Episode 8

AT MIDNIGHT….

That evening, the three corp members gathered to have their devotion, after which they payed and retired to their various rooms to rest for the night.

At 12 midnight, Ike woke up. He was feeling uneasy and needed to urinate. As he opened the his door, he was surprised at what he saw.

There were about 13 chairs all arranged in front of their rooms in a meeting pattern. Six were arranged facing each other while one chair was placed in their middle just as it was in the king’s palace.

“Who’s this boy coming out of that room?” A voice asked.

“It’s one of them…” Another voice said.

Ike was gripped with fear immediately. He could hear their voices, but saw no one.

He ran back into his room. The noise of his door awoken Folakemi and Hassan. They came out to know what was happening.

Folakemi looked and saw the chairs in front of the lodge.

She too became afraid and ran in,side.

Hassan, on the other hand, though, afraid, yet stood still.

The sight was strange but he refused to run as others had done.

“For the Lord has not given me the spirit of fear, but of faith, love and a sound mind….” He said aloud.

Ike peeped through his window and saw Hassan standing outside.

Hassan was looking at the chairs as if he could see the spirits.

“Why is he looking at us like that? This boy must be bold….” One of the spirits said.

One the spirits picked a wood and threw it at Hassan. He dodged it.

“There is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel….” Hassan said with courage.

“Keep quiet there, young man. As you can see, we are in a meeting….” Their leader said.

The Lord opened the eyes Hassan and he saw all of them. They were all looking very strange in appearance. The chief priest was also in their midst.

“This is not your meeting ground…” Hassan replied.

One of the spirit attempted to slap him, but he shouted “Jeeeeeeeesssssssusssss….”

This brought thunder and lightning everywhere.

The spirits were scattered. Folakemi and Ike came out. They began to pray.

Chairs could be seen falling down and breaking.

“The gods that didn’t make the Heaven and the Earth shall perish from the Earth. Associate yourselves together, and ye shall be broken in pieces. Take counsel together and it shall not stand…..” Hassan said as he quoted the scriptures….

“Yes….yes…. For thus says the Lord, who is he that says a thing and it comes to pass when the Lord has not commanded it….” Folakemi added

“There’s no counsel against the Lord and every evil device against his anointed ones shall perish…” Ike said.

“We will deal with you all. We will destroy you…” One of the spirits said.

As he tries to attack Hassan, he was pushed back by an invisible hand.

“He suffer no man to do them harm. He rebuked kings for their sakes saying, touch not mine anointed and do my prophet no harm…” Hassan said.

All the spirits faced them with their hands stretched out towards the corp members.

“Every evil hands stretched out against us, I command, wither by the fire of God in Jesus name…” Folakemi shouted.

She couldn’t see them, but was led to utter that statement.

A mighty thunder struck and there was release of lightning that came down and scattered all the spirits.

While this battle was on, the king was awakened by the sounds of that thunder.

“Guards…..!” He shouted.

The guards came to him.

“Igweeeeeee” they all said.

“What’s happening? This is strange! I’ve never experienced this great horror that I am experiencing now. Besides, the thunder and lightnings everywhere without any rainfall! What is happening?” He shouted again.

“My king…we will find out….” The chief of the guards said.

They went out into the darkness to know what is happening.

As they looked around, an invisible hand gripped one of them.

“Ahhhhhh…. Leave me alone…. leave me alone…” He cried out.

The other guards were confused.

Another guard was held also. This one shouted.

“Ahhhhhh….my hands are tied….help me….”

There was fear and panic among them. They wanted to run, but the chief guard spoke out.

“No… wait…. wait…. I remember what that corper said when he preached to us all. He told us that if we call on the name of his God, He would deliver us…..”

“Yes….yes…I remembered. So, what’s the name of his God…? Another guard asked him.

“Ehm….ehm….” The chief guard was thinking…

“Ahhhhhh….he is taking me away. Please…help me…” One the guards held cried out as the spirit drag him off.

“Oh, what’s His name…?” Another asked.

“I remembered now. His name is Jesus…” The chief guard said.

They all shouted “Jesuuuuuuuus”

The spirit released the guards and fled.

The guards ran very fast into the palace. They reported to the king what happened.

“And they overcame him by the Blood and by the word of their testimony…” Hassan said as he resisted the spirits’ arrows.

“We resist you all by the Blood of Jesus…..” Ike said boldly.

“Hallelujah….they have fallen….” Hassan said joyfully.

“Yes, it is written in Luke 10:18, Behold, I beheld Satan like lightning fall from heaven…” Folakemi added.

The thunder intensified in its roarings.

The Battle was fierce that night but eventually the spirits retreated and fled away.

“They have gone. Jesus has won!” Hassan said. He was exhausted.

Everywhere became quiet as the thunder and lightnings ceased.

The corp members held their hands and praised God that night before retreating to their rooms to rest.

The chief priest appeared in the shrine severely wounded. Ogugu was enraged and vowed to destroy these corp members once and for all.

“Their end has come!” He said and growled like an angry lion.
