HATRED ON A GIRL CHILD EPISODE 19 Ben was up in his arms because Victory, my daughter was doing well in her academics and also won a competition that made her famous in her school. He flôgged his son mercilessly because he wasn’t doing well. In his words, he said to his son ” All you know is to eat, y1ou don’t study”. He continued flógging his son until his wife came back. His wife started a fíght immediately with him in front of his son. Ben started bashing his wife with the whip and his wife was screaming. His son stood up instantly from the floor and bite her dad’s fingers and blood was gushing out effusively. His middle finger was nearly bitten off by his son. He left his wife on the floor and bashed out. He left for the hospital and unfortunately, the middle finger fell off before he got to the hospital. I wasn’t bothered when his friend who visited was narrating this to me. “I thought he was looking for a male child,” I said while chuckling. “Stop saying that Mezuo, he is still your husband” Daniel, Ben’s friend muttered. “Stop saying what exactly?” I retorted “I had passed through a lot and this is my time to laugh” Daniel was wreathed in smiles as he went to his boot and brought out some foodstuffs. My jaw dropped when he said that he brought those foodstuffs for me. “You’re joking right” I uttered in amazement. “No!, it’s all yours” he replied. I couldn’t hide the joy in my heart when I hugged him fervently. He was so happy too. “I have to go now,” Daniel said with a cool melodious voice. “Won’t you at least eat something?” I asked him. ” No! I will eat when next time I come” he replied as he gave me a huge amount of money. I was taken unawares ” Come you need another hug Nwokeoma!” I approached him towards his car and embraced him again!. His face was filled with great smiles and I immediately foresaw that he had an affection for me… I waved to him as he drove off. When my daughter came back, she was astonished because she didn’t see these foodstuffs before going to school only to come back and see loads of foodstuffs. “Mummy who brought these foodstuffs?” She queried me while I was undressing her. “My friend” I answered with fear as though I haven’t told her anything about her dad. “Which of your friends? ” She asked again. “You don’t know him, he resides in Lagos” I replied…. “God bless him,” she said, “I am hoping to go to Lagos someday”. “Amen, you will” I uttered and smiled broadly. My daughter was elated because she likes Noddles so much and she was lucky to have its full carton now…. I was also happy because we can now feed well and eat three or more square meals daily. Ten years later, I was 40 years old and Victory was 15. Daniel was still visiting us and each time he visits, he showers us with lots of gifts and we were living happily. One day, my daughter who was in SS 1 came back from school and told me that she was asked to represent her school in a debate competition hosted by the Abia State Government on the caption “GENDER DISCRIMINATION”. She was nervous at first but I motivated her not t1o be fragile and she listened carefully to my tips. It Victory read endlessly and made a lot of intensive researches. On the day of the debate, I prayed for her and assured her to stick by her name that she must be victorious. She smiled brightly and pecked me on my left cheek. Then she whispered to my ear, I will surely make you proud and ran out. Fortunately, victory won the debate competition and ruled Abia state as a Governor for a day. Her thoughts on Gender discrimination were published in newspapers and magazines. Ben watched the daughter he rejected on the Television bearing the name of my late father as her surname and he sighed in grief. FINAL EPISODE Ben was watching Victory on his television set in bewilderment. He was sighing in grief and his face was sombrous as though he was regretting. He bite his lips countless times expressing that he was indeed unhappy. His son wasn’t impressing him. His son was regarded as a bad boy in school then. He usually beat his teachers and classmates which led him to be suspended numerous times. His wife on the other hand supported his son in all he did. Miriam would always call on her son to beat her husband when they had a heated argument. Ben was tired of all that was happening. He overlooked some things that needed to be examined in other not to be beaten to stupor by his son. Three years later, my daughter was already studying law at the University of Ibadan–where we relocated. Ben’s son was also studying Biology at the University of Lagos. victory was on scholarship as we didn’t pay any dime. She only worked very hard and passed her ᴘᴏsᴛ ᴜᴛᴍᴇ. She was iconic in her school because of her masterpiece on ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ ᴅɪsᴄʀɪᴍɪɴᴀᴛɪᴏɴ which was published in magazines and newspapers. She was also interviewed by some radio and television stations. Verily, she made a huge amount of money from that. Ben was fed up with the back teeth with all the circ-mstances he was battling. He invited Ezinne her sister who had graduated to help him in the battle when his son had left for school. She came as though her gloves were off. Ezinne and Miriam were fíghting daily like cat and dog. Ezinne was beating Miriam to stupor each day the quarrel –Miriam was no match to Ezinne as regards fíghting. Ben would always laugh at his wife who had been held on the ground by his sister. One day, after Miriam had been beaten black and blue by her sister-in-law, she called her son who was one of the deadliest cultists in his school then. She narrated everything that happened to him. A few hours later, her son showed up with his men all armed. He assásinated Ben and Ezinne – they were both shót on their foreheads. They were buried in a shallowed grave and no one saw them. Miriam and her son sold off Ben’s properties and relocated to Abuja. Her son and his gangs started robbing banks and abducting the wards of prominent men in Lagos and Abuja. Unfortunately, he was kílled while robbing. He was shót severely by the police. Their house which they built in Abuja was seized and Miriam had no option other than to start próstitution – which she is still doing. Some years later, my daughter was called to the bar. She is presently a Judge in the Supreme Court of Nigeria. I and my daughter are now living happily and peacefully. {ᴛʜᴇ ᴇɴᴅ} Dear Men, we should always accept any child being birthed to us; children are blessing irrespective of gender.
