âHey Courtney, are you okay?â Donald asked from the kitchen entrance while I brewed coffee.
âYes I amâ I replied flatly.
âSee Uncle is a very nice manâ he entered fully into the kitchen and took a cup for himself.
âYeah heâs very niceâ I said in the same flat voice.
âAre you being sarcastic?â He raised an eyebrow
âAm I?â I countered back.
âPrepared breakfast?â
âNo not yetâ I answered and put sugar and milk in my coffee.
âThen whoâs the owner of that?â He nodded to the big bowl of chÂĄps sitting on the kitchen counter.
âMeâ
âYouâre going to eat?â He straightened up âthat bowl of chÂĄps would last me a weekâ
I ignored him and put some chÂĄps in my mouth.
I couldnât sleep last night which was why Iâm drinking coffee at 7am in the morning.
I was on the bathtub through out the night, trying to scrub off his scent, touch and sweat away from my body with scalding hot water, a bar of soap and a new sponge.
He had always been prepared, he put me on birth control pills and wore cd when I was in the dark room.
Is it going to go on forever again? Itâs never going to end? Whoâll save me?
Suicide crossed my mind twice yesterday but I dismissed the thought quickly. I need to avenge my parents death and collect whatâs rightfully mine from Simon.
âWhatâs with you?â Donald asked
âWith me?â I asked and carried the bowl of chÂĄps and my coffee to the living room
âYeah, you were crying yesterday and you suddenly have a huge appetite which only happens when youâre angry or unhappy so which is it?â
âNeither, I just had the cravingsâ
He shook his head in response âIâm going outâ
The hair on my body stood, will I be left with Simon again?
âAnd youâre following meâ he added.
I breathed out in relief âwhy?â I asked
âItâs an order, not a requestâ he said firmly.
Did he think I wouldnât jump at the opportunity? Even if he wants to sell me out, Iâll gladly follow him and even convince the buyers to buy me.
âIs it necessary for her to follow you? Isnât she your maid? She didnât to stay home besides who would keep me company?â Simon entered the living room.
I focused my gaze on the TV and continued eating.
âMorning Noraâ he greeted âSorry I meant Courtneyâ he corrected himself.
My heart was beating really fast, what if he tells Donald another story about both of us and Donaldâs hates me?
âNora?â Donald looked lost in thought âIâve heard that name beforeâ
I stiffened and risk a glance at Simon who also looked surprised.
âReally?â Simon asked.
âYeah besides why did you call her Nora?â
âIt was a slip of tongue. I was thinking about Nora, a girl I knowâ
âOkay so Uncle, I guess youâll have to be alone this time. I really need to take Courtney with meâ
Seeing he couldnât argue further else it would look suspicious, he gave in.
I owe Donald this.
I left the chÂĄps and hurried to my room to get dressed.
I wore a simple yellow gown, left my hair loose and wore a black shoes then head downstairs to meet waiting Donald.
I carried my chÂĄps with me to the car and he drove to very soon Iâll know where.
He stopped on the side of the road after a thirty minutes driving and came out.
âLetâs just explore the city, maybe thatâll help youâ he opened the car door on my side and said.
I nodded in surprise and came out.
He took my hand in his while I hung on to the bowl of chÂĄps, carrying with like a valuable prize.
As we strolled, holding hands in public, my mind was free. I gradually loosened up and smiled to the jokes he made and the compliments he gave to people.
We passed by a flower shop, he stopped us there and bought a tiara made with Lily flowers.
âThereâ he placed it on my head âyou look more beautiful now not like an angry birdâ he grinned and pulled out his phone, taking a shot of us quickly before I could react.
I wasnât even prepared, I frowned in the picture still clinging on to my bowl of chÂĄps.
The picture looked stupid in a beautiful way.
âDelete that pictureâ I pouted
âWe still have many to takeâ he pocketed his phone and hooked his arm in mine, giving me the liberty to eat my chÂĄps.
I felt good and relaxed. I wish I could feel this way everytime.
âCould you try to be happy and not be sullen for once. Laugh every once in a while and smile every timeâ Donald said quietly and pulled me into a park.
There were a lot of kids there, having fun.
âWhy are we here?â I asked
He ignored me and unhooked his srm from mine to meet a young man then he came back to me and pushed me towards a bouncy castle.
He jumped on it and bounced.
âOmg Donald, what are you doing?â I asked, unable to stop the laugh itching my throat.
âBouncingâ he shrugged, jumping.
I shook my head, laughing. People brought out their phones to video him. Itâs not everyday you see a grown man in a bouncy castle.
âCome on, come try it. Itâs good for the healthâ
âNo Iâll pass, I like watching you betterâ I smiled
âPleaseâ he gave me puppy eyes.
âAnswer the poor guy, heâs going to keep bouncing till you say yesâ an elderly woman said, using her walking stick to push me forward âAnd give me that bowl, a lady like you should always think about being fit. Work on your appetite.â
I handed over the chÂĄps to her and entered the bouncy castle grudgingly.
I had barely entered when Donald took my hands making me jump with him.
âThis is funâ he said tiredly and laid on the bouncer.
âYeah rightâ I landed, putting my head on his stomach gazing up at the sky.
âWhere have you heard that name?â I asked.
âOn the TV 15 years ago. A family was looking for a eight year old girl. She was missing. The search continued for four years I think. No one in state doesnât know about the her.â He replied, he knew I was referring to Nora.
I canât believe this, I have a family??
My heart skipped excitedly, maybe I could get them to help.
The happiness went down the drain when I remembered how callous Simon can be.
â Letâs go have ice creamâ Donald stood up, pulling me with him.

âI see you had loads of funâ Simon said immediately we entered, his chilling gaze resting on me, freezing my smile.
âNo we didnât UncâŠ. There was no fun, we just did some workâ Donald replied put his hands over mine possessively.
Okay, why did Donald lie?
âIf you had take me along, she would have been forced to be freeâ Simon replied smug.
âFree how? I just told you we had no funâ Donald narrowed his eyes at Simon
âOh, my badâ he smiled, âmy bedsheet needs cleaning Courtney, please attend to itâ
I bowed a little and left their midst, my heart heavy again.
I kept the tiara on my dressing table and went through the pictures we took together. The pictures were really cute, I donât understand why things are a little complicated.
I sighed tiredly and went to Simonâs room.
I took the clean bedsheet he claimed needs cleaning and made to leave when I saw him enter and lock the door behind him.
My heart rate picked as I stared at him âI see my cousin is really into you.â He circled around me.
I stood still, afraid to move. âIâm going to tell Donald, Iâll tell himâ
His eyes turned dark and gleamed wickedly. âWho would he believe? His maid whoâs stranger or his uncle by blood?
I hadnât thought of it that way, heâs right. Donald wouldnât believe me.
I made a dash for the door and opened it quickly, making my escape.
I canât stand another minute in the room, I was suffocating.
One week and fifteen rapes after,
I sneaked out of my room and visited a club for the first time in my life under the disguise of a thug.
I used a cloth to bind my chest to make it flat and wore baggy clothes.
Getting into the character was hĂŠrd as I havenât been friends to one or saw one except in movies.
The air reeked of drugs, heavy one and the guys were rough looking. I didnât let it deter me. I just have to endure a few more days from Simon then itâll be the end of him.
âState your businessâ a guy stopped me at the entrance. My appearance was looking slightly out of place. Even the temporary tattoo on my neck didnât seem to work.
I cleared my throat silently and made sure to make eye contact with the guy.
âIâm here too see Div. I need white powder and I want him to give me personallyâ I said in a hĂŠrd voice.
âNo appointment No Divâ he said gruffly and dismissed me with a wave of his hands.
I wonât take no for an answer.
âEven when it seems important?â I asked using a hoarse voice âI need to see Div privately and now. Tell him itâs a matter between life and deathâ
The guy gave me a once-over unsurely. I made sure to meet his gaze as any form of weakness would give me a way.
Few minutes later, I was ushered into the innermost part of the club.
The door to an office was opened and I entered almost regretting why I came in the first place.
All the guards standing there looked scary.
âHow may I help you maâam?â
I furrowed my brows in shock, how did he know Iâm a lady? Iâm very good with disguise. I looked at my body again, looking for what gave me away.
He chuckled softly âyou just confirmed my guessâ the good looking man who would be in his late twenties continued.
Is this Div? He doesnât look wicked or cruel, he could pass for a gentle man.
I squared my shoulders and lifted my head âI need a gunâ

I felt something amiss. Ever since Uncle came, Courtney is always fidgety and jumps at any slight noise.
I think they have a history together, if only I know what it is.
Uncle Simon couldnât have called her Nora mistakenly, they know each other but whatâs their relationshÂĄp?
When lied to Uncle that I didnât take Courtney fun, I felt the need to like she would be punished if he knew.
I stood up from the sofa and marched to Uncleâs room determined to get answers.
I knocked on his door once and opened without waiting for his response.
He jumped up from the bed in surprise. âWTH! Donald?â
âWhatâs the relationshÂĄp between you and Courtney?â I asked, his eyes dimmed instantly
