Sequence 22

TWO YEARS LATER
“Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Tasheni, Happy Birthday to you, How old are you now” I heard Justine’s voice in the other room
“Two years” she answered
“Let’s go and wake mummy up” Justine said
I slept late the previous night making sure everything had been set for Tash’s birthday party I didn’t even hear Justine get out of bed, I only woke up when I heard his voice singing happy birthday.

“Mummy,” Tash said when she entered the room
She ran to my bed and I hugged her tightly, “awwwwww my baby is two years already” I said and she giggled
“Cake mummy cake” she said
“Patience baby” I told her
“Morning Mr. Mbao” I smiled at Justine
“Morning Mrs. Mbao” he said while rubbing my belly
“Continue doing that, it makes the babies relax” I told him then we burst out laughing.
It was my baby’s second birthday and I was 3 months pregnant with twins could life get any better for me.
I woke up and took a bath, then went to drink some minute Maid while preparing breakfast for my husband
We were having Tasheni’s birthday party that afternoon but my little girl was so impatient to wait for the cake in the afternoon, I was lucky I had another cake for her, so at breakfast we sang for her and she cut her first cake she was so happy you could see how she was grinning.

This pregnancy was different from the previous one, the morning sickness was less and I had a variety of food that I liked. Before the party everything was set and I went to take a nap for a short while.
I was woken by Chloe an hour later,
“Wena wake up, how can you be sleeping when it’s party time” she said
“Chloe you are just too early let me sleep a bit” I said
“No ways just wake up shah, I even brought you a dress for this function” she said
“Hey my babies” I greeted her kids
“Hey auntie where is Tash?” Emelie asked
“She should be in her room with her father” I told her and the children quickly rushed out to check on her.
“So how are you?” Chloe asked
“I am fine you know Tash can be dramatic I had to hid from her to take this nap” I said
“I see that’s how kids are” she responded
“Oh gosh and now I am having two more” I smiled
“More trouble but you know I am always here”
Let me bath before people start coming” I told her
“Who have you invited?” she asked
“Well just some kids from Justine’s family and his sisters and a few kids from Tasheni’s day care” I told her
“Alright let me go out and see what needs to be attended to” she said and left
I took a long warm bath, I was enjoying the water pouring on my body I left the bathroom and started applying lotion on my body when Justine got in.
“Can I help with that?” he asked while smiling

“No I am almost done” I said
“Let me bath also, I just finished dressing up Tasheni” he said
Tasheni troubles Justine more than she troubles me she throws tantrums when I feed her or drive her to school, I just laugh at how much of a daddy’s girl she has become.
My baby enjoyed her party to the max, being the center of attention just made her feel like a princess and the presents she received where too many for my little one, it felt so good to see how many people cared for her, she was over the moon while opening present after present.
Two years ago I didn’t know I would be this happy, I didn’t even think Justine and I would finally get married looking at the opposition we received from his mother and sister. They swore they would never accept me at that time, I started planning our wedding without the support of his mother and it used to hurt me badly how she used to just talk about me even and my daughter even in my presence but as they say life is boring without some twists and turns in it.

Being with Justine and seeing how he protected me and stood by me made me realize they are two kinds of men in this world, those that love you but run as soon as trouble knocks on the door, these kinds are easily influenced by outside forces, they would rather please the world than the woman they claim to love.
Then they are those that love you enough to choose you over their own families. These kinds know what they want in a woman and when they find a woman they love, they stand on their ground no matter what kind of opposition they get. Justine fought his family so he could be with me he was willing to marry me against his mother’s wishes and that just made me stick by his side, so many times he got to prove his love for me. The seven months of being married to him have been awesome there was a never a time Tash and I ever felt unwanted.
I don’t really know what happened to Kathy but after seeing she couldn’t win the fight she disappeared from our lives, Lisa has just been Lisa even though we don’t argue as before there is just a bad vibe between us, she still thinks I can never be good enough for her brother but my mother in law on the other hand got to like me a bit especially when she found out I was carrying twins.

When the party ended I lay in bed as Justine m-ssaged my feet while Tash was busy talking about her presents, my baby could get a little dramatic at times despite having such a hectic day she just couldn’t sleep. I looked at her and I could see Dan in her she got most of features from him but even that didn’t, she was a happy soul that didn’t know anything about Dan the only father she has ever known is Justine, she is so crazy about him as he is crazy about her but I was sad because soon Dan might be a part of her life, he has been a constant trouble these few months and he even threatened to take custody of her but Justine said he would get me us a great lawyer.

I never knew men like Justine existed I thought they were only found in Books, there was no day I didn’t thank the lord for bringing me Justine, I remember the day we got married, I was the happiest woman in the world, to have had him, so many women wanted him but he wanted only me, I didn’t have to beg, fight or go and extra mile to have him, I just had him, as they say what’s yours will always be yours no matter what trials come along the way.
“Baby you look nice, turn around let see how cute you look” Chloe said on my wedding day, I hadn’t imagined I would go that road the second time so I was emotional that day.
I turned around for her and I could see how happy she was for me.
“Have you talked to Justine? Have they started off already? What time are we supposed to be at the church? I kept asking Chloe
“Calm down Pam everything will go as planned” she told me
The drive to the church where we were having our marriage blessed seemed to be long because I was anxious, anxious to see my husband, anxious to say our vows and anxious to show the world he was finally going to be mine.

When we reached the church and everyone was patiently waiting for me the few people on our lineup made their way in, then my niece all dressed in white with her hair tied in a pony got in before throwing petals.
A few minutes later, the music started: “Here comes the bride, here comes the bride” and Chloe held my hand as I walked the aisle in my vintage mermaid wedding dress, I was walking down this road for the second time and this time I knew the bond where were about to tie was going to be forever.
After the pastor said his sermons and prayers, it was time for the vows, Justine and I had decided on writing down our vows and memorize them before the wedding, we didn’t want the usual ones.
“The moment I set my eyes on you in that meeting, I knew I wanted to make you mine, I watched you make a presentation and I was impressed to know that behind that beautiful face was an intelligent lady. When I look at you, I see the rest of my life in your eyes and from this day henceforth I promise to love you till eternity, to hold your hand through life’s trials and to support your dreams till I die, with this ring accept my symbol of my love, honesty and commitment to you” he said
“Some men know how to impress women” I thought as he slid the ring onto my finger, then it was my turn.
“Where do I even start from? Justine you came in my life at a point when I was damaged beyond control, I had given up on life and love, I was laying on the mud because that’s what they said I belong but pulled my hand and I stood off the ground, you said not all men are jerks and you worked so hærd to prove that you were different, you believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself, when I was broke you k-ssed my scars and healed me, today I am different woman because of you, you have not only made me happy but you also made our baby happy. With this ring I vow to stand by you forever,” I said as tears streamed down my cheeks.

“Is there anyone who thinks these two should not get married? Speak now or forever hold your peace” The pastor said, he repeated this phrase again and when no one stood up he went ahead to bless our union.
“With the power vested in me, I now proclaim you husband and wife, you may k-ss the bride” he said
Justine spun me around then passionately k-ssed me as though it was just me and him in the room. Then everyone stood up and clapped for us as we made our way out of the church, later we had our lunch then went for photos, in the evening we changed our outfits and went to the venue, I liked how they decorated it in Royal Blue and Silver exactly how I had wanted it.

We made a grand entrance as we danced to Mama- We by Muzo, I danced like it was the first time I was getting married, it felt so great, Chloe being my matron also danced a great deal and before the night ended I played Justine a song that described him in my life. “Piece by Piece by Kelly Clarkson”
He gently squeezed my hand when he heard the lyrics because just like the song, Justine did restore my faith that a man can be kind and a father could stay, he proved that he loved and cared for me and that he will never leave me unlike my previous husband.
“Wake up l have prepared you some water to bath” Justine shook me then I instantly opened them with a smile on my face, realizing I was dreaming of my wedding day.
“What’s making you happy?”
“You my husband “I said while getting up.
