I was lying on my bed one evening after having a s€× chat with Alhaji who is on a three months business trip to Dubai. I couldn’t wait for him to come back,he promised to get me some designer clothes and shoes. I was happy and at the same time sad that he won’t be attending my graduation party next week.
I already told my parents and they promised to be in attendance,I had Mike take me to the supermarket to do some shopping. I wanted to have an in-house party later,I invited all my course mates, friends and socialites I knew. This party is gonna be lit! The talk of the Town sef,I did a lot of shopping.
Got some gifts for my close friends. I later gave Anita and Sandra a call to personally invite them,what I heard about Sandra shocked me to the bones.
She committed sucide when she couldn’t bear the thought of being an Hiv patient and she couldn’t even finish school. Wow! Such is life,I couldn’t believe my ears. Only God knows how I was able to get through that day and the following week. I had to cancel my party and pay my condolences to Sandra.
My graduation day came sooner than I expected,the wh0le place was filled to the brim. I wore a crazy Jean trouser,crop top and a pair of designer sneakers Alhaji got me on our last outing, people knew me as a slay queen in school so I had to pepper them small and give them a nice view. Everything went smoothly well until it was time to call out the graduates to receive their certificates, everyone else was called but my name,that of Sandra and some people weren’t mentioned. I started wondering what could have gone wrong,the VC mounted the podium afterwards and said he had an announcement.
Some of you here might be wondering why your names weren’t called,it has come to my notice few months back that some of you engage in nefarious activities, paying lecturers with your body and money to give you marks and to avoid carry overs.
Well those lecturers involved has been dismissed and given appropriate punishment,as for the students involve, they don’t get to graduate.
There was an uproar in the hall,I bowed my head in shame. Immediately after the VC speech I ran out of the hall to avoid questions from my parents and siblings.

I ran into my car as hot tears blinded me for a second,I let them flow down my face without bothering to wipe it off. Is this how my education is gonna end? After all the years I spent in school I have nothing to show for it all because of my reckless behaviour and nonchalant attitude to my books. How am I going to face my parents now? What explanation will I give them? I couldn’t think straight anymore.
I entered the car and drove home,I increased my speed and almost ran into a vehicle.
I got to my house,came down from the car and went into the house to pack my things. My parents will surely come and look for me,am f—–g not ready to face them. It’s better I stay away,I called Alhaji and informed him that I will be spending some time in his place till he gets back from his trip. He agreed and asked if the ceremony was over? I answered in the affirmative before hanging up. Didn’t really need to pack all my things because my clothes were in Alhaji’s mansion,his place was now like my second home. I was all ready to go,I told Mike I was travelling,got in,side my car and drove off. I checked my phone and saw more than 25 missed calls from my mum,I just flinged the phone down and bit my l-ips in frustration.
After about 30 minutes drive the mansion came into view as I sighed deeply. Even Anita who lured me into this graduated! I hit the steering wheel and scre-med d–n it!!!!
The only comfort I have now is Alhaji,I just hope he won’t leave me for someone else.
I dragged my bag in,side the house after unlocking the door. Yeah, Alhaji gave me a spare key to his house.
The place was still clean,I dropped my bag in the room,took a shower and laid down on the bed.
If only I could turn back the hands of time I thought,I won’t make this mistake again. Thank God I didn’t end up like Sandra.
Not all that glitters is gold. What ever your parents can afford make do with it please.
