DIARY OF A COLLEGE GIRL:

A TOUCH OF LOVE
EPISODE 7
Akwasi stared at me and just kept staring.
“Why? Is it bad? Is my l¡pstick too much? Does the dress look ugly on me?” I asked anxiously.
He pulled me into his arms and looked deeply into my eyes with that expression on his face.
“You look breath-taking my darling. The dress fits like a dream,” he said huskily.
I smiled and shyly and stepped away from him.
“People are watching!” I whispered.
“Damn them!” he whispered back with a giggle. “They wish they were in my place.”

I giggled and held his hand, leading him outside to the car.

He opened it and ran over to my side, holding the door open.

“After you, Princess,” he said.

I sat down and he went over to the other side, started the ignition and we were en route.
I was curious as to where we were going, but he kept telling me it was a surprise, and so I finally gave up. He held my hand and we drove to the place.

I kept stealing glances at him. He cleaned up real nice. The long-sleeved shirt with polka dots gave him an official yet casual look. He looked very handsome.

We finally pulled up outside a restaurant. Golden Stars restaurant and live band.

“Wait here,” he told me.

He alighted, came around and opened the door for me.

We walked in and a waiter walked up to us.

“Welcome, sir,” he greeted Kwasi. “Right this way to your table.”

He took us to an outer part of the restaurant with fewer tables which overlooked a lake covered in lights. It was a beautiful sight.

He turned and held out his hand to me.

“May I?” he asked.

I placed my hand in his and smiled.

“Lead the way,” I said.

Our table was close to the lake, and I couldn’t help but stare.

“Earth to Cherie,” he said. “There’ll be time to stare but right now I want all the attention please.”

I looked at him.

He clapped three times and the waiter brought a menu.

“Whatever you want madam,” Kwasi said. “But I’ll recommend this right here.”

He pointed at a dish named the All Special meal. I gasped at the price. “What’s wrong? You don’t like it?”

“No, no… it’s just so… expensive….”

He took my hand in his.

“That doesn’t matter. It’s a special night. Let’s do something special.”

He clapped three times and the waiter came again. He ordered the special meal for us both.

It had everything inclusive.

I understood the prices when the food chain began.

First was an entrée of golden fried shrimps, fried squid, and pineapple juice. Afterwards came the main course; assorted fried rice, noodles, and different sauces.

Finally came dess**t; chocolate ice cream.

I was stuffed!

He had been cracking so many jokes during the meal and kept a permanent smile on my face whilst I wolfed down the food.

After my last spoon of ice cream, I looked at him and smiled.

“It must be illegal to have to be this filled,” I said.

He smiled at me.

“I’m glad you ate so well. Other ladies usually pretend like they don’t eat and waste my money.”

I smiled at him.

“My mum says its food they’ll use to kill me,” I said.

He burst into laughter. His handsome face lit up again.

“Well, now that we have filled bellies, why don’t we take a walk by the lake?” he suggested.

“I didn’t know its allowed,” I said.

“It’s not, but I know a guy who can help.”

He left some money on the table and we entered an elevator which took us down to the basement.

The lake was even more beautiful up close. It was a little chilly, and I gritted my teeth a little.

“I’m so sorry I don’t have a jacket, Cher,” he said and put his arm around my shoulders as we walked along the lake.

A man was holding a guitar and singing was standing at the end of the lake. I was wondering why he was there alone when we approached and then he suddenly spoke up.

“Cher, this song is dedicated to you, from Kwasi.”

I raised my head and looked at him.

His arm was still around me.

“It’s a song by Afriyie Wutah, Love of my life,” the serenader said and began to play.

Kwasi’s hand came off my shoulders and I looked at him.

He held out his hand.

“May I have this dance?”

His hands came round my wa-ist and mine around his neck. It was magical. The moon shone on us and I looked up into the sky. The stars had filled the sky, and it was a beautiful night.

I looked at his face and caught him staring at me. I smiled. He let go of my wa-ist and put on a serious face.

“Cher, it took me a while to accept it, because after my mother abandoned my father and I because he didn’t have much, I promised myself that I would never be a husband to anyone. I’d have baby mommas who I didn’t love and work hærd to pay child support. You… you make me want to change that. You make me want to do right by you and propose to you on one knee, have a big wedding and raise a family. you’re beautiful in,side out, the perfect description of a Proverbs 31 woman. I know you haven’t known me long, and neither have I, but I feel the time is right to do this.”

He took my hand in his.

“I love you,” he said softly. “I’ve never said those words to any woman and I’ll never say them to another. Please be my girlfriend.”

I stared at him, speechless, my expression of love and admiration complete on my face.

I nodded.

He yelped and jumped in the air.

“I was so scared, Cher. I thought you’ll say no.”

And I giggled and stared at him and started dancing around with him. He grabbed me and twirled round and round and he fell on his back with me landing on him.

We looked into each other’s eyes and our l-ips met. His l-ips on mine felt like a union of fire and ice. I could’ve sworn that the passion from that first k-ss left burns on my l-ips. We finally wrapped up the night and we drove back to my house in silence, a smile of contentment on our faces.

As promised, we were in front of my gate at 10 pm. I unbuckled my seat belt and looked at him.

“Thank you,” I said.

“What for?” he asked.

“For the best night of my life,” I answered in an unsteady voice.

He looked at me and smiled.

“I can’t believe you’re mine, Cher. I feel like I’m dreaming. And I want to do right by you, and I never want to make hurt you.”

I smiled right back at his words.

“Please, go easy on me. I’m a novice and don’t know anything about love.”

He stared at me.

“Cher, please call Sister Yaa so you can go back in.”

“Why?” I asked mockingly. “Are you tired of me already?”

His breathing had become heavy as he sighed.

“It’s really hærd to control myself around you, Cher. You’re extremely attractive. Just call her.”

I smiled teasingly and leaned over to his seat. He gro-ned and grabbed me, his l-ips on mine sent electric sparks through my body, I shuddered with pleasure. It was unlike anything I’d ever felt.

His tongue darted into my ear and I mo-ned as his l-ips traced down to my neck, leaving a trail on fire. He pulled away with a sigh as he got to the neckline of my dress.

“Call her, Cher,” he said in a tortured voice as his desire threatened to overpower him.

I made the call with shaky hands.

Her sleepy voice obliged my request and in a minute, she came to open the gate.

I alighted and watched him drive off as I waved.

Sister Yaa had gone back to bed. I locked up and entered a dark living room. Everyone had retired for the night. I silently moved towards my room not wanting to wake anyone up.

I squealed once I got into my room.

Oh, I was so excited. I had a boyfriend, and he loved me!

Me!

I traced my hand over my l-ips down to my neck. My first k-ss. It all felt wonderful, so magical.

I took a shower and lay down to relive the beautiful moments of the night and then his call came through.

“Hello, beautiful,” his voice rang through my ears. “I’m home now.”

“Me too,” I replied. “Just showered and lying down here.

“Likewise.”

There was silence for a moment.

“I can’t sleep,” I said.

“Me neither,” he started. “I can’t stop thinking about you, about us. I know we’re pretty young but I think you’re the one. I’ve never felt this way before.”

His words made me feel an inner glow. I was so overwhelmed with emotion; I could barely speak.

“Cher?” he called. “Are you asleep?”

“No…” I replied.

“I understand,” he said.

“My princess, I miss you.”

“Oh, Kwasi, I miss you too,” I replied.

We spent the night on the phone in silence, listening to the sound of each other’s breathing.
