Katsy episode 2

KATSY
Episode 2
By Amah

Hello… this is Desmond resident. Who’s on the line please?

The receiver was a female who sound so polished with a tick accent. From her voice I can tell that she is the serious type and does not have time to waste.

“Good day madam. My name Katsy Lukas and I’m calling to confirm of the job interview tomorrow….I want to know if is still going to hold…

“Yes it is. The interview start at exact 1pm… this is to allow anybody coming from a long distance to arrive in time before we commence. You have to be here by the agreed time because I’m a very busy person.

“Alright… thank you ma’am.

“Your welcome Kay-se. See you tomorrow then.

I can sense her smile as she made the last statement which made me wonder why she suddenly appear so polite.
Most bosses does not see the need to be nice to job seekers or even their employees.

Anyway I shouldn’t conclude yet on the kind of person she might be until tomorrow.

I have looked forward to getting a decent job in a long time after quiting from the Cole’s but none was favorable until Julie my best friend told me about this one and without wasting time I applied via email and in no time I was invited for interview which I looked forward to.

As I was checking for what to wear, I hærd the door opened. I knew my Dad and brother have returned from the shop.
They came in rather early today, I have not even started dinner yet.

I came out to welcome them and just a mare look on their faces I can tell the day has not been pleasant.

My brother Jon dumped a bag on the ground before sitting hærd on our half torn cushion.
I went to pick up the bag so that I can put it at the right place.
Jon yawn tiredly before saying.

“Hey Kat… have you made dinner because I’m famished…

He said while relaxing back.

I ignored him and face Dad who also sat hærd on another worn out chair in our small sitting room. He turned to me and said.

“Have you started dinner? Aside the tea we took in the morning before leaving for the store we haven’t tasted any other thing all through the day. There was no single sales today… it was pointless sitting in the shop all day with empty stomach, that was why we decided to come home…

My dad’s aging face was line with worries, his gray hair was multiplying by the day. He doesn’t look like a man in his early fifties he look like a seventy years old man.

“I never knew you will be back this early…is just 4:56pm. I normally start dinner by 5:30 and sometimes 6.oclock because you and Jon usually come home by seven o’clock but I will start right away. I was busy getting myself ready for my interview tomorrow…

Jon laughed out before saying

“Don’t get too anxious or excited over becoming a maid for some rich family…

I hushed him quickly.

“Shut up Jon. This is not just any kind of maid…the Desmonds want a professional housekeeper and aside the pay which maybe mouth watering I was also hoping to get connection for my modeling career.

Dad spoke in my defense while relaxing back.

“Jon, let your sister be.

Jon stood up to take water to drink. After gulping down a cup of water he turned to me and said.

“Your last experience with the Cole family won’t be something to be proud of Kat. I’m not trying to discourage you but you can find a better job… something you will be proud to boast off. If somebody ask you what you do for a living… you can boldly say with pride what you actually do. nothing to be ashamed of…but how will you be able to say that you are a maid…”professional” one at that… scrubbing the floor, cooking and cleaning somebody’s toilet…

“I’m still proud of it and my prayers and hope is that I will be fit for the job. I will be able to save enough money and start up something for myself.

Jon scuff and said with a surrending tone.

“Good luck with that”.

I later made dinner and got myself set for the next day.

I spoke with Julie that evening and she wished me luck with the interview.

The following day I got set, I kept whispering positive things to myself that morning which made me wonder if is all because of an ordinary housekeeping job which was another word for a maid that was making me uptight.
Anyway, is not that ordinary when it comes to working for such important and well to do family.

When I got to the interview address, the building was magnificent. I stood and admire such a creative architectural work on it.

I was ushered into a waiting room where two ladies and a young man were already there before me even though i was 30minutes early.
Everyone of them look so professional. They were corporatively dressed as if they came for a bank interview.
I was well dressed too, I feel good with myself as I held a small folder containing my credentials on my laps.
After sometime, two other lady with another young man came in.
One of the lady’s wore a short skimpy gown which was displaying her th-gh and cle-vage. She had a heavy makeup on her face. She sat with her legs crossed while she admire the entire room where we all sat.

This job is indeed a serious one. I was already loosing my confidence.
The caliber of people coming for the interview makes me wonder if I have any chance of getting the job. Although my chances are very slim I still try to keep my hopes alive.

Seeing the beautiful house alone was a big motivation for me to not give up.

We all sat quietly, minding our business and waiting for whoever will interview us.

And the first person was called upon, she smiled her way in.
But within few second she came out with a frown plastered all over her. . the second person went in and came out in no time. She muttered some cursed words as she walked out angrily.

I was beginning to get uncomfortable, my two palms were sweating. Even the tiny hope I had earlier has left me.
The people who looks more professional than I am are walking away and it was obvious they were disqualified.

I was supposed to be the next to go in but the skimpy dressed lady who was among the last approached me.

“Hello…my name is Natasha but my friends calls me Tasha. I know you are the next to go in… please allow me to take your place. My grandma is in the hospital and I need to see her in the next one hour or she will die… let me go in now so that i can be interviewed and I will be able to meet up with my dying grandma.

Her request was absurd yet I couldn’t say no to her especially since her grandmother was dying. I was already eager to go in but I have to take Natasha’s place. Maybe with that I will be able to calm my racing heart.

Natasha went in and she didn’t come out immediately like others did. I waited for more minutes before she came out smiling.
She looked at me and said.

“I’m sorry, I was asked to tell the rest of you to go home. I got the job… I’m so happy. The interview has ended… your presence is no longer needed. I’m going to celebrate with my boyfriend. I’m sorry that I lied but you have to use what you have to get what you want. I lied about my dying grandma. I was already getting impatient and my makeup was fading off. Anyway sorry about that. I’m really excited that I got the job. I will live in this big mansion and with their connection my musical career will kick off….

I was just seated there with my mouth open as she walked away.
After everyone left I was still sitting not knowing what to do.
I can’t believe that after the long hour of waiting, I was dismissed just like that. I didn’t even get the chance to be interviewed.
I picked up my folder with a heavy heart and decided to go back home.
I was angry as I walk away and my anger was more on Natasha who lied to me or maybe I should channel the anger on the Desmonds for picking such a lying maid and kicking the rest of us out.

I hate to blame myself for any of this but is actually my fault. If I turned her down and not feel Sorry with her pitiful grandmother story I would have gotten a chance to be interviewed.

My hopes of connecting with a an important personality who will help my modeling dream just came crushing.

By the way, what does Natasha mean by “using what she has to get what she want”?

That girl will rot in hell for what she did to me.

I was boiling angrily as I stood to take my leave.
