I am praying but then I feel as if someone is standing behind me. I feel like I am not alone in the room. I slowly open my eyes and hesitate to look back. When I finally do, I just feel a little bit of coldness in the room and there is no one else in the room. I get up and walk over to the door. I close it and went to sleep.

I had the knife in my hand but I just couldn’t do it. If I want this woman dead then I might as well try something else, I don’t want to be a suspect in her death. I know it won’t be that easy for me to kill her but it’s worth the try. I walk back to the kitchen and put back the knife in the drawer. I stand in the kitchen for a while thinking of a way to finally get rid of that woman. I know Tiffany is the only person that can help me out right now. To think that Jamal wants her to stay with us is just unbelievable. How am I supposed to breathe the same air with her? How am I supposed to do whatever I want in my own home? Walking around unclad in my house and not giving a damn about anyone because it’s just me and my husband? I had so many things stressing me that it was just hærd for me to get any eye shut.

I woke up early the next following day; I didn’t want to see that woman or my husband. I took a bath and left the house at around 6am. I wanted to pass by Tiffany’s house telling her about what happened last night. You know I still can’t believe that her outfit made those women at the restaurant be crazy over it. I didn’t see anything special about it. I just hate my mother-in law very much. It’s sooner than later that she is going to start interfering in our love life. She is going to turn her son against me. What if she had actually faked the illness? And that excuse she made last night about wanting to leave, we both know she already knew that her son was going to stop her from leaving. This is what mum and Tiffany told me after I got married to Jamal,

‘You are going to have issues with his mom. She will start to have temper tantrums, make extremely passive-aggressive jabs, and even attempt in vain to set up your husband with someone that she loves.’

I had to be careful with her, I had to get rid of her before she even makes a move on me and I knew she was about to strike but I was going to be ready for her. I got at her house and parked my car just outside. The gateman must have heard car sounds because he had already opened the gate for me but I told him that I wasn’t driving in. We knew each other, well it’s not like this was my first time visiting Tiffany. I often went over at her house and sometimes for a sleep over as well only when hubby is out on a business trip. I walked to the door and knocked several times before she finally opened the door for me.

‘Hie,’ she greeted with a smile on her face and k-ssed me on the cheek.

‘Hey stranger,’ I responded walking in,side her house, ‘the house looks clean. Why are you up so early?’ I ask.

‘Well I will be travelling to Dubai with bae.’

‘Serious?’

‘Yes,’ she said blushing.

‘Oh my God!’ I exclaim hands on my mouth, ‘is that a…’

‘Yes, he asked me to marry him,’ we scre-m together and I am so happy for her.

‘Finally Bradley did it. I am happy for you babe.’

‘Thank you love. I was meaning to call you but I was just so over the moon that I forgot to dial your number. Plus we had gone at his parents’ house for a dinner when he asked me to marry him and I said yes.’

I was so happy for her that for a minute I forgot why I had gone over at her house. Well I wasn’t going to talk about my problems when we were in the middle of a celebration. Tiffany deserves the happiness, they had been through a lot together with Bradley and I was happy they were finally tying the knot. That means I will be attending a wedding very soon and that of my best friend. We talked for a while and she was telling me how wonderful his fiancée’s relatives are including his parents. Well she was blessed to have a mother-in law who was classy and well-known as well unlike; I don’t want to talk about her right now.

‘So tell me why you are at my house so early? Aren’t you supposed to be in bed with hubby?’ she asks.

‘Well I have so many things to tell you,’ I clear my throat.

‘It sounds bad,’ she said with a worried look on her face.

‘It is bad.’

I started telling her about the day my mother-in law moved in with us, when she cleaned the house, cooked for us and when we went out for dinner. I didn’t leave any details, I told her everything and she just listened attentively.

‘So what do you want to do?’ she asked after I was done telling her everything.

‘That’s why I am here Tiffany, I need your help.’

‘How best can I help you?’

‘Give me any suggestions, I mean you told me that this woman will come between me and my husband.’

‘Yes, I did but I think you want to kill her.’

You know I don’t understand Tiffany. I remember when she once told me that if my mother-in law gives me any problems, the best thing for me is to kill her but now she acting as if she is no longer on my side.

‘I thought you were taking my side. Why do you seem lost with what I have told you,’ I said getting impatient with her.

‘Eeeh there is no need of you to shout Emily. I am on your side here. You trying to stab on your mother-in law when is praying is not a very good idea. Let her die very slowly. Since the doctor found nothing wrong with her, we will create a sickness.’

I smiled,

‘Tell me about it.’

‘Do you still remember Pravan?’

‘That Indian doctor friend of yours?’

‘Yes, you know he can find us something that you can put in,side her food and you just let the poison kill her,’ she smiled.

I hadn’t thought about that brilliant idea, I knew Tiffany would come up with something and here she just proven me correct. That witch, her days were numbered. Judge me all you can but I am still going to get rid of her. I thanked Tiffany for being such a good friend to me, it meant a lot to me, her helping out and all. I left her house and went to my workplace. You know I had to report for work right. It was already at around 9am when I got there.

‘Madam,’ my receptionist called out my name and I turned back to look at her.

‘Yes.’

‘There is someone waiting for you in your office,’ she said to me.

‘You let someone in my office without my permission?’

I don’t know what was wrong with these people. She just let someone in my office without my permission.

‘She claimed to be your mother-in law.’

‘My what?’

‘Yo…’

‘Save it.’

I angrily marched to my office and there she was sitting on my couch. She got up immediately she saw me enter.

‘Em..’

‘What do you want?’ I angrily ask her.

No, she was getting on my nerves right now. Who invited her over? What gives her the right to just come to my office without informing me first?

‘I brought you some food,’ she said grabbing the plastic bag which was on the table.

I took the plastic from her and she had used my lunch box to pack the poison she had cooked for me. I took the food and walked to the bin. I threw everything in,side the bin.

‘Emily,’ she called out.

‘So you think I was going to eat this food you brought for me? I am not stupid or am I dull. I know what you are trying to do; you are trying to kill me. Let me tell you something, no matter how much you try to be nice to me, I won’t buy your act. We both know that this is all pretenses, you don’t like me and you are being nice until you have decided to show me your true colors.’

‘Emily that’s not it. I had brought you something to eat because you left home early. How can I poison what I would have cooked and give my son as well the same food? I will never do that to you Emily and me showing you my love, it isn’t pretense at all. I am sorry for just coming over at your office without telling you. I was worried about you and I just wanted to check up on you. You are my daughter after all.’

‘You are not my mother!’ I shouted almost throwing the lunch box at her, ‘you will never be my mother or my mother-in law. I hate you and I will never accept you as my mother-in law.’

‘Emily, why do you hate me that much?’

‘You want to know why? I hate you because you are just being too perfect; your son compliments what you do more than he does to me. I hate you because my husband isn’t giving me attention right now because of you. I don’t know why, I honestly don’t know why he has to keep on taking care of you when you are capable of taking care of yourself. Have you seen my mother lately at my house? No because she is busy doing something for herself. Mother just leave my house. I know Jamal wants you to stay but I want you to leave. I don’t like having you around at my house, the mere sight of you just makes me want to puke.’

‘Emily,’ she said with tears streaming down on her cheeks.

‘Oh please enough with the act and the crocodile tears. Jamal is not here after all, it’s just me and you. Let it be the last time that you come to my office,’ I said and intentionally bumped into her while walking to my chair.

I heard her sniff as I sat down.

‘Aren’t you leaving?’ I ask her.

She takes her things and walk out of my office. To hell with her.
