CHAPTER 45

Melanie and Valerie can’t be consoled, no one can console them,. Mum died, Dad woke up
Should they be happy or sad?, A hærd core decision to make
According to what she told Valerie before hear death, after close to four hours of mourning, her body was shifted into the theatre with Robin for the surgery, her heart will have to be used for him
Melanie won’t stop crying still
“So they both hid something big from everyone, just why will they do that, why will they hide something as big as that” Melanie lamented in Philip’s arms, he’s actually hugging her but her tears has w-t his shoulder badly
“I’m sorry sweetheart, I’m so sorry all this sad occurrences has to happen at once” he said, patting her back
” I feel guilty that I didn’t even get to know about her sickness when she was still alive, she must have kept it as one top secret” she said
” She’s the best mother one will ever ask for, she’s a virtuous woman, kind-hearted, principled, goes by her rules and never deviates…. Mum is just too rare to find, where else will I find another mother, just where else will I find a mother like you” Valerie lamented sadly
” Sorry baby, sorry” Lillian said beside her, patting her back, Everyone really took a big dose of sadness
“You girls should go see your dad” Carolyn said slowly
” That’s true, pending when Robin’s surgery will be over, I’ll take you” Philip said, wiping Melanie’s tears, she nodded and Lillian pulled Valerie up from her sitting position
They walked out of the hospital in sadness and red eyes, they drove in Philip’s car to survivors hospitals
Melanie and Valerie walked slowly into their dad’s ward and truly, his eyes is opened, he’s sitting up on bed with a pale face
“Dad” Melanie said slowly, going closer with Valerie who also has her gaze fixed on him
He kept looking at them questioningly till Melanie sat beside him on the bed and hugged him
“Dad” she mouthed, coiling her hands round him as tears fell from her eyes again, as if the tears has been waiting to be shed
Valerie sat on the other side and hugged her from there too
“Daddy” she said, crying too, Philip and Lillian just tried to hide their tears as they watched
“My….. My daughters?” Zayn said shakily
They broke the hug and faced him
” Yes dad, yes” Valerie said, tears rushed out of Zayn’s eyes too, he held Valerie’s face as if it’s an egg which must not be broken
“My Valerie, my baby daughter” he said, his hands are shaking on her cheeks
“Dad it’s me, it’s me dad” she replied and he pulled her into a tight hug again
” Valerie I’m sorry for not waking up earlier, when I woke up and was told that this is 2021, I realized I’ve been sleeping for seven years, meaning you’ll be eighteen now and Melanie will be twenty two” he said, shifting his gaze to Melanie
” My go$h!, You’re now a woman, my precious gift” he said, hugging her too
” Dad I’m sorry you had to be in a vegetative state for seven years because of me, I’m so sorry dad” she said in his shoulders
” But seeing that you’re fine now, I’m ok, I’m really ok daughter” Zayn replied, stopping his tears
Melanie stood and went to Phil, she held his hand and brought him forward,..
“My husband, Philip Albert” she said
“Your…. Your husband?”
Melanie nodded
“Come here” Zayn said and Philip sat beside him on the bed too, “if anyone tells me my daughter will still get married I’ll argue, thanks for not looking at her flaws and blemishes, thanks for marrying my daughter, thanks Philip, thanks till eternity” he said gratefully
” Thanks for waking up for us dad” Philip replied
” I’m just glad you’re back to us” Valerie said
“You don’t bath with cold water right?, You know you’ll catch flu if you do” Zayn said
“that again, I always bath with warm water even in summer” Valerie smiled sadly
” Wait… Where’s Susan?, Where’s my dearest?” He asked, looking at them all
Melanie sat beside him again…
“Dad, I hope you’ll be able to live through it….” She said
“Don’t tell me….
“She passed away today” Valerie said slowly
Zayn stared into space for long before speaking..
“So I woke up today, and she passed away” he finally said
” Dad…
“It’s ok, it’s fine, maybe that’s how it’s destined to be… But I must say, I have a cruel destiny, cruel to the core” he replied, letting out his tears once again as Melanie and Valerie hugged him again…
He still needs to stay in the hospital for treatment till he’ll be perfectly ok so Valerie and Lillian stayed with him while Melanie left with Philip for the hospital where Robin is..
Minutes after they left**
“Hi!” Came a voice from the door, Valerie and Lillian shifted their gaze to the door and saw Darien with that usual annoying smile
“What the he..ll are you doing here!” Valerie smirked and stood
“I’ll be right back dad, Lillian I’m coming” she said and stood to go meet him, she took him to the wide hallway
“Ok so what are you doing here?” She demanded
“Come on don’t be cranky, I have plans for you but unfortunately you didn’t come to school despite the fact that today is Monday, the first day of resumption” Darien blurted
” I’m sure you should have known that you’re blurting rubbish” she replied sternly
” Ok sorry about what you lost but babe, I miss you, like seriously I miss you heavily…. At night I always dream of you….
That was interrupted with a $lap from Valerie
“You’re sick!, Go away!” She yelled with red eyes before leaving furiously
Darien held his cheeks and smiled, “I think I’ll have to follow mum’s advise here, be ready for a shocker Valerie” he muttered before leaving…

The surgery is still ongoing when Melanie and Philip got back to the hospital
They paced round the reception with the others, waiting for a positive answer though sadness still clouded their minds
Melanie just lost the most important person in her life..
Hours later**
“It was successful, thankfully it was” one of the operating doctors announced immediately he came out of the theatre
“Robin will be stable and wake before the end of this week, we’ve stitched Madam Susan and she’ll be moved to the hospital mortuary, you can come for her body anytime you choose to bury her” the doctor further explained
Melanie heaved a sigh that’s difficult to detect what it it, weather relief or pain
But maybe this is really how it’s destined to be… But like her dad said, it’s really a cruel destiny… Too cruel…

“I’ve contacted two interns in the hospital and I’ve payed them, they’ll be the one to carry out the job tommorow, we don’t have to worry” Stella said, puffing on her cigar
” That’s cool, so after getting your son, what next?” Rico asked
*I know they won’t leave only Robin in the ward, there’ll be at least a person with her, if it’s Melanie or Philip, anyone of them will be kidnapped together with him, and on getting here, I’ll use the kidnapped one to lure the other one” she replied
” But if Melanie later gets kidnapped, I won’t mind having her over and over again” Rico said
” No chance, you wanna have fun with her after b.anging Kat?, Not allowed, that’s your punishment” Stella replied
” Stella…
“No argument” she interrupted…

Next day**
Susan’s burial is just ending and they’re just dispersing from the burial ground..
The burial was done amidst tears, Zayn attended too and he almost cried out his eyes but immediately after the burial, he has been returned to the hospital cos it’s not safe for him to stay out too much yet
“I’ll go get some of our stuffs at home, Melanie you should go back to the hospital I’ll meet you there” Philip said
” I’ll go with him and cook something, you need to eat” Carolyn said
” Mummy Carolyn I’m…
“I know you’re not fine so don’t bother telling me you’re fine, even if it’s tea” Carolyn interrupted
” It’s ok” Melanie sighed
Philip guided her into the car and the car drove off to the hospital while Philip drove home with Carolyn…
While in the car, Melanie felt like puking again, he told the driver to stop and came out of the car and this time, she threw up a bit
She felt tired after vomiting, she touched her stomach and breath heavily, “I know this feeling” she thought, going back to the car
The drive to the hospital was smooth and the guards surrounding the hospital are still there, standing gallantly
She went into Leo’s ward to see Sally first before going to Robin’s ward…
She sat on a stool beside him and held his hand
“My dear, I hope you’ll wake up soon” she said hopefully, gulping down sadness
The door suddenly opened and two interns came in
“We need to check his vitals” one of them said
“Oh… it’s fine” she replied and stood
One of them went behind her , pretending like she wants to pass but the next thing Melanie felt is a thr-st on her neck, she was injected and she slept off Immediately….

10 minutes later**
Philip and Carolyn entered the ward and met emptiness..
Philip rubbed his eyes to make sure but it’s still same
“What’s happening!, Where’s my wife and son!” He yelled impatiently
Some doctors rushed in
” Sir…
“Now where’s my wife and son!, Where are they!!!” He yelled, holding a doctor by his polo
” Mr…calm down and…
” Don’t tell me to calm down!!!, Just give me my wife and son!!!” He yelled
Carolyn grabbed another doctor
” Where did my daughter in-law go!, Where’s my grandson!!!!”

“We had to pedal them out of the hospital in wheelchairs and we wore nose masks for them, that’s why the guards didn’t notice” one of the interns said on getting to Stella’s den
Stella stroked Robin’s hair on the stretcher he was placed on
“My boy” she said fondly, she faced the interns and without thinking twice, she shot them both
“S-lady” Rico said surprisingly, “this wasn’t part of the plan”
“I added it, since they betrayed the hospital management cos of the money we gave them, what assurance do we have that they won’t betray us?” Stella replied
” That’s true” Rico replied
“Dispose them off and tie this wench to a chair” she ordered
Minutes later**
Melanie woke up to a familiar voice, the voice is sending chills down her spine even in her unconscious position,so much that it caused her to wake up
She opened her eyes and found herself tied to a chair in a disorg-nized room which looks like a workshop
“Awake huh?” The voice said again, even in a thousand years, her ears will still recognize his voice
The voice of the rappist who was telling her to shut up that night while rapping her
Her ears recognize it a lot
She slowly looked up and her eyes met his devilish face which has a mischievous smirk
“We met again, sweet sixteen years old girl” he said
Tears came out of Melanie’s eyes as she watched him smile and memories of that night flowed through her brain, head and mind
” Ba$tard!, Devl!, M©ron!” She scre-med
Rico landed a $lap on her face and her l-ips bled
“I never said you could talk” he said
Her eyes suddenly caught a stretcher and Robin is on top of it
” No!, No Robin!!!, Robin!!” She started scre-med, trying to stand up but it’s unfortunate that she’s tied
“Shut…your mouth!” A female voice said, coming from the left side
Melanie shifted her gaze there and saw the devil herself
STELLA, coming with a triumphant smile on her ugly face
CHAPTER 46
“Welcome to my den” Stella said, grinning arrogantly as she sat on a chair in front of her
” So it’s you bch” Melanie said, rolling eyes at her
” Yeah, it’s me, the bitch who’ll kill you and your silly henpecked husband tommorow, then get out of here with my son” Stella replied with a squint
” Don’t you have even a bit of conscience?” Melanie said at the verge of tears
” I’ve sold my conscience to the devil so come off it baby, you can’t escape death with your hubby” she replied, standing up
” S-lady, can’t you just let me have a taste of her again?, I’m already as hærd as a rock” Rico said from his corner
” Yeah , continue getting hærd, all your hærdness is for me, I won’t allow you to enjoy her, get that? ” Stella replied seriously
” It’s painful but…
” Shut it Rico! ”
” Ok , forgive me S-lady, I won’t bring it up again” he replied
Melanie tried hærd not to look at him cos it’ll bring a rush of memories again
Now fate brought her to the midst of these two devils, Rico as the beast, and Stella as the destructive ceaser
Really really a cruel fate
“Early tomorrow morning, we’ll send a text to Philip and tell him to come” Stella said
” Are you nuts?, You’re wanted, aren’t you afraid of cops?” Rico replied
“Cops?, You’re funny, when I tell him his wife’s life is on the line, you’ll expect him to bring cops?, Come on” Stella replied assuredly
” That’s right, how about the kid, the interns said he was still receiving treatment in the hospital as a result of the transplant, won’t his life be in danger?” Rico said
” Danger?, So far he’s my son, he’ll not be in danger, come on come give me back to back in my room” Stella said
” Oh, I get that” Rico replied
Stella went to Melanie and held her chin up
“Start saying your last prayers cos once Philip appears tommorow, you’ll both die together” she said and laughed derisively before going in with Rico
Melanie looked at Robin who’s lying lifelessly on the stretcher
He’s supposed to be receiving treatment and now this?
Her tears rolled down her cheeks as she watched him, “please hold on, hold on dear, you can do it” she mumbled.

Philip is almost at the verge of going crazy, the hospital is in disarray already cos he made sure he destroyed everything in sight
He’s beyond capturing cos his bones turned to hærd rocks, the cops are doing well in their search but it’s fruitless, as if Stella is not in the surface of the earth
Not seeing Melanie and Robin is enough to make Philip go mad, like it’s too early to be like this
Valerie saw the news on TV in her dad’s ward, thankfully her dad is asleep by that time, it’d have been another story entirely now…
Valerie kept hoping fervently that Melanie and Robin should be fine, even Lillian who used to be her comforter is losing hope and is crying silently
This is just too much for the two families.
When Philip’s display is getting h-rder and h-rder, he might go berserk soon, he was injected with sedative and he slept off immediately… only to wake up the next morning.
“Why will they sedate me?” He said, trying to act manly and hide his tears
*You were getting violent and I had to tell them to do it” Carolyn said with tears in her eyes
A message buzzed on his phone and he checked with Sally behind him
*Hey Mr idi©t, if you wish to see your wife again, come to the warehouse in Kayden’s avenue right now, I’m waiting, and your wife will be shot immediately I catch the sight of cops, come alone*
He finished reading it and left the ward immediately, not listening to calls from anyone
“I think I know where he’s going mummy Carolyn, let’s plan” Sally said
” Sure, what’s the plan?” Carolyn asked impatiently..

“Lillian you have to stay with Dad, I’ll check on Mr Albert and come back in less than thirty minutes” Valerie said, standing up from her dad’s side
A friend like Lillian is rare, even though school has resumed, she still stayed with her and refused to go to school
“It’s fine, be careful” Lillian replied
Valerie nodded and left the hospital, luckily she found a cab just in front of the hospital, as if it has been waiting for her, she entered hurriedly.
Lillian rushed out to give her her phone cos she forgot it but what she saw made her suspicions rise
Valerie is just entering a cab and immediately the car moved, another car followed behind and luckily the window is down, her eyes popped up when she saw who’s in
Darien!
He might be up to something so she decided to follow behind, she stopped a car and trailed them.

Philip got to the warehouse and truly a guy is waiting outside, the guy Stella left with seven years ago
Though he knows he’s behaving stupidly right now but seeing Robin and Melanie is what matters
The guy pushed him in and they started walking, they climbed up to seven stairs, descending and ascending, then they got to a room and the room led to another room, rooms kept leading to rooms till they got to where they’re going
He met Stella sitting on a chair with a smile on her face
“Stella” he said , not shocked though
“Surprised?”
“I’m not surprised, you’re the only devil I know” he replied.
” I’m blushing, I deserve an award for being the only devil in your life, didn’t I tell you?, I told you you’ll regret it and this is just the start, you’re dying today anyways” Stella replied, standing up
” What have I ever done to you” Philip said slowly
” Oh, you’re still not getting it?, I never loved you, it was all a game seven years ago to come into your life and s-ck your money, I made you fall and your idiotic self fell, we got married, I got pregnant and tried to ab©rt but you were always on my neck, I succeeded in siphoning a lot of your money during my pregnancy, I framed your secretary for it…
“So It was you back then” Philip said painfully
“Sure it was me, I did it and some weeks later I gave birth … What will I still be doing in your house when I’ve s-cked your money and you almost went broke?, That’s why I left, and when I felt like I’m broke, I came back maybe my luck will still work but you already have a witch as a wife, I got annoyed cos no one crosses me, that’s why my plan now is to kill you and that witch, then fly out with my son” Stella smirked
A door opened and a stretcher was pulled out of the room by Rico, Robin is lying on it, Melanie was taken out of the room too, tied like a captive, she was thrown down like a piece of trash and she fell heavily…
Her face is disfigured like someone who has passed through a lot of t©rture, that alone breaks his heart
“Melanie!, Robin!” Philip scre-med and stood, he was rushing to them when Stella shot him in the arm, he fell on his knees, holding the arm
“Aarrgh!” He winced slowly as blood gushed out of the shot arm
“Oh oh, the husband got shot, Rico I think I changed my mind, our flight is in two hours time, I want you to b.ang this bch in the presence of her husband” Stella said wickedly
” I love you S-lady!, This is exactly what I’ve been looking for!, Ok dear husband, the rappist who rapped your dear wife seven years ago, is me” Rico laughed devilishly
” What!” Philip said unbelievably, tears came out of his eyes as he watched Rico laugh
“Have her now!” Stella ordered, Rico started unbolting his belt and Melanie’s tears increased
” No, no, no!” Philip said and stood to go there again but Stella shot him on the arm again, same s₱0t
He fell on his knees once again, crying bitterly as he continued holding the arm
“Stay there, else your chest will be next” Stella warned
Melanie is tied so no chance to struggle, Rico lay her down and pulled down his trousers, leaving him with only his boxers, Stella still kept laughing devilishly
The sounds of gunshots filled the place when Rico was just about to take off his boxers, one of the stray bullets hit him on the leg and he fell, Melanie and Philip are already laying low so they’re safe
Stella shot back but she had barely shot thrice when her gun ran out of bullets
“I told you not to call the cops!, Ba$tard!!!” She yelled , not knowing what to do
Rico is still wincing in pains from his shot leg when the door was brought down and the cops entered with Sally and Carolyn
Sally rushed to Melanie and untied her immediately
Stella was proving stubborn but when bullets were planted on her two knees, she went down immediately and was handcuffed…
Carolyn went to unconscious Robin on the stretcher
Philip managed to stand up, still holding his arm, it hurts a lot
Immediately Sally untied Melanie, Melanie grabbed Rico by the hair and hit his head on the wall heavily
The cops made to intervene but Sally stopped them,
Melanie hit Rico’s head on the wall repeatedly till he fell on the floor weakly.
“Aaarrrrggg!!!!!” He scre-med in agony
“This..is… not..in… anyway comparable…to the… agony…I felt…as a result…of what you did…to me!!” She scre-med
She’s about to continue marching his head again but Sally held her
“It’s ok dear, it’s ok”
“No it’s not!, I must kill him myself, that’s the only way to overcome completely!” She replied and annoyingly killed him.
Sally hugged Melanie tightly
“It’s ok dear, it’s fine now”
“She’s going to jail on a wheelchair” Philip said, referring to Stella whose knees has been shot and is unable to stand
“She’s a con artist, a duper, fraud and more, take her away” he said and Stella was taken out by the cops
“I want money! , I did it for money!” She kept saying as she was taken away
” He’s gasping for breath” Carolyn said beside Robin’s stretcher…
Melanie and Philip rushed to him with Sally and he’s indeed gasping for breath..
*Call an ambulance!!!” Sally scre-med
Carolyn called an ambulance and it came in a jiffy
Robin was rushed to the hospital…
He has been exposed to a lot of dangers outside the hospital when he’s supposed to be receiving treatment after the transplant
Philip’s shot arm was quickly attended to, the bullets were removed and his arm was treated and bandaged though he’s in a wh0le lot of pain enough to lay down but he can’t
They all paced round the reception hopefully
Melanie’s heartbeat is over hundred per minute while Philip’s heart is busy somersaulting in,side his ribcage, hoping hærd for Rob to be fine
Melanie felt like vomiting again but she kept fighting it..
The ward door swung open and they all held their breaths as the doctors came out..
“How’s my boy?” He asked impatiently
The doctors kept staring at them as if to say something bad happened
“How is Robin doing!!!!” Melanie yelled, tears trickling down her disfigured face…
