Cayn got to the entrance and heard an engine start, he knew it was Sky, she was gone. As he walked to Dr. Kunda’s office, he kept thinking if what he did to her was rational. He justified his actions by convincing himself that he felt betrayed by someone he trusted with all his life. He reached the office and knocked. Since Dr. Kunda was not around, he had left one of his trusted, qualified and experienced doctors to handle Cayn’s mother. He found the doctor and from what he expected, he was surprised. He expected someone old but this one was one young lady. She smiled at him pointing him to a chair. After comfortably sitting down, he greeted her.

“I am Dr. Ngoma,” she said flashing her perfect white teeth.

Cayn admired her. She seemed confident and knew what she was doing. Mr. Kunda was right when he said, his staff would take care of his mother. “I am Cayn Simfukwe.”

“I know, i have been expecting you, the lady who brought your mother told me you were coming,” she smiled. “She seems to get along with her, is she your wife?”

Cayn felt a stung in his chest. “No she’s just a colleague,” he cleared his throat.

“I see, back to our matters, Dr. Kunda told me about your mother, he left a file for me which i studied. All i needed was to see her and diagnose her. I checked her and from the symptoms and signs you told Dr. Kunda and from what i have observed after a brief treatment, she shows signs of Alzheimer disease.”

“What’s that?” he asked.

“Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions,” she paused. “At first, someone with this disease may notice mild confusion and difficulty remembering.”

Cayn remembered what the old lady from eleven years ago at the prison told him about how Kayila started changing. “How serious is this disease doctor?”

“Pretty serious, Eventually, people with the disease may even forget important people in their lives and undergo dramatic personality changes.”

Kayila was already at this stage and Cayn knew. “So you mean to say she’ll never remember me?”

“I’m afraid not but you can try to make new memories with her.”

“So there is no cure?”

“No.”

Cayn wasn’t convinced. That could not be the end for his mother. There was no way he could just let her live her life like that, he thought carefully looking at the young doctor.

“We need to keep her for some days and put her under medication. We at least need to stabilize her. She looks like she has gone through a life changing ordeal.”

“That’s not a problem, but are you really sure there are no alternatives doctor?”

She laughed and looked at him in the eyes. “I know this might be hærd to believe but that’s the truth. There is nothing that we can do to restore her memories.”

“That’s not my concern, my concern is making her better again.”

“We can make her better by creating a safe and supportive environment. Her living situation has to be adapted to her needs. This is an important aspect of any treatment plan. For someone like her, establishing and strengthening routine habits and minimizing memory-demanding tasks can make life much easier. There is so much we can do for her, you just need to be up for the task.”

“That’s not a problem,” he said before a knock interrupted him.

“Sorry about that, that must be one of the staff. Enter!” the young doctor shouted. The door opened. “Hi Nancy,” she said. “What brings you here?”

“Sorry to interrupt you Tasha.”

Cayn could swear that his heart stopped beating for a second. Apart from him mentioning the name Tasha in his prayers, he had never heard it anywhere. Hearing it now coming out of someone’s mouth shook him to the core. He couldn’t get his eyes away from the young doctor but then again, it’s just a name, he told himself calming his nerves.

“I thought you were alone,” Nancy said looking at Cayn. “Good afternoon sir.”

“Afternoon,” Cayn said.

“There is a patient requesting for you on the first floor Tasha.”

“That must be Janet, she always wants me to take care of her, old women,” she laughed. “I will be downstairs in a minute. ”

“Will you be available this weekend Tasha?”

The repetitive mentioning of the name kept playing back and forth in Cayn’s mind. Was this one way of the Universe telling him that he had found his sister? He blushed the thoughts off. It can’t be her but then again, he didn’t know how His Tasha had grown up to be.

“Yes, Why?” Tasha Ngoma answered her coworker.

“I needed some help on a particular issue, I’ll come back later. I thought you were going to Kabwe to that orphanage you volunteer for.”

By this time, Cayn was sweating profusely, shaking in his chair and afraid that he might pass out. Her name was Tasha. She also volunteered for an orphanage. He didn’t know what to make of that. He had to be open minded, anything was possible. The orphanage he and Tasha where at was closed a long time ago. It can’t be her, he said. If only he knew how Tasha looked like when they were children, this would have been more easier but as it stood, his mind was a blank slate concerning his childhood memories. He only had a name to her.

“Mr. Simfukwe!” she called him but could tell he was lost in his thoughts. “Sir!”

He snapped out of his trance. “Oh sorry, what were you saying again?”

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine thanks, can i see my mother?”

“This way,” she stood up. “Follow me.”

She led him to where his mother was resting. They found her sleeping. She walked to his mother and checked her pulse. “We had to sedate her. She was scared of everyone.”

Cayn kept looking at her. He needed and prayed for anything that would convince him it was really his sister but there was nothing. “So your name is Tasha?”

She turned and looked back at him weirdly answering curtly. “Yes.”

“I’m sorry, i knew a Tasha sometime back. You wouldn’t happen to be her, right?” he jokingly said.

“If i was her we would have recognized each other sir,” She said concentrating on his mother. “I’ll leave you with her, i have to check my other patient,” she left the room.

He sat beside his mother and held her hand. Why did he feel so empty? He thought, his mother was with him but he felt like he had no one in his life. He then remembered Sky but blushed off his thoughts. “Mayi,” he said. “If you can hear me, it’s me Kani. We are finally together now. We are just missing one person and i have absolutely no clue where to find her. If only she was searching for me, we could have found each other but i think she forgot about us Mayi because there is no way she could not have returned to the orphanage for me. All the years that i stayed with Greg and Veronica, not a single day passed without wishing for Tasha to knock at our door. I guess i was a dreamer,” he chuckled a tear streaming down his cheek. “And I’m still a dreamer, even upto now i still think i can find her, imagine?” he laughed. “Your doctors name is Tasha Mayi, what are the odds? It can’t be her, can it? NO it can’t but what if it’s her? That would be messed up but in a pretty way. Mayi i have to find out if it’s her, i won’t lose anything, will i?” he felt like he was going insane.

He stood up and left the room. He called Dr. Kunda. “Hello Dr. I’m at your clinic.”

“Oh yeah, Dr. Ngoma told me. Is she taking good care of your mother?”

“More than i can wish for Dr. Thanks. I just wanted to find out something Dr.”

“Anything.”

“It’s personal though.”

“What is it Mr. Simfukwe?”

“Dr. Ngoma. Do you know anything concerning your Dr’s in charge background?”

Dr. Kunda laughed. “Sorry but that’s funny, why would you need that?”

“It’s personal Dr.”

“She’s my employee so that makes it my business Mr. Simfukwe.”

“I like her,” he lied.

“Come on, be a man, is that a reason to ask for her background from me. Man up, ask her yourself Cayn. I better be going now.”

The doctor hang up the phone. From where he had stood, Cayn could see Tasha clearly tending to a patient. He watched her with interest. It wouldn’t be bad if she turned out to be his sister, he thought. He needed to find out more about her and he had to do it himself.

Sky drove into the flat she was renting. As usual, she found no one. Her neighbor was not in. She parked her car and walked to her flat. She was pissed and very furious. She understood why Cayn acted like that, but did he really have to chase her? She asked herself unlocking the door and not noticing that it was already unlocked. She entered and went directly to the kitchen. She got a bottle of water in the fridge and sat down. She was mad at Cayn alright, but she was really mad at Franklin. That b****** of a thing called a human, she thought. She needed to deal with him and she didn’t want to wait. First, she needed her gear. She got up and went to her bedroom and bumped into the very person she felt like strangling.

“Hey love,” Franklin said getting up from the bed.

“What are you doing here?” she asked furiously.

“I thought you had changed the key i was surprised you didn’t.”

“I have been busy.”

“I see. I just came to apologize. I ratted your boss out and those officers told me they could protect me but they showed him my picture. Idiots, what kind of officers are they?”

She looked at him clenching her fists.

“Easy Easy darling, If only you had introduced him to me, all that wouldn’t have happened now he’s cornered. Soon, he’ll be caught.”

She stepped forward to him. He got out of the bed and stood on the other side. “Wait, i didn’t plan for this, they offered me a good deal. What was i supposed to do?”

She got on the bed and jumped to the other side. He ran away from her and got Where she earlier stood. “Say something!” he shouted. “You know i can’t fight but don’t underestimate me.”

She chased him and he ran to the living room where they found a big bodied built man standing. Franklin ran behind the man and hid himself. “I knew you wouldn’t succ-mb to dialogue, that’s the reason i brought with me my friend here,” he pointed at the man and went on. “You’re Always ready for a fight. No wonder i dumped you. Now let’s just talk. Tell me where the entrance to the underground in the house is and we’ll be out of your hair.”

Sky looked at the heavily built man and felt cold and uneasy. There was no way she could take him down. “I ain’t saying s***,” she said.

“Okay,” Franklin said sitting down. “Don’t ever say i didn’t try to plead with you. It’s just an underground thing, all i need is the equipment, i need to get to it before the cops. It would be a waste if the cops get hold of it because whether your boss likes it or not, he’s hitting the chambers.”

The body built man bustled towards Sky while she stood firmly without moving a muscle. He tried to grab her but she ducked and punched him. Her punch hit the man like a leaf had just been thrown on his face. He looked at her angrily and threw a heavy punch. She slid backwards feeling it pass through her face making her shiver. He threw another one which she slightly ducked losing balance of herself and slipped to the floor. He reached for her and grabbed her, lifted her and strangled her against the wall. She couldn’t breath but punched and kicked him.

“Are we going to talk Darling?” Franklin said standing up. “It hurts me seeing you like that. Just tell me, Your boss ain’t worth your life.”

She painfully looked at him and whispered. “Screw you Franklin.”

The heavily bodied man slammed her down on the floor. He picked her up again and slapped her countless times she bled from her nose. He carried her like a small helpless little puppy; she was so powerless and couldn’t even throw a descent punch. He disgustingly looked at her and broke her nose with his head she fell on the floor as one struck dead.
