🌹Chapter one🌹
(*Bad news*)

👩Corinne 👩

I sat impatiently in the principal’s office, waiting, tapping my stiletto heels impatiently on the floor. I caught the eyes of the bursar once, twice …thrice…ugh! Just forget how many times, she was obviously irritated with the unwelcomed noise I was making with my shoes, but I ignored her. I was already bored of browsing through my instagram page which had approximately one million followers. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking.
😐 I’m very popular, I mean my brother is a famous superstar, an idol, so yeah, why won’t I share in his fame too?
Speaking of importance, why the hell am I still sitting on this worn out couch, waiting for the elderly, bald principal to attend to me? I had been summoned like ten minutes ago, leaving behind the everlasting boisterousness of my class. I felt angry and stood up unhurriedly. I adjusted my fur coat well on my shoulder, just so the bursar would look at me. The fur coat, which I just got last week as a gift from my dad worth more than six thousand dollars. I took long stride towards the bursar and banged my hand on the table in front of her, she looked up, startled, then looked down to my hands that was heavily adorned with expensive rings. I smirked in satisfaction when I saw a glint of admiration in her eyes.
“I wonder why I was summoned Miss potter.” I used my most condensing voice. I enjoyed watching the way her shoulders slumped and hunched under my hostile glare.
“well… I’m…im…”she stammered.
“I hate been kept waiting Miss potter, you ought to know that. Go on, go tell the principal how long I’ve been here. ” I pursed my lips and then casually raised a brow, challenging her to dare argue with me.
“alright. ” she pushed back her chair and stood up, while I straightened up. She hadn’t even taken up to five steps towards the principal office when the door opened. A short stocky girl in turquoise cardigan and long brown hair walked out, her èyes were Misty, like as though she’d cry anytime soon, as she trudged slowly away.
“well that’s your cue to go in Miss Williams. ” the bursar gestured to the partly shut door of the principal’s office. I snorted loudly and marched past her, my stiletto making loud click-clike sound on the marble tiles, into the principal’s office. I was hit with a gust of cold air emanating from the air-conditioner. The principal office was quiet lavishly furnished, ornate furniture, even the polished cinnamon desk had artificial flowers placed on each edge.
“good day sir. ” I knew I sounded impatient, I was just thinking of the first hand gossip I would be missing, as well as flirting with those hot ‘demigods’.
“sit down Cori.” the principal, Mr Edwin never addressed me as Miss Williams, as the other teachers did. Turns out that the principal and my dad are great friends. You! Am I not so lucky? 😕
He was a stocky, barrel chested man in his late fifties, with receding hairline and nose that seemed to be too big on his face. I inferiorly eyed the wooden chair I was expected to sit down on, disgustingly.
“sit down. ” the man said again, obviously noticing my discomfort and making no attempt to remedy it. I grudgingly lowered my butt on the chair, and then adjusted my skirt. I turned an expressionless face to the principal, trying to read his own expression and be able to decipher what he was thinking about. I prided myself on my ability to read people’s mind and their intention by looking at their face. The look on the principal’s ugly face was, well… It meant two things. Goodness for him and bad news for me.
“I know you’re probably wondering why I called you here Cori… ” he paused and looked into my face. I didn’t say anything, I just rudely lifted up my wrist to stare at my watch, then I turned a bored eyes at him. I nearly smirked in satisfaction when I saw him trying to battle his anger.
“well I’m… Sorry to inform you that you failed physics and maths, again. The second time in a row. ” he paused, and seeming to have gathered enough courage, he leaned back into his chair and fixed a speculative gaze on my face.
“so what have you got to say Cori? ”
I deliberately didn’t reply immediately , and I also made no attempt to look repentant, though I was worried. I, instead, leaned back to my chair, just the way he had done, just to irritate him.
“well, I guess I’ll have to study harder then principal Edward. ” the words left my lips smugly, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

“this is a very issue Cori!” principal Edward finally snapped, sitting upright now.

“and Who says I’m not being serious about it? ”

“you got an ‘E’ in physics, your maths was an ‘F'” The man continued, like as though I hadn’t spoken.

“I’ve promised to read harder sir, geez, why are you making it sound like a big deal? ” I tapped my nails on the table and it made little scratching sound.

“it is a BIG deal.” he stressed the ‘big’, while staring into my face. I rolled my shoulders in a shrug.

“so what are you going to do? Suspend me? ” I asked in a taunting voice. I knew he’d never do that, he usually received little favours from my dad.

“I’m calling your father.”
Holly Molly! This man does know how to speak French! He’s calling my…
Wait! My dad?! I felt a surge of panic rise up to my throat, like vomit.

“my dad?! ” I nearly screamed my eyes nearly popping out of my socket.

“yes miss, your excesses needs to be curbed. “he stated in a calm voice, obviously enjoying himself.

“b….b…but sir… ” I blubbered like a three year old. “…that’s unnecessary! “I was now a little bit scared.

“yeah, it is necessary. Your parents need to be aware of this recent developments and then figure out what decision to take. ” he had began to punch the all too familiar number on the land-line on the table.

“but I’ve promised to read harder… ” my voice was strangled.

“that’s still not enough Cori…. “.he put the receiver to his ears while I tapped my feet agitatedly on the floor. I knew this stocky baldy was always looking for an excuse to call my dad, just to get one little favour here and there

“hello Mr Williams…hope you’re not busy now?… ”
I stopped listening to the principal’s croaky voice, irritated. I glanced up once when I heard ‘disciplinary measures’, I felt like whacking the man’s ugly face. I wonder what disciplinary action my dad would take this time. Last time my dad had tried to be strict with me, he had ground me for two weeks. No phone, no laptops, no credit card and most wickedly,no hanging out with friends. I had been so restless that I fell sick on the third day, my mom had no option but to lift the ban off me. I wondered what my dad is probably cooking up now, I just pray it won’t be severe…
The principal gently dropped down the receiver with a road like smile on his face.

“well Cori, your dad has promised to do something about this.. Erg… Issue.” I winced inwardly at the last word, and I glared at him.
“Don’t feel bad Cori, it’s for your own good, I’m sure… ” I zoned out automatically, and stopped listening to his shots, finally when he was done with his lectures, I noisily pushed back the wooden chair I had been sitting on, and walked out quickly out of the office, not even sparing him a glance. I made sure i banged the door after me to show my anger. How could one ugly barell chested man just ruin my mood? Maybe I should just change school, a school where the principal is not my dad’s friend, a school…
I bumped into someone….
I struggled to maintain my balance, before turning to glare at whomever it was that had made me nearly hit my butt on the floor.

“hey Cori… “a honey blond haired girl with brown eyes said quietly, with a little smile. I adjusted my coat, looked into my watch before looking back at her.
“do I know you? ” I asked in a voice devoid of friendliness. I saw her shoulders hunch slightly.

“uhm…n…no… But you’re quite popular. ” she smiled broadly, revealing a pair of dimple. “by the way, I’m Tiffany. “she stretched out her hands towards me, her dimpled smile looking genuine. My eyes dropped to her outstretched hands, then I looked into her face for a long time. I saw the way she blushed in embarrassment, then she finally dropped her hand.

“you should know that I don’t shake just ‘anybody’s’ hand. ” I said in an unkind voice.

“I… I understand.” her èyes had hardened, but she dipped her head down a little, giving me enough view of the almost chestnut hair. I didn’t have the time to admire her hair, instead I raised up my head in a dignified manner and strode out. I could feel her looking at me. But no worries. I’m used to leaving an awed audience behind.
I had just entered into the class when the bell rang loudly, indicating dismissal. I stood by the door as students filed past me, giving me admiring glances, especially the boys.

“oh look, there’s Cori! ” I recognized the perfectly clipped London accent even before the owner came into view.

“hey Cori, what took so long in the principal’s…? “she immediately shut up when she saw the scowl on my face.

“what’s up babe?” Debbie asked nonetheless, her hair glistening evenly, lips bright pink.
“I happened to get an ‘E’ in my physics test, while I got an ‘F, in maths quiz. ” I huffed out, as we began to head out to the park lot.

“don’t be upset about it baby, you just have to study harder. ” Boon Yi chipped in with her everlasting sweet voice.

“yeah, that’ll mean less partying…less boys…” Debbie added, before popping her bubble gum.

“that’s not why I’m upset.” I whined pathetically.

“then tell us babe. ” Boon Yi urged me, looking sympathetic already.
“The toad…erh.. Principal called my dad. And luckily for me my dad has promised to take some disciplinary actions, to curb my excesses, as he put it. ” I rolled my eyes at the last part.
Boon Yi’s smooth face crinkled into a frown.
“Awwn, I just hope your Dad won’t be harsh…”
“Yeah, the last time he banned us from coming over to your house. ” Debbie snorted
“Guys, you’re not even helping matters. ” I Snapped irritably. I snatched my bag from Boon Yi and then turned to face them.
“I want to be alone now. You girls go home, we’ll see later in the evening. ” I turned around to leave.

“wait! ” it was Boon Yi, and I didn’t wait, I continued walking like I had not hearda thing.

“we haven’t figured out what we’ll wear tomorrow! ” she hollered, undaunted by my silence.

“we wear our T-shirt! ” I called back in the same way, not turning even once. Outside, in the school park lot, my limo glittered beautifully in the sunlight. I was in a bad mood, so I didn’t get the joy and satisfaction I always felt on seeing my car stand out amongst all other cars. I walked quickly to the car and got in.

“where to miss? ” the drivers thick accented voice asked.

“home. ” I said in a voice that said : where else?
I leaned back to the soft cushion and closed my eyes, just as the Limousin slowly wove it’s way out of the school compound, thinking of the storm brewing up by now…
