Chapter 4

(Rock out with that Island girl……)

“You….want to go to the Aguichi Island?”

Cynthia’s eyebrows rose slightly, staring in slight disbelief at Chan, who had just informed her of his plans for his unplanned “break.”

“Technically, it’s Aster’s hometown.” Chan replied, folding his arms.

Cynthia turned her attention to Aster, who was standing beside Chan.

“And you’re okay with that? Are you guys on speaking terms now?”

Aster shrugged, and smiled cheekily. “I was neber really angry with Chan to begin with.” Cynthia narrowed her eyes at him, then sighed in defeat.

“You’re too understanding for your own good Aster.”

“Ah hem. Can you stop talking about me like I’m not here?”

Cynthia turned back to him. “Well. I can’t say you can’t go. And I can’t say you can either. The decision has been up to you from the start. If you feel like this would be good for you, then by all means, go for it.”

“I wasn’t asking for your permission. I was just informing you.”

Cynthia rolled her eyes. “Yeah. Okay. I never said you were. Can I speak to Aster privately?”

Chan’s l-ips pressed together at her bluntness and the cold tone of her voice, but he turned around and walked out of the room quietly.

Once he was outside, Cynthia sighed heavily, her shoulders shaking lightly. Aster smiled at her. “Are you okay?”

She smiled back sadly. “It’s hΓ¦rd to stay angry at him. But I just…..”

“It’s okay. You don’t have to explain.”

She grabbed his hand.

“Aster…take care of him.”

Aster bit his lip. “You’re putting so much faith in me.”

“Because I trust you. And I trust God. I don’t believe that Chan losing his voice was a coincidence, Aster. I believe….that God is trying to change Chan, someway, somehow. And you’re probably going to play a big part in that. You’ve been such a good friend to him. Tolerating him and all his flaws. That’s why….that’s why I can trust you.”

“He doesn’t trust me though.”

“Chan doesn’t trust anyone. Thats one of his biggest flaws.”

“Is it really? It could be a strength too.”

Cynthia’s eyes softened. “Maybe. But that depends on the person, and the people around him.”

Aster sighed, grabbing his bag.

“I’ll do my best Cynthia.”

🎢🎢🎢🎢

Chan sat in the plane, deep in thought. Preparations had been made hastily, and he was now on his way to Aster’s hometown on the Aguichi Island. In his mind, he was feeling conflicted, not able to shake the strong feeling that where he was going would help him a lot.

He sighed, and stretched his legs. Well, whatever was going on, he hoped he would regain his voice as soon as possible. The lack of the sβ‚±0tlight on him was beginning to take it’s toll on his pride. He was still receiving get well messages from fans, as well as the occasional I miss you messages, but they were steadily declining as more time passed.

Those facts only proved one thing… people were starting to forget him.

But that couldn’t be possible. He was Chan. No one could dare forget him. He was special. He was Chan!

He rubbed his eyes gently, feeling his warring thoughts starting to give him a migraine. He stuck his hand into his pocket and got out his guitar pick. The same pick for the guitar whose string had broken which he had abandoned.

He flicked the pick back and forth between his fingers, and continued to stare outside, at the golden glow the sun cast on the clouds.

It was a three hour flight to the Island, and upon stepping off the plane, he took a deep breath, feeling the salty air of the sea filling his lungs. It was so refreshing, and he couldn’t help the smile that formed on his face.

“Gives you goosebumps doesn’t it?” Aster asked, walking up to him.

Chan shot him a glance.

“It feels….good.”

Aster Chuckled.

“No place like home? Right? C’mon. Let’s go.”

They both took a cab and drove into the heart of the town, and Chan took in his surroundings with wide eyed curiousity, feeling the child in him awakened by the sheer beauty and homeliness of this place.

It was so different from what he was used to, and he felt the urge to open his mouth and sing, bit decided against it.

They finally arrived at Aster’s home, a quaint little bungalow with a beautiful garden in the yard, and surrounded by carefully tended greenery.

“So, here we are.”

Chan got out, and they both walked in.

They opened the door to meet a middle aged woman, tall and slim, but her distinct resemblance to the red haired boy gave away her identity.

She dropped the napkin she was holding, her eyes going wide and filling with tears.

“Aster!” She called out, before jumping on to the male and enveloping him in a smothering hug.

“My God! How…?! When?! You didn’t tell me…!”

Aster buried his head in the woman’s shoulders.

“I’m sorry Mom. I wanted it to be a surprise.”

“A surprise indeed! I almost had a heart attack!”

Chan watched the wh0le scene unfold before him, feeling a dull ache stirring in his heart. He averted his eyes away from the them, distracting himself with the interior design of the home.

“Uh….is this…?”

“Oh yeah. This is Chan mom. He…well, it’s a long story.”

“No problem. You can explain over dinner. Come. I just out a chicken in the oven.”

Aster’s mom quickly got them settled in, and they sat down to a hearty and warm dinner, one that was obviously cooked with love, and Aster explained the wh0le situation to his mom.

“Ah, you poor thing. Don’t worry. But did you really bring him to the right place? Unless this place suddenly changed, I don’t think it has a lot of healing qualities.” She said softly.

“It’ll do.” Chan replied nonchalantly, stuffing his face with some more chicken.

They finished their dinner, and Chan settled into the spare room. He was exhausted from his flight, and wanted nothing more than to crash into bed and fall asleep.

“It seems like you’ve taken quite a liking to my mom Chan.” Aster asked, standing outside the room, and leaning against the door frame.

Chan pulled on his pyjamas.

“She’s tolerable.”

Aster Chuckled.

“Of course. Sleep tight Chan.”

Chan didn’t answer, but instead rolled over into the bed and tried to fall asleep.

🎢🎢🎢🎢

Chan was awoken in the middle of the night by a scratching and creeping noise outside his bedroom door.

He blinked, trying to adjust his vision, and wondered if Aster’s family had a pet.

What could be making that scratching sound?

He saw some movement under the door.

The person was moving so quietly, could it be Aster or his mom?

He tried to ignore it, but he was feeling unnerved, and decided to go out and investigate.

He stood up cautiously from the bed, and began to creep towards the door….

🎢🎢🎢🎢
