CHAPTER 70
~
*NINETEEN YEARS AGO*

“Tabitha… Tabitha…” Zackary called as he ran into his cottage with confusion and worry written over his face.
Tabitha his dear wife, slowly got on her feet with the little strength she could render, her blonde hair almost as white as the sun, circled her back and waved sideways and she slowly went to the door to meet her husband.

“Zackary… Is everything alright?” Tabitha asked.
“I am afraid not” Zackary closed the door behind him.
“What?” Tabitha was confused.

“The Queen has just given birth and lost the baby” Zackary breathed out.
“What?” Tabitha almost yelled but felt a weak pain under her abdomen, and she quickly placed her hand under her bumpy stomach.
“Sit… Please. Do not frighten our child.” Zackary said helping his wife to a seat.
“The Queen’s child does not live? That is tragic” Tabitha sighed.

“It is. And that tragic story has led to sadness over Orrander. But we should not waever you will give birth soon and I do not want you to think about anything, but the beautiful life you’ll be giving birth to”. Zackary smiled.
“Yes” Tabitha’s l-ips curved into a smile.

The day became faster than ever and everyone’s gloomy went with the night after the queen’s news.
As the night grew old, Zackary sat quietly chugging on a wooden cup of white wine, watching his wife sleep, when she made a light turn, before waking up.

“I can’t sleep” Tabitha confessed.
“But you were sleeping fine. Just now.” Zackary replied.
“I was pretending.” Tabitha sighed, slowly getting on her feet, and immediately she got on her feet, she felt a sharp pain around her stomach before letting out a gro-n.

“Tabitha are you okay?” Zackary jumped on his feet and rushed to his wife.
“I am fi- ahhhhhhhh” Tabitha yelled, as she felt another contracting pain in her abdomen, and suddenly her water broke, sliding down her legs and into the wooden floor.

“Holy Mother of Orrander!” Zackary yelled.
“It is time Zackary” Tabitha breathed out.

“Please… Lie down immediately I’ll get the mid wives” Zackary said and carefully help his wife lie on the stack of hay at the corner of the room.
Tabitha lets out another grunt. “Hurry up, I can’t take it anymore” she yelled.
Zackary left the cottage immediately and head next door to get one of the mid wives.

He placed a heavy knock on the door despite the quiet night, frightening some neighbors who were fast asleep.

“Audrey!” Zackary yelled. “Audrey!”

The door finally opened after so many banging from Zackary and Audrey, a lady in her late thirties could be seen behind the door and she sighed when she saw Zackary.

“Tabitha..?” Audrey asked.
“Yes. She’s all alone, the baby will be out any time soon.” Zackary rushed his words panicking.
“Now go back home, and help her breathe well, I’ll be there soon, I’ll get Anna” Audrey rushed her words.
“Okay then.” Zackary added, before taking a turn and leaving for his cottage.

Stepping into his cottage, horror flashed across Zachary’s face when he saw his wife yelling in pain and his new born baby’s head had already stuck out in between Tabitha’s leg.

“Tabitha…” Zackary panicked rushing to his wife and kneeling beside her.
Not knowing what to do, he stared at the baby slipping out in shock.
“Help… Me…” Tabitha grunt, Beady Sweats laying on her forehead. She rolled her eyes back before closing them and pushing the little life coming out in between her legs.

The wooden door to Zachary’s cottage burst open and Audrey and Anna, one of Orrander’s finest mid wives walked in with basket in their hands.
They both hurried to Tabitha and Zackary seeing the situation.
“This is one impatient child” Anna mumbled seeing how the baby was already half way out.

“Zackary you need to fill a basin up with water and bring it here immediately.” Audrey instructed and Zackary got to it as fast as he could.
The delivery became smooth and fast as the baby was already half way out, and as the midwives cleansed the baby’s body, with Zackary standing at the corner of the room watching his wife regain herself, Audrey breathed out.
“You bare a female” Audrey smiled, staring at the heavenly child in her hand.
“A female… Amazing” Zackary smiled, staring down at his wife, who smiled at the news too.
“This is one of the fastest delivery I’ve seen all my life” Anna added.

“The baby will indeed be a blessing judging Fro-
Audrey suddenly stopped talking and also stopped wiping the blood away from the baby’s body.

“What’s wrong?” Anna asked, making Zackary turn to Audrey immediately.

“Huh? Oh… Nothing.” Audrey shook her head with a smile before cleaning the baby’s body again.
After cleansing the baby’s Body, the child was wrapped in a warm cotton cloth before it was laid next to its mother.

Tabitha was cleaned too and was given a white liquid to drink.
The baby started to cry all of a sudden almost frightening its mother and Tabitha had to seat up for her first br-astfeeding.

The midwives left Zackary and his wife in the middle of the night, with their new born child, and Tabitha wouldn’t let go of the little life in her hand.
“She’s so beautiful” Zackary smiled.
“She has your nose and l-ips, look how small they are” Tabitha smiled.
“And she has your ocean eyes.” Zackary smiled.

“Feels like I’m holding a Rose in a daffodils garden, she feels unique. She is sure a blessing” Tabitha smiled.
“She is..” Zackary took a seat in front of his wife. “Why don’t we call her Mary-Anne” He suggested.

Tabitha shook her head. “She feels more like a rose to me, How about Rose Zackary?”.
“How about Rosanne,” Zackary smiled.
Tabitha’s l-ips curved into a wide smile. “Rosanne it is”.
The cloth wrapped around Rosanne’s body started to sag, and as Tabitha adjusted it, she noticed a red marking on Rosanne’s shoulder, and immediately she pulled the cloth down to get a better view.
Her loud gasp caught Zackary off guard, and he asked what was wrong.
Seeing the red marking himself. His eyes almost popped out of his head.
“Tabitha, this is the red marking.” Zackary announced.
“I know” Tabitha’s eyes were starting to get w-t.
“We’re doomed.”
