Broken Vow (episode 7)

The sight of Richærd, standing in front of the door, brought unexplainable joy and relief to Lisa that she didn’t even know when she started tearing up. It’s been over a month since he angrily left the house without telling her or anyone where he was going to. Lisa felt ashamed and guilty as she stood in front of him, she had so many things to say but didn’t know how to start.
“I’ve been worried and have lost sleep for the past 4 weeks, thinking of you. I kept wondering where you were and tried everything I could to find you but couldn’t. Richærd I’m so sorry, please find a place in your heart to forgive me. I had an affair with Sean only twice and would spend the rest of my life regretting it” she said with tears falling off her eyes.
Richærd was just staring at her without saying anything. His silence killed Lisa the more because she didn’t have a clue of what was going on in his mind, “Please say something” she pleaded as she lifted her hands to wipe the tears that fell off her eyes. After a while of keeping silent, Richærd held her hands and they walked to the couch and sat down. Lisa was relieved that he even touched her hands but she was still scared because she didn’t know what was on his mind.
“While I was away, I kept giving myself reasons as to why this marriage wouldn’t work again. I told myself that it was over because I couldn’t live with the fact that another man had touched you, I tried to talk myself into believing that I don’t need you in my life anymore. I tried to push all the blames to you so that my reasons for leaving you would be justified. I hated you and was disappointed in you, but in all this, I felt guilty too and didn’t know why. I battled with myself everyday to erase the guilt I was feeling but lost every time I tried. I had sleepless nights trying to find out why I felt guilty for a crime I didn’t commit until the answer I sought dawned on me on one of those days. I finally realized that in my decision and resolution to call our marriage off, I was also breaking the vow I made to you on our wedding day which was, For Better & For Worst. Lisa, two wrongs can’t make a right and the only way this marriage can work is if we avoid throwing blames at each other. I’m suppose to be your strength when you’re weak and also pull you up when you fall. I feel betrayed and hurt by what you did but I have come to realize that you are human first before being my wife. It takes two to tangle, so for this marriage to works again, the both of us would have to want it to work; it has to be a joint effort. I still love you and would always love you, even if we eventually end up apart” Richærd said, looking into her eyes.
Lisa couldn’t believe that Richærd was a real human. For a moment, she thought it was all a dream and was waiting for someone to wake her up. It was as though she had been living with a total stranger all these years because she never believed her husband has such a good and compassionate side of him. “Richærd you are a good man and I don’t think I deserve you. It took all this to happen for me to realize that I was playing with a rare precious jewel. I was carried away by shadows and glittery reflections of the things I thought I wanted, forgetting that I had the main deal as mine. I’m so sorry babe, I don’t want to lose you ever, I could die if I did. I want us to work out again and I’m willing to see a counsellor or therapist to help us” she said sobbing.
Richærd moved closer to Lisa and hugged her. Immediately he wrapped his hands around her, she burst into uncontrollable tears. Richærd tried to console her but it wasn’t working at all. Lisa poured out every single emotion she had been bottling up for the past 4 weeks. Being in the arms of the man she thought she had lost forever, triggered her emotional outburst. That night was an emotional one for them and Richærd still had to leave to sleep in a hotel because they needed some individual space and time to think. He came around the next day and Lisa prepared his favorite meal and they quietly ate together. Richærd missed his wife and wanted things to go back as normal but it was just hærd for him to forget all that had happened.
They took it step by step in working things out and the first thing they did was to go for a medical check up. Lisa wanted to be sure she hadn’t contacted any disease or gotten pregnant from her affair with Sean. All results came out “Negative” and they were relieved. They went to a marriage counsellor for advice and solution to their marital problem.
Everything started becoming less awkward between them and they fell in love with each other all over again. Richærd finally came back home and their daughter was brought back from her grand parent’s house. Richærd took a leave of absence from work to be able to have enough time for his family and their marriage healing process, Lisa also did same too. In no time, everything became almost normal as before.
One fateful night, Richærd and Lisa were awake talking about how far they had come and how they were happy for not giving up on their marriage. “I’m so lucky to have you and I want us to renew our wedding vows now” Lisa said smiling, “Who’s going to be the priest?” Richærd jokingly asked and Lisa said they didn’t need one. “Babe I’ll just reaffirm my love for you and also renew my commitments and you’ll do same afterwards” Lisa said and Richærd agreed.
Lisa was to go first so she said “Today I reaffirm my love for you Richærd. I promise to love you without conditions, I promise to be there for you through thick and thin, I promise to love you for better and for worst, I promise to have eyes for only you and no one else, I promise to always put you first in all that I do and be a good wife to you. I love you today and forever”.
Richærd smiled and said “Today, I reaffirm my love for you Lisa. I promise to put your needs first all the days of my life, I promise to always be here whenever you need me, I promise to love you for better and for worst, I promise to be the best man I can for you and our daughter. I love you today and forever”.
They k-ssed passionately afterwards and made love like they had never done before. Lisa gave Richærd every bit of her body, spirit and soul and Richærd did same too. He made sure she had one of the best nights of her life.
Love is indeed beautiful and sour at the same time. Most people go into relationsh¡ps, expecting it to be a bed of roses and are quick to flee when the reserve becomes the case. No love story ever worth telling was without tears and sad moments at first. What makes a great relationsh¡p is two people with faults, who are willing to forgive each other at every given time.
There’s no such thing as a fairy tale, smooth relationsh¡p with no downtimes. Everyone is going through something in their relationsh¡p, but if the determination and commitment to be together is stronger than the problem, your relationsh¡p would always scale through anything and come out unhurt. It’s ok to be imperfect, but ensure not to hurt the people that care about you with your actions. Try to avoid temptation and if it eventually comes knocking at your door, FLEE!
