For every painting I make, I’ve always needed a picture, something to copy and recreate
But for her’s, I’ve never needed any
Why do I need to look at a picture when her image is permanently branded in my mind
When all I have to do is close my eyes and I’ll see that perfect face, lush full l-ips and the long brown hair that distinguishes her from every other girl
I skim the picture and I was surprised at how perfect it looks.
But it isn’t as perfect as the real image

I wish my parents could be more supportive, I would have developed myself better, they should have given me the approval to create a dark room but to them, arts is not a course.
A loud consecutive knocking was heard before the door bursts open
There’s only one, sorry two people that could annoy me like that and it’s Quinton and Quentin, why bother knocking when you’re still going to burst the door open
They were chuckling before but the smile fades away when they took in my appearance
” ah Viktor you never even baff, which time we go come reach school”
Quentin shouts
” Viktor you dey craze oh, na painting you carry for hand early in the morning, Abeg go baff jare make we comot ”
Quinton’s mouth curves into an when he sees the painting
” this is f**king beautiful, but na wah for your parents oh, you get talent like this you are now wasting your life in science class ”
” it’s you that will waste your life, idiot !! ”
” but you are an idiot oh, it’s Erica you ought to paint oh, you’re now painting Sasha’
As hærd as I tried, I couldn’t quite picture Erica’s face with clarity, all I could think of was a plain dark face with a little button nose unlike Sasha that I could view all the contours of her face.
I can’t believe how fast that girl is falling for me
I can’t believe I once thought that it’s going to be hærd trying to get her to be my girlfriend
But she’s obviously not different from other girls
With just a few charming words, she is already swooning
I went to bathe and get dressed, our housekeeper did a good job, my uniform is well starched and ironed.

Why must Quentin always give me a stupid lecture, I was grateful when Quinton gives him a hærd knock on the head

Quentin tries to knock Quinton’s head and a fight almost started
” Abeg let us move 11, when Mr Sukanmi punish you for not doing your physics assignment, your brain will set ”
Quentin said

I and Quinton forcefully took Quentin’s book and copies from it
Quentin had always been the one to save our asses
The one we can always rely on to copy from.
Sometimes I wonder what I would have done without Quentin, no matter how hærd I try, physics and chemistry is not just my thing.

There was a different kind of energy in school today, people were busy whispering in groups, I decided to walk around the courtyard, I still have a few minutes left before the assembly and Shanaya and Tori hasn’t showed up, some whispered words floated across my ears.

I tried so hærd to locate the source of that voice but it is impossible, why do I have the feeling that they’re talking about me.
I feel an arm around my wa-ist and I allow myself to inhale that unique cologne, I had no idea that my eyes were shut until he spoke
“come on! Open your eyes, you’ve heard about the upcoming football competition right? ”
Wow! so that’s what the discussion is all about
” no I didn’t ”
” well there’s an upcoming football competition, I’m very sure our school is going to win since they have me! ”
He said with an undisguisable show of bravado
I’ve always thought of Viktor as proud but now I know better, he is too good at what he does
I was about to say something when I saw a very familiar old man with his walking stick
” wait for me I’m coming ”
I said to Viktor and I dashed to meet Mr Dipo
” good morning sir ”
I greeted, I can’t believe how my life would have changed if this man hadn’t stood up for me
” good morning Erica, hope everything is fine ”
” yes sir and thank you so much for the other day ”
” it’s nothing, just try to always remember the child of whom you are, don’t allow anybody to change you, and tell tell that observant young boy that I want to have a word with him ”

I turned around and I can’t find Viktor
How did he suddenly disappear
And why was Mr Dipo unable to recognize him.

Aunty Candy needs to travel today for her final year examinations.
Mom’s condition is worse to the extent that she no longer recognizes anyone, she has no present memory
I decided to come to school to tell the principal that I’m going to be absent for a while.
Even as I said the words I know they’re not really true, the truth is that I’ll have to change schools, very soon we wouldn’t be able to afford to pay the school fees, mom’s therapy has started and it costs a lot.
” I’ll inform all the teachers about your absence but you should have a word with your coach since the preparation for the competition is already going on ”

I went into have a word with coach and I meet Viktor seated there, coach was busy commending him for being the best striker in the team
” sir I wouldn’t be able to come to school for a while, there’s a situation at home that I need to resolve, I don’t know how long I’m going to be absent so you can find someone to replace me in the team”
” alright Keith Merrick, you will be replaced but I hope you’re able to resolve your family issues on time ” coach said

Viktor has a smug look on his face and I feel like punching his face
He stands up as I was about to leave and whispered in my ears

I raised my fists to punch him but I drop my hand immediately
I don’t have the right to hold on to Erica since I’m going to change schools very soon
I only hope this devil doesn’t break Erica’s heart

He made the pretense of acting scared before bursting into laughter

And I had no idea that I did not only hurt myself but hurt Erica too with the decision I made today.

I blurted out as Shanaya drops her biology notebook in front of me and I saw the score, a very big zero with eyes and ears.
” but Erica she did well, why did he score her a zero ”
Tori said, our friendsh¡p has taken a huge strain since I started hanging out with Viktor, I can’t stop wondering if I’m too selfish because of this decision.
But why the hell did the stupid biology teacher give Shanaya a zero
I scored sixty while Tori scored forty
Shanaya is better at biology than any of us!
Shanaya’s eyes flashed dangerously and she started walking out of the class
I stood up and dragged her back
” please Shany ,don’t go and meet him ehn, I’ll help you talk to him, I’m sure it’s a mistake ”
I breathed a sigh of relief her eyes went to normal, I’m as protective of Shanaya the same way I’m scared of her, I don’t want anyone finding out that she has powers
She took my pen and scribbled something in my book, my hands went to my throat as I read the words

I can’t stop wondering if Shanaya’s hatred for men is a kind of a psychological thing. I was glad when she walks to her seat, Shanaya can be so overwhelming
Tori stuffs a huge meat pie into her mouth, she was unaware of everything that’s going on
” Tori about the football competition do you also think our school is going to win ”
” of course, we have our oppa so we’re going to win but I really hate this competition period, that’s when those mean LIFEFORTE girls will come to our school and be talking nonsense ”
I know LIFEFORTE schools very well, I always see it anytime I’m coming to school, it’s bigger than STATE HIGH and I’ve often heard that it’s better than STATE HIGH but what I don’t understand is the girls business with our school
I was about to ask Tori about it when a teacher walks in and that topic was forgotten

I’ve made up my mind already, it’s not until Keith tells me before I know he doesn’t like me but a part of me will always like Keith.
I wouldn’t be able to see Viktor as often as I like, football training will commence immediately and people will not be allowed to watch.
He explains to me and I made a sad face

I denied swiftly before remembering what Mr Dipo said

His eyes blanked in confusion until he spoke
” oh! That man! He is already old that’s why his brain is not functioning well again, I’ll go and see him ”
Viktor says the most annoying of things, I’d have slapped anyone that said that about Mr Dipo but for some reason, I can’t seem to be troublesome anytime I’m around Viktor
He took a deep breath and I have the feeling that he is about to say something really important
” uh Erica, about Keith , he said he is not going to be in school for a while and he said I should tell you to move on with your life ”
I didn’t know why the words hurt!
But what else was I expecting after the way he treated me yesterday
I can’t fathom how Keith would choose to pass the message across through Viktor, it would have been better if he told me himself
” hey come on! The guy is a jerk! He isn’t worth you ”
Viktor said, he pulled me into a hug and I allowed myself to be comforted by him
” Viktor! ”
I don’t even know why my voice sounded hoarse
” Huh! You’ve given up on calling me Vikky, I don’t really mind anymore and it’s kinda cool you know! The special name that only my babe can call me ”
I didn’t know when a smile formed on my face
” Vikky I’ve realized that if I don’t need to wait for this week to end before I make up my mind, I’ve realized that you’re the one I want ”
He almost crushed me as he held me fiercely
” that’s the best news I’ve ever heard and I promise you’re not going to regret choosing me ”
I sighed against his chest, unaware of my surroundings, I know that I’ve made a good decision.

I said and he let’s go of me, his deep brown eyes staring into mine
” I hope you’re not trying to give me a scare ”
” nope! All those girls that go around talking shit about me! I don’t know how you want to do it but you must make them stop or else I’m going to take out my anger on you ”
” uh but you know that’s not possible, the girls will always talk, but just try to ignore them, they’re just jealous ”
” I’ve said my own, do something about it

He even have the nerve to chuckle
Wait! Does he think I’m joking

I smirked before telling him goodbye

To be honest, this chapter is the most hated chapter ever!
Like seriously while writing this chapter a lot of people expressed thier annoyance and I had to deal with the awful comments, some said they were done reading this story that it’s nonsense.
It really hurts to see those comments and I really felt bad
But then I realized something
This quote
” it’s amazing how hatred can easily morph into love and how love can easily morph into hatred ”
The story revolves around love and hatred which means certain characters that hates each other can end up loving each other but the most surprising thing is that this love and hatred not only revolves around the story, it even revolves around the readers mind so I realized the reason behind those awful comments
So I cheered myself up, treated myself to a very big box of chocolate and told myself
‘ girl! You’re doing well!! ”
