Alice was silent. She didn’t know what to say. She smiled and made to brushed it off.

“Honey…did you fell for my jokes? I was only pulling your legs. Of course I knew who she is. She’s Cindy, your friend, right?” She said but deep down, she’s feeling jealous.

Samuel looked at her with a questioning look. He knew exactly what to say but decided to play along.

‘I’d see where this leads to.’ He thought.

“Alice… What happened to our once sweet happy marriage?” He asked calmly.

She looked away not knowing what to say.

“It better you tell me whatever it is you are keeping away from me now before it’d be too late. The reason you’re stalking me is still very much unknown to me ’cause I’ve been a faithful husband to you and I’d forever be. But, Alice are you still my wife? Are you still the wife I got married to?” Samuel asked doubts written in his voice.

Alice was feeling a lot of guilt as she heard him talk.

Samuel quietly left her and went to their room.

Alice bursted into tears when Samuel left.

“George… It shall not be with you for making me like this. Oh…I can’t forgive myself. I’m doomed. My end is near. Now my husband is now doubting me…I am now a wife that keeps secret away from her husband. This isn’t me…” she said amidst tears.

Emmanuel had called Cindy to asked her about what his sister said. And she had explained everything for him. Emmanuel himself knew who Samuel is which made him stopped doubting his girlfriend.

After talking for some minutes., the call ended.

He breathed out and smiled.

“There’s no time to waste time anymore. I’m making a move this coming week. You’d be mine soon Cindy.” He declared and punched the air happily.

Thomas called Philip to remind him of the proposed plan.

He couldn’t just believe he, of all people could be doing this to a fellow human.

“A pastor’s son….I can’t believe I’m doing this. But it’s for love anyways. I love her…yeah I do. I can’t till tomorrow.” he thought happily and smiled.

“Brother you just smiled..” Joy said. She has been watching him…

“What are you doing here?”

“Just passing by.” Joy replied.

“Then pass by already. Go ”

“Why were you smiling?”

“Tomorrow is Sunday, right?” He asked.

“Yeah. Is that the reason?”

“Of course… It worth it, right?”

“You’re right. In the presence of our Lord, of course there must be fullness of joy.” Joy quoted.

“Get me some fruits.” He said.

“Right away.” She said and walked out of his room.

Alice called one of the doctor she has some things with.

She sighed heavily. She was feeling so weak as she dragged herself upstairs.

“Honey..I’m planning to go into in vitro fertilization again.”

He gave no response.

She walked closer to him and saw that he was fast asleep.

“He should rest. I caused him a lot of silly problems today. Sorry darling.” She said as she covered him well with the white duvet.

She walked into the bathroom afterwards.

Sunday Noon.

After the service , everyone was exchanging pleasantries cheerfully.

Cindy’s parents went to great the pastor – Pastor Walter.

Cindy was surrounded by choirs they were discussing about their coming choir anniversary.

After thirty minutes, they were done. Her parents came out of the pastor’s office and told her they were going home.

“Wait please..” She said hurriedly packing her bag.

Just then, Philip came to them. He greeted Cindy’s parents respectfully and turned to Cindy.

“Can I see you for some sec?” He asked politely.

Cindy looked at her parents who were obviously looking at them too.

“I’m.. we’re about to go.” she said confused on the reason the pastor’s son would want to see her.

“Erm…you can see him. We’d be waiting in the car.” Lawyer James said leading the way out of the church.

Mrs Veronica spared them a minute look before following her husband.

Cindy hurriedly left Philip after giving him her number to meet her parents.

She got to the car and entered sitting at the back seat.

“He asked to be my friend.” Cindy said.

“Really?? Unbelievable” mrs Veronica exclaimed

“Why would he wanna be your friend all of a sudden after many years we’ve been in this church?” Lawyer James asked puzzled.

“Who knows..” She said while her phone rang.

“Just be careful.” Mrs Veronica said cautiously.

“Excuse…wanna pick this call.” She said as she placed the phone on her right ear.

Lawyer James ignited the car and drove away.

Philip on the other hand was happy like someone who just won lottery.

He punched the air and hugged himself.

He had just took the first step according to what Thomas outlined for him.

“be friendly with her. Friendsh¡p come first.” He had told him.

“Brother, mum wants you in the vestry.” Joy said.

He got hold of himself and followed her.

“I’m curious…” Joy said looking at him.

“Curiosity will kill you.” Philip said.

“You’re Happy.”

“Ain’t you happy too?”

“Of course I am. But yours is surprising . what’s the good news? I promise to keep it a secret.” Joy said.

Philip gave her no response as he kept on walking.

Joy pouted like a baby and held his hands still troubling him as they walked into the vestry.

“Step one succeeded!!!” He thought loudly and smiled.

Monday Noon.

Cindy decided to visit her friend, Ellen during lunch. She walked out of the ward tiredly as the two nurses she just working with walked passed her bowing.

She waved at them in response and collided with Doctor Samuel.

“Ops…sorry doctor.” She apologized after regaining her balance.

“It’s alright. You’re in for lunch today?” He asked.

“Not really. I’m visiting a friend but I’d be back soon.” She said.

“Okay. Take care and be time conscious.” Samuel said giving her a side hug before leaving.

She smiled and continued her walk. Samuel had called her the previous day to ask about how her boyfriend – Emmanuel reacted.

And she had told him not to worry. That all was absolutely alright.

She got to her car and drove out of the hospital building.

Alice rushed out of the house in her car…she was damn late.

Her phone rang beside her, even without checking, she knew it would be George.

She picked it slowly..’cause she dare not pick it.

📞do not bother apologizing, you’d be punished. You bloody b’tch.

The call ended.

Alice sighed bitterly.

“Can’t believe I’m doing this…what if I get into an accident? Won’t my husband ask me where I was heading to? Or what if any bad thing just happen to me in that f’cking room…won’t I be questioned? Gosh! I hate my life.” Alice muttered driving faster.

She was was forced to use the hotel’s parking lot and she parked behind a car, not giving the car any space which it could drive out with. She totally forgot about parking some distance away from the hotel due to her lateness.

She hurriedly came out of the car almost stumbling but lucky she didn’t fell.

She didn’t bother going to the receptionist again as the tiny lady already knew she’s their regular customer. Alice went straight to their room.

A slap came across her face immediately she entered. She held her left cheek in total pain tears threatening to fall anytime soon.

“You this stupid good for nothing woman! How dare you keep me waiting here? Huh?
Shouldn’t you be the one to wait for me? You are so dead today.” George ranted as he pushed her to the bed.

Her bag fell on the floor. He kicked her shoe off and got rid of her clothes. He made sure she was fully unclad before removing his clothes too.

Alice couldn’t utter a word. All she does was to cry bitterly blaming herself for her bad luck.

He grinned evilly at her before sliding into her causing her to mo-ned loudly.

He pounded heavily into her with hærd thr-sts making Alice to cry more.

“What should I offer you babe?” Ellen asked immediately they finished exchanging pleasantries.

“I’d go with hamburger and lemonade.” Cindy replied happily.

“I missed you a lot my dear.” Ellen said sitting beside Cindy.

“Same here too. How’s Canada?” Cindy asked facing her.

“Oh…it was okay. I didn’t go there to have fun anyways. It’s all about work. But now, it’s fine.” Ellen said typing some number on the telephone beside her.

☎Bring me hamburger and lemonade.

“All thanks to God my dear.” Cindy said.

“How’s Emmanuel? Gist me now. What’s happening?” Ellen giggled.

“He is fine sweetie. and what should I gist you about?” Cindy smiled.

“Everything…are you still our…?” She asked looking in between her th-gh.

Cindy slapped Ellen’s th-gh playfully.

“Don’t be silly.” Cindy said while they laughed loudly.

A knock was heard on the door.

“Yes, come in.” Ellen said.

A dark complexioned waitress walked in gently taking her steps.

She placed the tray containing what they asked for on the table.

“Thank you dear.” Cindy said.

The waitress bowed and left.

“Eat your food.” Ellen said.

“I have to ’cause we’re on break. And I gotta leave before it’d be over.” Cindy said eating already.

“You should have come after work so we could talk at length or better still sleep over here.” Ellen said.

“Really? I should sleep over here and not go to work tomorrow.”

“Don’t worry. I won’t say anything now. By the way, I love your bag.” Ellen said.

“Don’t love it please. Don’t take this one…the last one you took I haven’t seen that same designer again.” Cindy pleaded.

“Well, I don’t care. I’m taking this one.” Ellen said.

“Gosh! Yo can never change. Anyways…what do you brought for me?” Cindy asked.

“Everything! When you’re done eating, we’d go check it out.” Ellen said.

“The hotel is really growing…lots of cars were parked downstairs. You’re really trying.” Cindy said wiping her mouth. She’s done eating.

“It’s God my friend. Thank you.” Ellen said.

They continued chatting happily and laughing heartily till it was time to leave.

They both walked to her car and found out a car has parked behind her car making it impossible to drive out.

“Officer Dan.” Ellen called.

“Go in and tell Jane to tell the person that came in after Cindy to come take his/her car from here.” Ellen added.

Cindy leaned beside her car checking her gold wristwatch.

George was still pounding hærd continuously nonstop into Alice. They were sweating even under the Air Conditioner.

Alice was in pains and was damn tired. Her thought was that she could pass out anytime soon.

A knock was heard on the door making George gro-ned. He sluggishly rolled off her and walked to the door sweating.

“What is it?” He asked looking at the waitress.

“Sorry to disturb you sir, i wanna have a talk with the woman that’s here.”

“Why? What do you wanna tell her?” George asked.

“She should come downstairs to take her car away from another person’s car that wanna drive out.”

He looked behind him at the tired Alice who laid dejectedly on the bed.

“Hey! You’re needed downstairs take your car key along.” He said and walked into the bathroom.

Alice wore her clothes without her b-ra ’cause she’s coming back anyways.

She walked behind the waitress after taking her car key.

They got outside and she walked to the two ladies standing in front of her car.

“Sorry, I…” She couldn’t complete her statement as she wished at that moment that the ground should just open for her to enter.

“Mrs Bassey…?” Cindy asked unsure as she scanned Alice from head to toe and from toe back to head..

“you knew her?” Ellen asked beside her.

“Yes, I do.” Cindy replied not taking her gaze away from Alice.

“I..pls…don’t……. I…” Alice stammered forcing herself not to burst into tears.

She quickly walked to her car and drive a little bit far from Cindy’s car.

Cindy gave her one minute look again before driving away after hugging Ellen.

“Unbelievable! That’s Doctor Samuel’s wife for goodness sake. In a hotel wearing no br*. what the hell is happening?” Cindy thought out loud driving faster to the hospital.

She got to her office still amazed and shocked at the same time over what she saw earlier in the hotel.

“It’s unbelievable! How? What’s wrong?..” She thought pacing around her office.

Her phone rang. It’s Emmanuel calling.

📲great! I’d send you an address of a place to meet me there.

The call ended and smiled lovingly but her thought went back to Alice again.

Emmanuel smiled happily. Her PA was beside her.

“Jenny… How about this?” Emmanuel asked pointing at a ring.

They were actually in the jewelry store. He had ordered for a diamond ring from abroad. It arrived just now and he was called to come and choose between the three rings.

“I’d go with this sir.” Jenny said pointing at a shining diamond ring.

“It’s beautiful.” Emmanuel exclaimed.

“Yeah. Pack this.” He said to the store keeper that was trailing behind them.

“Yes sir.” She bowed and did what she was asked to.

Emmanuel smiled.

“Now, I’m becoming a man. Tonight is a night of change!” Emmanuel said silently.

“Congrats in advance sir. I pray she say yes.” Jenny said beside him.

“why did you said that?” He arched his brow.

“Sorry…it’s a slip of tongue.” She bowed.

‘How could she be so stupid and desperate for someone that can never be his?’ Jenny thought.

She’s been crushing on her boss for long but he wasn’t giving in to her different signs.

“Don’t get on my nerves today. And shut your mouth. Do not say a word for the rest of today.* he said walking away from her.
