ROSE POV
I walked into the bar,drinking right now will be the only cure to preventing me from going crazy.
I sat on an empty seat while the waiter came to ask me for what I want.
I was having a brandy when some one came to sit beside me.
I looked up only to see Jack starring at me
“Why are you here?”I asked
“To have a drink, I didn’t want to be alone and so I saw you and came to you, drinking with the enemy is better than drinking alone”he said softly
“And when did I become an enemy” I asked
“Ever since you began to make Emily life a problem,you have been my enemy”he said
“Wow, how it all change and it’s because of Emily”I said wistfully
“Have we ever been friends?”he asked
“Of course we have, we worked together in pulling Andrea and max apart, we were great friends,don’t you remember?”I asked
“Of course I do And i do remember how great of a friend we were “he said giving me a shrewd look
“Am not talking to about that”I said softly
“Why? Isn’t it time we talk about what happen between us years ago” he asked
“It’s all in the past, let’s leave it that way”I said
“But I don’t want to,I want to talk about what happened between us years ago”he said
“We have nothing to talk about”I said trying to leave but he held me back
“We both had s€×! You and I both had s€× Rose, back then you were angry that Max wasn’t looking your way and I was Angry at life for making Andrea fall for Max and one thing led to another and we both had s€×, have you forgotten”He said
“Stop it Jack, am a married woman now and I regret what happened between us years ago”I said quickly
“I do too but have been meaning to ask you this, have there been any repercussion as to what we did on that day because I never used protection”he said
“There wasn’t any repercussion,so stop hassling me about the past and go to your Andrea instead”I said
“My Andrea! I wish I can fully embrace that word, she isn’t my Andrea,it’s more like our Andrea”he said softly
“And what do you mean by that?”I asked
“Why don’t you ask Max ,he will certainly tell you what I mean, good bye Rose,it was nice having this chat with you, now I can rest knowing the truth”he said and left the table
“Aren’t you going to pay?”I asked softly
“Pay for me, for old time sake”he said and left the bar
“What a jerk, he has trillion of money as it is and still he lets me pay his money”I muttered and some thing Jack said before he left got to me.
“Now I can rest knowing the truth!”
If only he knew the wh0le truth, I thought as I thought of what happened sixteen years ago
FLASH BACK
“I can’t believe this! Am pregnant”I muttered as I held the pregnancy test kit in my hand
Why did this have to happen now, not when am Inlove with Max , what am I going to do now, should I tell Jack about his child?
I thought as I walked about in my bed room
Just then I got a call and it was from Max father.
“Have found a way to separate Andrea and Max”He said
“Really?”I asked feeling happy
“Yes and so all you have to do now is to get close to Max, get close to him and make him fall for you, you are the daughter in law that I want not some gold digger” he said
“I will do my best sir”I replied and having got that call, I knew what to do.
As days went by I kept shut about me being pregnant and I watched how Andrea and Max got seprated, it was the best time ever and when he left for the states, I decided to follow him there.
At first he was rude to me and at every chance he got he made it clear to me that he will never love any one else but Andrea.
And so an when I got an opportunity,I snatched it right away, Max had been drunk on that night and so I helped him to his room ,taking off his clothes and mine too and I slept beside him making him think that we slept with each other.
I told him about the child and made him think that it belonged to him and wanting to do the right thing, Max married me.
PRESENT TIME
And I don’t regret it, it has keep me with Max all this years.
Have been the winner, the one who ended up with Max and that is some thing I don’t regret at all.
Just then my phone began to ring and it was Max
“Hello! have you finish reuniting with your long lost daugh………”
“Daniel was hit by a car and he is at the hospital right now”Max said
“What!!”I yelled out as I payed the bill and began to head out of the restaurant
“How did that happen?”I asked as I stood waiting for my car to arrive
“Just come to the hospital”he said and switch off the phone
“My son!”I cried softly and just then a car stopped in front of me and it was Jack
“Any thing the matter?”he asked
With out explaining,I got into his car and when he saw that I was crying, he knew it was serious
“Just take me to the hospital please”I said
MAX POV
I stood at the waiting room, while Daniel operation was being done.
When I got the call that Daniel was at the hospital,we all came to check on him and ever since we arrived, he has been in the operating room for hours .
“It’s going to be okay”Andrea said as she sat down next to me
“I hope so,I feel so guilty, have never been a father to Daniel and for the first in his life, he fell in love with some one and that girls turns out to be my daughter, it must really be hærd for him to take,this is all my fault “I said softly
“It’s not Max, you were just too busy to be there for him and him falling for Mary is not some thing we could prevent”she said softly
“Even Mary hates me”i said softly as I stared at Mary who sat at an empty chair,looking straight ahead.
“Mary doesn’t hate you Max ,she doesn’t”she said softly
“I hope I can believe that”I said
“Where is my child?”Rose asked as she ran towards us,I was surprised to see Jack with her
“He is being operated on as we speak”I replied softly
“What happen to him? How come he had an accident? What did you do to our son?”she said as she pulled my collar
“Max did nothing Rose! It’s just an ……….”
“Shut up! I wasn’t talking to you, you don’t have to right to speak when two married couples are talking”she yelled at Andrea
“Hey I accompanied you here because of your son, I won’t let you talk to Andrea in that way?”Jack said
“You all should shut up!!! It’s always been Andrea,have always been about her”she said as she kept on pulling my shirt
“Tell me what did you do to my son, you have never loved him, tell me what did you do to him!!!”she yelled again
“It’s all because of me!”Mary said gently
“What do you mean that its because of you?”Rose yelled still holding onto my shirt
“Daniel and I are dating each other but he found out today that we are both siblings and…….”
“Why would my son date you? He wouldn’t date some one he hates”Rose said
“What do you mean by that?”Andrea asked
“Though Max married me,he has never forgot you, your memory and his love for you have been the ghost haunting our marriage and Daniel knew about it and he hates you, am sure that he approached your daughter just to pay you back for every tears have shed”she said
I wasn’t able to give a response on that because the doctor walked out and quickly she let go of me and went to him
“What happen to my son doctor ?what happen to him”She asked
“He is still in a critical condition and right now we need blood,he his losing a lot of blood”he said
“Am his mother I can donate!”rose said quickly
“Yours won’t be enough, we will need more”the doctor said
“Take mine too, am his father”I said and Rose turned to stare at me
“Your blood won’t do Max”she said
“What do you mean?”
“You are not Daniel father”she said softly.

MAX POV
“What did you just say?”I asked starring at Rose who looked nervous and guilty
“I said you are not Daniel father, I was already pregnant before you married me, I made you think that you are father so I won’t lose you”She said
“What?”
“I know that what I did was wrong but the truth had to be told some day”she said crying softly
“Then who is the father?we have no time to waste, the sooner we know who the real father is the better for us all”the doctor said
“Yes! Tell us who the person is”I asked wanting to know who the person is
She stared at me and then at Jack who was standing close to Andrea.
“Jack is the father of Daniel, but how….. how come?”I asked
“You made it clear to me just this might that there were no repercussion?”Jack said
“There was, okay! I got pregnant and I didn’t tell you about it, I went to Max expecting your child and I lied just to get married to him and to be the winner and I won,I got Max after all”Rose said this starring at Andrea.
“Like have said, there is no time to waste here, the nurse will take you to a room for the blood transfusion”the doctor said and Rose along with the dumbfounded Jack walked off together.
Still feeling shocked, I went to sit on an empty chair.
“You never knew right?”Andrea asked as she sat down next to me
“I never knew,I never noticed, am such a fool”I said softly
“So you got married to Rose because you thought the child she was expecting was yours”she asked softly and i nodded
“Have been such a fool”she muttered and I stared at her.
“Why do you say that?”he asked
“I misjudged you Max, am sorry”she apologise softly and i nodded.
What I need right now is for Daniel to get well,even though am not his dad, I love him like he is mine and that will never change.
I looked at Mary only to see her starring at me.
She is the only child I have and knowing that she hates me makes me feel so scared, what will I do to convince her that am not a bad guy.
ANDREA POV
“So how do you feel knowing you are a father for real?”I asked Jack as we sat at a table in the hospital cafeteria having coffee
“Bad, what hurts most is that I never knew,I never knew about my child existence” he said reminding me of Max.
He also didn’t know about Mary existence,is this how he feels, I thought as I kept on starring at Jack
“I don’t know how James will react when he knows that Daniel is my son, ever since they met,they have been enemies and though James is not my son,I love him like he is “He added
“And so? What are you going to do?”is okay Jack, every thing will be fine and I will be here to help”I said softly and he stared at me
“Are you sure? Don’t you want to get back with Max?”he asked
For a while I thought of his question but remembering the determined look on Max face made me realise that there will never be a chance for the two of us
“I don’t plan to, I plan to stay with you, after all you are the one am dating and what you saw at the house the other day is not……..”
“I believe you, you don’t have to explain ,sorry I behaved that way,I was just so mad with jealousy”he said interrupting me
“I know and I under stand you but to make things clear, Max will be coming to our house more frequently, he will want to get close to Mary”I said and he nodded
“Am fine with that, though this is all a shock to me,I will also like to know Daniel more, after all he is my son”he said and I gave him a smile.
MARY POV
I sat on an empty seat with my grand ma still waiting for news about Daniel
When I first learnt that he was my brother,I was so sad and angry at life for having made me fall for my brother and some how I hated Max for being Daniel father and also my father but it all changed when Daniel mom made it clear that my father isn’t Daniel father.
I was happy,happy that Daniel and I aren’t siblings and also sad for Daniel who have been lied to all his life, I wonder what will happen when he wakes up and find out that Max isn’t his father and that his mother had lied to him all his life.
“Can I talk to Mary for a while?”I looked up only to see Max standing in front of me and taking permission from My grand ma
“Do you want to talk to him?”my grand mother asked and i nodded,she stood up,giving us the privacy we needed
“Are you still angry about me being your father?”he asked
“At first I was because you were the father of Daniel but discovering that you are not his father, my anger for you calmed a bit but I still don’t like you, you made my mom suffer and me too”I said softly
“Believe me Mary if I could turn back the clock, I will surely do it, I never knew of your existence and me parting from your mom was to protect her “he said looking sincere
“And have you told this to mom, she doesn’t thinks some thing else”I said
“I already told her Mary and she has forgive me though I can’t ever forgive my self?”he Said
“Why?”
“I was suppose to be with your mom, when she needs me most but I wasn’t there,I was with Rose whose child I believed to be mine and that is some thing I will keep on regretting till I die”he said and some how I felt sorry
“You don’t have to feel sorry, though I missed having a father,I am fine and though mom never showed it, I could tell that she was some how waiting for you to return”I said
“Why do you say that?”he asked
“Well for Instance, she never dated any one and if some one showed an interest in her, she would only give them a cold shoulder, some times I thought she was frigid but it was later that I got to realise that she was just doing it because she knew you would be back some day”I said
“But I came late right? She is now with Jack and I don’t intend to intrude, all I want right now is to get to know you Mary, will you give me that chance”he asked and I stared at him , thinking about what he asked
Should I just give him a chance? I thought as I stared at him for a long time.
“Fine then,I will also like to know you”I said and he gave me a hug
I hope am doing the right thing, I thought with in me .
ANDREA POV
I walked into the chapel only to see Rose siting there crying softly.
Seems like her son injury got to her, I thought as I sat down next to her.
She stared at me and then she stared away.
“Why are you here?”she asked
“To pray?”I replied
“Pray for what exactly? For my son to die?”,
“No for your son to live, no matter how much I dislike you, I can never wish harm on your son”I said softly
“Then do that some where else, I don’t want you doing it beside me “she said looking away feeling embarrassed
“I can’t? “I replied
“Why?”
“Because you need some one to talk to, crying all alone in the chapel won’t solve a thing ” I said and she stared at me for a long time and then she began to cry again.
I pulled her to me and hugged her until she stopped crying.
“Am sorry? Have never cried like that for a while now?”she said
“What do you mean by for a while now?” I asked
“What do you think my marriage to Max have been like, it hasn’t been a colourful one, every day I keep on shedding tears and that’s because Max have never for once forgotten you “she said
“Me?”
“You were the ghost haunting our marriage and it has been hell and I regret it too, if I had known that my life will turn out this way, I would have never married Max or try to take him from you, he was yours to begin with, he will never be mine because his heart still belongs to you”she said starring at me.
