– *Diary entry –13*

Dear Diary,

I crawled out of bed later that evening and went into the bathroom to take a shower, after a while I stepped out of the shower and got dressed.
I chose something simple and comfortable for the night but still fashionable.
I was clad in tight blue jeans, a pink t-shirt that said ‘This is what awesome looks like,’ on the front.
On my feet was a pair of white sneakers.
I styled and put on a little make up.
Satisfied with how I looked I threw on a long white fur coat, grabbed my purse and headed to the living room.

‘What time did you get here?’ I asked Angie who was busy laughing with Koko.
‘A while ago,’ she said
‘I hope you are not polluting Koko with your nonsense.’
‘Someone is jealous,’ she said
‘Oh please why would I be Jealous, I know Koko only has eyes for me.’
She rolled her eyes, ‘I am Koko’s new favorite doll.’
‘In your dreams,’ I laughed.
Koko laughed,’ you look good my darling,’ she said
‘Thank you my woman,’ I smiled.
‘We should get going,’ Angie stood up
‘Yes.’
‘Thanks for the scones Koko I am coming for a sleep over soon,’ Angie said
‘You are not welcome here,’ I said.
‘This is not your house Zendaya.’
‘You are welcome anytime,’ Koko said
‘Yes,’ Angie stuck out her tongue at me. I laughed and pulled her hand.
‘I will see you later Koko.’
‘Take care and be careful,’ she said as we walked out.
‘You look good by the way,’ Angie said as she started the car.
‘You don’t look bad yourself,’ I laughed
She was clad in a short tight dress and ankle boots.
‘Dah.’
‘You always look good Angie you give meaning to the word beautiful,’ I said
‘You are beautiful too.’
I laughed, ‘You don’t have to sugar coat stuff, I know what I am and beautiful is not one of them.’
‘You are beautiful like you, you are unique and that’s what matters.’
‘Did you think I was beautiful before we became friends?’ I asked
She kept quiet for a while obviously trying to carefully select her next words.
‘I judged you from afar and now I know better, it’s not about the outside it’s about what’s in,side.’
‘I see.’
‘No jokes, you are beautiful friend of mine and that mysterious man is lucky to have you, I just hope he doesn’t hurt you.’
I giggled, ‘Stop hallucinating already.’
‘Someone is in love,’ she said
‘Shut up already.’

We arrived several minutes before the concert started there was a long queue at the entrance, as soon as Angie produced our tickets we were ushered through a special VIP entrance.
The security took us right up to the front and pointed us to our seats.
The place was really impressive, they were a variety of people, old and young you name it.
‘How often do you come for these things?’ I whispered in Angie’s ears
‘Each time there is a concert around I do attend.’
‘Wow! This is my first concert,’ I said
‘You will love it.’
‘I love music, I bet I will.’
We were still talking about random stuff when the lights suddenly went out and everyone began to scre-m.
The band members walked onto the stage one after the other, the crowd grew even louder, they were scre-ming and cheering their names it was just wild.
One of them got them scre-med, ‘Are you ready?’
‘Yes,’ the crowd shouted in response.
‘Then let’s do this.’ he scre-med
The music began to play and the crowd just went nuts me inclusive, I lost myself to the music and danced my ass away, I was all over the place jumping up and down like a mad person but I didn’t care because I was having the moment of my life.
When the song finally ended we all scre-med with joy.

By the time they were singing their third song and I felt very hot, I wondered how everyone else was still hyper, I couldn’t keep up I just wanted a little bit of fresh air so I excused myself and pushed my way through the crowd till I got outside.
It was freezing outside the wind was blowing in my face.
I stood only a few meters from the entrance, I took out my phone and started scrolling through facebook.

‘Zendaya! I thought I saw someone like you,’ he said
I knew whose voice it was even before I looked up at him.
‘Elijah! Sir!’ I instantly said
He laughed, ‘Elijah is okay with me.’
‘What are you doing here?’ I asked
‘I should be asking you that, I never thought you liked such kinds of things.’
‘Oh, you thought wrong,’ I said
‘You are here alone?’
‘Does it matter?’
‘Yes.’
‘I am with Angie, I think I should be getting back in,side,’ I turned but he held my hand.
‘You can’t keep running away from me.’
‘I am not running away from you, I am keeping my distance.’
‘Why?’
‘You are my lecturer.’
‘Five minutes, let me talk to you for five minutes,’ he pleaded.
‘Okay.’
He held my hand and we walked away from the door to somewhere a little private,
I texted Angie and told her I was getting some fresh air.
We stood quietly for a few minutes till I cleared my throat because I was getting uncomfortable.
‘Remember the first time we met at the mall?’ he asked
‘Yes.’
‘I was drawn to you at first sight.’
When he said that, I started to have butterflies in my tummy and my mind was racing.
‘There is just something about you that I can’t explain Zendaya.’
‘What exactly do you want from me?’ I asked
‘Well, I want to get to know you, can we even be friends at least?’
‘I don’t know,’ I said
‘Give me a chance to get to know you.’
‘Please,’ he squeezed my hand.
Before I could even respond, my phone rang.
SUNDAY- JANUARY 15th*
– *Diary entry –14*

Dear Diary,

I flutter my eyes open to the sound of my alarm clock, it’s 8 in the morning I feel so tired, my wh0le body aches, my head is pounding from dancing all night.
Speaking of last night, the night was fun and interesting.
I wouldn’t mind experiencing it all over again.
After picking up Koko’s call, Elijah and I talked; I decided to give him a chance, before you jump into conclusions, it’s just friendsh¡p and nothing more.

So after Elijah and I talked, we went back in,side and danced the night away, I even lost track of time. Angie drove me home around 2 in the morning, I was even scared Koko would scold me for coming back late but when she opened the door she simply told me to get some rest.

Forcing myself out of my bed, I yawn lazily and stretch my body.
Suddenly I feel the desperate urge to pee, I rush off to the bathroom and relieve myself afterwards I brush my teeth and splash some water on my face.
When I walk back to my room there is a knock on my door.

‘Come in.’

Koko walks in with a tray of food in her hands.
‘Morning baby,’ she places the tray on the bed
‘Morning granny,’ I smile
‘It’s always morning Koko but when you see food it changes to morning granny.’
‘You are so petty,’ I laugh
‘I figured you would be tired so I made you this,’ she says
‘Breakfast in bed, I really have the best granny in the wh0le world wide.’
‘Lord, see how I am being chaffed because of food.’
I hit her playfully, ‘Koko you are just something else.’
‘How was the concert?’
‘It was amazing Koko, I had so much fun, you should have seen me dancing.’
‘I am glad you had fun my baby, I am happy when you are happy.’
‘Can I miss church today I am so tired.’
She gives me a blank stare, ‘Hell is real.’
‘Ha, Koko.’
She laughs, ‘You can take today off, let me get going now.’
‘Alright. please pray for me.
She shrugs her shoulders and shakes her head.

She walks to the door, she opens the door but before she walks out I call her.
‘Yes,’ she frowns
‘I love you.’
She smiles, ‘it’s the food right, I love you too.’
I laugh as she slams the door behind her back I swear Koko is the funniest woman I know.

I slowly eat my breakfast as I respond to messages from Angie.
‘I swear I won’t be able to walk today,’ she says
‘Lazy bum.’
‘Why are you even up this early?’
‘I am eating Koko brought me breakfast in bed.
‘Spoilt bum.’
‘Better than being lazy.’
‘Dah.’
‘Fool.’
‘So, is he the mysterious guy?’
‘Who?’
‘Don’t play dumb with me young lady.’
I chuckle as I type my response, ‘He is just a friend.’
‘Just a friend.’
‘Well I met him way back before he became our lecturer.’
‘I knew it! I knew there was more to that look.’
‘What look?’
‘The one he gives you in class when he thinks nobody is noticing.’
‘You are crazy.’
‘I think he likes you.’
‘Dah! he just wants to be friends.’
‘Keep lying to yourself.’
‘A man like that wouldn’t waste his time with a woman like me.’
‘You are beautiful any sane man would love to be with you.’
‘Leave me alone don’t forget he is our lecturer.’
‘So?’
‘I must keep my boundaries.’
‘Oh please.’
‘Yes please.’
‘Wait dad is calling, talk to you later.’
‘Alright.’

I finish my food, spread my bed and walk out of my room. Sherister and her mother are watching TV in the living room.
‘Look what the cat dragged in,’ Sherister exclaims.
My auntie looks at me and laughs.
I ignore them and proceed to the kitchen where I place the tray on the sink.
I walk out seconds later and head back to my room but my auntie calls my name.
‘Yes,’ I respond
‘Are you going to pretend as if you didn’t see me and Sherister?’
I clear my throat, ‘Why?’
‘No good morning, how are you auntie?’
I almost laugh, like how many times do I greet her and she never responds.
‘Ma, this girl is becoming pompous I told you, granny is spoiling her too much.’
‘I can see that too, she is slowly turning out like her wh-re of a mother.’
‘What do you think, an apple does not fall far from the tree,’ Sherister responds.
‘Before we know it she will be sleeping out.’
‘Do you know she came home past 2 last night?’
‘I over slept I didn’t hear a thing.’
‘I was up studying, Koko opened for her.’
‘I wonder why mum never learns, this girl is using her just like Viola did and once she benefits from her she will vanish.’

I look at my auntie then at Sherister.
‘Are you done?’ I ask
‘You even have the guts to answer me, wait this attitude doesn’t suit you it makes you look uglier.’
‘I know right,’ her daughter exclaims.

‘You know what, I have had it with you,’ I yell as I feel my anger building up in,side of me.

‘Then……,’ Sherister opens her mouth to talk but I shut her up.
‘Let me talk, I gave you a chance to talk, this is my chance.’
She keeps quiet.

‘So what if I am ugly, so what if I was abandoned, so what if viola was a wh-re, are you any better auntie? Just take a good look at yourself, at your age you are busy squatting in your mother’s house, your mates are living in their husband’s houses, your mates are teaching their daughters morals and principles, your mates are being loyal to their husbands, you are here calling my mother names yet you are no different yourself, maybe my mother is even better because she wasn’t married.’

‘Shut up, how dare you,’ she yells.
I shake my head, ‘the truth hurts right?’
‘You can’t talk to my mother like that,’ Sherister says
I turn to Sherister ‘Instead of finding faults in me please go and find your baby daddy.’
‘And you auntie, until your sort out the affairs of your house, you have no right to bark.’
‘Bark! Are you sure you are talking to me like that?’ she stands up
I click my tongue and turn to go to my room.
‘Get back here,’ she yells but I keep walking.
I open my bedroom door but before I can walk in, she grabs my hair and slaps me so hærd across my face.
I gasp in surprise.
‘Don’t you ever talk to me like that,’ she yells and with that said she turns and walks out on me.
