“Where is my mum? ” A young boy of six had asked a woman who seemed to be his class teacher. She smiled at him nicely.
“Can’t you wait few minutes more Andrew? She will be here soon”
“No! I want to see her now. She promised to take me to see someone ”
“Andrew, I am not in for your nonsense again. You are such a spoilt brat. Go into the class and wait for your mum” She insisted before walking off leaving him at the school hallway. Andrew felt impatient and looked around for few more seconds before walking toward his class.
“Andrew dear! ” he heard someone yell his name from down the stairs. He happily recognized the voice as his mother’s. Racing down the stairs, she didn’t notice a banana peeling at the foot of the steps and unfortunately slipped over it. Luckily his mum was right there in time to prevent him from falling.
“Naughty boy, do you really have to be so stubborn all the time? Why were you running like that? “she asked in surprise.
“I wanted to see you mother. I was in a hurry to see you” he answered before pulling her for a hug. His mum rolled her eyes and pulled him away carefully.
“You aren’t a child anymore. Come on, let’s leave now. I promised I wanted to take you somewhere right? ”
“Yes. But who do we want to see? ” he asked.
“It’s a surprise”
The young boy frowned. She knew how much he hated surprises but still she kept giving him surprises. He wished he could find out from another source but wasn’t sure who knew about this person they wanted to see.
“Miss Helia, take very good care of this son of yours. He is so naughty ” the earlier woman had told Andrew mother who nodded.
“He took after me but it’s alright I know how to handle stubborn children like him. Thanks miss Caro. You have helped me a lot in handling him in school ”
“Miss Helia, he won’t Find a better teacher than me. Please don’t thank me”
Helia smiled and turned back at her son who was in a hurry to see this person her mum was so adamant he sees. In few minutes they were out of the school compound and were already headed toward the park with her car. Helia watched her son look out of the window admiring everything he’d saw outside. She couldn’t help but think of Anderson when she sees him. He took after his father in looks. They looked so much a like. No difference at all. If she had known she didn’t need a DNA test then she wouldn’t have bothered collecting the DNA results from the hospital six years ago. It would just occurred to her by surprise at the birth of her handsome Andrew. She swayed her car towards the gate of the Holy Park and began finding for a suitable parking lot. As soon as she had parked, she stepped out of her car and helped her son out.
“Let me get you Ice cream Andrew” she suggested heading towards an ice cream stand.
“Okay mummy. Let’s get ice cream ” He agreed. The park was cool that evening. There weren’t much people around unlike Saturday’s and Friday’s. Helia expected her son to ask why they hadn’t visited the park on a Saturday instead since most of his friends would be there but he didn’t. He must be as curious in seeing this stranger. As soon as they got their ice creams, a car pulled over beside hers. She recognized the car and couldn’t help but smile shyly at herself. Andrew noticed her wired behavior and doubted it that was their strange visitor.
“Is that the visitor’s car mother? ” He asked curiously.
“Yes dear” She answered happily.
“But who is she? Who is the visitor? ” He wanted to know.
“It isn’t a she. It is a he” She corrected.
“Is he your boyfriend? ”
“Andrew enough of the questions. Just wait for him first ” She pleaded scared she will ruin the surprise. The driver of the car stepped out and to her excitement it was Anderson himself in his handsome well ironed suit. She turned to her son who stared at the man with more curiosity.
“Do you still want to know how he is Andrew? ” She whispers in his ears.
“Yes mother. Who is he? ”
“He is your father Andrew. Your father is back”
Andrew got astonished and stared on almost speechless.
“But…but… But you never talk about him. I thought my friends said he was in jail”
“Yes. He was in jail but he was released last year. Your friends are really bad you know. How could they have said that to you? Your father got back his job as a doctor and decided to recover back himself before coming back to you. He didn’t want go show himself to you as a complete failure,” He explained to him hoping he understands. The young boy did immediately. He rushed over to Anderson for a hug. The young father swept him off his feet into his arm. For the first time Helia caught sight of him shedding tears of joy. She felt so excited watching both father and son unite together ago after been apart for years.
“Anderson… “She called out realizing she was lost in his son’s embrace and had forgotten her. Anderson got back to his senses and turned towards her. He threw her a smile and dropped Andrew down. “How are you Helia? ” he asked.
She didn’t bother to give him an answer. She rushed towards him and drew him close for a very passionate k-ss. After a long time, she’s got to unite with her loving doctor again.
