Dark Night episode 17

The End of a road is not yet the end of the journey. It must definitely open another door to a new chapter.
It was the next morning, Shadow got better and was discharged but to his greater surprise, he was told one of his officers has been admitted too. He checked him in his ward where he narrated the wh0le story. Shadow had to suspend the case at hand and took up the matter – the recent located kidnappers layout where his officer sustained injuries. He took some set of forces – civil defense, police and DSS with him and invaded the entire layout. They arrested some of the criminals whom they locked in custody. A great relief and talk of the town to all people in the community as many lost children were recovered. The just achievement exposed Shadow to the world and its danger. He took the second officer who had been bribed to uncover their secret and plans to chief’s house. Getting to the compound, her gatekeeper wanted to stop him from entering due to the way shadow deceived him in their last visit. From the several attempts, they never could get in till the gate turned to battlefield. “you’re not man, I will suggest you leave this vicinity else, I call you thief”. The gatekeeper pronounced.
Shadow:
You are pissing me off with this nonsensical character. You better respect yourself young man before I finally loose my temper.
Gatekeeper:
You said wetin? What would you have me do, ehn? Tell me na. Oga, I don’t want you set your feet here ever… Stupid man. My oga (boss) hate you coming here yet you still want to force yourself in.
Second officer:
(He has been so furious and never expected shadow could be a lady – talking gibberish with the gatekeeper who he should have just locked up in prison.)
Oga, let me arrest this lunatic, he just needs a simple lesson. We don’t treat people like Whitman here, tell him every citizen is nobody except those with money or having law beside them.
Shadow turned and glance a look at the officer, he pictured him from his speech and related it to what he was told that some big men have bribed him to work against them and link their investigation. So, this is worth of a man. God! Heart it too deeper than well. As he was promising the gatekeeper, assuring him better money in his next visit. Madam came out, hearing fracas.
Toyin:
(Shouted)
What’s the matter over there, gate-man?
Gatekeeper:
Nothing ma, some madmen came, begging for money but don’t worry ma, I’ve sent them away.
Hearing him saying this infuriate the second officer, he dragged him closer and landed him a good slap. He shout out of pain, opened the gate for them in and sat down quietly. Shadow was surprised, as young man cooperated. “So, a slap can change a man’s heart”. He said and laughed. They went in and walked up to chief’s wife. Good day madam. They greeted her.
Toyin:
(Angrily)
By the way, I thought I told you to abstain from my house. So why are you here again. And see what you did to my gateman.
Shadow:
(Calmly)
We’re sorry ma, very sorry.
Toyin:
(tempered)
You must be sorry for yourself. Gateman, come and bulge these nuisances out of my house.
Second officer:
(Gently and teasingly)
Madam, madam, this is not your house, it’s your husband house. (Making jest of her – hahaha)
The gatekeeper was still holding his cheek, he just shook his head in response that he could not force them out. Madam got more furious and transfered aggression on him.
Toyin:
I see, you know what, go in there now, pack your load and leave my house immediately.
Shadow:
Calm down, we are here to business with you.
He brought out some of the pictures and threw it on the ground. “What’s this” she questioned. She picked it up and saw herself unclad, making love with their former gateman. Wha… what… what is… She stammered as her hands shake. “Shadow, why are you doing this, we brought you up, sent you abroad, sponsored you till you became a man. Now, see what you are doing to me. Why, why Shadow? She asked and sat down tirelessly on the floor like a woman that just lost her only husband.
Shadow:
I’m very sorry ma. It’s just that you gave me no other option. I tried to relate with you gently but you insisted. But there is still way out because it is very easy to solve. (He walked to Toyin, collected the pictures and handed it to the police while he pulled her up.) Come on, stand up. I have no interest to blackmail you. Just let’s hammer the nail and let it rest.
Toyin brought them in, she wanted to entertain them but they insisted hoping she might poison them as a once enemy who did not want to see them is pretending like a friend.
Toyin confessed and opened up, she told the second officer to excuse them and made shadow promised her that he would help her. After they both agreed. She told him she did not kill her husband, but told their former gateman who they have been secretly sleeping together when her husband was still alive to terminate him.
Toyin:
(Continued)
I didn’t know how he did it. I only remembered in one of our rom-nce in hotel that my husband would not let us enjoy ourselves anymore. So, he asked me if there was anything we could do while I only suggested we terminate him. That’s all. Please, I am innocent and cannot kill my own husband. Moreover, shadow, you must help me so that I will not end up in prison.

Shadow thought that Adultery or unfaithfulness is the worst thing in marriage. He understood better now why Jesus approved it as the only reason for divorce.
