GRASSI’ VILLA

“…you know that’s not possible” Mrs Grassi disagreed with whatever Matilda just said to her.

Her response had seem to offend Matilda, this wasn’t the reply she was expecting from Mrs Grassi.

“I have said what I came here to say and also told you what to do” she paused, stared directly in Mrs Grassi’ eyes. “…it’s either you do it or wait until Jayden hears about the sin your husband’s committed”

Hearing Matilda threaten her was very insulting and humiliating to her, tears welled up her eyes but she quickly blinked them away.

She glared at Matilda.

“You’re a demon!” she growled angrily.

A dry, wicked laugh escaped Matilda’s throat, she sprang up and snatched her purse off the table -walked closer to Mrs Grassi.

“Yes, I’m a demon and you won’t like what this demon would do to your family if you don’t do what I want” she said.

With a sadistic smirk playing on her l-ips, she flipped her hair back and headed towards the door.

“I’ll be waiting for you, but don’t make me wait for too long because there’s a limit to my patience!” she laughed.

Mrs Grassi found herself falling on a sofa just as the door was shut in a very loud bang, all the tears she’s being trying to hold back came running down her cheeks.

She could still hear Matilda’s evil laughter echoing in the living room, even though she’s already gone for some minutes now.

Her eyes searched the living room until they landed on a wedding photo, a photo of a very beautiful young bride who was smiling so brightly, the glow on her face could tell everyone and anyone just how happy she was.

Beside her was her groom, who’s arms were protectively wrapped around her wa-ist, although he wasn’t all smiley as his bride was but there was also a glow on his face that could tell everyone he’s very contented with the woman in his arms.

Staring at the photo acted as trigger and Mrs Grassi couldn’t hold it in anymore, she burst into tears, clinging onto her chest as she cried.

“Danny, what have you done? How can I say no to her when she’s holding our deepest secret? What should I do?” she cried.

She got up and approached the photo, she reached for it and pulled it off the wall then ran her fingers over it, as her tears were dripping on it.

“I feel like I don’t know you anymore, who are you?” she asked.

“Honey?” her husband’s voice called behind her.

She slowly turned around, her husband’s jaw dropped when he saw teary eyes and he tried to take a step towards her but she held out her hand to stop him.

“What’s going on?” he asked her.

“Danny, you’ve landed us in a deep shît..” she lets out a dry laugh. “.. are you happy now?” she asked him.

Her husband frown as he was confused by her words, he doesn’t know what happened and why she was crying.

“What are you talking about? Has something happened?”

She shook her head, she walked closer to him and shoved the photo in his hands, her teary eyes stared into his.

“Our lives are over!” was all she said and headed towards their room, leaving her confused husband behind.

VERONICA’S TEAHOUSE

Veronica couldn’t believe Stephen’s just confessed his feelings to her and moreso, asked her to be his girlfriend.

A part of her was urging her to say yes because she desperately needed someone to love her, and now that someone’s willing to love her, she wanted to take the chance.

But memories of her parents’ failed marriage struck her, she recalled her jobless father always coming home at odd hours, drunk and end up using her mother as his punching bag.

There were times he’d rape her mother and forced her to watch him, there were times he’d stab her mother in attempt to kill her, saying she’s the barrier in life.

Veronica shut her eyes as these unpleasant memories flooded her mind, she couldn’t control the tears that had gathered in her eyes and let them flow freely.

On the other hand, Stephen was praying she’d say yes to his proposal, but worry and concern jerked through his body when she saw her in tears.

He wondered if he had offended her with his words, he tried to recall his words but couldn’t point out where he said something wrong.

“A-are you ok?” he asked her, but she didn’t reply him.

He quickly got up and rushed over to her, he crouched down, knelling on one leg and reached forward to wipe her tears.

“I.. I.. I’m sorry if my words offended you, please don’t cry” he said.

“Leave” Veronica said amidst tears.

“Huh?”

“Leave” she repeated.

“But we…”

“I SAID LEAVE!” she yelled as snapped her eyes open and she banged on the table.

Her staffs who were peeking at them quickly withdrew themselves and dashed to the kitchen side to hide -they began asking themselves why was their boss suddenly crying.

Meanwhile, Stephen didn’t leave, he was still knelling next to Veronica and staring at her innocently.

“Veronica, what’s wrong? Why are you suddenly angry at me?” he asked.

Veronica sprang up and pushed him very hærd, making him fall and land on his butts.

He gro-ned loudly and rubbed his butts with his face contorted in pain, but Veronica didn’t felt pity for him, she was too angry and sad to feel anything.

“I SAID LEAVE, I DON’T WANNA SEE YOU”

“B-but I didn’t do anything”

“I HATE HIM AND I HATE YOU! I HATE BOTH OF YOU!” she scre-med, she pushed the table out of her way and headed towards the exit.

Stephen quickly got up to chase after her, but she halted abruptly and snapped her head to face him.

He flinched back from her harsh glare and released a frightened chuckle.

“DON’T YOU DARE FOLLOW ME!” she growled and stormed off.

Stephen simply stood there, staring at the direction she dashed off to and wondering what’s going on.

Veronica’s pov

Run.

That’s all I have on my mind right now, I have been running right from the moment I left my teahouse and I wanna keep running without stop.

I do this every time I feel stressed or encounter something that trigger the sad and bad memories from my past.

Men -he’s made me hate men, how can I find happiness now?

I know I shouldn’t have blown up on Stephen like I did, but he reminded me of something I am trying very hærd to forget, he uprooted all the pain I have decided to bury deep in my heart.

It’s best if I stay away from him, or I’m gonna hurt him.

To be continued.
