CHAPTER 21
.
Rosanne made sure to prepare one of the finest meal for his highness during supper, slipping the letter behind her dress, she grabbed the tray of food and ascended up to the crown prince’s room.

“Your highness!” Rosanne made sure to hold her tongue and control her shaky and nervous voice as she called.

“I have made supper” she announced bodly.
Getting no reply from his highness as expected, she breathed out and decided to walk in, slowly thinking about the consequences.

Rosanne stopped on her tracks, when she saw his highness seated at the edge of his bed, his eyes boring into hers.
She looked away.

He doesn’t look mad. She thought.

Contemplating whether or not to leave the food on the floor, Rosanne didn’t know when she walked up to the other end of his bed to place his food.
He clearly didn’t like it when she placed his food on the floor, he didn’t want to be seen as a dog. And also got mad once, because she didn’t leave the food at the doorstep.
So what does his highness really wants?.

Seeing him gentle and not angry as she placed the food on his bed. She gave a light bow and walked up to the door less door.
The crown prince waited patently for Rosanne to exit the room. But was surprised when she took a pause. He saw her slowly count her fingers before turning to him.

Meeting his eyes, she gulped and gave a bow.

“Your Highness… I’m certainly sorry for this, I am not trying to ruin your supper. But I just want to ask for a teeny tiny request. I know it’s not right for me to ask you of something like this. But I do not want to be left in the dark.”

The crown prince said nothing, and let his eyes do the talking, seeing he wasn’t mad or stopping her.
Rosanne slipped out the letter.

“The letter, you helped me with that day, I think my father recieved it and sent another one. But I do not know how to read.” Rosanne breathed out.

After an awkward moment of silence. The crown prince spoke…
“Bring it over!”

Rosanne couldn’t contain the happiness she felt hearing that. He was going to help her read the letter. She was extremely happy, she confronted him at the right time.
Rosanne took a step forward and as she handed the crown prince the letter with a bow, she took a step back.

“You need not to remain dumb.” The crown prince spat. His eyebrows suddenly furrowed in anger.
“Huh?” Rosanne was confused.

“You should learn to read yourself” he added, his loud voice causing Rosanne to shriek.

“I want to your highness, but I can’t, I’ll be beheaded if the king of Orrander finds out I can read” Rosanne expounded. Her eyes on her feet.

“Orrander?” The crown prince scoffed. “The place where my mother and father rules. My father is a very foolish man don’t you think?.”

“I… I don’t know.” Rosanne avoided the question.
“If he executed such rules for females to be away from knowledge, then he sure is foolish”.

“No your highness, the rule has been made In Orrander, even before the reign of your father.” Rosanne explained.
“Then the rulers of Orrander, then and now are all foolish” the crown prince spat, opening the letter.

Rosanne’s head slowly looked up to him, she couldn’t help how happy she felt. She couldn’t wait to hear what her dear father had written for her.
His highness was one sidedly a nice person. She thought.

“Dear Rosanne, it is I, Zackary your father” the crown prince read, and heard the tiny happy squeak that Rosanne made…
He looked up at her and she gave an apologetic look.
He didn’t mind, but his always angry face made her contain whatever she was feeling.

The crown prince’s voice was deep and it took over the wh0le room.

“I would have loved to write ten first pages about you Rosanne dear, but I have follow an order. Dear Hastings, this is your mother, queen Adalind” The crown prince stopped reading and clenched his fist. “I thought your father wrote this!” he growled.

“Yes, yes he did. But he wrote it at the castle in Orrander and the king and queen must have ordered him to write something like that” Rosanne breathed out, silently praying the crown prince shouldn’t get angry.

“I’ll skip those parts” The crown prince added, his eyes scanning the letters before he started reading again.

“Rosanne, how are you? How is everything at Castle Sylph? Do you sleep well? Do you eat well? Do you love it there?”
Rosanne nodded happily at the questions, not caring if it was her father talking or not.

“According to the Queen, the crown prince is a nice person and I heard he wrote your letter for you, despite how ill you spoke of him, but I just want to let him know that I am grateful for what he did and will be grateful forever.” the crown prince stopped at that part of the letter and swallowed hærd before reading.

“And everyday, Garam doesn’t misses a day he visits me. He misses you and can’t wait for your days at Castle Sylph to be over.” the crown prince paused, he looked up to see Rosanne smiling. Her smile faded immediately she noticed his eyes.

He continued. “I just want you to remain safe and stay out of trouble. The crown prince must be very nice, do well to not trouble him and do your job. I made your favourite food for supper but too bad Garam and I are going to devour it without you here. I love you Rosanne, from your dear father, Zackary.” The crown prince breathed out…

Rosanne felt happy, finally!

“Thank you, your highness.” Rosanne beamed, bowing to her fullest.

“It funny how your father speaks nice of me. He doesn’t know me, he shouldn’t just call me nice” the crown prince scoffed.

“Your Highness! Maybe you get angry, way too angry sometimes and maybe try to strangle me at those times” Rosanne rushed her words taking a step back. She was ready to take a run for anything. “But it’s okay for my father to call you nice because you are nice. You helped me with my letter twice and that is the nicest thing I would ever recieve from someone like you. Thank you, your Highness.” Rosanne bowed, exiting the room and leaving the crown prince thinking.
