Everything I read had literally flown out of my head
I started staring like a head of fish

I blurt out in desperation
Everyone took a loud gasp

” for one, it’s not healthy, it smells awful just the way a mixture of chicken and turkey poop would smell, honestly I really pity the Jss 3 students that has the class not very far from it, no wonder they’re getting incredibly fat, if you really want me to talk about health, I’m sorry but that’s greatest health issue we have in school, thank you ”
I walk back to my seat with my head held high
Even though I didn’t receive a round of applause

No one made a sound after I finished my speech,

Jerry stood up and started a long speech, backing his speech with scientific research

He started listing different points and explaining them one by one
I didn’t know when I pointed my hand at him

The biology teacher, Mr Matthew walked up the stage, he adjusted his spectacles in his typical way and cleared his throat
” the qualifiers have been concluded

I think I didn’t hear that well?

A smile came to my face immediately and Donald looked at me, I scowled at him and avoid his gaze
” in all the speeches I’ve heard today, there is none that is well delivered and sincere like that of miss Ngozi, and the school poultry will be closed immediately ”
People started jubilating wildly
” Ngo, you’re not good oh, you’ve spoiled Mr Smith’s extra business ”
Kate said as soon as she could make it to my seat
” wait till all those boys that use to steal chicken after closing catch you ”
Bukky added
” congratulations once again”
Mr Matthew said
I noticed Mr Smith isn’t around, he has been acting differently since Amanda’s expulsion
I’m just glad that everything is finally okay
” sir, you didn’t tell us what we’re going to be doing for the mr/miss humanity competition tomorrow ”
Francis asked
“you see, humanity can never be a competition, the competition ended today, humanity is all about the ways of we humans, tomorrow all you have to do is come to school, and each student will write a short note about why they like you and want you to be king or queen, remember you can’t force people to like you, it’s a choice, they can only vote for one king and one queen, anyone that votes for two people will be disqualified, and the winner will be announced on Thursday which is the day of the gala ”

I am losing my mind
Dad was pacing back and forth, all his efforts to make me eat had been in vain
He sat down on the chair and switch on the television
Her was about to change the channel when a news headline catches may attention
‘ severe motor accident as truck crushes girl in platinum road ‘
I didn’t know when I scre-med when I saw the gory sight of Tife’s body
I opened my mouth in shock
” jamilah! Jamilah!! jamilah!!!
I went into a sort of paralysis
It just felt like dad wasn’t speaking to me
He feel him lift me up and the next thing I know, we were in the car he was driving with great speed
Tony’s pov

I sit beside the girl in the hospital bed, even the stitches at the left side of her face could conceal her beauty, she has a creamy skin and shapely curves that even the drab hospital gown couldn’t hide, she was a mystery, every now and then I would catch a silly smile on her face and as if by some sort of magnetic pull I will smile back like an idiot
But what pains me the most is the sadness I could see in her eyes at times, her chocolate brown eyes will be filled with so much pain, so much sorrow and it makes me wonder the sort of tragedy that could have befallen her
It’s just so painful that this beautiful, amazing girl has no memory
I really want to help her
But I can’t
I have no stable financial means of income
And the little money I have in my account is the one that I’m using to sort her expenses
” she’s lucky not to have any severe brain damages, temporary memory loss is common in most accident cases, but I’m sure she’ll regain it back in no time, she has a very strong immune system but it’s likely that the left side of her face will be scarred forever, she has a cut in her left leg and some bruises but it’s not anything serious, but there are some things that could actually help in jogging her memory, you can play some music and see if she sings along but just don’t make it loud, it will actually help her if she’s able to connect the song to anything that might have happened to her in the past ”
One of the nurses said
I brought out my phone and began to play Don moen ‘s river of life
I didn’t get any reaction from her
Maybe she’s not a church girl
I change it to another song and begin to sing
She wan break up with her boyfriend cause of me

She gave me a sassy smile and her eyes twinkled in recognition but she still didn’t sing
I play another song
This one has a fast beat
I could tell that she didn’t want to sing, but in the end she couldn’t resist it
I listen to her sweet voice as she sang naira Marley’s tesumole

Tife’s pov
All my body feels weak
My left leg is aching badly
Some people say I have an iron head
A smile came over my face as I remember how growing up with my siblings was like
Anyone that jams head with mine will have headache for three days
Everyone avoided my head
There was even a day that I fell down from a big mango tree and landed with my head, I just had a small bruise and no further complications.
I know what you’re thinking
Do I really have memory loss?
Of course not!
But do you know the reason why I pretended to have one?
It’s very simple
I don’t want to go back to Mandy!
My wh0le life is now based on uncertainty
And Tony’s sympathy and empathy
For the first time in my life someone was actually doing a great favour for me and I don’t have to pay any price.

I watch Ngozi swing the skipping rope and started jumping up and down with glee!
She was dressed in a body hugging jump suit that outlined all her curves, her silky black hair went haywire but she didn’t seem to mind
Her leg tripped and she stopped

My little brother David said and took the rope from her
” Ngozi!, shame no dey catch you, na small small children like David and chioma you dey follow skip ”
Kate yelled from a distance

She fired back
My head still hurt from the hærd knock she gave me after my speech
She came to sit beside me in the verandah
She was breathing heavily
Her chest was rising and falling

I went in,side and got her a bottle of water
She drank it in gulps

It seems that I and zee has formed some kind of bond
Even if the thought of her being Donald’s girlfriend sickens me
I know I have to tread cautiously with her
Because her stubbornness ehn, no be for here
” Zee, so how’s your boyfriend? ”
I didnt expect her sharp intake of breath and stared at me like I’ve grown two heads

I said solemnly, but deep down I was jubilating, perhaps I can finally put my heart at rest that zee is safe from Donald’s clutches
But deep down I know that isn’t true
My nightmares get scarier with each passing day
And everyone of them was about Donald and zee
“Zee, please for your own safety, please stay away from Donald, I always have nightmares about you and you obviously know that my dreams always come to pass but I don’t want this one to come to pass, Zee please promise me that you’ll stay away from him ”

I became very angry

I just can’t fold hands and watch anything happen to Zee
