AMAYA’S DESTINY
(NIGHT RAIN)
EPISODE 9 & 10
WRITTEN BY AUTHOR NATH
Nothing is hidden under the sun. One day breeze will escalate and the buttocks of a fowl will be blown open for those who have eyes to see what lies in it. Jimmy knows about it, but when would that happen? When will Rachael realize that she’s a hazardous specimen under a watchful study, waiting to explode one day by meeting her destiny. Anyone who dares to discover it or stop it dies like Mr Kim. Tremendously, someone somewhere wanted Jimmy and Mr Kim to know the mystery behind the life of Rachael then stop it. Another unseen being doesn’t want anybody to know about it. Now, you can substantiate the frightening vividness of Mr Kim’s death, critically explained by Jimmy on Saturday: “Sir, I have more Ideas; Kris’ encounter is totally different from ours. He didn’t see or hear anything like yoke or yolk while we do. So I think, the person or god showing us this sign is different from the shadow Kris talked about…”
Nevertheless, Everything was happening so fast in the city, though in a calmed mannarism, at Ghene High School precisely, but only a few knew about it especially Jimmy. The ambulance had sped off from the school environment, leaving the students in a great shock and bitter tears. The pricipal had no choice but to dismiss the school that Monday morning for the mourning of their disciplinary master. As students headed home, Jimmy cornered Kris and Festus in an empty classroom like a kidnapper under cover. They could see mark of tears on his face and his eyes red due to endless cry.
“Jimmy, what’s the problem?” Kris asked him, seeing the force he used to take them into the empty classroom.
“Everything is the problem, Kris! I’m about to get mad! Something is happening both spiritually and physically, even under the earthcrust! You should be aware of it!” his voice echoed in the classroom.
“I dont know anything, Jimmy. And i dont want to know!”
“Don’t be a coward, Kris! Rachael is directly or indirectly behind the death of Mr Kim!”
“Jesus!” Festus stepped backward, listening how Jimmy backup his an-lysis using his encounter with the two images he saw on the wall and his plan with Mr Kim before his death. He never hesitated to tell them why Rachael’s parents came to their shops too. “No doubt the quest to find out the truth about Rachael killed Mr Kim.” he concluded.
Kris exhaled. “I don’t want to involve myself in this. And you shouldn’t too coz it’s bigger than us! Let’s pretend like nothing happened and stay a heck away from Rachael.” he pointed at him.
“That isn’t a good idea” Festus objected. “If the parents don’t want to tell Rachael who she Is, why don’t we tell her?”
Kris turned to his friend. “Tell her what? That she’s the cause of Mr Kim’s death? Or her name is Amaya? How will you back it up? What do you really think you know about Rachael?”
“Who wants to know me?” A voice came from the door of the classroom. All turned to see Rachael, walking in with Antonia. All began to look at one another until Antonia broke the silence saying, “Why are you people conspiring against my friend?”
“Nobody is doing that here.” Festus replied.
“Then what do you want to know about Rachael coz Kris faced you when he made his last statement?”
Meanwhile, Rachael ignored Jimmy, walked closer to Kris like a sed-ctive commercial s€× worker. “What’s going on, Kris?” she asked calmly.
“Nothing, Rachael.” he responded.
“I’m officially inviting you to my birthday. It’s actually on the weekend before our exam. I’ll be expecting you.” she turned, leaving with her friend. Just at the door, Jimmy called her, “Rachael..”
“What?” she turned rudely, even her voice had the same tone with her charisma.
Jimmy became speechless as all waited in the silence until the two girls finally left. Yet, he couldn’t tell her what’s on ground. He didn’t even know where to start.

In the evening, a knock came from Jimmy’s exterior door of their house. He was the only one at home, wanting to clear his head, at least succ-m to Kris’ advise not to involve himself the more on the matter. But the person knocking at the door didn’t want him to. So the young boy opened the door to see a lady standing. She looks like the people he can call ‘aunty’ so he greeted her.
“Are you Jimmy Okenagba?”
“Yes. Any problem?”
“I work in Ghene Mercy hospital. Before Mr Kim gave up the ghost, he said I should give you this.” the lady handed a recording device to him then left after being appreciated.
Knowing the type of situation they were into, Mr Kim left to the museum with the recording device to doc-ment the outcome in case anything happen to him which, of course happened. Jimmy entered his room, locked the door then played the device that broadcasted with a female voice, “The image that looks like an egg is a passage to the world of the Talibans which can only be entered by oxen with a yoke. The Talibans were known to be spiritually powerful immortals but was destroyed. Till date, humans still believe they are descendant of Talibans among us..” The voice stopped for a moment then played again. This time with Mr Kim’s voice. “Master Okenagba, it’s obvious Amaya is a descendant of the Talibans whose destiny or mission remain unknown among us the humans…” a noisy sound like an accident ended the broadcast.
Jimmy refused to sit down after listening to it. “What is Amaya’s destiny? Where is this world they talk about? Who has been showing us these signs? Who killed Mr Kim? What exactly do they want?!” Jimmy’s head wanted to burst in thought…..

EPISODE 10

WEEKS LATER
Everybody remained calmed as nothing was happening, even Jimmy who waited for the right time to approach Mr and Mrs Ojile. He had been avoiding Rachael and others, observing them, eventhough none cared about his presence.
It was a sartuday evening, the weekend before Ghene High School examination kicks off. Rachael could be seen walking on their street. Suddenly, she heard a voice that called, “Amaya!”
She topped, remembering the mystical nomenclature as the same name that slipped from Jimmy’s tongue. So, she swiftly turned to the source of the sound wave thereby wh¡pping her face with her hair which she simultaneously slid aside to have a clearer view. Having seen the source of the sound wave, but no one, she increased her pace that had her butt shaking like the movement of a pendulum bob regardless of how tight her jean trouser held them together like a covalent bond.😁.
The time of the day was 7:50pm when Rachael opened the door of their house to see everywhere dark and quiet. That got her worried and, at the same time, scared. Reasonably, her hand blindly pave in the air to the wall, locating a switch which she put on then everywhere illuminated greatly with excited thunderous voices that said, “Happy birthday!!!!”
“Oh my God!” Rachael nearly fainted in terror that increased her heartbeat and sympathetic nervous system. Sighting her parents, her friend, Antonia, and other lovely neighbours, she exhaled with a hand on her chest to reduce the heartbeat. She hurried to hug each of them happily after seeing how amazingly beautiful the room was decorated with red balloons. A cake that has her name encrypted on it rested on the centre table. It was her 17th birthday.
“Mrs James,” Rachael called and hugged an average woman, their next door neighbour.
“Happy birthday my dear” she patted her back before they disengaged.
“I heard a voice from your window on my way in”
“A voice?” the woman thought for a while. “I doubt coz no one is at home my dear.”
“But.. but..” bizarre, she stammered and suddenly camouflaged her doubt with a smile not to ruin the day. “Never mind, Mrs James” she met Antonia, her best friend whom she hugged only to hear her whispering into her ears like a sarcastic, intensive and secretive rumour monger, “You’re now an adult, baby girl”
Rachael returned not only a corrupt smile but also a friendly punch on her back. “I actually don’t know what you mean by that, Antonia” she turned to her parents who demanded the attention of everyone. Joyfully, she watched the only parents she had, pour out their overwhelming love for her verbally. The nature in which she busted into the family tree has been a thing of mystery and, of course, miracle to some people like her parents whose Faith is rooted in Christianity.
“…love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs..”
“Love is not happy with evil but happy with the truth. 1 Corinthians thirteen, verse four to six” Rachael took the words from her father, Mr Ojile, surprisingly.
“And that is what we feel for you my dear. Happy birthday once again” Mrs Ojile, the mother, concluded with an angelic voice. Just after the heart touching speech, everybody began to clap. Rachael sadly looked around, hoping to see Kris but he never came.
“Amaya” the weird voice came again from behind. Rachael turned to see Antonia clapping and smiling. “What, Antonia?” she asked friendly.
Confused, Antonia spread her hands. “What what?”
“You called me Amaya.”
“No, I didn’t. Why should I call you that?”
They stared, bemused with a trace of happiness showing all over Antonia’s face. Hilariously, she said, “You’re hallucinating my dear. The only thing calling you now is adulthood” She saw Rachael smiling until she began to giggle.
8:30pm
Not minding the invisible being that had Rachael’s other name calling, the young girl hurriedly grabbed a sweater and a night wear from her wardrobe then surged to leave her room. Strangely, she stopped at the door, gazed around the feminine room like a lion monitoring its prey. “The window” she murmured as she began to shut them and the curtains afterwards. For the second time, another survey was carried out from the door before she put off the light. The room became as dark as her complexion. Rachael was in a hurry to meet her friend coz both planned to have a sleepover at Antonia’s residence. Just at the living room, before they left, Mr Ojile called on her.
“Rachael, you girls should take my car but make sure you bring it back before 8:00am tomorrow morning because I’ll be going to church with it” he jingled the car key before her.
Excitedly, she grabbed the key. “Thanks, Dad” she hugged him while the mother smiled from behind.
“Drive safe” she said.
“Don’t worry, I will be driving” Antonia assured before both left the house like passengers in a hurry to catch a flight.
:
:
Antonia’s father is a family friend to Rachael’s family. He welcomed the girls when they arrived and, of course, wished Rachael well for the birthday. “Sorry, I couldn’t make it” he had added.
“No problem, Mr. Frank” Rachael replied.
Antonia handed a cake to the father saying, “This is your dinner, Daddy. Rachael and I are having a sleepover tonight” they rushed upstairs into her room thereby leaving the old man speechless and smiling. He picked up his ringing phone to see Mr Ojile as the caller.
“Hello, they’ve arrived. Unfortunately I’m having a cake as my dinner tonight” he said on the phone followed by an amusing laughter..
Rachael jumped on Antonia’s bed. She wore a black tight gown, exposing every possible shape on her body. She suddenly walked to a television-stand while Antonia undress at a corner. She brought out a DVD plate and said, “We should be watching a movie like this one” she raised it up.
Antonia turned. “Spartacus? No way! We ain’t watching that” she objected.
“Why not?”
“It has so many er*t*c scenes” Antonia pulled her b-ra, walked to the wardrobe to arrange a few clothes.
Rachael smiled. “I guess I’ve come of age to watch er*t*c movies. In fact, let’s watch p-rn” she suggested to Antonia’s amazement who suddenly turned to her in a way both stared at each other.
“Rachael, the last time i checked you were quoting a bible”
“Antonia, the last time i checked, you welcomed me into an adulthood. Also, 1 Corinthians 13:11 says, ‘When i was a child, my speech, my feelings, and thinking were all those of a child: now that I’m an adult I have no more use for childish ways””
Antonia shook her head cautiously and said, “You’re misunderstanding the bible, Rachael.” She tied a towel, stunned, walked towards the bathroom but turned with a gaze. “Why on earth should we watch p-rn?” she asked.
Rachael giggled. “To learn”
“Learn What? I have nothing to learn from p-rnography”
“Maybe that’s because you’ve done it but I have not”
Both remained quiet, caught up with a strange silence and stare. Rachael sat down on the edge of the bed. Worried, Antonia returned, sat beside her properly like a woman.
“Listen, Rachael” she began calmly. “That I’ve done it doesn’t mean that I’m proud of it. You may be ready to explore s€×ually, but whom you must lose your V-rginity to matters a lot to avoid regret.” She paused then began again obnoxiously. “I even thought you’ve done it”
Rachael shook her head. “That’s the point!” She stood up bitterly. “Kris has disappointed me. I’ve tried to make out with him but he has been avoiding me as if I’m being watched by some spirit” she complained.
“That must be a holy spirit” Antiona stood up, smiling.
“It’s not funny. That’s why I planned to sleep at Jimmy’s place tonight”
“What?” Antonia exclaimed. “Jimmy? Like tonight? I thought you hate him. I thought we’re having a sleepover, Rachael!”
“Sorry I didn’t tell you. I made that up so that my parents wouldn’t know my way about” She glanced at her wristwatch. “I need to go now. Please, don’t stop me, Antonia” she pleaded, while the friend became speechless.
“Why are you so in a hurry to have s€×, Rachael? Do you think is a good thing? What is going on?”
“Antonia..” Rachael exhaled sadly. “I wish I know what’s going on. Is not as if I’m in a hurry to have a man in between my legs. A lot has been going on lately in my life. I really want to figure it out and i think Jimmy has an answer to that.” She turned her back on her friend in a way the window became the next viewing object. “I know this may sound crazy but when it comes to my s€×ual life, I feel like there is someone watching me. Someone who doesn’t want me to have men in my life.”
“Rachael, you should be happy. That’s the holy spirit preventing you!!” Antonia took a step forward.
“You don’t get it, do you?” She turned angrily. “Why me? Why didn’t the holy spirit prevent you too?! Okay, how do you explain the strange voices?”
“What voices”
“I hear someone call me ‘Amaya’ only to discover nobody does! And this same name has come from late Mr Kim and Jimmy.” Rachael calmed not only herself but also her voice, breathing hastily. “Or is it the holy spirit that is calling me too?”
Antonia, once again became dumb.
“I’m sorry, Antonia, I’ll see you tomorrow morning. Though i wish your father doesn’t notice my absence because he won’t hesitate to tell my parents.” Rachael clutched the door knob.
“Wait” Antonia found her voice. “Let me show you another way out so that my father won’t see you” She glanced at a wall clock; 9:30pm. Both stared at each other. “Rachael, remember we’re the only children of our parents. Please, be careful. Also, always remember I love you like a sister” Antonia broke the silence before they hugged..
:
:
She stepped out from a cab, briskly walking on a gravel to a house opposite her. Sooner did wind escalate which indicated that there might be night rain, waving her hair haphazardly. Undaunted, she soldiered on, hoping that her footsteps did not sound as crunchingly loud to any person in,side as they do to her own ears. Her knocking echoed heavily with a dull and hallow sound. Three times she bruised her knuckles against the heavy wood, before finally conceding that no one was coming to answer the door. Just before she reached her bag to grab her phone, the door opened by Jimmy who became astonished to see her. Was he dreaming? No.
“Rachael?”
“Hi, Jimmy”
Both stared at each other. Rachael was about to discover who she was. Luckily for both of them, Mrs Okenagba travelled…..
