GREEN EYED DEVILS
Chapter 32
LYRA
DAY 9
I stretched yawningly on the very tip of my toes. I woke up with a banging headache, it felt like I had a serious hangover at the party, my memory was hazy and painful. After my head cooled down, Xeris went military on me again so I had to train my bones for four hours. I was getting use to the knifes and pins but the rest, I pity myself.
‘Can I go eat now? I’m starving.’ I pouted, he was busy polishing his weird gun.
‘Can you cook?’
‘Is that an insult?’ He chuckled and dismissed me with a wave. I quickly left the underground room and went back upstairs, straight to the kitchen. It was 2 at noon already, I slept a lot. I turned on the gas and placed the well rinsed pot on it. I prepared extra spicy noodles and ate it while going through my social media pages.
A message from dad popped up. Do you know how weird it is to chat with your own father online? So creepy.
‘My love, you really rocked that party, didn’t you? X-Man is spoiling my baby.’
‘What are you talking about?’
‘It’s nice to know you’re living a little, drinking and twerking peoples brains off.’
‘Dad, how do you mean?’
‘Honey, check Xeris’ social media account, Xeron’s and Xena’s too.’ I quickly went to Xeris’ Instagram page first.
‘Gracious me!’ I exclaimed with wide eyes, almost knocking the food off the table. A photo of us in a serious make out was his profile picture. I scrolled down and almost fainted at the other pictures and then the videos. I was afraid because anyone could easily pin my voice, I had a one of a kind voice, one that you can identify anywhere and anytime.
‘What you doing?’ The devil cooed from behind me.
‘You got me drunk and made me do all this shit!!!’
‘It’s not shit love, you did it yourself, I didn’t force you, just played along.’
‘How many times did you k-ss me last night?’
‘Point of correction, how many times did you k-ss me last night, I lost count.’ I whimpered and face palmed myself. ‘Relax girl, there’s nothing wrong there.’
‘There is, my voice.’
‘Don’t you think it’s time you become something else other than Ruby Mask? Something more Lyra Oceans?’ He whispered into my ear, his breath fanning my left ear and neck. His hands caged me against the breakfast table, his chest only three inches away from my back. I was awfully aware of our proximity but I tried not to think about it or pay attention to my thumping heart.
‘You really think so? Being Masked gives me more fame, the curiosity and all.’
‘True, I won’t argue with that one but do you really need it? It might reduce your fame if you take it off because no one will be that curious again but can you count his many musicians wear such? I’m freaking popular and I don’t wear a mask. Lyra, delete everything that makes you her, you’re Lyra Oceans, not Ruby Mask or Milly Roe.’ I sniffed and swallowed the lump in my throat.
‘That was a great motivation speech.’
‘I know. You can also focus on your zoologist dream, put both to use.’
‘Another great ide…..your food’s getting cold.’
‘I’m hungry for something else.’
‘What is it? Let me prepare it.’ I said looking at him over my shoulder, he smirked. I realise the double meaning of his words and headbutt his face.
‘Bitch,’ he knocked my head and walked around to the other side of the table. I smiled. He took the wh0le pot and dug in, eating too fast for his own good. I watched him with a frown, especially after he snatched and ate mine too. ‘What? I’m a growing boy.’ Was all he said after eating my food.
I sighed and went to the fridge to get some milk. I was condemned to cereal.
‘You can eat bread, toast avocado.’
‘I’ll manage.’
‘Where would you like me to take you today? I’m completely free.’
‘After these photos and videos, won’t reporters be flooding your gate? Don’t you have any interview?’
‘They don’t know I live here, they won’t bug dad’s either, he’s very strict with the securities. The person I pity is Xeron, they know where his real house is. I’m avoiding everyone for now.’ I shrugged.
‘What about school? We’ve been ditching classes lately.’
‘After that mad party, no one will near that school. It’s not like I’m going because I care, I was bored but I’m not anymore, you’re here.’ I rolled my eyes and suppressed my blush. I had only a day left, I knew I had fallen for him and that scared me. What if he was only being nice and sweet because he was aiming at something? What if I was just the naive new toy of his? It was scaring me. ‘Lyra!’ He snapped. I flinched. Are you trying to drown the cereals…’ I looked at the bowl, I turned too much milk.
‘I’m sorry.’
‘Are you alright? Even at training you were distracted.’ He asked with concern. I forced a smile and nodded.
‘Can we go to the beach?’

‘Wow,’ I murmured and dropped the guitar. I tucked some loose strands of hair out of my face and chuckled nervously. ‘I’ve listened to your songs before but sitting right here and listening to it is making me uncomfortable. My heart that is.’ I confessed. He chuckled and looked at the sea.
I watched him with mouth open slightly and heart shifting gear to overdrive. He picked at a daisy where only him knew where he got it from, his eyes settled on the blue clashing water. The wind blew his hair across his face, messing up his perfect swoosh but adding s€×iness to his “to die for” face. I bit my lower lip and remembered the lyrics he sang, what if he was replying my question? I sang that intentionally. Does it mean he loves me?
Those were the questions I asked myself.
I sighed and stood up.
‘Where to?’
‘Swim,’ I skipped and dived into the sea. If there was another thing I pride myself at, it was my incredible swimming. I let the cold water soothe my mind and skin, letting all my worries go. He joined me later, tried to catch and duck me in the water but I was uncatchable.
‘Okay, you win,’ I swam to him and whirled around his shirtless body fast. ‘Show off.’ I chuckled and placed my hands on his shoulders.
‘Let’s dance.’
‘In the water? I might be a good swimmer but not a water dancer.’ He said poutingly.
‘Don’t worry, I won’t let you drown.’ I said jokingly. He chuckled and then hummed a song which we danced to before going back to shore. I was freezing, too cold. I was wearing a nylon short and a light box top. The w-t outfit exposed my b-obs and undie, I wasn’t wearing any b-ra. I crossed my arms over my chest sheepishly.
‘Here,’ he tossed me his dry yellow cap-sleeve T-shirt. ‘Wear it.’ I wore the shirt which covered my butt enough and sniffed it. His cologne was everywhere. I mo-ned as I kept sniffing, forgetting that the owner of the shirt was standing right there. ‘Ahem.’ I blushed and stopped sniffing it.
‘We should go home now.’
‘My place.’
‘Xeris, I don’t live with you and I need to check on Creamy. She’ll be worried.’
‘It’s a puppy, she don’t know anything and you said Phoebe was taking care of her for you.’
‘I know but….’
‘Shhhh,’ he sibilated. ‘Let’s go.’

I took off my slipper and flung them away. I took off Xeris’ shirt and dropped it on the bed along with my phone.
‘Lyra,’ Xeris called softly, he was at the door staring at me. He walked into the room to where I was standing at the bed and pulled me close. I puckered my l-ips in confusion. ‘Let’s stop this bet thing, I tire of it.’
‘You don’t want me anymore?’
‘Not that, I want you to be my girlfriend for real this time, no bet, no evil scheme attached,’ I smiled and twirled my hair around my finger shyly. ‘I love you Lyra, will you give me a chance to treat you better? To completely win you over?’ I encircled my hands on his neck.
‘Even as a fake boyfriend, you made me feel like the luckiest girl on earth, I don’t want to let that go.’
‘I might mess up Ly, hurt you sometimes or scare you with my dark side and maybe cheat at first, can you handle that?’
‘If you cheat on me, I’ll make your mom kill you,’ I threatened seriously. ‘I know you won’t cheat, you might think you will but you won’t. Even if you do, as long as you confess. A relationsh¡p built on trust is the strongest one, your mom told me that.’ He smiled and nodded.
‘I promise to be honest, no lies because even if I lie, you’ll still be stuck with me.’ He said confidently, that might be true. My finger moved in a circular motion at the nape of his neck. I smiled and k-ssed him, standing on my toes to reach him.
He k-ssed me back with much more hunger than I expected, pushing me back carefully until my back was resting on the bed. I obliged to his demand and let him take off the box top, thereby giving him full access to my neck and chest area. He wasted no time in burning my skin with the k-ss of his l-ips and bites. I’d never been so excited in such a way I crazed for more like an addict. His fire lashed on my tits, not sparing an single part of it.
My phone rang loudly, causing a loud piercing sound to interrupt us.
‘Not again!’ He cried. He took the phone and answered it. ‘Lyle, can you call back later, she’s busy…..none of your business, bye.’ He hung up, switched off the phone and threw it away. No more interruptions.
# LAKE (Lyra’s dad)
Phoebe laughed as the dog licked her face, her perky grin making my heart skip. She said she broke up with Ernest, I wanted to give her time first before making any move on her. Lyra was fine with it, Lyle don’t really care one bit and mother liked her. What else did I need?
‘That was fun, right baby?’ She cooed.
‘Phoebe, can you make dinner? It seems like Lyra isn’t returning today as well.’
‘She’s growing up.’
‘Yeah, too fast.’ I sighed.
‘What do you want for dinner?’
‘Anything.’ I jogged up out of the living room to the stairs and then my room. ‘My God!!!’ I shouted in fright, a distorted corpse laid on my bed, one that had rotten a long time ago. Flies, worms and ants surrounded it. The room smelled badly, I retched, feeling dizzy. Above the bed, a picture of Phoebe was marked with an X, blood used as paint.
“Your beautiful Milly’s corpse, isn’t she gorgeous? I’m back Lake, be ready to see your new sweetheart this way.” Was written below the picture. My heart thumped in fear, he’s still alive!
‘Oh my God!’ Phoebe exclaimed. I looked at the picture of Lyra pinned to the headboard with a knife, blood running down to the bed.
Not him again.
