THE GRASSI’ VILLA__DANNY’S STUDY.

“Honey, don’t.. don’t say it” Danny said.

He was looking straight in her eyes, begging her not to say but she did the exact opposite.

She took a step closer, closing the small space between them and stared right back in his eyes.

“She wasn’t your ex.. she was the woman you RAPED!” she spouted angrily.

Danny closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, his fists were tightly folded by his side as though he’s trying to hold himself back.

“Honey, I didn’t rape her… ”

“Oh spare me that” she cut in. “You and I both know what happened back then, stop denying it”

“I’m not denying anything, it really didn’t happen and I can assure you that….”

She raised her right hand up to stop him and shook her head.

“Keep your assurance to yourself”

She pushed her husband back on his chair and banged on the papers scattered on the table.

“You’ve successfully found your long lost daughter and you’re happy, in fact, I’m happy for you…at least one of us isn’t childless no more”

She smirked and tried to maintain a straight face, but Danny could see beyond her facade.. he could see the pain hidden in her eyes.

“Congratulations on finding her, but have you thought about Jayden?” she asked.

“Jayden?” he asked back, almost inaudibly but his wife heard him.

“Yes, how are you gonna tell him that his fiancee is a product of rape? And to make it worse a product from your rape case”

Danny shook his head.

“You’re getting it wrong, honey”

“It doesn’t wether I’m getting it wrong or right here, what matters is…how is Jayden going to feel about this?”

She straighten up and glanced at the papers once more, or a better explanation for it…she glared at the papers.

“It’s your mess, fix it!” With that she stormed off.

But before she stormed off, Danny had already saw her eyelids twitching as if she’s trying to hold back her tears and he knew instantly she’s gonna break down once she’s alone.

He banged his hand on the table frustratingly.

“I didn’t rape anyone!” he explained to an empty room.

He leaned back on his chair, his eyes settled on a photo of two men whom seem to be in their twenties standing proudly on the table, they were smiling and seemed very happy.

“Brother, our biggest fear is here, the day we dreaded most is fast approaching, what should I do?” he asked the photo and stared expectantly at it, but unfortunately the photo can’t speak.

He sighed and shut his eyes.

CITY GENERAL HOSPITAL__11:30PM.

“… I can’t believe Matilda can be this careless” Stephen gritted out after Isabella had narrated what transpired and how Cassandra ended up saving her.

Jayden balled his fist and his grip on Isabella tightened as his eyes held so much anger.

“She’s not careless, she’s a vicious and heartless she-devil” Jayden growled deeply.

While Jayden was busy fuming in anger, Stephen’s eyes were fixed on his wrist watch and his (Stephen’s) eyes grew wide when he realized it’s running again.

He quickly cleared his throat to get Jayden’s attention.

“I’d suggest you don’t get angry right now or you’re gonna drain your 8% right now and you won’t get to see Cassandra when she wakes up, because you’d be passed out by then” he rushed out every word in one breath.

“I can’t help me, I’ve had enough of Matilda and I wanna put an end to all this”

“I know, but let’s make sure you don’t exhaust yourself or we won’t be able to put an end to all this” Stephen said, mimicking Jayden at the last part.

Jayden glared but Stephen simply laughed, his eyes not leaving Jayden’s wrist though.

“Maybe you should set Matilda up”

“What?” Jayden asked.

“We should play with her, give her a call and ask about your kid..tell her to put your daughter on the phone because you miss her and wanna hear her voice”

Isabella quickly shook her head in disagreement.

“No, don’t disturb mom, she must be banging her boyfriend”

“What?” Jayden and Stephen exclaimed at once.

Isabella flinched slightly and stared at them with a frown, but her father and his friend are staring back at her with an even deeper frown.

“Wait…what did you just say, princess?” Jayden asked in a calmer tone this time.

“I said mummy is banging her boyfriend and she isn’t gonna be happy if we call her” she explained.

Jayden and Stephen exchanged looks, Jayden shut his eyes and started breathing heavily as he fumed.

“Er…you don’t know what banging is, right princess?” Stephen asked her.

She shook her head.

“Mummy never told me, but she always tells me to stay away from her room everytime she brings her boyfriend home…she said they’d be doing a lot of banging”

Jayden banged his hand on the small table in the ward, Isabella looked at her dad’s face and noticed her dad’s expression has changed completely, which kinda scare her since she haven’t seen him like this before.

She quickly jumped off his laps and hide behind Stephen, peeking at her father from there.

“This is outrageous!” Jayden growled. “What would other people think of my daughter, when they hear her saying words like banging?!”

“Well, you’re actually to blame for that…for not getting her custody in time” Stephen said.

“You think I wouldn’t get her custody if I wasn’t in coma?”

“Yeah… you’re right”

A beeping sound caught their attention and they both turned their gaze to Jayden’s wrist watch, it’s showing 5%.

“Ok, you’ve thrown enough tantrums for today….”

“I’m not throwing tantrums, this is about my daughter’s manners and future” he said.

Stephen simply nodded, he reached for the bottle of drugs and threw it at Jayden.

“I’m gonna take Bella out for some fun, take the drugs to stop your battery from running out and try to cool off or the drug won’t work”

“I don’t need any drug, I’m too angry to take it”

“Ha-ha, so funny” Stephen mocked him, then nodded towards Cassandra. “I guess you don’t wanna see her when she wakes up”

That being said, he turned back to Isabella and smiled sweetly at her.

“You wanna go have fun with Uncle Steve?”

“Y-yeah?” she answered surely, peeking at Jayden it’s obvious she’s waiting for his approval.

“Go on, go on” he waved them off.

“Yay!” Isabella and Stephen jumped for joy and high-five each other.

“Uncle Steve knows a very cool cafe, wanna explore it with me?”

“Yes, yes”

Stephen swooped Isabella in his arms and rushed towards the door.

“Let’s hit Veronica’s teahouse!” Stephen exclaimed, feeling overexcited.

Jayden shook his head at his childish character, he quickly dipped his hand in his pocket and pulled out his phone, he scrolled briefly on it before dialing a number.

“Hello?”

“Quick, give Mark a call and get him to carry on with the lawsuit immediately”

“But Mr. your new wife still haven’t sign the marriage certificate yet”

“Leave that to me”

“But…”

“Enough with your buts, call Mark now and pass my message”

He glanced at Cassandra who’s still laying unmoved on the bed, with her head wrapped in heavy bandage… although, the doctor assured them the injury isn’t that serious.

“I can’t let my daughter roam the streets like some homeless, street kid while her dad has a very big and empty mansion!”

“Ok, sir, I’ll get it done” Jude said.

“Also, I want you to do something else for me….”

Cassandra’s pov

An excruciating pain struck the back of my head as I heard Jayden barking orders and I hissed quietly in pain.

My wh0le body hurts and I don’t understand why, I slowly opened my eyes but quickly closed them back because the brightness was too much.

A few seconds later, I opened them when they’ve adjusted to the brightness.

I frowned as white ceilings was glaring down at me and I started wondering where I am?

My eyes moved around, surveying where I am and I realized I’m actually in the hospital…wait, why am I in a hospital?

Then it all came back to me…the little girl…the truck and…

“A-ahem” I coughed lightly to clear my throat and tried to get up.

“Where’s the girl?” I asked in a low voice, because my throat is kinda dried right now.

“You’re awake” Jayden asked and rushed towards me, to help me sit up.

I sat and rested my back on the headboard and I grabbed his hand.

“There’s…” I coughed. “There’s a little girl, where’s she? Is she safe? Did I managed to save her?” I asked anxiously.

He smiled and nodded at me.

“She’s fine, you can calm down”

“Where’s she? Let me see her” I said.

He suddenly stopped smiling and stared at me seriously, I adjusted and moved back slightly.

“What?” I asked.

He cleared his throat.

“Er…about the little girl…” he trailed off.

“What about her?” I asked impatiently.

“Move in with me, will you?” he asked.

I gaped at him, really? Just like that? Out of the blue?

Veronica’s pov

VERONICA’S TEAHOUSE__11AM.

A sigh left my mouth and my shoulders slumped down as I stared at the money in,side the drawer, it’s so little.

My eyes met the wall clock ahead of me, it’s already 11am and I still haven’t make half as much as I made two days ago…it was as if I won a lottery.

Looking around the restaurant, I realized it’s a bit scanty and even the customer we have now didn’t order much, they ordered either tea, coffee or small cakes.

Maybe I should just close early and go rest at home, I can’t stress myself for nothing’s sake.

“Miss Mars someone’s here for you” Lily, one of my workers reported to me.

“Who’s that?” I asked.

“He didn’t say his name, but he’s been here before when we were fully parked and he had insisted we give him a seat in,side”

I rolled my eyeballs, it’s Stephen. But what is he doing here? Isn’t our deal over?

“He brought his daughter this time and insists on seeing you”

“His daughter?” I asked, with a frown.

“Yes” she replied.

So, he already has a daughter? How come I didn’t know about her? Hold on a sec, why am I bothering about his daughter?

“Should we let him in?” Lily asked.

“No, tell him I’m not in today” I told her and turned away from her and continued counting my money.

“Too late, Miss Mars” I tensed when I heard Stephen’s voice. “You should have said that two seconds before I came in” he said.

I raised my head and waved Lily off, she nodded and rushed out.

“What are you doing here?” I asked, my eyes moving to the little girl he’s holding.

This is his daughter? But she doesn’t quite look like him, I tilted my head trying if I would see any resemblance between them, but I didn’t find any.

Maybe she took after her mom.

“Isn’t this place a cafe? Can’t I just come here for a cup of coffee?” he asked.

He pulled out a stool and carried the little girl on it, he pulled out another stool and sat on it too.

“What would you like to have, princess?” he asked the little girl with a very sweet and polite smile, a kind of smile I haven’t seen on him before.

“Em.. chocolate ice cream” she answered.

“Ice cream? Isn’t it too early for ice cream, young lady?”

“Nope, look outside…” she pointed out the window. “… there’s sun outside, mummy said I can only eat ice cream when there’s sun”

I couldn’t help but smiled at her response, though there’s sun outside but it’s just the morning sun.

“Er…”

“I won’t have anything else but ice cream” she said stubbornly, folding her arms on her chest and kept a straight face.

Stephen sighed and rolled his eyeballs.

“Fine, fine, you can have ice cream” he said and pinched her nose.

Her face brightened up and her eyes lit up instantly, she gestured Stephen to bend over and she placed a k-ss on his right cheek.

“You’re welcome” he said and turned to me. “One chocolate ice cream and a cup of Expresso please” he told me.

He smiled and wink at me, but I glared maliciously at him in return.

“Heh!” He reached for my hand but I slap his hand away. “I’ll go get your orders” I said.

β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

After watching him and the little girl for sometime, I just couldn’t take it anymore and decided to talk.

“I know you’re not just here for a cup of coffee or ice cream, so tell me…why are you really here?” I asked.

“You’re wrong there, Isabella and I are only here for these” he said pointing at their coffee and ice cream respectively. “Right, Isabella?” he nudged her.

“Yeah” she replied with a cheeky smile.

She seem so young, maybe eight or nine, but she’s quite cheeky.

I narrowed my eyes at them, but they ignored me.

“Let’s make something clear, I’m not good with all those stepmom and stepchild thing, so to be on a safer side… don’t ask me to pretend to be her mom or stepmom cause I can’t do it”

Ok, why am I suddenly talking about stepmom and stepchild?

“Well, no one’s asking you to be a stepmom” he said.

“Oh, please, I know you”

He sniffed the air and squinted his eyes.

“Why do I perceive the stench of jealousy in the air?” he asked.

“Jealousy?” then it dawned on me what he’s actually saying. “Nobody’s jealous here” I said.

He laughed and pointed at my face.

“She’s getting red all over, red from too much jealousy”

“No, I’m red from anger!” I snapped at him.

He laughed shortly.

“Fret not, this is Jayden’s daughter”

“Oh”

I might not wanna admit it, but part of me is happy and relived after hearing she’s Jayden’s child.

“Where’s her father? Why are you with her instead?” I asked.

“Well.. we’re giving his father and stepmother time to bond” he winked at me but I gagged in return.

“Where are they?” I asked.

“Hospital” Isabella answered before Stephen could.

My ears perked up at once at the mention of hospital and fear gripped me.

“What are they doing at the hospital? Is Cassie okay?” I asked.

“Calm down bambi, she’s fine and would be leaving soon”

“What happened? Why did she end up in a hospital?” I asked again.

“She was saving me” Isabella answered again.

I turned to her with a glare that sent her shrinking back on her stool, she stared at me innocently and I realized my eyes were too harsh…I quickly looked away from her.

“Calm down, she isn’t that hurt, she only wounded her head and it’s perfectly bandaged…”

Is he trying to reassure? Or make me worry more? Because right now he’s doing the opposite of reassuring.

“Shut up!” I yelled at him, banging the counter. “You’re making it worse” I scolded him.

He shut his mouth and stared at me.

“Finish your coffee and leave” I said.

“Oh, I forgot to tell you, I’m not leaving anytime soon”

“Then you can stay all you want” I huffed and turned away from him.

I reached for my phone and dialed Cassandra’s number, I’m gonna scold the living day light outta her.

Cassandra’s pov

CITY GENERAL HOSPITAL.

I gaped at Jayden in great shock, really? He wants me to move in with him just like that? Out of the blue? How am I gonna explain this to my friends?

Especially Brad whom I had an agreement with, I can’t just tell him I’m moving in with a man I’m having a fake marriage license with?

“Please, baby, move in with me” he pleaded.

“Why?” was the first question that let my mouth.

“Because my daughter’s future on the line, the earliest I get her custody, the better it would be for me” he said.

I frowned.

“I don’t seem to understand you, what do you mean?”

He moved closer to me, he reached for my hand and squeezed it gently, then stared directly in my eyes.

“The little girl you saved, she’s…” he trailed off.

I stared at him anxiously, but he wouldn’t say anything.

“She’s what? You told me she’s fine, right?” I asked as my anxiety skyrocket.

Could it be I didn’t manage to save her? Is she seriously hurt? Or worse.. dead?!

No, it can’t be, I remembered pushing her away before the crash.

“Is she… ”

“She’s my daughter” he cut me off.

“Your daughter?!” I exclaimed loudly.

I winced when a slight pain struck my head, I guess I was too loud just now.

“Are you ok, baby?” Jayden asked worriedly.

“Y-yeah” I answered.

I held my head and started m-ssaging it gently, that’s when I realized my head was actually bandaged.

“Take it easy” he said.

“Give me a glass of water, please”

He nodded and quickly poured me a glass of water, I collected it and finished it in one gulp.

I burped quietly and inhaled deeply.

“Are you ok now?” he asked again.

I simply nodded.

“So…you said the little girl is your daughter?” I asked him.

“Yeah”

Hmm, it’s a pity I didn’t get to take a proper look at the girl’s face, but I guess there are gonna be lots of opportunities to see her later.

“Wait, what was she doing on the streets alone? And how did she end up on the road?”

Jayden sighed.

“That’s why I wanted you to move in with me, although you’ve agreed to be my fake wife to get my daughter’s custody, but the court won’t believe us”

“Why won’t they?” I asked.

“No husband and wife lives separately, you have to move in with me to make it believable” he explained.

I nodded in understanding, but another question crossed my mind.

“Where’s her mother? Why was she left alone?”

He shrugged and let go of my hand, he ran his fingers through his hair.

“She’s at a hotel banging her boyfriend” he growled and I could feel his anger.

My mind swift back to his daughter and I shook my head, little girls like her who grow up in broken homes often end up being nuisance in society.

“Please, just move in with me for now and let’s get her custody together”

There’s a long pause between us, I was busy weighing the advantages and disadvantage.

“Just do this for my daughter, let’s give her a new mom and…”

“No!” A sweet voice shouted from the door.

I looked away from Jayden towards the door and saw a little girl standing there, glaring daggers at me.

“Princess, you’re back” Jayden said.

Oh, so this is his daughter. I took a closer look and realized she’s exactly the same girl I saw on those photos at Jayden’s place.

“I don’t want a new mummy!” she said sternly.

To be continued.
