Magret’s decision

MAGRET’S DECISION.

A SHORT STORY.

It’s another day in the life of a fair young lady named Magret. She woke up feeling tired and weak.

Last night was very interesting as she had a nice time with John, her partner.

John was a very nice and charming person to be with, she met him as a business partner in a conference at Ghana where she went to represent her company.
John was also from Nigeria and he also came as his company’s representative, they met and discovered they had the same thing in common.

They were having a good time all along until John called her yesterday to invite her to a dinner.

“Hi Magret, would you like to come with me to a dinner party?” John asked.

“Hmm… That’s if I’m not tired by the time i close from work”, Magret responded.

“You won’t, i will come and pick you up by 6pm”, John said smiling.

“Oohhh…alright then, i will be expecting you but you’ll take me home first, i will have to freshen up, i can’t go with you like this”, Magret said.

“That’s not a problem, i will”, John replied happily and drop the call.

Magret smiled and imagined how far they’ve come since they met.
She did not know John’s mind about taking the relationship to another level.

“Did he want to propose?”, she thought.

“You’re looking beautiful and gorgeous”, John said immediately he saw Magret in her dinner dress.

“Thank you for the compliment”, Magret replied.

They entered the car and John drove off.
During the 30 minutes drive to the venue they were gisting and Magret was laughing so hard that she forgot the stress she passed through at work.

“We are here”, John said as he parked the car.

Magret looked at the building, it was an hotel but the environment was very nice.

“This is a nice place” , she said.

They entered and went straight to the venue.

John saw his friend and they were greeting themselves and he introduced Magret to them as his girlfriend.

“When will you take her to the altar, time is going”, one of his friend teased him and they all laughed as they went outside.

Magret was just sitting down calmly and smiling while everything was going on when she noticed someone sitting beside her.

“Hi angel”, the person said.

“Hi, please someone is on that seat and i would like you to get up before he meets you here”, she replied him.

“As far as i am concern, this seat is empty and it is not good for a beautiful angel like you to be sitting down alone, you need a companion”

“Please young man, i am not alone, i came with my boyfriend and you’ll do yourself a favour by leaving now or else….”

“Calm down, i am just admiring your God given beauty, can i at least have your number?”, the guy brought out his phone and unlock it in a bid to collect Magret’s number, then John arrived with his friend.

“Who is this person here? “, he asked Magret.

“I don’t know him, he was just….” Magret was still speaking when he cut her shut.

“He was what?, so this is the rubbish you plan to do here all along, eehhnn…i just left not quite long and you’re here meeting another man already to the extent of giving him your number, is this who you are?”

“John, you’re getting the whole thing wrong and i don’t know what you are insinuating….”

“Don’t give me that crap, just stop it…”John said in anger.

“Just calm down John”, one of his friends said while tapping him on the shoulder.

“Don’t tell me to calm down, look at the person I’m planning to propose to having a nice conversation with another man”, John said.

Magret stood up immediately John uttered that statement and was really angry.

“Will you stop accusing me wrongly and allow me to explain….”, she said.

“Explain what?, how you plan to meet him after?, or how you want to give him your number and then meet afterwards?…”, John said.

“Never ever accuse me wrongly like that, i did not do all what you’re saying…”, she said.

“Who are you talking to like that….”, John was furious and he slapped Magret.

“Haaaa….”, his friends and those that are there exclaimed.

“Don’t you ever slap a lady next time”, an elderly man rebuked John.

Magret was ashamed as she picked up her purse and left the venue in annoyance.

John ran outside to catch up with her and he was begging her that it was a mistake.

She did not reply him as she ordered a ride home.

She wept when she got home and thought about the whole scenario.

This morning she woke up and she saw several missed calls from John and text messages begging her that it was a mistake.
