I didn’t wanna miss this opportunity, I’m already half way through this and I can’t afford to back out now.

I called the hospital and luckily for me, the doctor picked up.

I heaved a sigh of relief before making to talk on the phone.

“Yes doctor? What is it? ” I asked him.

“It’s nothing serious so don’t worry, it’s just Caden and the school here, they came to visit Cody ” the doc said over the phone.

“Oh! I’m afraid I can’t make it there now, I have somewhere important to be ” I told him.

“Alright, I’ll tell them that ” he said.

“Thank you ” I told him and hanged up.

Phew! I almost vomited out my heart.

I glanced at Bryan and he looked away.

So weird!

We arrived at the company, alighted from the cab and went in,side the building.

Twas just few cooks present and I presumed they were the winners in their group and we gonna be competing against ourselves.

Bryan and I found a seat for ourselves and sat, waiting for them to tell us why we were called here.

We were expecting the female speaker as usual but it was just an electronic device displaying the announcement.

The finale will be on Friday cause it was stated that we’re not only gonna make one dish but two! And they’re giving us Thursday to go prepare cause it’s not gonna be easy.

It’s not gonna be easy but it would be done and that too, by me.

Twas time for us to leave so Bryan and I got up to leave but we waited when we noticed Luca coming towards us.

He got to us and stood in front of us.

“Looking forward to see you win ” he said and that made me smile like an idiot.

My Luca is hoping and trusting on me, he’s talking to me now with a cool charming voice.

I noticed the way Bryan was glaring at him so I nudged Bryan gently on the arm so he’d stop doing that.

Bryan got upset and walked away but Luca seemed to care less.

“Luca! ” A feminine voice scre-med and we had to check out who it was.

Luca seemed shocked at first before the girl came jumping into his arms.

“Riley ” Luca called as he pulled away from the big hug the girl gave him.

“Yep! You’re happy right?” she asked.

“Yeah yeah sure ” Luca blurted out as if forcefully.

She sighted me and threw me a deadly glare.

Srsly? She’s making that rude face at me?

Judging from her looks, she seems like baaaaad news.

Her aura so bad I can sense it, eww!

“who’s she? ” she asked Luca and Luca glanced at me.

“Uh… “Luca stuttered.

“I knew it! She’s one of those cheap girls who throw themselves at rich guys like you for money ” she blurted out and I kinda like choked on my saliva cause I started coughing.

“What? You think you can sed-ce him and take his money huh? I know how to deal with girls like you” she snapped.

“Woah Woah Woah! Bish you’ve been yapping nonentity nonstop, please stop and catch your breath ” I told her and she gasped.

“What the hell? Did you just talk back at me? ” she asked and I scoffed.

“I don’t see any senseless bish here apart from you ” I told her with a calm voice.

Luca was flushed as he stared at me.

“You’re gonna… ”

“Oh please! I have important things to do than listen to some meaningless crap that comes outta your mouth! Bye Luca ” I told him and cat walked out.

God! I just called Luca by his name, hope he doesn’t disqualify me cause of that cause he can be so crazy sometimes.

I flinched a little when I saw Bryan waiting downstairs for me.

“I thought you left! ” I told him.

“Well I did and this is my ghost waiting out here for ya ” he blurted out and I rolled my eyes.

But he talked to me at least.

“Nice thing you did up there ” he told me as we boarded a taxi.

“What thing ” I asked him.

“You handling that girl ” he said and I let out a soft “oh”.

“You were there? ” I asked him.

“Yeah I was taking a peek from afar ” he let out.

“Why were you acting up today though? “I asked him.

“Uhhh… It’s nothing ” he said but it was obvious to me that he was lying.

“it’s either you talk or get fired ” I threatened him and he chuckled making me smile.

“Well, I just noticed you’re fond of Luca, you like him ” he said.

“So? ” I asked, confused.

“Luca is not a good person! And I’m 100% sure that he’s not the ideal guy for ya ” he blurted out.

“O.. K? But why do you care? It’s not like Luca and I are gonna have a chance together ” I told him.

“Because I’m your friend so I care! ” he snapped.

Alright Mr friend, I’mma be careful ” I told him.

“I just don’t want you to get hurt ” he said and I smiled and patted him on the shoulder.

“I will. BTW, do you know who that girl is? The one who was with Luca and was yapping shit to me ” I asked him.

“I don’t but I’m guessing she’s Luca’s girlfriend ” he blurted out.

“WTF?! She might be his sister too, duh ” I told him and he gave me a look that says “what did I just tell ya “, I chuckled and raised a hand up and said “fine, I’ll be careful not to get hurt “.

I was so surprised at Amy, didn’t know she talked so much and she was that savage.

Wow, guess she only acts dumb in front of me but dang! I was there while she savaged Riley.

“Who’s she ?” Riley asked again as we headed to my office.

“She’s human ” I replied her and she got more furious.

“What the hell is wrong with you? Tell me who the hell she is now! ” she yelled.

And this is typical Riley, short tempered and never able to control herself, so annoying.

She’s lucky she’s one of my favorite humans else I’d not put up with her shit.

“Fine! Remember the competition I talked to you about? She’s one of the competitors ” I told her.

“OK so she’s a cook” she said and I nodded.

“What’s the name of her resto ” she asked are I raised an eyebrow.

“why do you care? ” I asked.

Riley can be nasty at times and do stupid things all the times so I don’t know what’s going on in that dumb head of hers.

“Nothing, I was just curious ”

“I’m not telling you ” I told her.

I don’t even know why she came back from the the states, she should have just stayed there forever.

Don’t even know how I met this kinda human in my life!

“Please….. Please tell me Luca ” she pleaded with puppy eyes, coming closer to me.

“Tell me?” she said softly, gently car-ssing my hair down to my shoulder.

I held her hands and gently than ever, I dropped it off.

“I have somewhere important to be ” I told her and left the office.

Luca left and I furiously hit my fist on the table.

Ouch! That hurts!

I sighted his laptop and went over the table to sit on the chair.

The laptop was locked but I know his password of course.

“Lurica” A combo of my name and Luca’s.

I typed in the password and smiled deviously when the laptop was unlocked.

After months, Luca still haven’t changed the password which means it’s still just me and no other girl.

I just have to check out all the competitors that were present today and thank God their pictures are being displayed.

I scrolled through them and I smiled more when I saw that arrogant bitch that disrespected me.

Amy Caesar!

I tapped on her profile and all her details were out.

Let’s see if you gonna win this competition and let’s see if you’d ever be able to mess with me ever again.

I plumped down on the couch and heaved a sigh of relief.

I had just come back from the resto and I’m tired as hell.

I asked Caden to go get me water and he left to get it.

He came back with a bottle of water and a glass and handed it to me.

I took it and poured myself a glass of chilled water.

I gulped it down and felt the chills down my throat to my chest, that’s more like it.

Caden sat down beside me and started telling me what happened at the hospital, how the school came with flowers and teddy bears for Cody blah blah.

I was so tired so I told him that after the competition tomorrow, we’ll go visit Cody at the hospital.

We went upstairs and I tidied him up before making him wear his pyjamas.

I tidied myself up, put on my pajamas and went downstairs to microwave the food I brought from the resto.

I was done so I served ourselves and we ate.

After eating, I helped Caden with his homework before we both crashed on the bed and slept off.

It was morning and my usual time to wake up but I decided to sleep a little longer cause today is all about preparing for the competition.

After sleeping for a while more, I got up and started attending to Caden.

I got him ready for school, made him breakfast and he left in the school bus.

I did my morning routine, ate and went to the resto.

“Do you even sleep “I asked Bryan as I went to him over the credenza.

“Yep! I have my own morning routine and it’s not yada yada like yours “he yapped and I scoffed.

If only he knows how much of a stress my morning routine is, I’m sure he’d have broken a bone in,side him.

“What are you thinking about? ” he asked when I didn’t respond to him.

“Everything except you ” I told him and he chuckled.

“Oh please, you think about me all the time! Before you sleep, when you wake up, when you eat, when you b…..”

“Oh please Bryan! I have lotta things to do and listening to your bullshit ain’t part of them ” I interrupted him.

“Now let’s talk about the competition ” I told him.

“We don’t know what dish or dishes they gonna make us prepare but I’m sure as hell it’s not gonna be easy ” he said.

“What am I even saying? Even the dish we were asked to prepare in the first stage wasn’t at all easy and the finale is gonna be? Hell no! It’d be hærd as hell ” he concluded and I chuckled.

“Is someone scared? ” I teased him.

“You could do something better with the time you’re wasting to tease me. Keep teasing me and you’ll find yourself at the competition unprepared ” he told me and I hate to admit it but he was right.

I rolled my eyes and got myself a juice to chill off.

“OK so I’m gonna research about the difficult dishes to prepare and the most likely ones to come out in a competition ” I told Bryan.

“And I’ll handle the resto like the owner ” he said and I rolled my eyes.

“Try any shit and I deduct from your salary ” I stated and he chuckled.

I already started paying Bryan, I started paying him on Monday so he’s officially my employee, a dumb one though.

I started my research and let Bryan handle the resto.

I found some dishes that are likely to come out in the competition so Bryan and I spent hours practicing them.

We made sure to write down the recipes of those we don’t know and we tried making some and trust me, it was tasty 😋.

We are sure gonna win this competition.

We switched the sign board to closed cause we needed to prepare for the competition.

We spent the wh0le day learning about new dishes and recipes, cooking and eating and it was so fun.

It was time for us to close so we decided to take home the dishes we made.

It was a lot so Bryan and I shared it and though I knew so well Caden and I won’t be able to finish it all, I was gonna give some to Mrs Morg-n.

We left the resto after tidying it up of course.

And yeah, we closed early cause I promised Caden that we’d go see Cody at the hospital.

Caden wants me to see the gifts given to Cody by his class mates so he’d take some of the gifts hehehehe.

I arrived home and Caden was so happy I kept to my words by coming home early.

We did our thingy, dressed up and ate.

I took some of the food I had brought home and took it to Mrs Morg-n’s house.

I stood at the porch and rang the door bell.

Cindy opened the door and as usual, she had that grumpy expression she never fails to wipe off her face on.

“Are you gonna let me in or just keep staring at me?” I asked her.

She rolled her eyes and moved aside for me to go in.

I went in,side and Mrs Morg-n was on the couch, watching TV.

“Hey Amy ” she said with a smile.

“I brought you these ” I told her, stretching forth the food I had with me.

“Cindy take it from her ” she told her daughter.

She gave me a glare before taking it from my hands.

So grumpy! I’mma teach her a lesson one day, we are age mates but I ain’t crazy like her.

“Thank you so much Amy ” Mrs Morg-n said and I smiled at her.

“Bitch! ” I whispered to Cindy before leaving their house.

Caden and I boarded the bus to the hospital and after some minutes, we arrived at the hospital and went in.

There were flowers and teddy bears and chocolates and books, pens and pencils and lotta children thingy.

“When is Cody waking up? ” Caden asked in that tiny voice of his and I sighed.

I sat beside Cody and gently m-ssaged his head.

“Soon, he’s gonna wake up soon ” I told Caden with a smile and he smiled back.

“Are we taking the gifts home? ” Caden asked and I chuckled.

“The chocolates, books, pens and pencils and and every other thing yeah but not the flowers and the teddy bears but we only gonna leave one teddy bear here ” I told Caden and he jumped in joy.

We left after taking the gifts and leaving the flowers and a teddy bear and the letters they wrote for him to recover soon.

We arrived home, changed into our night wears and went to bed.

I woke up the next day and got Caden ready for school.

He ate and left in the bus.

I freshened up, dressed appropriately, ate and went to the resto to pick up Bryan.

It’s Friday and it’s the competition today.

Bryan and I re-memorized everything about the new dishes we found, motivated ourselves before boarding a taxi to the company.

We arrived there, took deep breaths and entered the company.

We the competitors were like 10 yeah, meaning there were 10 groups.

We took our seats as usual before the speaker asked us to take our positions in the kitchen.

As we headed to the kitchen, that girl that came to Luca the other day, what’s her name again? Uhmmm Riley! Yeah Riley!

She came towards us so we stopped on our track.

“Good luck” she said with a smirk before swooping pass us.

Tch! Bryan and I rolled our eyes and went to the kitchen.

“So here’s the first dish y’all gonna prepare ” the speaker started.

My heart started beating but I had to be brave.

My eyes which I had closed tight flung open at the mention of the dish we were gonna make.

“OMG! That’s one of the dishes we learned yesterday ” I told Bryan.

“Yeah, lucky us ” Bryan said and we chuckled.

“Now y’all grab your basket and go for your recipes ” the speaker said.

Bryan and I immediately grabbed every recipes we needed and rushed back to the kitchen.

Some of the cooks were surprised that we got everything we wanted so fast while some were even starting to make the dish.

We switched on the gas, got our pot and vegetables and got to work.

This was easy cause Bryan and I already made this dish yesterday.

“Get the dishes ” I told Bryan.

I served the dishes and I smiled at Bryan cause we were done.

“Few more seconds until it’s over ” Bryan said and I nodded.

Someone tapped me on the shoulder and I flinched a little.

I turned and saw Riley.

“What do you want ” I asked her and she smirked.

I’m sure they can see her, right?

“Oh C’mon, I just wanted to lend a helping hand” she blurted out.

Yeah we can work in groups, some of the cooks are with 2 to 3 assistance so I guess they’re not stopping her cause of that.

She took slow steps, checking out our food.

She faced us, her back to the food and blabbed.

“1o…9….8….7…..6….5…4…3…2..1…0.. Stop “The speaker counted down.

“Move! ” I yanked Riley away from the dish we served cause it was time for us to serve the judges.

We lined up according to your numbers and I was number 3 to go.

The dishes were lined up in a tray by me.

The judges seemed to have enjoyed the food of number 1 and 2 cook and now it’s out turn.

We placed a dish in front of every judge with a smile.

When the first judge tasted our food, he spat it out, coughing and immediately drank the glass of water that was in front of him.

Bryan and I were confused whether or not it was cause of our food or he just wanted to cough.

The other judges hesitated before tasting the food and when they did, they spat it out the same way the first judge did.

Only Luca swallowed it and I saw how he struggled to swallow the small quantity of food he put in his mouth.

But Bryan and I tasted it, it was good.

I was starting to get worried but Bryan held my hand and asked me to calm down.

We took deep breaths and watched as other cooks presented their food.

It was time to announce the winners of the first round.

Did I forget to mention it was a two round thingy? And only the first 3 would make it to the second round? Well it is so.

They’re only gonna call out three winners from this round.

My heart pounded hærd as the speaker made to call out the winners.

The first person Larry Arnold was called out.

OK it wasn’t me but I might be the second.

The second Erica Gusta was called out and I felt a wind of dizziness almost swiping me off my feet but Bryan noticed it all and he held me tight.

My heart pounded hærd for the last winner.

“Emilia Hana ” the speaker blurted out.

OK, I think I’m gonna loose it.

I saw the disappointment on Luca’s face and I myself was loosing it.

“The rest are disqualified, I’m afraid this is your last bustop ” the speaker said.

We are disqualified? But why? The food tasted good so what happened?

There must be some kinda misunderstanding, something is just not right.

I looked at Luca hoping he’d help like he did but he just looked away.

I can’t believe this.
