I folded my hands behind my back. And relaxed.. I imagined having a little girl with nessa’s blond pigtails and my silver coloured eyes. Joy filled my heart.I’m an engineer and I own a construction company that I built from nothing. I came from a very poor family; had a father who loved us and a very abusive mother.
She uses anything as an excuse to whack I and my brothers around.
My father died a lot early in our live and I guess it drove mom off the deep end. You see, she loved my father alot and married him against the wishes of her rich family. She’s half Irish with a touch of French and a dash of Armenia.
Came from a long line of aristocrats.
Somewhere in that long line of mix and ancestry came the grey coloured eyes. She was a grey eyed beauty, fierce and proud. Anyway, marrying a common black labourer was nothing she expected. She imagined love would cocoon her from the harsh realities of poverty.
Anyway, after my dad died in a fatal accident, she hit the deep end. Started drinking heavily with the few dimes he’d saved and blamed us for his death.
Life became harrowing and we all ran away from the trailer shack we called home on a cold, snowy night. We never looked back.
Doing odd jobs and avoiding the foster system; so we won’t get separated, we pooled our income together and I was nominated to get an education among the 3 of us. They claimed I was the most intelligent.
Suffice to say, I graduated Egregia Pour Laude.
They worked as lackeys to finance my education. I began the construction business and made sure my elder brothers have an early retirement.
My company is a force to reckon with and I think it’s time for marriage. I can live several lifetimes over without having to work; that’s how wealthy I am. I’ve gone through virtually a sea of women and I think I’ve finally found the person for me; Not the person my looks and money attracts.

A thought suddenly popped into my head. I’d love to surprise nessa tonight.. A candle lit dinner for two.. I dropped the pen i was holding and I stood up. I can afford to leave work anytime, I Bleeping own it.
I jogged to the underground garage; I don’t really like elevators and use it only when i have to. I entered my car and zoomed off. I glanced at the dashboard, it’s some few minutes to 4pm.. That’d give us some time to indulge some nasty Bleeping before we go for that dinner. I smiled in anticipation.
She lived at a little bungalow not far from the suburbs- another thing I love about her.
Her house came into view and i grinned.
My grin turned to horror the next moment.
a big explosion. It rocked my car and made me go deaf for moments. I felt horror fill me.
Vanessa. It came from her house! The front part went up in flames.
I didn’t know what filled my blood. I flew out form the car and raced down the remaining road. A crowd had started gathering and someone scre-med “call 911!”
I got to the house, p@nting heavily..
Thick smokes bellowed into the sky. I felt my eyes sting. Vanessa. My vanessa. In that moment; all the slide show of my dreams with her ran a loop in my head. She’s my Bleeping life. I love her.
Our plans, our future girls and boys. Blond pigtails, grey eyes. I felt adrenaline fill me.
I ran into the house. Some people tried to hold me back, but I grunted and pushed them off. I broke away and leaped into the fire.
The front door was burnt down and I entered, while choking on a lungful of smoke.
Everywhere was cloudy and black. I felt heat slam into me. I didn’t care. I tore into the rooms, calling out her name. I heard nothing.
I ran to the last room at the back and saw her huddling in a corner. The wave of relief that hit me brought tears to my eyes. She saw me and ran into my arms.. She cried in fear and I petted her..,”hush my Darling, hush.., we need to leave now..” This house will fall apart any moment soon. Haste filled me.
I wrapped the duvet around her and carried her out of the room. I stepped into the living room and shock filled me. The wh0le place was burning.. A live furnace. There was no way to navigate. The door was pure flames. The smoke was thick and choked me down. Nessa sobbed in my arms.

All I could think about was saving Vanessa.
I spied a way to circ-mvent the burning path..
A window was not on fire yet.. I ran to the window and dropped her. Then I hit it with my shoulders until the glass cracked. I used my fist on the rest and it broke apart; I felt tearing pain go through my hands, but i didn’t mind it.
“Baby, you’re hurt!” Nessa cried out. I didn’t even mind her and I pushed her out of the window. She landed safely on the grass. People gathered around to help her and scre-med at me to jump out.
I saw the fire truck coming in a distance with their siren wailing loudly and I felt relief fill me.
As i climbed onto the window ledge to pull myself out, something insanely hot fell on me; and everything went black.

Sophia Hitten
I was assigned to the Burn patient. It was a crazy day, he was rushed to the hospital; a burning beam had fallen on him from the burning house while saving his girlfriend..
He was a second too late… He looked hideous.
I didn’t recognize him at first. Never in this world. Ne’er. Until I saw his eyes. Those grey eyes. I felt pity fill me when I first set my eyes on the patient. Oh poor soul, I’d thought..
The beam fell on his face and burnt the right side down to the 3rd degree. The left part was untouched.
We were bothered about his eyes; hoping the beam hadn’t made it blind. The doctor pulled the lids back and I staggered in shock. It was my dream man.
He had other slight burns on his arms and had a rib and th-gh fracture. The beam knocked him out and blocks fell on him. All in all, it was gruesome.
He didn’t regain consciousnesses until after a month, and the first name he whispered was “Nessa”. I’d made sure to get myself assigned to him permanently. I took care of him and did his dressing on my shift.
His brothers also never left. They rotated the watching over him. I was shocked when I saw them. They were much more lightskinned and smaller; although, they had the signature grey eyes too. They looked to be in their late forties..
And yes, they are twins.
Due to his fitness and young age; he’s 30, he healed up faster than most.
Vanessa. That bitchy c–t. I heard from his brothers that she was the one he went into the fire to save.

She came in some few hours after he was brought in and couldn’t believe her eyes. She said she’s in shock over “his hideousness” and needs some time to get over it.
She never came back. When he woke up, he disturbed everyone, raging for vanessa.
We didn’t know how to break the news to him and I actually tried getting in contact with her but she told me to call her back; only when he’s gotten cosmetic surgery done.
He became a surly, temperamental bear and I scre-med the truth to him, one day out of frustration! His Nessa was not coming back!
She doesn’t give a flying Fork! After her initial visit, she didn’t come back and it’s 2 months already! That got him to calm down.

I went through all the stages of loss; I couldn’t believe Nessa could betray me that way..anger, depression, and finally acceptance. I took it all out on the Japanese nurse who tended to me.
The beautiful, beautiful, angel who accepts it all like a pro.
I began to yearn for her calm presence; and whenever she’s not on the shift, I feel agitated and couldn’t wait for her to come to work.
She became my beacon in a dark world. I have nothing. Nothing. I’d built my world all around Vanessa and the emotional security she provided.
I yearned to Sophia’s gentle touches and the way she yelled at me in encouragement during my physiotherapy sessions. She didn’t have to come with me, but she does, every time she’s on duty.
She became just more than a woman to me.
She became a friend. She didn’t look at me uncomfortably;the way other people do because of my ugly face. She k-ssed my scarred face.
I began to heal from in,side out.

After 3 months, my surgery was scheduled and I had it done. My face was sculpted back. I was discharged from the hospital and she insisted I move into her apartment.. She’d keep a closer eye on me, she argued. My house is just big and empty.. No personal care.
My brothers loved her and readily agreed.
Who am I to say No?

We got married few weeks later
