MY MOTHER’S CURSE

Episode 1

Bianca a very beautiful young girl who was living ~with her family,her father,mother and younger brother whose name was Ben, the family was characterized with abject poverty,that type of poverty that affect everyone in the family, it will be difficult for anyone who has never be~ en poor before to understand their level of poverty, the poverty that ~made bianca faint in class one certain day when she was still in secondary school,she fainted due to she hasn’t eating for two days,.. bianca’s father Mr Joe was never a lazy man but things just didn’t work out for him, he has associated~ himself with so many mini job just to make ends meet but the money he gets from there still wasn’t enough for him to take care of his family, he has tried so many times to look for a security job because he feels it pays but all his efforts went abortives,..after searching and searching for a good job that will atleast fetch him money to put his son Ben in school but couldn’t get it, he has no choice than to seat at home all day mending people’s shoes, though the money he gets from the shoe mending still wasn’t enough to put his son in sc hool, but he just have to manage it.

One certain day, Ben sat outside the compound looking at his mates that were returning back from school, as he watched them passed him gisting and laughing, tears clouded his eyes, he wished he was never born into that family, ”God why is our life this way? wat kind of family did I come into? even to feed is a problem to us! just look at how my mates are goi ng to school while am at home due to no money for me to go to school! God pls come and intervene in our family the suffering is too much”, Ben cried, just then a boy putting on school uniform walked up to him ”i have been noticing u sitting outside here everyday once it 3pm looking at students returning back from school? I guessed u missed school? are ur parents that poor that they can’t put u in school? chai! I feel for u! look at even the house u guys are staying? a pig can’t even stay here! hahahahaha”, the boy mocked and walked away laughing hærd, Ben stood up and ran in,side out of shame, he got in,side, fell on the ground and started crying, as he was crying, the door opened reviewing his mother Mrs nana who just came back from hawking pure water ”my son wat is it? why are u crying? Mrs nana asked in a concerned tone and dropped down the bowl she used in hawking pure water ”talk to me son, wat is it? Mrs Nana asked again ”mama are we born to suffer or wat? Ben asked and stood up from the ground but still crying ”my son why saying this? nobody is born to suffer! pls talk to me did anything happened? Mrs nana asked looking worried ”i was mocked by a student passing by just a moment ago simply because I always sit outside everyday watching them returning back from school! mama! when am I going to school? Ben cried ”my son! soon by God grace! I and ur father are working so hærd just to put u in school! I understand how u feel! when ur elder sister bianca was still schooling, things wasn’t like this to us! my son pls don’t worry we will do everything possible for u to resume school next term that’s a promise! pls stop crying”, Mrs nana consoled and hugged him with tears dropping down her eyes.

Five days later, bianca’s father Mr Joe was returning back from a friend’s place where he went to borrow money, but his friend refused to give him saying he also have a family problem that Mr Joe should sought himself out, Mr Joe left the house disappointed, as he was walking on the busy road lost in thought, without looking where he was going, from nowhere a car coming with a full speed ran into him and immediately drove off,.. Mr Joe was later rushed to the hospital by the passerby.

Later that same day evening, Mrs nana, and her two children, bianca and Ben were sitted on the ground with a worried expression on their faces ”am really worried! wat could be keeping ur father this long? Mrs nana complained ”and it getting late already! oh God pls bring my father home safe”, bianca cried, just then Mrs nana phone started ringing, she looked at the caller, it was her husband’s number so she picked almost immediately ”hello! my husband pls where are u? pls come back home it getting late already and we are worried”, Mrs nana said on phone ”i am sorry ma this is not ur husband, I am doctor Abel! ur husband was knocked down by a car and was admitted here at my hospital, I checked his phone and u were the last person he called! am sorry ma there is a bad news”, the doctor said ”wat bad news doctor? Mrs nana panicked on phone ”we tried all we could to save him but our efforts went abortive, we lost him! pls take heart! sorry for the sad news! come to angel’s hospital and carry his body! so sorry for the loss”, the doctor said and ends the call, Mrs nana on hearing the sad news, fell down and collapse.

Episode 2

As all this was going on, Mr Joe remain was later taking to the village and was later buried in a small way due to no money, his wife and children mourned for him for some weeks before returning back to their house at the city, Mr Joe’s death was a very big loss to the family, as things became more difficult to them, even to feed once in a day in the house was a problem to them, bianca has tried submitting cv and application letters to many companies waiting patiently for their calls but it seems luck wasn’t on her side, she waited and waited for their call but all to no avail, she has no choice than to seat at home all day doing nothing, a day can never pass without her crying and wishing for death to come and take her, the poverty in that house was two much that they even beg on the street just to survive.

”my children! I am tired of begging on the street just to survive with u two! the suffering is too much! eversince ur father died things has become very terrible for us! I have finally come to a conclusion! we will have to pack to the village and base there, atleast with that we can be helping people on their farms and gets paid from it, that is the only option we have now! we can’t continue staying here in the city doing nothing and begging to survive! so pls my children I want u both to understand me”, Mrs nana said with tears dropping down her eyes ”ok mama! that is a good ideal! but though I never wished to base in the village but I have no choice due to how life has been an unfair to us”, Ben said almost in tears ”bianca u are not saying anything”, Mrs nana said looking at bianca who was seen crying ”bianca my daughter pls say something”, Mrs nana said ”mama I really don’t like the ideal u made! I mean! how can I, bianca base in the village? so people will start calling me village girl? Godforbid! mama am sorry I can’t base in the village! I just can’t! let’s just manage it anyhow we see it here in the city! I know one day God will see us through”, bianca said in tears ”just look at wat u are saying bianca! are u enjoying this terrible condition we are passing through? u don’t want to base in the village because u don’t want people to start calling u village girl! eversince u are in the city, wat has city done for u? Ben asked and eyed her ”ben don’t u dare talk to me in that manner I am ur elder sister so therefore u have to give me that respect! mama warn Ben o”, bianca angrily said ”elder sister with no brain”, Ben insulted while bianca stood up and was about slapping Ben when her mother held her hand ”it ok bianca and u Ben, learn to respect her she is ur elder sister ”whatever”, Ben said in a low tone ”bianca pls! u just have to understand me! this city doesn’t favour us that was why I said we should go to the village to base! pls my daughter”, Mrs nana said ”mama am not comfortable with this ideal o! basing in the village is wat I never dream of! even the house there is so old and the ceiling has already pulled off! I don’t just know wat to say again! do whatever u feels is best for u mama”, bianca said worriedly ”my daughter I know how u feels but we don’t have choice! am sorry”, Mrs nana said with tears dropping down her eyes ”but why is our life this way? u and papa promised to further my education but look at wat is happening? I regret been born into this family”, bianca cried ”my daughter pls don’t talk like that! this suffering will be over soon”, Mrs nana consoled and hugged bianca as they both started shedding tears.

Mrs nana and her children later traveled down to the village to base, but bianca wasn’t happy being in the village, but she just have to accept fate,.. one weeks on their stay in the village, they started helping people on their farms just to survive, though the money they gets from the farm work still wasn’t enough to provide three square meal but they just have to ~manage it rather than doing nothing, dying of starvation,.. Mrs nana later used the little money she has saved up on the farm work she was doing for people to start up bean cake (akara) business, as time goes on she started making enough money from the bean cake business, atleast she can brag on providing three square meal a day.~

So one day Mrs nana called her two children ”mama this one u called us I hope all is well? Ben asked ”my son! all is well o! Ben my son! I have a good news for u”, Mrs nana said smiling ”wat good news mama? Ben asked confusedly ”u will start schooling next week! atleast I have saved enough money that can put u in school through the bean cake business”, Mrs nana announced as Ben happily ran and hugged her ”aaaah mama thank u! so finally I will start schooling next week”, Ben happily said immediately he disengaged from the hug ”mama wat about me? don’t tell me I will still remain at home doing nothing” bianca said worriedly ”my daughter! u will further ur education but not now! u know putting u in the university will cost alots of money! which I don’t have for now! pls let’s ur brother go to school with the little I have saved in my bean cake business, the money they collect in secondary school u can’t use it to compare the one of university! pls my daughter understand me! u will further ur education but not now”, Mrs nana said ”this is rubbish mama! how do u expect me to stay at home while my younger brother go school? this is partial! mama! I want to further my education, I don’t want to know how and where u will get the money from, I want to further my education, I have said my own o”, bianca said and angrily walked away while Mrs nana sighed.
