’s this? ” I asked.

” It’s pokeweed. ” He answered, minding what he was doing.

” What’s a pokeweed? ” I asked.

” It’s a scenting grass, used for camouflaging. As you can see the murderer had used it to cover up the original scent of the poison. Check this out. ” He gave me the mixtures to smell.

” Gross, what a smell. ” I covered my nose.

” And check this. ” He gave me the pokeweed, I smelled it and honestly, I loved the scent.

” Smells nice. That means, they had used it to deceive Sir Gof, no wonder why he couldn’t stop drinking the wine. ”

” How do you know that? ” They both asked me.

I was shocked as the word came out of my mouth, Aish… I was so fast at talking. ” I… I over heard you tell Kaden this morning. ”

” Oh, I must have forgotten. ”

Phew… That was close.

I saw the powdered weed, it was beside the flower. As soon as I touched it, my eyes opened wide. I saw as it happened, the one who had picked the pokeweed.

The figure was on a black coat so I wasn’t able to see who it was. I saw as he picked the flower, putting it into a small bag.

Even as he took it to his home, I also saw as he prepared the poison. I saw it, I saw every thing.. But, I couldn’t see who it was.

Damn! It would be a great news if I had seen the figure. Every actions needs a proof, I can’t tell anyone without a clear proof.

I woke up to see myself laying on the floor. Sitting up, I gro-ned painfully. My head hurts so much. ” Ahhh,,,” I gro-ned again. ” What happened?”

” You fell and fainted. ” Laura answered, helping me to stand to my feet. I almost lost my balance but she held me tight. ” Be careful. ”

” Thanks. ”

” Are you sure you can stand? ” He asked, looking worried.

” Yeah, I’m fine. ”

” I’ve found it,” he said excited.

” Found what? ” I asked.

” The poison. I need to get to The Master on time. ” He parked every thing into his bag, ” Just in case you are about to leave, don’t forget to lock the door. ”

We nodded our head.

Laura returned her gaze to me. The look in her eyes showed she wasn’t convinced on how I waved the discussion. ” Illiana, are you sure you’re alright? ”

” Of course, I am. Laura, don’t be worried, I am fine. ”

” You know I have to, what happened few minutes ago is so concerning. But don’t worry, I understand. Let’s take you to your room. ”

She held my hand as we left the room to my own room. I wish I can see Evelyn, she’s the only one who can tell me what I saw.

And it’s getting much complicated than it should be, I don’t know who those guys are and I can’t even identify any of their faces. Who knows if they are still around the castle?

They’ll probably be gone by now. Is there any need talking? I’ll just have to keep quiet and pretend like I know nothing about what is going on, until Evelyn gives me a good explanation to what is going on with me.

I went to Kaden’s room, he was laying on his bed walked in. His body faced up, he looked in thoughts. I understand how he feels right now, he’s doing what ever it takes to protect his packs.

This like this always happens when every where seems peaceful. Some people just don’t like it when they see peace around.

” Hey. ” I said, drawing his attention.

He moved his face at me, ” Hey, ”

I went close to his bed, sitting beside him. ” Have you seen the suspect? ”

” Not yet, ” he sat up. ” He must have gone after Sir Gof died. I can’t believe I didn’t see this coming. ”

” It’s not your fault, Ka, you don’t have to blame yourself for this. ”

” I have to, Ana. God is some one so important to me, he means a lot to both me and the pack. You don’t know how it feels to lose an army. ”

I touched his hand, ” Of course, I do. It hurts a lot. What if this has some thing to do with the Vergence Pack? Don’t you think this might be part of a way they want to get to us. Starting from you commander? ”

” Same as I thought. But we can’t just jump into conclusion because of the relationsh¡p we share. I need to investigate on this case and get to the bottom of it first. ”

” Kaden, don’t over pressure yourself for this. You need to get some rest first, and a little time to think. ”

He sighed. ” Yeah, you’re right. I can’t remember the last time I ever had a good nap. ”

” I’ll check on you when you wake up. ”

He held my hand. ” No, stay with me. ”

” Okay, I will. ”
