💮CHAPTER 4💮
👧MAE👧

Seriously, dad what’s going on here why did you become suddenly infuriated? I asked but he kept his gaze on the nanny instead.

Lady what on earth did you say or do that got my dad pissed off, he was caring few minutes ago with a worried and sorry look on his face, dad doesn’t get angrily easily so what’s up? I asked the nanny with a scornful look

I..I..I. Seriously didn’t say nor do anything wrong… She said with a stutter

It’s obvious you just lied, you wouldn’t have stuttered if you hadn’t lied you’re not a stammerer, are you?

Look woman, let this be the very last time you’d say negative word about my daughter, I wouldn’t take that lightly next time.

You deserve to be fired for what you just did but I’ll pardon you because you deserve pity.

Marope mio gbo Yoruba, tio batun bu omomi mo promise e wa fi ibi bayi sile ni ojo yen ( don’t think I don’t understand Yoruba language, if you ever abuse my daughter again, I promise to send you out of my house that very day)

Omo buruku ( bad child) is too much you know that. Sweetheart let’s go, take care of yourself you don’t deserve any help from me.

“And none among you should assist her with anything, you’ll be fired if you do” dad said to the maids.

“And make sure you don’t touch anything in the house, I’m watching you so don’t play smart” he said lastly before we left the house.

Dad did she call me a bad child? I asked him as we drove to school.

Don’t worry about that dear, I’ve given her the punishment she deserves.

I’m sure she deserves more punishment and you know what I might do to her if I understood what she said.

But dad! I’ve never heard nor see you speak the language you spoke earlier, how come you understood and didn’t even teach me.

That’s because I don’t really understand it like before, we’re from the Yoruba tribe and that’s the language we speak in our tribe.

You didn’t grow up Here in Nigeria so it’s normal if you don’t understand it and besides, I don’t want you to understand it… He replied

Alright dad but I wish to understand it, you know I wouldn’t have known she said something bad about me if you hadn’t become furious because if that.

And you know she might repeat that if you aren’t there…

My little gem is so anxious to learn our language, don’t worry you’ll understand it when the time comes…

👩 Michelle’s POV👩
Gosh! I can’t believe that man understands Yoruba despite how fluent his British accent is.

Though it’s obvious in his accent that he’s only forcing himself to speak it, he must’ve left the country for a very long time because there’s no trace of him being a Yoruba guy in his appearance.

But come to think of it, i’ve made him angry, what if he chooses to despise me? Ah! temi tibami, enu mi tikobami ( ah! I’m doomed, my mouth has definitely pushed me to the end of the road)

I seriously need this money, maami can hærdly afford my school fee not to talk of project fee, what have I gotten myself into for goodness sake.

What if that little witch of his daughter convince him to sack me, I mean she hates my gut with passion and here I am on the bad side of her dad too, then I’ll be doomed for real and maami would be so disappointed in me.

“Gosh what do I do” I said as I meditated in my room.

Thank God I’ve got some cash on me, I had to run to the next street to get some palm oil to apply on my skin but not without me acting like a mad woman as the itching got intensified.

I need to do everything possible to gain his forgiveness then I can be rest assured I’ll have the opportunity to remain as her Nanny but I wish to gain her love too.

I can’t keep battling with a small kid, I love her already, she’s pretty and smart just like how I wish my daughter should be. But I don’t want mine to be troublesome and tricky like she is tho.

I was still lost in thought when my phone started ringing and I smiled when I saw my mom as the caller.

I answer the call and we exchanged pleasantries and talked about some other things. She asked about my boss and her daughter and that made me become silent for a while, as I was deliberating if I should tell her about what happened or not.

Hello! Mich are you there, funmilayo!! She called and I cleared my throat as I jolted out of my thought.

“Yes maami I’m here but maami wahala wa o, moti shé oga mio( mum there’s a problem o, I’ve offended my boss o)”

“Ah! What did you do” she asked sounding so worried

I narrated everything to her including how he behaved after I offended.

You should’ve been more careful, I’ve always told you to be mindful of the words you utter, now see what you’ve gotten yourself into .

Just make sure you apologize to him and his daughter once they return and make sure you do everything to please them. You mustn’t loose that job, you know how hærd things are at home and you know all it took you before you were able to secure that job.

Kotie fi ri owo school é san. ehn, jhoor oko mi( at least for you to get the money for your tuition fee, Ehn, please my dear)

Alright motigbo maami eshe gan( I’ve heard mom, thank you very much) I said.

Okare oko mi( welldone my dear) I’ll call you some other time, she said and prayed for me before hanging up.

That’s why I love my mother, I just hope I secure a better job that’s gonna fetch me more money to give her a better life.

I went to the kitchen to microwave the food I prepared for them in the morning to eat since I’m hungry and haven’t has the chance to take anything because I’ve been busy.

Excuse me ma’am I don’t think you heard the boss well, he asked you not to touch anything in this house and here you are about to eat the food he bought with his money.

You seriously don’t know how dangerous the boss could be when he’s angry. One of the workers said to me as I was about to eat.

He wouldn’t let me stay hungry because of that little thing I did. I’ll sort myself out, trust me. I replied her

I wish you luck with that and remember he has an extremely smart daughter whom he doesn’t take for granted, with him.

She could do things that’ll make him fire you without thinking twice, you don’t know how many nannies have left this house within few months.

Wow tell me more about that, I said with eagerness.

The things I’d love you to note is that, Mae is really an amazing girl. She’s got a good heart and a really nice personality but she’s a trickster.

She treats every workers nicely and doesn’t act rude, she doesn’t behave like a rich man’s daughter.

She even takes her dad to the orphanage to go give them goods and money. One thing I noticed in her is that she doesn’t like being watched over, she really hates to be monitored and you know that’s the main duty of a nanny, so I guess that’s why she acts so rude and does things that intrigues the nannies to leave.

Their maximum duration in this house is two weeks, they don’t stay more than that.

Wow! That’s amazing, I love her too and I used to be a trickster when I was young too so I guess that’s why I’m not surprised.

But what are the things she likes to have, I really wanna gain her love, I need the money so bad… I asked her

She sighed and listed everything and I paid full attention to her.

Thanks for letting me know all these, I’ll forever be grateful to you if it works out. I said to her

She smiled and said it’s nothing. I need to get them for her but I don’t really have much on me.

I think I need to borrow some cash from the lady… I thought

I called her back and asked her for help which she truly granted, this lady is really nice. I thought

I guess you’re a Yoruba lady so I’m sure you know what the swallow that looks blackish with okra soup is.. She said

Ah! Amala niyen( that’s amala) each I know it and I know how to prepare it. Does she like eating it? I asked

You mean she? The girl that grew up in the states would know how to eat that? You’re funny. You need to see how irritated she always look when her dad’s eating it.

It’s the boss’s favorite and he loves it so much when his mum prepares it for him and sometimes orders for it online.

So I guess you should try preparing it for him. she said and I didn’t know when I hugged her.

Thank you so much for telling me, I’ll get going now I’m off yo the market. I said and went to take a bag.

Make sure you return early so you’ll execute your plan before they return. She said .

“Alright I will! Bye” I replied

TBC…

Do you think she’d win their hearts with what she’s about to do?🤔
