He got to her house and asked the maids to send for her.
He waited for about 20mins but didn’t see either the maid he sent or Edna herself.
He became impatient, he wanted to go upstairs to her room when the maid returned.
“I’m sorry sir, but she says she doesn’t want to see you” she said with a slight bow.
“what the heck? You mean I can’t see my girlfriend. Come on, go tell her I insist she sees me now” he ordered the maid who reluctantly went back upstairs.
She came back to the living room and said “miss William is angry with you and doesn’t desire to see your face yet”
“fine I’ll go upstairs since she doesn’t want to come downstairs” he said and stood up with his bouquet.
“no sir, you can’t go upstairs. You’re not permitted to” she said trying to block his way
“then get that f-cking girl down here” he said and the maid replied “OK, I’ll try.” then she went upstairs.
Deon was already pissed off

“what, he wanted coming upstairs? Why didn’t you let him come? Gosh, you know I really want to see him and that I’m just pretending to be really annoyed with him. I just want him to feel like I’m angry so he’ll give me more attention. It would have been better if came to my room here. Now you’ve spoilt that plan” Edna blurted out to the maid
“well ma’am, you could go downstairs and act like he’s not welcome then put on a sad face. And he might try to cheer u up, besides it seems he’s here to apologize since he’s with flowers.” another maid suggested.
“that’s perfect, let’s go and see him” Edna said and they followed her downstairs.
But when they got there, Deon and his flowers were no longer there.
“where did he go?” she asked
“I don’t know ma’am, he was here just awhile ago” the first maid replied
“maybe he’s somewhere else, around the house. Let’s ask the rest” the second maid suggested.
They got to the facade and met Edna’s best friend Bukola coming to see her.
“hey girlfriend, what happened now. I met Deon on his way outside the house. He was really angry, did u piss him off?” she said to a puzzled Edna
“what? Out of the house? He left? And you said he was looking angry?” Edna asked
“what did you do to him?” Edna couldn’t reply, she was just regretting that she didn’t attend to him in the first place.

Deon was on the road, driving angrily.
Edna really pissed him off with that attitude.
He wanted going to hang out with his friends at a hotel but he looked at the flowers and took a different turn, heading to the estate where Lucy now lived.
He got there and headed straight to the duplex.
The employees there kept greeting him, some wondered why he wasn’t with his bouncers as usual.
He clutched the flowers and rang the doorbell.
A maid opened it and bowed while greeting him
“where’s Lucy?” he asked.
“she’s upstairs sir. I’ll call her for you” she replied and went upstairs.
Deon sat on one of the cushions and a steward came to serve him some drinks.
In less than few minutes, Lucy came running downstairs with a miniskirt and black top.
She ran straight to Deon and hugged him.
“good morning Gideon, ohh sorry good morning Deon” she said then chuckled
“hahaha, good morning Lucy. How was your night?”
“it was better than my nights for over two years” she said and Deon smiled a little.
“have you had breakfast?” he asked and she nodded.
His eyes moved to her right arm and he saw the tattoo. He felt a lump in his throat and became uneasy.
“are you okay ” Lucy asked
“yes. Uhmm, do you want to see your mother now. We could go to the hospital together then later we’ll talk about how you’ve been all this years, OK?”
“okay” she replied and went upstairs then collapsed on the bed.
She could feel that Gideon was not the same guy she knew, he has changed a lot.
He was now coordinated and lived a classic life.
She loved him for the few months he was away, thinking that he’ll be back for her.
But after about 7months of his disappearance and the relocation of his family to the city she lost all hope.
Her friends discouraged her and she lost her love for him.
What pained her most was when she heard about his relationsh¡p with a high class girl.
She was so pained and almost committed suicide but she thought of her mother.
And now she doesn’t know if she still loves him or not.
She stood up from the bed and got dressed to see her mother.
They went out of the house in company of two guards from that estate. They ordered for some things for her mother then set out to the hospital.
On their way, they passed through Edna’s car.
She recognized the car to be for him, so she and her friend turned round and followed him to the hospital.
When he got down, they wondered why he was in the hospital.
The guard also opened the second door for Lucy.
“who’s that girl?” Edna asked
“that’s not his sister right?…… Wait, isn’t it the same street girl he hugged, yesterday. Yes I’m sure that’s her.” Bukola replied
“whaaat! That damn girl again? Since Deon hugged her he’s been acting strange and now he left my house to be with her? Unbelievable!” Edna said and wanted going out to confront them but BK held her hand and drew her back into the car.
“don’t do anything stupid. We don’t know who that girl is yet. What if they’re related? ” she said
“they’re not. I contacted his elder sister last night, she knows nothing about the street girl” Lucy replied
“hmm, I highly doubt them being related. She looks like an AIDS patient and I think he’s taking her to the hospital for treatment.” BK said sarcastically
Edna scoffed and folded her arms.
“let’s go, we have to get information about her before taking any action” BK added
“fine, but if I should find out that she’s trying to separate Dee and I, she’ll so regret having anything to do with him” Edna replied and drove out of the hospital premises……

Deon was back from the hospital, Lucy stayed back with her mother.
She was due to be discharged soon though.
He had a fun day with Lucy, but he felt as if she wasn’t free with him.
More like she was now scared of him, anyway he shoved that thought aside.
He got into the shower and refreshed himself then climbed into his bed and took his iPhone out.
It’s been awhile since he went online, he first went to Instagram and glanced through it then he tried whatsapp and then facebook.
Non gave him interest, so he just brought the phone down and decided to take a nap.
10mins into his sleep, the door opened and Edna walked in. Apart from herself and his mum, no one else had a spare key to his room.
She stared at him sleeping peacefully on his bed.
She missed him and felt sorry for giving him attitude earlier on. She gently moved towards his bed and sat beside him.
Being very sensitive, he woke up and saw her face.
He sat up and said gently “Edna, what are you doing here? ”
Instead of answering him, she just hugged him unexpectedly with her head over his chest and her arms wrapped around his wa-ist.
He was a bit surprised by that and so did not hug her back immediately.
“I’m sorry baby” she muttered
“please don’t be mad at me. I really missed you“ Edna continued
“baby, it’s okay. I ain’t mad at you” Deon said, wrapping his arms around her too.
“you’re sure?” she asked without raising her head.
He cupped her face in his palms and looked at her.
“yep, I’m sure” he said and k-ssed her.
Edna was happy, she smiled sweetly “I love you Deon”
“I love you too Edna” he replied
“ahh, I’m starving. Let’s go grab something to eat” he said and pulled her out of the bed towards the door.
“okay, but I can’t walk” she said and eyed him.
He eyed her back and swayed her legs off the ground, carrying her out of the room while she was laughing happily

It’s been 24hrs since Deon checked up on Lucy and her mother. The next day, she’ll be discharged.
Lucy was spending the night with her at the hospital again and the night was cool.
The moon was full and bright, stars glistened up the sky.
Making it so beautiful and rom-ntic.
She decided to take a walk around the hospital premises since her mother was already fast asleep.
She loved nights like this, so cool and beautiful.
As she walked around, she kept looking up.
The sky reminded her of two nights she couldn’t forget.
First, the night she heard about Gideon’s success at the competition.
She was so very happy and couldn’t help jumping around.
The sky was as beautiful as it was then, when she danced about. If only she knew he would never come back for her.
The second night was quite the opposite, it was very dark and hot. Unexplainable heat surrounded the wh0le village, plus the dark sky that felt like hell itself with all the host of demons.
That night was the beginning of her struggle.
That night her father breathed his last.
Leaving her and her mother behind to suffer alone.
She had gone to get oil for their lamp from a nearby kiosk when she heard a loud scre-m together with the customers and the kiosk owner.
The scre-m was followed by shouts and cries from that same area.
Lucy’s heart skipped a beat when she realized that the scre-m was familiar to that of her mother’s voice.
She hurriedly payed the woman and headed towards their house, stumbling because she couldn’t walk properly anymore.
In fact her legs couldn’t carry her again.
She got closer to their house and saw that people were gathered there, with touches and lamps.
She saw her mother sitting on the bare floor and crying profusely.
Immediately it dawned on her and she threw away the oil.
“Papa, Papa, Papaa!” she scre-med and started to cry.
She needed no soothsayer to tell her that her father was gone.
He had been very sick for weeks and it was because of him she went to buy the oil cos he was complaining of the darkness.
He kept saying that darkness is covering him and that he couldn’t see properly.
Little did she know that he was already closing his eyes for life.
It was 3months after his death that they decided to come to the city to live with her mother’s brother.
He was also living from hand to mouth and they had to join hands with him to make a living.
Actually, he was arrested for owing a huge debt and was still in prison.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she reminisced the things she went through for the past two years.
Maybe non of it would have happened if Gideon remembered her.
She suddenly began to dislike him. “Traitor” she said and wiped her tears.
She looked up at the sky once more and then turned back to go in,side.

Lucy’s mother was very happy that she was out of the hospital and now going to live in a huge house.
She was all smiles and thanking Gideon for his help.
She was taken to the master bedroom upstairs and showed around the house.
Later, he gave her enough money to manage the house and also to make their lives comfortable.
The woman was so happy, she began to dance and sing.
The amount was huge and she never dreamed of holding such money before.
All this time, Lucy was just hanging around them not participating much.
She just scoffed and rolled eyes whenever her mother was praising him.
“for God’s sake, this idiot forsaked us for 2yrs and you’ve forgotten all the tears we shed when we remembered how he was living buoyant and we as paupers just because he gave us a house and money.
If only I was not sick, I would have gone for the competition myself” she said in her mind and hissed aloud.
“are you okay?” Deon asked
She looked up at him and didnt reply, instead she sat down on the cushion.
“Lucy you’re supposed to be happy. Why are you acting somehow na” her mother asked with sincere eyes
“Mama I’m OK, just that I’m already used to the house. That’s why” she replied
Her mother decided to go to the kitchen and get some food ready with the maids.
“so ain’t you gonna tell me what’s wrong with you now? ” Dee asked sitting opposite her.
She quickly replied “nothing” and stared at her fingers.
She felt him standing up and leaving the sitting room towards the front door.
“are you leaving?” she asked
“nope” he replied and she scoffed regretting why she even asked him in the first place.
She felt thirsty and went to get a glass of orange juice from the fridge in the kitchen and got back almost immediately.
She switched on the television and settled down to watch when Deon came back in,side with a leather bag.
He shoved it in front of her face and she looked up, a little bit frightened cos she didn’t see him coming in.
“you scared me” she said to him
“I know” he replied still holding the bag in front of her.
She felt irritated, he didn’t even say sorry.
“what’s this?” she asked looking at it
“it’s for you” he replied and gave it to her.
She kept her juice down and opened the bag.
In it was a rectangular box with the image of a phone on the front.
Lucy gasped as she brought the box out.
Deon bought her a phone…..

“so you guys are finally settled now?” Angela asked Edna.
They were at BK’s house, doing their nails 💅, together with one other friend, Tessy.
“yeah we are. I told him that I’m sorry and he said he wasn’t mad at me and that he missed me too” Edna replied Angela.
“that’s good for you, right?” she asked again
“of course it’s good for her. She loves that guy and she doesn’t want to loose him at all.” BK broke in.
Angela shrugged her shoulders and replied “yeah, that’s true”
Though they was a tinge of sadness in her voice and only Tessy could detect it.
“wow I love the way my nails glitter. It’s going to be a match for my glittery purse and shoes for tonight.”
Edna said, swinging her fingers in the air and watching them glitter as they came across rays of light from different angles.
“what’s happening tonight?” Tessy asked
“Deon and I are going out tonight. It’s going to be rom-ntic and sweet ” Edna replied, really happy
“wow” Angela muttered and sadden her face.
Tessy nudged her with her elbow and she smiled a bit.
“I need some snacks, let’s get some BK” Edna said and the both of them went out of the room
“Angela, why putting on that attitude. It’s too obvious ” Tessy whispered to her immediately she knew Edna and BK were out of earshot.
“what attitude?”
“oh pls! It’s very obvious that you’re jealous of Deon and Edna. From your attitude I already know that your feelings for him are still there”
“so what do you want me to do. I can’t hide it. You and I both know that she doesn’t deserve to be with him” Angela said
“whaat? So who deserves to be with him? You?…… Look Angy, don’t get into Edna’s trouble. I’m warning you” Tessy said and at that very moment Edna and BK walked in but luckily they only heard the last part of Tessy’s sentence
“get into Edna’s trouble for what?” BK asked
“don’t mind her, she wants to steal Edna’s style of dressing. She wants to be a copycat” Tessy said and they laughed
Angela gave Tessy a thank you look and she smiled in return.

“wow, Lucy this house is beautiful. Very beautiful ” Naomi her mother said as they were walking round the garden
“yes mama, it’s beautiful” Lucy replied looking at a sunflower 🌻

“ehh, Lucy how long are we staying here? Cos I’m sure this your husband is using this house for another thing. Is this not the type of house they use to act igwe film?”
She smiled at her mother’s words, an innocent woman who doesn’t deserve the way life was treating her
“mama, he’s not my husband and I don’t know how long we’ll be here” she replied calmly as she was playing gently with the waters of the garden fountain ⛲.
“ask him please”
They both sat down under a tree on top of some chairs.
Lucy was drowned in her thoughts.
She didn’t want anything to do with Deon anymore.
She didn’t want to hear about him nor see him.
The more she heard his name, the more her hatred for him grew.
If only he could disappear forever, but still she wanted him to stay just because of her mother.
She didn’t want her to go back into poverty.
She wanted her mother to live a happy life.
And from the way things were going, it seemed her mother was happy.
Naomi loved the environment, the food, the furniture, the house and even the clothes she now wore.
She also seemed happy about Lucy’s new looks.
She was even more happy about the phone he bought for her. She had prayed and blessed him.
“I wish he wasn’t the one that helped us. I wish it was another man who brought us here. It happens in movies and stories but I wonder if it happens real life” Lucy said in her mind
“……..then I’ll be selling fine fine clothes and shoes for all this rich people. Is it not better than to fully depend on him?” Naomi asked, she has been talking but Lucy didn’t hear anything except for that last part.
She jerked into reality
“yes mama, is good” she said wondering what her mother was saying
They stayed there for almost an hour then went back into the house cos it was getting late.
Naomi went to her room to relax while Lucy decided to watch TV in the living room.
She decided to check a channel that had to do with music.
A h¡p Hop was playing and the scene she met was that of some white girls break dancing, with jeans and sneakers.
She admired their outfits and the way they danced smoothly. She wished she knew how to dance.
The next scene stricken her, it was Deon sitting on the bonnet of a car and rapping.
She kept looking at the TV screen for almost a minute till she regained herself and hissed then changed the channel.
“so he has gone this far. Is as if, that video was not made in Nigeria.”
The next channel was better, a Korean movie. She settled down to watch it. Until she fell asleep on the cushion.

Edna was upstairs in her room, taking one last glance at the picture.
She was fully set for the party. Her dress was a lovely flowing golden gown.
That glittered and sparkled. Her purse was not gold but was studded with gems that made it glitter.
Everything was a perfect match.
“Deon should be here any minute from now. I can’t wait for him to see how beautiful I look” she said to herself
Right then a Maid walked in
“Miss, Deon is here to see you”
“ohh, I’ll be there now”
Then she gently walked down the stairs.
He saw her coming down and couldn’t help it.
He immediately stood up and walked towards her.
He stretched his hand and grabbed her then hugged her tight.
“I’ve missed you so much” Edna whispered
“I missed you more baby” then he looked at her. She was really beautiful.
“you look like an angel. Really beautiful. I could stare at you the wh0le day” he said
Edna chuckled as he k-ssed her.
They both went to his car and drove to the party.
But on their way, Edna felt like asking him who that street girl was and what he was doing with her at the hospital.
Then on second thought, she felt it would be wrong to ch¡p in such a question as it could change the sweet environment they were in.
Since it was that day’s event that brought up the beef, it could also spoil their mood.
So she decided to leave it for another day.
“Edna… We’re here” Deon told the lost in thought girl by his side.
“uhmm, okay” she muttered
“are you okay?”
“huh, yes I’m okay. Why’d you ask?”
“it seems you’re lost in thoughts and your countenance has changed. Is something making you sad?”
“no Dee, I’m okay. I was just thinking about my iPad, I left it at home and I don’t think I locked my room properly. My cousins might temper with it” she said, hoping he’ll believe that lie.
He got down and opened the door for her, then tucked her arm into his. They both walked into the highly guarded hotel.
Meant mainly for VIP, really expensive and classic.
It was a send off party for the daughter of a senator.
She was leaving the country to pursue her career in modeling and her friends were giving her a party.
She was a friend to Deon and he promised to perform there for her.
When they got in through the backstage, the other artists and important guest all cheered for him.
The celebrant was really happy and hugged him before hugging Edna.
The party was going on well, a comedian was on stage.
After him was Deon, for his rap.
That was when he got a call from his personal phone.
He brought it out and saw the caller, Lucy.
He wondered why she was calling him and delayed a little before picking it.
He thought something bad was happening to her but when he picked, he hærdly heard her voice except for some strange sounds.
He kept saying : hello, hello, Lucy, are you there? Are you alright?
Then finally he heard her voice : oh my goodness.
Then she cut the call.
He wanted calling her back but he couldn’t cos it was time for him to go up on stage

She was still asleep on the cushion and was turning around on it.
She laid down on her phone without her knowledge and as a result of her random motion, she unknowingly dialed Deon’s line.
He was the only contact she had at the moment and the only call she received since he got her the phone.
The beep beep sound echoed in her ear as his number was ringing.
But she was still deep in her sleep and didn’t wake up immediately.
She was still turning when he picked up and began to speak.
She woke up and found out that she accidentally called him.
“OH my goodness” she said and immediately cut the call without thinking.
She rubbed her fingers on her forehead and looked at the television.
She yawned and sat up to watch the show, a comedian was on the stage.
After his performance, the audience gave him a loud applause.
She was still feeling dizzy and wanted to go up to her room but she heard a name that made her eyes pop out.
The MC : …..now ladies and gentlemen….. Give it up for the most talented artist in our midst… The king of rap…. The coolest….. No other other person buttt……. DEON
Then the audience gave a standing ovation, amongst a very loud applause and cheers.

Lucy got irritated by the song.
“I wonder who he’s singing that song for? It must be his girlfriend.” she scoffed and angrily turned off the television.
She ran upstairs and collapsed on her bed with anger then suddenly started crying until she fell asleep.
