CHAPTER ONE: SKYLAR CRESCENT..

I hate Mondays and you know what I hate about Mondays?
The answer is work.

Not that I actually don’t like Mondays that much, neither is it because I’m too lazy to attend works, no. Don’t get me wrong.

Holding a PhD of medical level, now hired to work as a psychiatrist for some kind of psycho patient who was just arrested two weeks ago.

Especially when it turns out that you’re patient is the world’s most wanted. Yes, of course that’s who he is, Californian’s most wanted serial killer.

Not two days ago, I had a phone call from Doctor Ivan, chief doctor of Van Nuys psychiatric hospital downtown asking for my help. At first, I had to think for what took like an hour before I could finally give an answer to his request.

Actually, this isn’t the first invitation I’ve received, they’re basically a lot of them which I have rejected for one reason or the other. Which some of them, most of them are actually lies. Truth be told. But this, I really don’t know what other lie to tell him which I ended up saying a ‘yes’ to him.

Not very smart, I know. Because now, I’ll be spending most of my time at Van Nuys hospital and the rest of them at my hospital, then little or no part of my time on my bed. That’s definitely unfair, you know that.

I sighed looking at myself at the mirror for the last check-up on my outfit and the light make-up I wore. I’ll skip the rest of the details or maybe you can fill in the blank.

Not really necessary, tho.

Stopping at the parking lot, I took my bag which contained everything I needed for my patient, making my way to the big building.

The hospital looked amazing but… pretty much for a prison yard. Maybe they’d only built it for people like my patient who can go extra mile doing something worst.

As soon as I got to the entrance glass door, a lady ushered me in. I followed her to a room with a middle aged man which I guess was Doctor Ivan.

Yeah, I’ve heard about him, a lot. Talked to him once but have never gotten the chance to see him until now. Right here, it’s me standing just in front of him.

He smiled, which I did the same. He pointed at a couch for me to sit which I sat down on. He went ahead bringing out a brown envelope, handing it to me. I opened it, reading through the files while he was making an oral explanation of what was contained in it.

“That’s Logan Greene. He was admitted here two days after he was arrested. He was confirmed for having some mental health. We worked on getting him a personal doctor who actually didn’t last for a month. ”

” Because of his mental state? ” I asked, just to be sure.

” Didn’t say. She only reported for being fade up of taking care of him for reasons I wish I know. ” Now, he was looking directly at me. ” Doctor Crescent, I wish you can get this fixed as soon as possible so we can get him to where he belongs. ” He said in a manner I will emphasize to be pitiful or something… much better not to be phrase on.

Speaking of where he belongs, oh! yeah. That’s prison.

“You don’t have to worry, Doctor Ivan, I’ll have this under my control. I’ll do whatever it takes to have this done. You can trust me on this. ” I assured him with a soft smile played on my face.

” Thank you, ” he gratefully said.

Just then, a young lady walked in, same figure, same height as the lady who had escorted me earlier.

“Doctor Crescent, meet Leah. Leah, this is Doctor Ivan. ” He introduced.

Like he had known I wasn’t really in the mood for the long introduction and I’m really thankful for that.

“She’ll be showing you to your patient’s room. You can lay your complaint to her, we’ll get those solved as soon as possible. Once again, it’s a great pleasure to have you here, Doctor Crescent. ”

” It’s my pleasure to be here. “I said, going for the handshake.

Leah looked at me with a smile, ” Doctor Crescent, please follow me.”

I followed her till we got to a point we had to make a left turn with several right turns until we are standing at a door different from the rest of other doors.

Leah pressed a button which automatically, the door opened. We walked into this white filled room and my eyes couldn’t stop from glaring at every sides of the room. I was still staring when my eyes met with a figure.

He was still having a press-up exercise like he hadn’t noticed us enter. He finally stood up, taking his towel from where he hung it, then turning to look at us.

I glanced at his face. His blue eyes might have looked like a shooting dagger in anyone’s eyes, right now they looked warm and innocent to me.

Maybe, that’s all because he is stucked in a β€˜goddamn hospital prison. ’

Logan Greene’s skin was a rich fair skin that illuminated by the reflection of the sun , almost had a sparkling glow on it. His dark hair was incredibly curly but just half for a bro flow haircut.

“Mr Greene, this is Doctor Crescent, she’ll be your new personal doctor from now.

She’ll be attending to your treatments. I hope you accept her. ”

He said nothing but kept glaring at me, still with his towel drying his soaked skin. I felt my skin tingle under his intent gaze as he looked me over from head to toe. I crossed my arms before my chest and tried to hold his gaze as long as possible.

Surprisingly, he was the first to look away, not because I made him, but because Leah had to whisper something to me which he apparently lost interest in.

“He’s never the talking type and that’s why Doctor Tate had to resign.” She told me.

“Don’t worry, I know how to make my patients talk. ” I said with a soft smile.

She nodded a thank you before she left, leaving me with the mysterious Logan Greene.

I took the stool which was behind the bed, adjusting myself on it. He was already sitting on his bed, now on an ash shirt which didn’t totally hid his features.

I took out my jotter and my pen from my bag ready for the hΓ¦rd ‘ question-and-answer moment ‘ with him.

“So, Mr Greene,” I started, looking at his files and my jotter at the same time. “Your psycho issues started two days after you were caught, am I right? ”

” That’s what they think. ” He said in a less concerned manner.

Speaking of the devil, did he just talked?

” I heard about your previous doctor, you weren’t really in good terms with her and… you basically haven’t talked to her for once. You didn’t hesitate to reply back, why? ”

He said nothing but smirked.

I took my eyes off, staring back at his files for the next question.

“Do you take cocaines? ” I asked, filling his answers into my book.

” Yes, ” he plainly said.

” Do you… smoke? Like, you’re addicted to hΓ¦rd drugs?” I said which almost sounded like a question.

” I won’t doubt that.”

“Hmm.” I hummed. “So, I’ll be giving you some anxiolytics to calm your brain nerves. I should have asked, how long have you been having this anxieties? ”

” Two weeks? ” He said glancing at me. I tried not to feel shy over it. But damn, those gaze got my ass sweaty.

“Okay.” I tied a string on his elbow. Searching for his veins weren’t difficult, he had them fully surfaced on his skin, so, I went ahead injecting the anxiolytics in him.

After I was done with the wh0le stuffs which I’m sure didn’t take less than an hour, I prescribed some drugs to him which he ought to take tonight and tomorrow morning.

All the while, all he did was stare at me like I’ve got some f-cking garbage on my hair. I got uncomfortable each seconds and I wanted every chance to leave the room like hell mad!

CHAPTER TWO:

Skylar πŸ–ŠοΈ

I pressed the button to the door and it opened. This time, he was lying on his bed, one of his hand rested to the back of his head and the other covered his eyes.

“Good morning,” I greeted him but he ignored me.

He sat up while I went for the stool beside the bed. ” How are you feeling?”

He made no comment.

He acted like I wasn’t even talking to myself. And you know what? It’s a lot better when you talk to yourself than when you’re made to look like you weren’t actually talking to anyone, not even to yourself.

Today, I decided running a test on his blood for a check up before I could think of prescribing anyother drugs to him.

According to Doctor Ivan, Logan’s anxiety attack was like a nightmare, especially at night.

“Did you have any panic attack last night?”

For damn sake, he just ignored me for the third time.

” Mr Greene, I believe you can talk and if you really want us to get through with this, you have to at least reply my questions. You can’t have me look like a full all day. ”

He was quite.

I tried not to bother if he actually talked to me or not. After all, it made things a little quicker for me. Unlike yesterday when he had to stare at me like a crazy clawn.

I quickly exited the room, heading to the parking lot and making my way to my hospital.

Lucky me, I had nothing much to do.

I sat on my seat, going through his files, sipping on my coffee I had bought from the Cafe downtown. I gulped it down not minding the hotness.

I scrolled down, learning more about him I hadn’t know. Yes, I’ve heard much about him, maybe just not enough to know how much he had killed for.

According to his report, the total count of his victims were about a thousand and the total count of his victims per day were not less than ten.

But why?’ I asked myself, “why would someone be so heartless to have thousand blood stained on his hands, yet found it so enticing to do more? ”

I hadn’t know I had fallen asleep until when Vera woke me up.

“How long have I been asleep?” I asked, yarning.

” Two hours, I guess. ” She said with a grin, trying to prevent herself from laughing.

” I shouldn’t be sleeping. ”

” C’mon Skylar, give yourself some break.”

“I know but not now. I’ve got a lot to work on. ”

” Talking about your new patient? ”

I signed. ” It’s so hΓ¦rd for me to cope up with my work and working as a psychiatrist. I don’t even have enough sleep anymore. Vera, I’m f-cking tired. ”

” Then you need some rest. ”

” Doctor Ivan wants me to work on his treatment as fast as possible so he can return back to prison. Couple with the fact that his acting dumb, everything seems so stressful. I want to be on bed resting for eternity but I don’t think I can ever have such time until everything is back to balance. ”

She nodded in agreement. ” But you know, it still baffles me to know that you’re treating a serial killer. Why is he still alive at the first place? He’s better off being dead.”

She’s right. It’s kinda crazily insane to have accepted Doctor Ivan’s request at the first place. He should be dead, just like he killed people.

” What about Tony? ” I asked changing the conversation. ” How is he? ”

” Tony is fine. He even asked of you. ”

” Really? ” I blushed, smiling. ” He called? ”

” Yeah, minutes ago. He also wants to see me today.”

“So, what are you doing here?! ” I yelled at her playfully.

” Chill Skylar, I came to check on you. ”

” And I really appreciate your concern. Now, can you get out of here? ”

” Okay. Okay. ” She said in a surrendering way. She leaned over placing a k-ss on my forehead.

“Don’t forget to give me every details.”

“Every details. Bye.” She said rushing out of my office.

I couldn’t stop from laughing. Vera is your typical girl you will always want to have around. She was funny, jovial and funny at times. We were like sisters, and if not of our last name difference, people could have mistook us to be real sisters.

Back to business, I went on checking on his files. Scrolling down, more and more, I learnt. But then, my eyes caught up with something.

Something I would say I shouldn’t have came across. Don’t blame me, I’m only doing my job.

I slammed my laptop, heading back to Van Nuys and of course, all eyes were on me like ‘whats she doing here? ‘

Who cares?

I impatiently, or I’d rather say I angrily pressed the button. As if the door read my mind, it opened faster.

Not minding if he was in or not, I spat the words out. “You’re not suffering from an anxiety attack and there is nothing wrong with your brain. All these are nothing but acts of pretence, right? ”

At first his face wore a surprise look, it later wore off to his shooting dagger stare.

I walked more closer to his bed, “I’m talking to you!”

He sat er-ct, giving me this hΓ¦rd stare. Right now, it doesn’t matter how scary they were, does it?

“Have you been going through my files again? ” He asked instead.

I furrowed my brow in annoyance. ” Answer my question!” I snapped.

“You wanna know about me? You’re wasting your time. I already told you, having a psycho problem, is what they think. ” He stood up, walking more closer than I had walked to him. I made a step backwards. “If you wanna stay alive and keep breathing, you better a t like you never found a thing. ”

” Are you… threatening me? ”

” I’m warning you. ”
