CITY GENERAL HOSPITAL

Jayden watched his daughter as she played on her phone, it’s been almost an hour since they sat on this bench without uttering any word to each other.

Isabella hasn’t once raised her head and acknowledged his presence, neither has he tried to make her.

They are currently outside the hospital building, near the playground.

“Ok…I guess nobody wants coffee or ice cream now” Stephen said when he came back from wherever he had gone.

He dropped the ice cream near Isabella and handed the coffee to Jayden, but quickly retrieved it back which earned him a glare from Jayden.

He chuckled lightly.

“I just remembered you’ve got a very low battery and drinking coffee isn’t advisable” he said.

“Hm” Jayden nodded in understanding.

He moved his gaze back to his daughter who was still so focused on her phone, he sighed and snatched the phone from her, but instead of fighting to get her phone back she simply started playing with her fingers.

“Are you gonna tell me the real reason for you not wanting a new mummy now?” Jayden asked.

She didn’t reply him, Jayden closed his eyes and inhale deeply.

“Isabella Grace Grassi, open your mouth and speak up or I’ll forget about your opinion and carry on with my original plan!” he threatened her.

Isabella tensed and raised her head quickly, she stared at her father in the eyes.

Jayden’s mouth parted when he saw his daughter’s red, teary eyes, he could see she’s trying to hold back her tears.

“Daddy” she called.

She scoot closer to him and hugged him, she rested her head on his chest while Jayden patted her back gently.

“I don’t want a new mummy” she said.

“Why?”

“She’s gonna be wicked and evil, she will pluck out my eyes and cook them…”

“That’s not the real reason” Jayden interrupted her. “You’re making us go round in circles, tell me your fear, tell me what you’re afraid of and why you really don’t want a new mummy”

Isabella pulled away from the hug, she lifted her dress and pointed at a sβ‚±0t on her th-gh.

Jayden’s gaze hΓ¦rdened as his eyes landed on a very big and deep scar on his daughter’s th-gh, his expression changed drastically and great anger consumed him.

He balled his fists by his side to keep his anger at bay for now, but that was only a little effort, his wh0le body was still shaking vehemently despite his attempt to comport himself.

“Holy sh.it! That’s fu.cking deep!” Stephen exclaimed loudly.

“Who did this?” Jayden gritted out, even though he already knew who did it.

“Mummy did” she answered. “She said if you get me a new mummy she’d put more of these on me everyday…” she trailed off.

Isabella lifted her head and looked at her father straight in his eyes, great fear and vulnerability were clearly written in her eyes.

“…daddy, it was very painful when mummy did it, I don’t want it on me anymore” she cried, the tears she was trying to hold back finally flowed down her cheeks.

Jayden reached forward and car-ssed the scar pitifully, he could only imagine the pain his daughter must have gone through.

“Daddy, can we not get a new mummy?” she asked.

“Princess….”

“I-I hate mummies, daddy” she cried more.

Stephen fixed his gaze on the little girl’s th-gh, he was just staring at it with his mouth speechlessly open.

“I would hate mummies too if I were her, I mean, her mom is just so wicked…how can she do this to her own kid?” Stephen said.

“Come on, princess” Jayden called her.

He opened his arms and she rushed in, he carried her and sat her on his laps, then rested her head on his chest.

“Don’t listen to your mummy, she’s the evil and wicked mummy” he consoled her.

“Yes, your mummy is lying and wants to install fear in you, no mummy would inflect such pain on their daughter” Stephen said.

There was a brief silence, until Jayden broke it.

“Cassandra isn’t a bad person and she isn’t gonna be an evil mummy too, wasn’t she the one who saved you?”

“Yeah”

“She saved you when she didn’t even know you, which means she’s gonna be a very good and caring mummy for you, right?”

Isabella didn’t say anything, she simply hugged her father tighter. Jayden glanced at his friend for assistance, he doesn’t know how to convince his daughter anymore.

Stephen cleared his throat and said.

“Princess, how about we do this, we can let Cassandra live in your house and spend more time with you…”

“But…”

“… let’s give her one month probation, we can send her away if she treats you badly, or if you still don’t like her.. how is that?” Stephen asked.

Jayden smiled approvingly at Stephen, giving him a thumbs up. Then they turned to Isabella and stared at her waiting her response, after a while she nodded.

“That’s good” Stephen breath out.

“Should we head back in,side and stay by your new mummy’s side?” Jayden asked.

Isabella shook her head in disagreement.

“Take me home” she said.

“Take you home?”

She nodded.

“Take me to your home, daddy”

Jayden wanted to argue but his wristwatch started beeping, he stared at it with a frown and saw it’s reading 2%…he sighed.

“I think you should really head home now before it’s too late” Stephen advised.

“Then what about my baby?” he asked referring to Cassandra.

“She’s gonna be fine, I’ll explain things to her” Stephen said.

Seeing as there is no need of arguing anymore, Jayden nodded.

“Ok”

GLASS-FA HOTEL__NEW-YORK CITY.

“Let’s keep the party goooooing!” Matilda shouted over the loud music playing in her room.

She poured herself a glass of wine and finished it all in one gulped, she slammed the glass on the table and started jumping.

“I’m so happy, Peter, come join me!” she scre-med.

Peter simply smiled at her and waved his hand dismissively, she rolled her eyeballs and continued dancing to the music.

“My time is fast approaching!” she continued scre-ming, jumping and giggling, pouring herself more drinks.

FEW MINUTES LATER.

Matilda slumped down on the sofa and placed a lingering k-ss on Peter’s l-ips, he winced when he tasted alcohol.

“You really need to stop drinking so much, you’re a woman”

“Heh, then it’s God’s mistake for making me a woman” she replied.

She reached for a packet of cigarettes, she drew out a stick and light it up, inhaled a large smoke and exhaled it out slowly.

“You said you came back to stop the wedding, but you’re not doing anything, all you’ve been doing is partying.. how is that gonna stop the wedding?” Peter asked.

Matilda smirked.

“Relax, I’m already destroying the wedding plans as we’re partying here” she said.

Peter frowned.

“How?”

She poured herself another glass of wine, she took a sip and waved the remainder in front of her eyes.

“I’ve made it clear to that little punk the consequences of having a stepmother, she won’t let her father remarry, if I’m correct she’s already giving her father difficult time”

Peter nodded and smiled, but quickly stopped smiling.

“How are we sure she can stop her father from marrying again?” he asked.

“Well, her father loves her a lot and he’d do whatever it takes to make her happy…if not remarrying is what makes the little punk happy, then he’s not gonna remarry” she explained, glaring at the empty space in front of her.

“You’re wickedly smart”

“Yeah, do I deserve a reward for my smartness?” Matilda asked.

“Of course” Peter winked at her. “Strip!” he ordered.

“Hm, I think I know what’s coming next” she replied, bitting her lower lip sed-ctively.

Cassandra’s pov

THE NEXT MORNING

It felt as if my head was wobbling as I woke up to the sound of Veronica’s familiar voice giggling happily, I slowly sat up and rested my back against the wooden headboard.

I closed my eyes briefly as I tried to soothe the pain I was feeling and thankfully it’s working.

Vero sat on the couch with her back facing me, she was just staring at her phone and laughing.

“Yo, you’re awake” she said when she turned and finally noticed me.

I nodded slowly.

“What are you being so happy about?” I asked her.

“Oh my God, Cinderella, you wouldn’t believe what just happened this morning” she said and gleefully glided towards me.

She sat on the edge of the bed next to me, typed a few buttons and showed it to me.

My mouth fell open in bewilderment and I pointed at the screen speechlessly, wondering if what I’m seeing is actually true.

“Vero, how did you managed to make this huge amount of money so early in the morning?” I asked.

She shrugged.

“I was just about to go get you some hot water when Lily called me and said someone wants to book my teahouse, he’s celebrating his anniversary there” she explained.

“Wow, congratulations babygirl” I congratulated her.

Her business is doing great, which I’m happy about but kinda feeling kinda envious of her, I would have been making money too if I had started a restaurant.

But I shouldn’t be so jealous because I’m kinda a shareholder, I invested some cash in there some time ago.

“Yeah, I’m so happy” she said. “I would have treated us to dinner if you weren’t hurt” she nodded at my head injury and sighed.

“It’s an evidence of doing good deeds” I told her.

“Pfft” she scoffed and rolled her eyeballs. “I’ll spell my name backwards if I heard you’re doing good deeds, you evil Cinderella” she joked.

We laughed briefly at her lame joke, Vero is not a cartoon network fan but she wouldn’t stop watching them because of me, which leads to her getting the characters wrong.

“Evil Cinderella? There’s evil Cinderella, we only have Sofia the second” I corrected her.

“Wether Sofia the second or evil Cinderella, they’re all the same” she said.

I shook my head but winced when I felt a sharp pain in my wound.

“Right…your nurse will come in soon to redress your wound and…”

A knock on the door interrupted Vero, she paused and headed towards the door to check who’s there.

After a few seconds, she came back in with a nurse trailing behind her.

“Cinderella, your nurse is here” Vero gave way revealing the nurse proper. “I’ll go get you breakfast, while she attend to your wound”

“Hm” I nodded.

Vero reached for my flask and headed out, leaving me with the nurse.

The nurse dropped her tray on the table, she picked a scissors and cotton, then faced me with a smile.

“Good morning, Miss Maldonado”

“He-hello, good m-morning” I replied, cautiously eyeing the scissors in her hand.

She noticed my expression and followed my gaze, she laughed and shook her.

“Miss Maldonado, don’t you worry, I’ll be very gentle” she said reassuringly.

I released a nervous laugh and nodded reluctantly for her to carry on, I quickly shut my eyes when she’s approaching me.

“Please be gentle” I told her.

“Of course” she replied.

β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

FEW MINUTES LATER

The nurse is done redressing my wound and she’s gone too, right now I’m just relaxing in my bed and patiently waiting for Vero to bring in my breakfast.

After a few minutes of waiting, I heard a knock on the door.

Ugh, that must be Vero trying to make a fool outta herself right now, I grumbled mentally.

I sent a harsh glare at the door and got myself ready to scold her when she comes in.

But unfortunately, it wasn’t Vero.

I tensed when the door open and Jayden’s uncle came in, I did a quick scan on myself to make sure my body’s well covered.

“Good morning, uncle” I greeted him quickly.

“Hm” he hummed in reply.

A confused frown appeared on my face as I tried to think of the reason he’s here.

It’s very clear from our dinner last time, that he doesn’t like me, so he’s possibly not here to see me for good.

Well, let’s wait and find out.

“Ahem” I cleared my throat, not knowing how to start a conversation with him.

By the way, I could tell from his straight face that he’s not here for a friendly conversation.

“Er…uncle, let me pour you some water” I offered.

But he shook his head and raised his hand to stop me, he turned the couch and sat down.

His eyes started trailing down my body, as if he’s trying to figure something out.

He scoffed and looked away in disgust.

“What brought you here, uncle?” I asked.

“I’m not gonna beat around the corner, I’ll cut to the chase” he said and paused.

Well, I’ll try to respect you, don’t make me loose respect for you. I warned him inwardly, though he didn’t hear it.

“I don’t know where or how you and Jayden met, but the truth is you can’t be together” he said.

“We can’t be together?” I asked.

“No” he answered.

“Why?” I asked again.

“Because I said so” he said authoritatively.

Hm, everyone close to Jayden doesn’t want me to be with him, why? Don’t they want him to be happy?

“But we are in love with each other, why can’t we be together?” I argued.

He narrowed his eyes at my words.

“This isn’t a matter of love or hate, you can’t be together because it’s a huge sin against nature”

Now I’m confused, I can’t seem to comprehend what he’s trying to say, why would being with Jayden be a sin against nature?

“I know you’re broke recently and you’re trying to attach yourself with Jayden because of his wealth…”

Wait, what?! Your nephew begged me to do this with him you motherfu.cking ass.h0le! I wanted to scre-m.

“…but don’t worry, if money is the problem…” he trailed off and reached for his pocket.

The frown lines on my forehead deepened as I stared at him with my mouth slightly open, don’t tell me he’s trying to do what I think he’s about to do.

“…I will write you and cheque, but before I hand it over you must first promise to leave Jayden, go far away from him and never appear in his life again….”

Oh no, he’s doing it, that’s a very bad move Mr uncle.

“… here’s $20 million” he said, waving the cheque in front of my eyes.

He is so old fashioned, who uses money to separate lovers these days?

He is so outdated, maybe I should help update him.

“I want you to make a vow, that starting today you’ll have nothing to do with Jayden and you’ll vanish from his life forever” he said.

$20 million, hmmm… It’s true that I’m broke and having such a huge amount waving in front of my eyes is quite tempting.

No one in their right senses would reject it and honestly, I’m not an exception, that money will go a very long way in my life.

“So, what do you say?” he asked, sounding impatient.

“I’ll take the money” I answered.

“You’ll take the money?” he asked.

“Yes, I’m tired of being broke” I answered.

He smirked at my response.

“I knew it! What about Jayden?” he asked again.

Looking straight in his eyes, in his eyes I saw a lot of unreadable emotions and I smirked.

“Don’t worry, I’ll leave him and never appear in his life again” I answered with my smirk wΒ‘dening.

“Good!”

He dropped the cheque on the small table and got up, he adjusted his suit and tie.

“Jayden must not find out I’m the one who chased you away” he said warningly.

Ooh, he’s scared?

“Don’t worry, sir, Jayden wouldn’t know a thing” I nodded and quickly snatched the cheque from the table.

I sniffed it and closed my eyes as fresh paper scent filled my nostrils, I mo-ned softly at the sweet scent.

“I knew she’s a gold digging bi.tch” he murmured but I heard him clearly.

He glared at me for a moment, though my eyes were still closed but I could feel his harsh glare, before he headed out.

My eyes snapped open as the door was closed in a loud bang, I angrily threw the cheque back on the table as I recalled him calling me a gold digging bi.tch.

Let’s show this man how outdated he is, we’re the updated version in this game.

Hehehe.

β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

“I saw Mr uncle leaving your ward, what did he come here for?” Vero asked immediately she entered my ward.

“He came by to drop this” I said, gesturing at the cheque laying on the table.

She picked it up and stared at it with her jaw dropped.

“$20 million?!” she exclaimed loudly.

“Yeah”

She stared at the cheque for a moment, then shook her head and squinted her eyes.

“I know this is not free, so tell me, why did he suddenly decided to gift you $20 million?”

“To make me leave his nephew” I replied.

“What?!” she exclaimed.

She threw the cheque back on the table as though it just burned her hand, she raised her head and glared at me.

“And you accepted the money?”

“Of course,I wouldn’t say no to that block” I replied.

She reached forward and felt my temperature, then frown.

“Are you crazy? Why would you do that? Does that mean your love for Jayden isn’t strong enough?”

I rolled my eyeballs.

“Calm down, I collected the money to teach Jayden’s uncle a lesson”

“A lesson?”

“Yeah, he’s old enough to be my father, I can’t possibly insult him” I said.

“Heh”

“Since he’s decided to use this outdated way to separate us, I’ve decided to teach him a lesson in the updated way”

“Updated way?” I nodded. “What’s the updated way?” Vero asked.

“Accept the money, but stay glue to Jayden!” I answered with a smirk.

Vero thought about it for a brief moment and nodded in agreement, she pushed my head gently.

“You’re a fool” she said.

“I’m happy to be a fool” I replied.

To be continued.
