ANDREA POV
For the first time in a while, I woke up feeling very sad.

I took my bathe and prepared myself for school

The house was so busy with the memorial service of Nick’s brother.

I walked out of the house only to see Max outside the house.

He was speaking on the phone all dressed up for school but when he saw me he paused and stared at me.

“So let’s keep our distance from now on” remembering his words, I looked away and walked down the street.

I was still walking off when his car passed me,it took me a wh0le will of power not to look at it.

I got to school still feeling sad,I tried to cheer myself up by muttering to myself

“It’s okay Andrea, you can live with it, you must keep your distance from him, you were okay without him in your life, you will okay,you can do it”I said softly

“What do you keep on muttering to yourself?”Jack asked as he came to stand beside me

“Why do you like to sneak up on me?”I asked as I gave him an angry glare.

“Am sorry then,I didn’t mean to do that!”he said

“Just go away”I said as I walked off with him still following me.

Class today went great and though I tried to be happy,I couldn’t be and am glad that no one noticed my sad mood.

“I heard it was the memorial service of Max brother, why don’t we go and say hello”Beatrice said

“That will be a good idea, though Max is an ingrate, we should go and say hello, at a time we all knew Nick”Brenda added .

I looked at Max who was sitting at the front doing his stuff as usual.

Just then I saw Rose walk up to him and she said something to him, smiling and laughing at him and in return he gave her a white envelope and stood up.

“So what do you say, should we all go for the visit?”Beatrice asked

“Count me out”Jack said and put his head on his desk

“And me too”I replied and unknown to me, Max who was walking off stopped after hearing what I said

“But why? You and Max are more close”Beatrice asked

“I have things to do,very important things”I said and saw Max leaving the class without looking back.

As I waited for the bus to take me home, I remembered that Beatrice and the rest were going to Max house and wanting to buy time for themselves. I tried to think of somewhere to go and just then an idea popped into my head.

The bus stopped me right at the cemetery and with my flowers in hand,I went to the familiar grave of Nick.

“Hello”I said as I knelt to put the flower on his grave

“Have you been doing well?”I asked gently car-ssing the grave

“And have been doing well too, your brother too, though he tries to hide it, he still hurt by your death but you should try to comfort him a little, your comfort is what he needs right now!”I said gently

“I can’t give him that because we are no longer friends and I don’t think we will ever be again, this might even be the last time I come here, so try to look at me well enough before I leave”I said

“I don’t know what went wrong or what caused you to die but I know that you are in a better place and it will only be fair if you watch over your brother and give him the peace he needs, I beg you Nick, let Max be happy once again”I said as I stood up

“You might be wondering what I am to him to come ask you for this but you don’t have to know,the only thing I can say is that am someone who cares, goodbye Nick”I said and turned only to see Max behind me watching me

From the way he was standing I felt that he had been listening to all my conversation.

Without saying anything to him, I walked past him and headed out of the cemetery.

Why had he chosen to come now, I thought as I began to head off quickly.

I was still walking off when someone held my hand.

Thinking it was Max,I turned only to see a man looking all dirty and smelly

“Give me some money”he said staring at me

“I don’t have any money”I said softly, the money I had with me was my transport fare and i can’t afford to give it away,I thought

The man pushed me to the wall roughly and moved his dirty face close to me

“Since you don’t have money, why don’t I take something else from you”he said as he put his hand under my skirt

“Let me go!”I yelled trying to pull away

“You look delicious, you will be mine for tonight”He said as he began to pull me off

“Let me go, let me go”I kept yelling hoping that someone will come to my aid and someone did come

Max kicked the man and he fell right on the floor and didn’t even move..

“Come on, let’s get out of here”he said as he pulled my hand and together we ran off.

It wasn’t until we were at a distance that I noticed our linked hands.

Quickly I pulled away from him and began to walk off

“Andrea? Andrea?”He called and when I didn’t answer he came to pull me by my hand

I pulled my hand off his for the second time and stared at him

“Are you okay?”

“Why do you ask? Is it in order to tell me how I annoy you ?”I asked

“Andrea I………”

“You said I was a loser,you said I annoy you ,then what are you doing with a loser and someone that annoys you?”I asked as the tears have been holding kept spilling out

“For a while I thought that I have finally met someone who understands me, who knows how I feel, who is a best part of me but it turns out that I was wrong, I was never a thing to him” I said as I kept on crying

He walked towards me trying to hug me but I pushed him away

“No more Max, just as you have said, let’s keep our distance, just as I am nobody to you,you are nobody to me too”I said as I walked off angrily.

I got to the bus station and waited for the bus to arrive and when it did arrive,I was so lost in thought that if a lady hadn’t tap me,I would have missed the bus.

MAX POV

As soon as I saw her walk in ,I hid myself so she wouldn’t see me and it seemed like she didn’t even notice me at all.

Because she was looking so sad that she hærdly noticed me.

Did I cause that? Was my words too harsh for her cope with,I thought

“You said I was a loser,you said I annoy you ,then what are you doing with a loser and someone that annoys you?”

Yes my words had definitely hurt her,I thought as I kept on watching her.

I didn’t mean any of it ,I was just so furious at what Jack said and furious with myself too.

She had come at a bad time and I had lashed out at her before I realised what I was doing.

I wanted to apologise to her, that was why I waited for her this morning by the gate but the look she gave me made me lose courage to do so.

I didn’t want to participate in the luxurious memorial service given to Nick by my mother so I went to his grave yard and I didn’t expect to see Andrea there.

Seeing her there only made me worry about how I treated her last night.

The bus stopped and I waited for her to get down.

She kept on going while I followed her from behind.

We got to the estate that will take us to the house when suddenly Jack stood in front of her

I quickly hid behind a tree staring at the two of them.

I felt so angry and jealous that I wanted to go to them but I held back and stayed hidden in the Shadows.

ANDREA POV
I walked all the way from the bus station to the estate that led to Max house.

I was about to get in when Jack walked out startling me.

“Andrea? Why are you here? You said you weren’t going to come”He asked

At first i was lost for words but I quickly thought of some thing

“I changed my mind, what about you? Why are you here?”I asked

“Well I changed my mind too, Nick was a close friend of mine and it wouldn’t be right If I didn’t show up because of the rift between Max and I”He said.

“What are you two even quarreling about?”i asked

“Some thing that has nothing to do with you”He said as ruffled my hair.

“Stop it”I said pushing his hand away.

“Are you heading home now?”He asked

“Yes ,I am”I replied

“Instead of going home,why don’t we do some thing else” he said giving me a smile

“What do you …………wait Jack, where are you taking me to?”I asked as I was pulled off

We got to a game store in town and he pulled me in.

“Why are we here?”I asked.

“To have fun, you have been looking a bit down this morning and you are not saying no,Common”he said as he pulled me in.

Having no option, we played all the games and I wouldn’t deny that I had a lot of fun.

We ended the day by visiting a chicken restaurant,We ate so much that I feel that if am not careful, I might Burst.

“Thank you”i said as he walked me to the villa

“For what?”

“For making me feel good, you were the only one who noticed that I was feeling a bit sad today, that’s so thoughtful of you, thanks Jack”I said

“I don’t want your thanks Andrea”he said suddenly and I stopped to stare at him

“What do you want then?”

“Treat me out some other time,it’s only right that you pay for what I did for you today”

“I should have known, you will never do something for free?”I said as punched him lightly.

“My Car is parked just down there, I would have love to take you home but I still have some where to go?”he said

“Don’t worry,I can go home by myself, thanks for today,bye”I said feeling relieved that he didn’t offer to take me home.

As soon as his car was gone, I took the route back to Max house

It was quiet when I got back, seems like the memorial service has end, I thought as I head for the maid quaters.

I was passing through the garden when I heard Max voice

“Would it really take someone this long to get back from a grave yard?”He asked

I turned to look at him, he was sitting on the chair

“Where did you go to?” He asked as he walked towards me

“And how does that matter to you?”I asked

“Andrea I……….”

“We are not friends or any thing else , am just a worker in your house and as you have said that we should keep our distance, I hope you keep to your word”I said turning to leave only to pulled back by him

“Andrea I…….”

Still feeling hurt by what he said to me I pulled away from him

“Stop it! Just stop it okay ,you said I should stay away and that is what am doing, What more do you want?”I asked

“Andrea is that you?” my mom call stopped him from replying

“Yes it’s me”I said as i went to her

“Good evening ” Max greeted as he came towards us

“Evening young master, why are you two here?” she asked

“I just ran into him mom, let’s go back in”I said as I walked her to our quaters, leaving Max standing there

THE NEXT DAY
MAX POV
“I can’t believe that she has gone, when did she even leave”I muttered to myself as I drove off to school alone.

I had woken up early just so I can speak to her before we head back to school.

I waited and waited for her and when she never showed up, I knew that she had left already.

I drove into the school premises and got out of the car.

I have made up my mind to tell her the wh0le story of Nick death and if her reaction turns out good then that will mean that she accept me but if it doesnt then………….i shouldn’t be thinking of that,I thought as I walked past some students who was gawking at me.

I went past some other students and saw them starring at me too

What’s going on, why is every one looking at me?

I know that am well popular amongst the girls but the look that they are giving me is quite different from the way they have always stared at me before.

“I can’t believe that he is taken again”A student muttered as she walked past me

“Hey Max! Hey Max, you really are some thing”Geoffrey said as he ran towards me to hug me

“Get your hands off”I said

“Why? Aren’t we friends now?”he asked

“We aren’t”I said as I moved out of his reach.

“Well that aside, why didn’t you tell us?’He said

“Tell you what?”

“That you are dating Rose again and that Andrea is dating Jack”He said

“What rubbish are you saying?”I asked

“It’s not rubbish, it’s the latest trend in the school page”he said as he showed me a picture.

I took the phone from him and saw an old picture of myself with Rose and then a picture of Jack ruffling Andrea hair with the both of them smiling.

“Old relationsh¡p is back on and a new relationsh¡p has just started” the caption under it said

“Who on earth did this?”I asked

“What happen? Is it not true?”Geoffrey asked as he took his phone from me

I wasn’t bothered by the picture of Rose and I, I was worried about Andrea and Jack, could it be true.i thought as I head straight to class.

ANDREA POV
“This is not true! How many times do I have to tell you this”I said to the students who gathered around Jack and i

“But you are even sitting together and the pictures would never lie” A student said

“Just come out clean with us already ,I also want to know if it’s true”Beatrice asked

“This is nerve wrecking”I muttered slowly and then I stared at Jack who was obviously enjoying this charade

“Say some thing will you! Tell them we are nothing to each other”I said hitting him

“What should I say? If they won’t believe you then why would they believe me and besides the pictures are not a lie “He said adding more problem to the situation.

“They are dating!!!!”the students said as they all began to talk at once

“What about you Rose! Are you and Max back together?”A student asked Rose who was busy with her stuff

“I think that is a matter that should be kept between me and Max”She said

“She is really dating him”they all said

“Look at her being arrogant about it!”Beatrice whispered for our ears only

I sat thinking about Max and Rose, when I first heard the news,I was more worried about Max and Rose than about my relationsh¡p with Jack.

I knew that the two of them would end up being with each other but some how I had wished for it not to be true.

“Hey guys Max is here!!!!”a student said as she ran into the class.

I looked up to see him walk into the class, he didn’t even spare me a glance.

He went to Rose and stood in front of her “we have to talk “He said

“About what? You can say it here”Rose replied.

“What we have to talk about is important”He said and without waiting for her reply, he pulled her off

“It is true”the students muttered amongst themselves as we stared at them

Is he really dating Rose? I thought sadly

“It’s enough guys,go back to your class, whatever is going on between me and Andrea is none of your business” Jack said

“These two are dating too ” they muttered as they all left the class

“Won’t you make an exception and tell us?”Beatrice asked

“There is really nothing going on between us”I said and left the class too.
