That song has constantly,been on repeat because it speaks to me a lot,and yeah,I won’t give up
Lizzy came the next day to cheer me on,when she heard about my condition,at first,I don’t want to see her or talk to her because,I thought she will mock me,but reverse was the case.
“Pongila,how fa” she said as she sat down on my bed.pongila was the name that was given to me due to my slim stature
“Babe,I dey o” I said as I removed my headphone from my heard.
“Sorry about your contest,the fact that you don’t win doesn’t means you are a loser,they can’t just see how unique you are”
“Yeah,thank you,,what’s popping na” I said
“Ore,nothing o,I just came to tell you to esc-rt me to this seminar,they gave me the hand bill last week”
“Oh,that,I’m not going jor,they invited me also”
“Cm on don’t be a spoil sport,you need some fresh air,and you need to kill the boredom eating you up”
“Alright,just holla me when you are going”
“It’s tomorrow nah,no prob,sha,” lizzy said
Lizzy left my house and I resumed my song again.
I had the intention of following her just to kill boredom,but then,the seminar changed my life for good.
The day for the seminar came,I went with lizzy,when we got to the venue,I saw a lot of young adults.
I wasn’t enthusiastic about it in any way,we sat down,then a young woman who should be in the her late forties,walked up to us.
She said,”I welcome everyone to this great seminar,but before we start the business of the day,let’s take our lunch,”
Just what I was expecting,because I’ve not eaten since morning,I quickly rushed to meet the caterer and requested for jollof rice and chicken,while lizzy went for fried rice.
After we are through,we went back to the hall,I was relaxed and ready to listen to their ‘sermon’,the young woman mounted the podium and started the lectures
“Whatever,you wanna become in life,you need four things to conquer all challenges,you need determination,talent,sacrifices,and commitment,in addition to that,you need a thicker skin to absorb the failures that might come your way,I personally had greater challenges,when I was growing up,I sponsored my education,my parent were nonchalant about it,but I told myself,I want to be a graduate and here I am,so ladies and gentleman,if you make use of this little advice,the sky will definitely be your starting point” she said
I was excited,just what I needed,but then it only add up to the unanswered questions I have.so during the recess period, I went to meet that lady that gave the speech in the inner-room.
When I got there,I thought she is gonna chase me away like a dog,but no,she smiled and asked me to come forth.
“Good afternoon,ma” I greeted politely
“How are you dear? You came for the seminar,right??”
“Yes,ma,but I need some answers to my question and I think,you will be in the best position,to provide answers” I said calmly
“Oh,God will use my mouth to answer your questions,so what are your question” the woman asked politely.
“Thank you ma,you said we need four things to achieve anything we want to become in life,but ma,I’ve the four things,but still I’m not anywhere close to my dreams” I explained
“If I may ask,what is your dream?”
“I’ve always wanted to be famous” I said calmly
“Oh,fame right?? So what steps have you taken concerning your quest” she asked
“Well,I recently enrolled at a dancing school,and I contested for the recent queen of trust”
“First of all,have you develop yourself??”
“Yes,ma,I’m currently learning how to dance,and I’ve a stature of a model”
“Dearie,you aint.a b-fab,right?? And modeling is a give away price,because anyone can contest once you have a nice stature,you are good to go,so count modelling out” she explained
“What’s a b-fab??”
“Born from a boom-box,it means you were born with dancing skills,my dear,if you try to learn how to dance,you might be good,but trust me,it will got to a point where your acquired skills will fail you,but if you are born with it,you will derive joy in dancing,dancing will be like a voice instill in you that need to be expressed” she explained
“Really??”
“Yes,I’m sure there will be a time when you ain’t excited to dance,but you will force yourself”
“Yes,a couple times”
“So,all you need is self-realisation,develop yourself,you need to know who you are and who you are supposed to be,develop yourself,what is that thing you derive joy doing,what’s that thing you think its fun and other thinks it’s work,what’s that thing you always smile when you are doing it??”
“I haven’t really considered that though”
“Let’s look at it this way,those that went to acting school,and they knew they ain’t gifted in it,it will get to a time,they won’t know how to express or interpret a script,maybe because their teachers didn’t teach them,but if you have natural skills,and decided to learn more about it,you will be unstoppable”
“Really?”
“Yes my dart,I want you to know,There is a talent somehow in you,it might be little,but you have to explore and make use of it,it might be a presenting work or anything,but with your natural skills,you will shine so brightly that the sun will envy you”
“Thank you ma”
“It’s nothing jor,I’m glad I helped,it all boils down to self-realisation,discover your potentials and make good use of them,I hope to see you at the top one day”
“Thank you so much ma,even though,I haven’t given up on my quest for fame,I will definitely reduce the pursuit,so that I can develop myself”
“That’s the spirit,girl,”
“I need to be on my way,I really appreciate this,thank you so much”
When I got back to the hall,I realized,the second segment of the program(talent display), was going on,a young girl was singing a melodious song.
Lizzy smiled and said ” where you go?”
“I went to see that woman that lectured us,and thanks for bringing me here,it’s a life changing experience”
“Aww,you are welcome,glad you find it inspiring”
“Yeah,a lot”
After the seminar was over,lizzy and I went back home,that seminar changed my life for good.
