Cassandra’s pov

Vero and I are done eating breakfast, she’s currently putting away the plates and leftovers, by leftovers I mean bones.

“Jayden called me earlier, he said he and his daughter would be coming over to see you” she said.

“He called you?” she hummed in reply. “Why didn’t he call me instead?” I asked, sounding a tad jealous.

Wait, am I jealous of my bestie now?

“He called you first but your number wasn’t reachable”

“Oh”

“Anyways, I’ll head to my teahouse to make sure everything is in order…” she paused and checked her phone. “…for my client’s anniversary” she winked at me.

“Oh, please” I waved her off.

She simply laughed at me, but I ignored her. Just then my phone chimed, I reached for it and saw it’s a message from Jayden.

I smiled at once and quickly open it.

*Good morning, angel, how are you feeling now? I missed you last night, did you miss me?*

Hmph! Missed me last night? He made it sound as if we’ve been sleeping together everyday, but a smile overwhelmed my face at the thought of us sleeping together.

“Ok…I know that smile” Vero said.

“What smile?” I asked.

“The one that says, my boyfriend just texted me and I can’t control the butterflies flapping joyously in my stomach”

I smiled more, she’s just said it all, I’ve got goosebumps all over.

“Hm” she sighed. “I wish I have someone who’d make butterfly flap in my stomach too” she said teasingly.

I pouted and stared at her pitifully, but that pitiful look quickly left my face when something crossed my mind.

“You have” I said.

“I have what?” she asked.

“Someone who’d give you goosebumps”

She tilted her head with a slight frown.

“Stephen!” I exclaimed.

“Huh?”

“Stephen, he’s got the hots for you” I said.

Vero rolled her eyeballs and shook her head in disagreement.

“He doesn’t have any hots for me, he’s a psychopath and he needs to visit a psychiatrist before it’s too late”

My mouth fell open at her words, can’t she see Stephen wanna be with her?

“Aren’t you the love expert? Isn’t obvious he wanna be with you?”

“Obvious?”

“Yeah” she raised an eyebrow at me to elaborate. “From what I’ve observed, Stephen is a very stubborn guy and he wouldn’t do anything against his will”

“So?”

“He turns to a baby whenever you’re around, he loses his sense of reasoning does whatever you want him to…if that isn’t love then I don’t know what it is” I said, using her words at my last comment.

“It’s true, now I believe it”

“That Stephen has a soft sβ‚±0t for you?” I asked.

She shook her head.

“No” she sighed. “One can notice other couple’s spark but can’t notice theirs”

“I’m serious, you….”

“Lalalala, I can’t hear you because I’m working here” she said and carried on with her stuff.

I decided to let go of this issue for now, I reached for a random book on the bedside table and flipped to a random page, then started reading.

“What is this?” Vero interrupted me.

I lifted my head and saw her staring weirdly at a file on the table, she picked it up.

“Oh, it must be the marriage certificate” I replied, turning back to my book.

“Really?”

“Hm” I hummed.

I heard her ripping the file open, then she gasped loudly and I lifted my head again.

“What?” I asked.

“Your husband already signed it, it’s only your signature that’s left to make it legal” she said.

I threw my head back and folded my arms on my chest, leaving the book on my lap.

“I’m not signing it”

“Why?”

“Nothing, I just wanna wait until Isabella accepts me before I sign it” I replied.

Vero stared at me, scoffed and threw the certificate at me, which I caught with ease.

“Well, it’s too late for that now”

“Why? What do you mean?” I asked.

She reached for my bag, she dipped her hand in,side and pulled it out seconds after, she waved a paper in front of my eyes.

“You’ve already accepted his uncle’s money and you said you wanna teach him a lesson in an updated way, babygirl, this is your opportunity” she said.

My eyes focused on the cheque and I gro-ned mentally, she’s right, signing the marriage certificate would be a slap on uncle Danny’s face.

“Hand me that pen, I’m signing it right now”

Vero snatched the pen laying on the table and threw it at me, then nodded in agreement.

“That’s the spirit” she cheered for me. “Oooh, someone’s getting married for real” she teased me as I was signing it.

I rolled my eyeballs at her words.

“It’s not a real marriage remember” I reminded her.

“Hm” she hummed.

I dropped the pen after signing and stared at the certificate with a satisfied smile.

“I know it’s not a real marriage, but the certificate is real and that makes you his legal wife”

“No, no, Jayden said the papers are fake, it’s just to deceive the court”

She snatched the papers from me and studied them, then she frowned.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Honey, you can’t deceive the court because they know what’s fake and what’s real”

“What are you trying to say?”

“These papers are real and you’re both lawfully married now, you’re real husband and wife”

“Huh?!” I exclaimed.

It’s not that I don’t wanna be Jayden’s wife or I’m not happy to be his wife, I’m thrilled to be his wife legally.

But he shouldn’t have lied about the authentication of certificate, he should have told me his original plan.

“Mrs Grassi” Vero called me.

I snatched the papers from her, I glared at them as I felt tempted to tear them into pieces.. but that would make me lose my status as his wife, which is what I do wanna lose.

“I wanna ask you a question” Vero said.

“What?”

“Now that you’re legally married to Jayden, what’s gonna happen to you and Brad’s act?” she asked.

“Right, Brad… ” I trailed off.

Vero sighed. “You’re now Jayden’s wife, you’re a married woman, how are you gonna pull off being Brad’s fiancee?” she asked.

The door burst open before I could say anything, a very angry Jayden barged in.

His eyes searched the ward until they landed on me, I couldn’t withstand his harsh glare and I flinched back from his soul s-cking gaze.

“You’re Brad’s fiancee?!” he growled, making my bed vibrate or maybe that’s just my imagination.

“Jay, I.. I…” what can I say at a time like this?

As if nature is against me today, my phone started ringing and it’s Brandon. Not wanting to increase Jayden’s anger, I quickly switched off my cellphone.

“You’re Brad’s fiancee!” he growled again.

Vero gently reached for her bag and wanted to sneak out, but one look from Jayden made her sat back on the couch.

“We’re dead” Vero murmured so only us could hear, I simply released a nervous laugh.

I guess I should have told him about this earlier, is it too late to confess now?

Wait, we just got married, this can’t be seen as cheating – right?

“Isn’t Cassie coming?” Mom asked, turning away from dad.

“She’s coming” I assured her.

I checked my phone again, praying it would just ring and I’ll see Cassie’s name flashing on the screen.

“I thought you two live together, why didn’t you come here together?” Mom asked again, narrowing her eyes suspiciously at me.

My eyes looked away from mom to dad, but I quickly looked away from him because he’s got the same suspicious look as mom.

I coughed and bite my lower lip nervously, holding tightly onto my phone as if it’s giving me some comfort.

Why isn’t Cassie here yet? Doesn’t she know today’s a big day for me and I need her here?

“I haven’t seen her since she agreed to marry you, she ought to be around me this period because there are lot of things we have tackle now” she paused.

Her eyes lit up as she stared dreamily at the empty space ahead of her, her l-ips quirked up in a smile and I noticed she’s blushing like those teen highschool girls who saw their crush.

She must be dreaming about holding the best wedding party for her daughter-in-law, the one that would be the talk of the town.

But sadly, I’m gonna crush that dream and break her heart, she’s never gonna get a daughter-in-law.

“She should be coming around me more, so that we can make plans for your wedding” she said.

I sighed silently.

“Maybe you should give her a call” dad suggested.

“Yeah, I’ll do that right away” I said and rushed out of dad’s ward to give Cassie a call.

Come on, sweetheart, pick up – I grumbled as I dialed Cassie’s number continuously.

*The number you dialed is out of coverage and cannot be reached…*

I cut off the automated voice and glared at my phone as I felt the urge of smashing it surging through my veins.

Maybe I should try calling Vero. I quickly dialed Vero’s number as the thought struck me, luckily, it went through.

“Hello” came her voice, though it sounded as if she’s whispering.

“Vero, where are you? Is Cassie nearby?” I asked.

“We’re in a hot mess here” she replied.

“Hot mess?”

“Yeah, I can’t talk much right now, I’ll call you back later” she said and before I could say something, she hanged up.

“f–k!” I growled and kicked a wall near me, but quickly regretted it as pains shoots through my leg.

I leaned against the wall and thought of what to do next, mom isn’t gonna go easy on me for sure.

CITY GENERAL HOSPITAL.

“….and I had no choice but to agree to help him” I explained.

It’s total silence after my long explanation, I just finished explaining how it all started and how I ended up being Brandon’s fiancee to Jayden.

We all (Vero, Isabella and I) stared at Jayden, waiting for him to utter a word but he didn’t, he was simply clenching and unclenching his fists.

His eyeballs moved around frantically, until they landed on the marriage certificate laying on the table. He picked it up and stared at it.

“Have you signed these?” He asked.

“Yes, I just finished signing them” I answered.

He dropped it back on the table and sighed.

“Baby, we’re husband and wife now…” he trailed off and paused.

I adjusted Isabella on my laps, I had insisted on carrying her earlier, it seems like she’s making me feel less nervous.

..and I believe Matilda’s lawyer would be watching us closely, looking for a looph0le and any small mistake from us will put all our hΓ¦rd work in jeopardy… ”

From my peripheral vision I saw Vero nodding in agreement with Jayden’s words, I scoffed mentally and glared at her.. what an hypocrite.

“… I hope you understand what I mean?” Jayden asked, pulling out of my useless thoughts.

“Huh? What do you mean?” I asked him back cluelessly.

He and Vero eyed me briefly, they must be asking me one same question telepathically which I believe is – what the heck where you thinking?

“I said have a talk with Brandon and tell him your act with him is over” he said.

“Over?”

“Yes, over!” he said again, authoritatively this time.

I shifted my gaze towards Vero for a little help, but she quickly looked away from me and started humming a random song.

I turned back to Jayden and gulped.

“Jayden, can we extend it a little?” I asked slowly.

“Extend it” I nodded. “Extend what?” he asked me back.

I gulped again.

“Extend when I talk to Brandon about it and….”

“No” he cut me off coldly.

“… but I can’t just sprang it up on him like that, he needs this act until he’s ready to come out to his parents” I said.

He didn’t say anything, but stared at me with a blank expression, his arms folded perfectly on his chest which makes him look colder and unapproachable.

“Ok… I… I… I…” why does it seem like words are vacating my money right now?

“Or I can help him come out to his parents” Jayden said.

I quickly shook my head in disagreement.

“I’ll put an end to this myself” I told him.

He smirked, he got up, leaned forward and placed a k-ss on my forehead.

“I’ll go sign the discharge papers” he said and headed out.

Vero and I released a breath we didn’t know we’re holding, even Isabella who was sitting on my laps was tensed, she breathe out in relief too.

“I almost peed my p-nts” Vero said.

I rolled my eyeballs.

“Tell me about it”

We both tilted our heads and looked towards the door, as if we’re making sure he’s gone.

“Goodness, I should head to my teahouse now!” Vero said, she snatched her bag from the table and dashed out before I could stop her.

Isabella and I just stared at the direction she dashed off to and shook our heads, if I were her and I have the opportunity, I’d run for my life too.

“Dad is strict some times, don’t let him scare you away” Isabella said.

I laughed nervously.

“I’ll keep that in mind”

To be continued.
