CHAPTER 35

“Thanks for letting me stay” she said
“Don’t say thanks again, I should be the one thanking you for staying Val” he said and tightened the hug
She smiled, taking in her l-ips and $ucking on them
He later stood and she did the same
“Have you eaten?” She asked
“Nope” he replied…
“Cos of what happened?,”.
“Sure, didn’t you see the way the ba$tard who calls himself my dad was trying to be me? ” He said
” Yeah, and I’m sorry about that” she replied
*Stop saying sorry at everything” he said
“I just can’t help it” she replied
“Retarded” he said
“I’ve come to love that name” she replied
“Grumpy Bear… It sounds like the best name I’ve ever heard too” he replied..
” So show me your kitchen, I’ll cook something” she said
” Really?, You can cook? ” He asked
” Of course, but only noodles” she winked
He smiled and held her hand, leading her to the kitchen
“How spacious” she said when they got there
“I know, so miss noodles, cook something before I starve till death” he said, letting her go
She got four packs of noodles from the top cupboard and then placed water on the cooker, she waited for it to boil before pouring in the noodles
Dwayne watched from behind althrough and just kept smiling while s-cking on his swollen l-ips
She finished the cooking in about ten minutes and dished the hot noodles
She took it to the dinning and they both sat
“You aren’t gonna eat with me?” He asked
“No I’m full” she replied
” If you aren’t eating with me, then I’m not eating” he replied
” Dwayne…
“I can’t eat alone when you’re here” he said
She smiled and picked a fork
” Ok fine, let’s eat” she said
He smiled and picked a fork too and they ate together till they finished everything before dropping the forks
“It was delicious” he said
“Stop trying to make me feel better, that wasn’t close to delicious” she replied
” Trust me I’m serious…. You really know how to cook noodles” he replied and they both laughed
He suddenly held her hand and took her upstairs to show her to the various rooms in there
Apart from his room, there are three other rooms and the study
“Why do you need a study room when you don’t read?” She asked
“I dunno, not like I know I won’t be a fan of reading anyways” he replied
She smiled as they entered his room, still holding hands
” You’re handsome” she said, staring at his pictures on the wall
” Those are the pictures I took when my mum was still alive, I was one happy guy back then, I never knew I’ll find happiness again till I met you… Val you’re the most important person in my life right now and….. I…
“You what?” She asked impatiently
“I don’t want you to leave me” he replied, changing what he really wants to say
She smiled and held his hand tight
“Sure, friends don’t leave each other” she replied

“Thanks for the visit anyways” Sally said on phone, actually speaking with Leo
“Thanks for eating lunch with me, with you it was delicious” he replied
She smiled and went silent
” Why aren’t you talking?” Leo asked
“I dunno what to say” she replied
” Oh…. alright, I’ll come see you tomorrow too” he replied
“Tomorrow is Saturday, I’m not going to work, and my boss will be coming back too” she replied
” Then I’ll come and meet you at your house” he replied
” no, not yet” she replied
” Then till when?” He asked
” Till when I say you can come” she replied
“Ok… we’ll see then”
” Bye!”
” Bye”
She hung up and smiled deeply, staring at his contact on her phone
“I know what you’re up to” she said
Next morning**
Valerie woke up in Dwayne’s arms and can’t help but smile and feel much happiness
Yeah, it’s really a dream come true
She remembered the countless ksses last night and started blushing, for the fact that Dwayne actually kssed her for more than four long times
She took in her lip fondly
“But we’re now on holiday, how will I see him everyday again?” She thought
” I can always come here” she thought again
She shifted her gaze to his face and smiled
He’s perfect..to her he’s more than perfect
The guy he has been crushing on for months, and now they kssed countlessly and slept on same b.ed in each other’s arms….
It’s too surprising but she loves this kind of surprises…
He suddenly opened his eyes and she quickly closed her eyes, pretending to still be asleep
He kssed her l-ips lightly and smiled
“I know you’re not sleeping, so open your eyes sleeping beauty” he said
She opened her eyes slowly
” Silly you” he said
“how was your night?” She asked
“Twas the best I’ve ever had, with a pretty retarded friend beside me” he replied…
She smiled at that and closed her eyes then he planted a kss on her cheeks
They got up from the bed and entered the bathroom together where she brushed with him before going downstairs
“I think I should be leaving now” she said
” Already?’ he said sadly
“Yeah, mum will be waiting already” she replied
” You told her you’re coming here?” He asked
” Yeah, I’ll never lie to her, I told her I’m coming here but I never knew I’ll sleep over” she replied
” Honestly I feel sad that you’re leaving… we’re on vacation so no way to see everyday again, but don’t worry, there’ll always be a way” he said and hugged her
He went upstairs to bring her bag and shoes
He later drove her home and waved before leaving
“You slept in a guy’s house?” Susan said Immediately she stepped in…
” Mum…
“Valerie you’re still young!” Susan said sternly
“I’m sorry mum I was just, not thinking straight, he was hurting and I just had to stay with him and comfort him” she replied slowly
” So you’ve turned to a soother, Valerie I’m not against puppy love but sleeping over at a guy’s house, isn’t it still early?” She said
” Mum Dwayne is not just a random guy, and we did nothing illegal, mum try to understand”
” I’m really trying my best to understand but…
“Mum..’ she pouted, going to her
She hugged Susan tightly
” I’m sorry about that, I won’t do it again” she said
” Ok…..so how was your night?” Susan asked
” Twas the best mum” she replied
*It’s allover your face, you need to see your face, it’s sparkling with excess happiness” Susan said
Valerie looked up at her face and smiled but it quickly dissappeared
“Your eyeballs, they changed colour, are you ok mum?” She said
Susan quickly brightened up than before
“Yes daughter, I’m perfectly ok, it’s because I just woke up, and you know old age is settling in” she replied
” Oh mum…. you’re still young” she replied
” Young at fifty?, Come off it!” She replied
” But you’re pretty mummy” she said
” I know, isn’t that where you and Melanie got it from?” She said
“sure mum” she replied and hugged her again…

“Mummy!!!” Robin scre-med loudly, running to hug Melanie as she came in with Philip
He actually went back to their house with grandma and Leo with Sally
Melanie carried him and hugged him tightly, she really missed him a lot!
“I missed you a lot baby” she said
“Same here mum, I’m so happy you’re back, I’m tired of eating buttermilk waffles everyday” he said
Melanie smiled and slightly punched his cheeks
“Now mum is back with her delicious delicacies” she replied
“Yes, love you mum” he replied, getting down from her arms
Philip carried him next
” My boy” he beamed
“Kinky daddy” he said
“Cute son” he replied and kssed his chin
“I missed you like crazy” he said
“Missed you more boy, but now we’re back” Philip replied
Then they got time to hug grandma and chat with Leo and Sally too
“Welcome back cuties, I’m expecting twins as my first grandchild” Carolyn said
” Yeah, two babies” Leo said
“Not bad” Melanie replied
“Welcome back boss” Sally said
” How has the office been faring?, I trust you did a good job during my absence” Philip said
” Absolutely sir” she replied
“Like grandma said, we want twins Melanie, we won’t even mind quadruplets” Sally said
Melanie Started laughing
” Sure, miss killer” she replied
Sally laughed and hugged her
Susan and Valerie later joined them, they had fun throughout that day till night when everyone went back to their houses, leaving the couple and their son in their home
Robin sat on the couch in the living room, watching TV but his mind is barely there, he’s busy thinking about the book
So much that when Melanie sat beside him, he never knew till she touched his arm, he spranged up
“Mum!’
” Robin are you ok?, You’ve never been like this, what’s bothering you darling?” She asked
” Mum..
“Yes dear*
” Mystery Of The Dark Room, volume 2″ he said slowly
Her eyes w¡dened
” You…you read it?”
He nodded
” Robin….
“What happened in the end of that book won’t happen to you and Dad right?, You and Dad won’t die gruesomely like that in the hands of Stella right?” He asked at the point of tears
” Robin stop the tears, nothing is gonna happen to us please” she replied, wiping his tears but new round fell
” Mum I’m scared, I don’t want to lose you and I don’t want to lose dad” he said fearfully, crying and hiccuping as he spoke.
Melanie wiped the tears again
“Baby our destiny is different from theirs, the beginning of the story might be similar to ours but our end won’t be like that, destiny has different things in store for everyone so don’t be scared” she said and hugged him….
” What’s happening?” Philip asked, coming downstairs
” Love, he’s finding it difficult to sleep, I’ll take him upstairs to his room and watch him sleep” Melanie replied and without letting Philip see Robin’s face, she went upstairs with him in her arms
Philip looked on confusedly
“Why do I feel uneasy like something big is coming?, What could it be?” He asked himself…
CHAPTER 36
Monday, AR group of companies
“Welcome boss, welcome boss” everyone greeted immediately Philip entered the company with his guards behind and Sally beside him
He smiled in response and stopped, they all converged round him
“I hope you all did a good job during my absence” he stated
” Yes sir” they all chorused
“I’m glad you did… And I hope it continues” he replied
They bowed as he left for his floor
Love really changes, the Philip they know will never give anyone a glance not to talk of saying hello or talking to them like this
He kept a smiling face as he entered his office
Sally dropped some files on his table
“It’s about a conference arranged for CEO’s sir, it’ll last for two weeks and I think it’ll be beneficial if you go for it sir” she said
” Really?, I just came back from my honeymoon and now this?, I don’t plan to go anywhere anytime soon” he replied
” It’s ok if you won’t be able to go sir” Sally said and made to take the files
” It’s ok, I’ll think about it, you can go… And good job once again, I’m impressed” he said and clapped
Sally smiled and took a bow before leaving the office
Philip’s mind drifted to last night again
“Why did i get that feeling that something big Will soon happen?” He thought again
” No need to worry, we’ll be fine” he thought and picked his phone
He dialled his sweetheart number
“Hey love, you left the house thirty minutes ago” Melanie’s voice said
“I know, but I miss you already” he replied
” Cute, you just made me blush this early morning but you know what?, I miss you too” she replied
*What should I get for you while coming? ‘
” Cupcakes” she replied
“Sure, I love you”
“I love you more and more” she replied
He blew ksses on the phone before hanging up…

” Dwayne Macaulay kssed you?” Lillian said shockingly
She actually came to help them move to the new house, they’re already in the new house since the moving was fast
The house is beautiful, quiet spacious and nice
“I swear it, I slept in his house that Friday, we had nice time together, he’s a good ksser I must say, he made my l-ips swell and still continued kssing me, I love him so much! “She replied
” So, did he say the important three words to you? ” Lillian asked
” What Important three words? ” She asked
” Don’t be unserious, did he tell you he loves you?, No one will kss a girl he doesn’t love except a player” Lillian stated
” No, he didn’t tell me he loves me… And I never told him how I feel too” she replied
” Oh Valerie, you should have asked him at least, you have to be sure if the feelings is mutual before digging deep ” Lillian said
” Oh , I should…
“Ask him if he loves you dear, you can’t just keep k-ssing” Lillian replied, playing with her hair
” Ok babe, I’ll do that when next we meet, and I hope he does”
” He does, why else will he k-ss you?, Just that you have to hear him say it himself” Lillian replied
” Alright bestie, how’s Hann doing?” She asked
“She went to see a friend too, this vacation will be boring, I can just smell it” Lillian said
” But not for me” Valerie replied
” Of course not for you , when you have a potential boyfriend already” Lillian replied
” Silly” Valerie hit her playfully…

Susan sat in front of the mirror in her room, staring at her pale face, she’s holding a powder box , about to rub makeup again
“I just wish…. I have more time” she thought sadly
” I wish I can see Valerie getting married too, I wish I can see Zayn waking up, I wish I can see Melanie’s children, I just wish… I have more time” she thought
Tears came out of her eyes as she stared at herself
Thanks to make up and blood tonic, She’ll be able to cover it up
She wiped her tears and rubbed the powder before wearing l¡pstick

“So what do you say?, What’s the problem?” Linda asked as Darien sat beside him on the couch, chewing gum
“There’s this girl in my class, her name is Valerie, she should be called beauty cos the girl I’m talking about is the most beautiful in lighthouse, mum I want her but Dwayne is proving to be an obstacle” Darien said
” Really?, How? ”
” I think he’s into her too, let’s do something about it before it gets out of control” he replied
” Sure we will, I’ll have to manipulate Fido as usual, but what plans do you have? ” Linda asked
Darien moved his mouth closer to her ear and whispered something
“Good idea, that’ll be great, don’t worry, your mum gat your back” she said and smiled
Darien hugged her
” I have the best mother one could ever ask for” he said…

Grandma Carolyn just finished reading the book again for the tenth time and anytime she reads it since Philip got married, she gets the chills
“I hope this won’t be your portion, even if Stella comes back, I’ll make sure she never gets the chance to play shit” she thought, climbing down from her bed
She started pacing round the room
“She’s a fan of horror novels too, Melanie will surely know about it, but still she stayed with him….. That kind of love is rare… But destinies can only have slight resemblance, it can’t be the same” she thought
Her phone rang on the bed and she went for it
It’s Leo
She picked quickly
“HNP” she said
“That’s me,.. grandma I wanna ask something” he said
“Sure”
“You read Mystery Of The Dark Room volume 2 right? ”
” I was about to ask the same thing, sure I did”
” Didn’t you notice the resemblance between the story and Philip’s life story? ”
” Of course I did, but I believe Philip and Melanie won’t end up like that, it’s just a book Leo” she replied
” I know, but I get scared anytime I think about it” he replied
*Same here, but I hope for the best, nothing will happen to those two I’m just sure” Carolyn replied…
” Alright ma’am, goodnight*
” Gnight” she replied and dropped her phone
“Yeah, let’s hope for the best” she sighed…

Next morning**
Robin woke up with that unbearable chest pain again
He held his chest tight and surprisingly, blood is coming out of his nose
“What’s this?” He thought and rushed to the bathroom, he got water from the dispenser and washed the blood off before pouring it all-over his head
He kept his breathing steady and slow, the chest pain gradually left him
He breathed hærd, went out of the bathroom and dried his hair slowly
He sat on the bed and waited for his parents to come brush with him .
“Yeah, mum was right, it’s just a book and nothing more” he thought
Melanie and Philip entered the room immediately
He hugged them both and gave them pecks as usual before they all entered the bathroom
“I’ll be going on a business trip tommorow” Philip broke the news
” Really?, Dad you want me to start k-ssing you again” he complained
” I’m so sorry dear, I should have dodged it but I can’t, it’ll be beneficial to me cos the two weeks conference holds a lot of lectures from a lot of successful old men” he replied
” Two weeks?, Dad” he said
Melanie touched his hair
He calmed down immediately
“I might not spend up to two weeks, it’s sure I won’t even spend up to that so chill boy” Philip said
” Ok dad, I love you” he said
” Love you more my boy” he replied

Night**
A message suddenly came on Valerie’s phone from Dwayne
*I’m waiting outside, let’s go have fun*
She smiled widely, just when she thought tonight will be boring, now this?
It’s a good thing she has texted him her new address earlier
She quickly put on something chick and rushed out of her room
“Mum I’ll be back!” She said when she ran past Susan in the living room
“Going out with your crush again?, Carefulness is needed Princess” Susan replied
” Sure mum, see ya! ” She replied and blew her ksses before leaving
She got out and met him waiting in his car already
She got in with smiles
“Where should we go?” He asked
“Anywhere” she replied
“Club?” He said
“Ion mind” she replied
He smiled and moved the car to a popular club down the city
They got out of the car and he grabbed her hand, he took her into the clubhouse where different songs are blarring from loud speakers
Everyone is already dancing at the floor and those who came to drink are drinking
“You drink?” She asked
“No, ion take alcohol” he replied as they settled down
“Any non-alcoholic drink” he said to the bar man
They were served and they drank slowly
“This place is fun” Valerie said, looking at those that are dancing away their worries
“I know right… Val” he said
“Yes?” She faced him
“Do you…. Have.. a boyfriend?” He asked
Her heart skipped beats at the question
” No I don’t… I mean, if I have a boyfriend, I won’t have.. kssed you” she replied shyly
He smiled and dropped his drink
He held her hand
” You really don’t have one?” He said
She nodded
He smiled and leaned in to kss her l-ips lightly
That sent butterflies down her stomach
He pulled her up and took her to the dance floor
“Let’s dance” he said
“I don’t know how to dance” she replied
“Then watch me” he replied and stepped back when the DJ changed the song
He started dancing like a professional dancer and those dancing even stopped to stare
Soon, they’re clapping and hailing
“Wow!” She said slowly, watching with smiles
“He’s cute!” She thought
He continued dancing for more than ten minutes till he got tired and pulled her out of the clubhouse when people are still clapping for him…
“You… Killed it” she said as they got in the car
“You mean I can dance?” He said
“Of course, you tried” she said…
He saw the sweat beads on his forehead and brought out her hanky
*Wait” she said and he faced her
She started wiping off the sweats slowly
His heart kept leaping at the angel in front of him
She finished wiping it off and glanced at the time
“Past nine, the police patrol” she said
“Sht!” He said and moved the car
He started racing down the street and truly they’re already at standby
They told him to stop as he passed by the juncture but he never did
Dwayne kept speeding and soon, the police car is following them behind
“This could be fun” Valerie said, smiling as she watched the car following them from the mirror
“I know right?” Dwayne replied and took a bent corner
The cops took the corner too and kept chasing them
“That bend” Valerie said
Dwayne took the bend and sped off
The cops took it without knowing it’s a bend, their car almost somersaulted
Valerie started laughing
Dwayne laughed with her too but soon , the police car is behind them again
“That corner!” Valerie suggested again
Dwayne swiftly took the corner and when the cops tried it, their car got stuck
Valerie looked back at them, sticking out her head through the window
“Catch us if you can!” She scre-med as Dwayne kept speeding, she laughed loudly at the cops and stuck hands with Dwayne
“You rock Dwayne!, I love this!” She scre-med
Dwayne laughed at her loudness and kept speeding
The cops took a corner and waylay them in the front
“Oh, they’re smart” Valerie said
“Just watch me” Dwayne replied and pretended like he wants to stop
The gullible cops came out of their car, they’re three pot bellied cops
Their sight alone is funny
Immediately they came out of the car, Dwayne suddenly turned the car to the other side of the road and almost hit them, making them fall on their buts
Valerie laughed out loud as Dwayne sped off
They lost them at last
“We rock!” She scre-med, still laughing with Dwayne till they got far and made sure the cops aren’t on their trail anymore
Dwayne suddenly stopped the car
“You’re awesome!” Valerie said
“Yeah I know” he replied, smiling
“But why did you stop?” She asked
“I dunno, I just…. Want…
“What?” She asked
He raised his hand to her cheeks and she felt that warmness again
He bent in slowly and without hesitating, he kssed her
