Green Eyed Devils
Chapter 35
Months later

I sat at the back of Veronique’s car, she was in a club unsuspecting of who sat at the back of her car. Veronique was Mizzy Xanders first daughter and child, the minor target. She staggered out of the club with her friends, laughing and whooping. She waved them bye and dragged her feet to the car, singing like a nitwit. She cursed under her breath as she fumbled with her keys, too drunk to get a better hold of it.
‘Pathetic,’ I murmured and opened the front door for her. She squealed and got in like it was normal for a door to just open on it own. Immediately she shut the door, I crossed my hand around her neck and shushed her from scre-ming. ‘Just drive.’
‘W….w…w….’
‘Shhhhh, drive.’ She gulped and started the car, she drove to a bridge as instructed, her eyes closing. I stretched over to the wheel and turned the car to run over the bridge, the car dashed over the bridge, falling into the water at incredible speed. I opened the door and dived out of the car.
Another one down.
# XERIS
I stood at the door staring at Lyra as she beat the living life out of the trainee ninjas. It had been four months since the incident, she was in a coma for three weeks and it took hell lot to get most of the scars out of her skin. When she woke up, she was quiet, redrawn and just staring into space. Lyle woke up too but no one could reach out to her, not even me. After spending two weeks in the hospital, she was discharged but she stayed with me. Sure she got her Crystalline thingy going but she was no longer the Lyra I knew and loved.
She was bitter and filled with anger, uncontrollable and redrawn.
All she did was sing, train, fix her musical life and train some more. The other problem was the mysterious person eliminating mom’s family one after the other, I couldn’t concentrate because of Lyra’s shitty cold attitude. it was terrible for me.
I sighed and walked into the room with my hands in my pockets, she was dabbing her face with a towel.
‘Hey Lyra,’ I called chirpily. She looked at me over her shoulder and nodded. ‘Are you done beating this kids up? We can go see a movie or….’
‘I’m busy.’ Was her usual cold reply.
‘Maybe you can take a break or….’
‘Like I said, busy.’ She walked pass me but I grabbed her bicep and wh¡pped her back.
‘All of you, leave.’ I commanded, they all ran out.
‘What is it Xeris?’
‘Everything, I don’t like how cold and mean you are to me and everyone, even your own twin….’
‘I’m b….’
‘Stop telling me that! Stop saying that! I don’t care if you’re busy or dizzy or whatever you believe is wrong with you but you need to stop this!’ I yelled. ‘I’m tired of watching you beat yourself up to depression, feasting your pain by torturing yourself and hurting everyone around you,’ I said softly. She turned he r face away. ‘Lyra, look at me,’ I whispered forcing her face to look at me. ‘What’s wrong? You can talk to me. Are you mad that I didn’t save you on time? Are you upset that your brother and Xena got hurt? Are you feeling bad that you know me?….’
‘No, just let it go Xeris,’ she said shakily.
‘I can’t, tell me what’s wrong, I can take it.’
‘No,’ she sobbed. ‘I’m fine.’
‘Lyra, talk to me.’ I whispered dragging us both to the floor. She sniffed.
‘It hurts knowing that the woman I’d spent all my life living up to her name is the reason I almost died. I saw my life flashing before my very eyes Xeris, I killed a man too, I feel so guilty and sick. Yes he would have killed me but still killing someone is bad, how is it so easy to kill someone and….and….my parents caused it, they caused everything.’ She cried.
‘You can’t blame your dad….’
‘That doesn’t mean I can’t blame my mom, she’s not the sweet great mother like I pictured her to be. The other thing is I can’t look at you again…’
‘Because you got raped? Lyra, I don’t care, what I care about is you not avoiding me all the time and hurting me. You haven’t k-ssed me, you don’t let me k-ss you, you don’t even let me hold you again. My family is dying one by one, everything’s on my head and you ignoring me is worse. I don’t know what to do, I don’t know how….’
‘Are you crying?’
‘No,’ I sobbed. ‘I’ve got something in my eyes….’
‘You’re crying,’ she giggled. ‘Come here….’ She hugged me and patted my back. ‘I’m sorry about what I’ve been doing, everything I’ve been showing. I’m sad and depress, I feel like…..’
‘Stop talking, I need you….’
‘Xeris, I’m not ready. I still feel bad about the r…..’
‘Please? I’ve been alone for four months and….’
‘Xeris!’ She snapped, I sealed my l-ips. ‘I’m sorry. We should be more worried about who’s trying to end your mom’s family.’
‘I don’t know….’ She pulled away from the hug and stood up.
‘You’re growing soft Gold X,’ she smirked. ‘I’ve been doing my own investigation but first we need to go see the others, I have some apologies to offer.’
# LYRA
I stared at Mom Mixzi as she cried, her sister’s daughter died a day earlier. She got drunk, drove off a bridge and died, it looked so normal but it wasn’t. So far, all her siblings’ children have been dying or rather are dead. Hers were the only one left because they weren’t easy to eliminate. An attack was made on her but she’s damn Mixzi, who the hell really imagined he or she could kill her.
‘I don’t know what’s going on, I’m left alone now.’ She wailed.
‘No, you still have your sisters….’
‘Do you think they won’t commit suicide! Their children just died like chickens!’
‘You just need to calm down….’ Dad Xino tried to soothe her but it was useless.
‘See what I mean,’ Xeris whispered. ‘I hate to see my mother cry and here she is….’
‘Can I say something?’ I asked glancing at Betty who I’d been working with. She smiled. ‘It’s important…’
‘What is it?’ Dad Xino sighed.
‘Have any of you maybe stopped to think that this threat might be coming from Mom Mixzi’s father’s past enemy or mies?’
‘Duh, we’ve checked but there’s no one that’s still alive that we can think of.’ Xerra said with a dismissive wave.
‘What if it’s someone that ought to be dead or maybe someone who was clever enough to leave something before his death.’ I bit my lower lip, I sounded like a detective.
‘Dino,’ Xeris gasped and looked at me with wide eyes. ‘Why didn’t I think of this….what do you have?’
‘Tan and I did a thorough check on what he might have done during the period he was still the angel in the family and after careful research, we found out that he might have had a son or rather sons. Our investigations might not be true but it’s a theory, we aren’t sure.’ Betty replied nonchalantly.
‘Why didn’t anyone tell me?’ Xeris huffed.
‘You were too worried about everything that Lyra begged us not to tell you, we weren’t sure if it was true and still not sure.’
‘Okay, Dino had a son or sons and they might be responsible? Why aren’t they going after Clover?’ Dad Xino asked puzzled.
‘They don’t know about her,’ I replied. ‘They probably just grew up with the instruction to eliminate all the Quillers and their offsprings.’
‘So what?’
‘If I’m right, they will come after Lyra.’ My head snapped to Betty.
‘Me? Why!’
‘Well, they know about Xeris and also know you’re his witness so…..’
‘I’m bait,’ I scoffed. ‘If it’s bait they want, then it’s bait they’ll get.’
‘Lyra….’
‘No Xeris, I’ll be fine. We just need to stop this creeps before they do more damages….’
‘But…’
‘Just trust me.’ I assured him, I wasn’t sure about what I was doing but I was hell serious about proving that I was no weakling and no one could just pop out of nowhere and try to kill me.
